plzzz help me its very urgent i need help in making of report on health insurance?

hi everyone plzzz help me soon serious answers only i need the material on the following topic to make the report HEALTH INSURANCE THE NEED OF DAY so plz help me out!!! plzzzzzzzzzzzzz i have to sbmt on 14th of dec plzzzz help me
--------------------
health insurance is needed because if you get sick for a week in hospital an american could lose their house / retirement . insurance companies know this and they exploit us by sharing our personal claims information in order to determine our risks as candidates. the charge us more and the premiums can be obscene. the government keeps our medicines priced very expensive and won't allow us to go to other countries and bring back the same medicine that is less expensive. the drug companies support the government that makes this law by contributing lots of money. many americans are going without food in order to buy the medicines that they need. many americans that have insurance , can't get the doctors or treatment that they need. they can die , while waiting to get preapproval for a life saving surgical procedure. it can take a month to get approval to begin chemotherapy. cancer can advance a lot in a month , and this could be the difference between life and death. americans recognize the need for health care insurance but fear that the states will make it mandatory as auto insurance was. the unhealthy will have to purchase higher insurance , like a SR-22 is for car insurance and still not have a good coverage. there is a article about older americans moving to mexico because they can't afford retirement in america and the health insurance/medicare. it s in msnbc today. this might be a good reference for your insurance. good luck doing the research / writing your report. i hope this gives you some ideas.

How do insurance co use descriptive statistics & probability dist. to project health & auto insuranc premiums?

How do insurance companies use descriptive statistics and probability distributions to project health and auto insurance premiums? In regards to age, why is there an inverse relationship between the two premiums?
--------------------
Ultimately the insurance company charges more when it is at risk of having to pay out. I didn't realize that insurance was inverse for health and auto, but I can see why it would be. First, to understand this concept you have to suspend the want to point out the exceptions. This being statements like, "I knew a guy that had a heart attack at 20." Statistically, things such as heart attacks in your 20s don't happen often. That being said, it can be easily shown that as your age increases your risk of sickness. Now also bear in mind that the insurance company is concerned with "how much" moreso than "how often." They are a company so they watch the bottom line. In youth you may be sick, but most likely it will not cost much. A prescription vs. surgery etc. Now coming to auto insurance: It is easily shown that the younger the driver the worse the accident can be. This shows why young males are most often the worst to ensure. Statistically, the young male is prone to accidents and usually can be involved in some of the most expensive accidents. Older drivers tend to go slower and when there is an accident it is usually not as severe. In conclusion being younger puts you in better health (usually) and being older makes you a better risk when driving.

Why aren't the health insurance companies competing?

I don't understand how these companies could be price gouging customers unless none of them are competing with each other. Doesn't competition naturally bring down prices in the capitalistic system? How is it that the prices are sky-rocketing then?
--------------------
YES, Competition does bring 'down' prices. Maybe that is what the Bill will introduce? HOWEVER, I Would NOT Vote for a Bill I haven't seen or HEARD "ALL" that is in it! For example; Even tho "YOU" are a hardworking American Taxpayer and YOUR taxes will INDIRECTLY help pay for this bill, is/does the Bill ALLOW for 'free' treatment of "ILLEGAL ALIENS"?...is this WHY they are trying SO HARD to pass it under our NOSES, BEFORE the American public finds OUT!!

Maternity benefits.. which health insurance to choose?

I have moved to the US on a dependent visa. All health insurance companies I contacted so far have a waiting period of 12 months for availing maternity benefits. I want to start planning a family sometime this year.. Is there any health insurance which does not have a waiting period? Pls help!!!
--------------------
No. Most companies I know of have a waiting period for maternity benefits. They don't want you to purchase the insurance, have a baby (big claim) and then drop the insurance. I think you can see their point. If you are not pregnant yet, purchase the insurance and then wait a few months before trying to start the family and you should be ok.

Explain how a health insurance company may benifit financially if it were to encourage breast cancer screening?

Explain how a health insurance company may benifit financially if it were to encourage breast cancer screening
--------------------
Because if you were screened early and cancer was detected, you would have a much greater chance of survival and not need as much medical treatment than it it were an advanced case. You may be able to get by with a lumpectomy rather than a mastectomy, which is much less invasive and requires less money. Hence your insurance would save money.

Has anyone ever been denied of health insurance? and why?

I was denied of health insurance and I'm not sure why. I havent gotten my results back yet, because of the HIPPA law. I was just wondering if any of you were ever denied of health insurance and why. I am just confused and scared as to why I would be denied.
--------------------
There are many reasons to be denied health insurance. You could be out of the height and weight guidelines. Each company has it's own guideline and you could be denied with one company and accepted with another. You could have an undiagnosed condition. No insurance company will accept you in this case. You could have impending surgery scheduled. No company will accept you in this case. You could have a pre-existing condition. Each company has it's own guidelines. One company could deny, one could accept you with a rate-up or an exclusion (rider), another could accept you with no additional riders. You will receive a reason for the denial but you probably won't receive any test results. After you do, you should visit a local independent agent that works with all the major companies in your area. The agent knows, or can find out, which company would accept you. There is no extra charge using an agent.

I was born with low blood iron and my parents lacked health insurance at the time. So why do c0nservatards...?

So why do the c0nservatards think I should never be given coverage for my "pre-existing condition" from the private insurance companies?
--------------------
Sounds like your parents make bad decisions. First, they could have decided to terminate the pregnancy but since they didn't, they dang well should have had insurance! You have to ask yourself what they were spending their money on when they should have been protecting you? Liberals don't want to be self-reliant though. They want the government to step in and do everything for them. Right?

How expensive is having individual health care insurance?

How expensive can it be? Do you have to pay it monthly or annually? How much do you have to pay? Like 30 dollars a month?
--------------------
The cost depends upon your age, height and weight, gender, if you smoke, and the deductible and benefits of the policy. I've seen policies for people in their 20's run $50 or $60 per month and people in their 60's run over $1000 per month. Most policies are paid monthly. You should visit a local independent agent. This person knows the market in your area and can find the best policy for your situation and they don't charge you anything for the service.

how much would health insurance be?

i need to pay for my fiance's mother's health insurance she is becoming very ill. she has kidney stones and other problems but cannot see doctors or get the necessary treatment. her job offers no coverage. she is 43. how much would this be about monthly with average co-pay rates?
--------------------
With her history, I doubt you could get insurance. Probably thousands of dollars. She should see if there is a state program that will cover her. If you get anything, it would be thousands of dollars a month. (Assuming you are in the US) It's a sad thing in this country when people, especially hard working ones, can't get medical care. She could look into joining any kind of group to see if she can get group coverage that way. Things like social clubs such as American Association of University Women, Mensa or other social groups. Professional groups like lawyers and doctors, accountants, paralegals, etc. Any kind of national club will often have health insurance as a benefit. AARP, while claiming to be for over 50 folks will take anyone as a member.

If they are all forced to purchase a gun, then they can't complain that they weren't prepared and cry "It's not FAIR!" My prediction is that in the next two months, insurance premiums are going to be increased at least 10% across the board. So much for driving down the cost of health care!

What's the average cost of a Health insurance plan in New york?

I am moving from Europe to work in New York, can someone explain to me how the system works, and if it is age depending cost.
--------------------
Yes, it depends on age, and overall health. NY is a guaranteed issue state - so they MUST take you - so on average, it will cost you twice as much, as, say, PA. So if you're 20 and perfectly healthy, and not overweight, in NY the average low/no deductible comprehensive health insurance policy runs around $400 a month.

If you picked up the vision plan (which is additional) then you'd need to contact them to see who takes it. Start with your broker. That's why you use a broker to get some direction. It's easier to contact the insurance company to find out where you can use it instead of calling all of the providers to see if they take it.

My mom can not afford her health insurance?

My mom had brain surgery to remove 2 aneurysms. She now is physically disabled and can not work. Her health is so poor she will probably never work again. Her health insurance company she had with her old job just dropped her and I found a company named Cobra that will accept her for now but they want almost 1,000 now and then over 400 a month. No one in our family can afford this sort of payment and she has to have health insurance. She is 62 years old. Would she qualify for medicare? What would you do in my situation? I am so worried thanks..
--------------------
she needs to apply for disability. Be aware that she may be turned down the first attempt, most people are. She also needs to see about the Medicare option as well since the disability is only going to cover her lost income, not provide medical insurance. Be aware also, (at least in the state that I live in) if she doesn't continue her insurance coverage through Cobra, if more than 60 days go by, she will be placed on a "previous condition" clause for a year. If she should buy a temporary policy through another company, or lucky enough to feel better to get another job, it doesn't matter, the pre existing condition will still apply. Which means any medical costs incurred due to her recent condition will not be covered.

What do we need in order to qualify for getting health/life insurance?

I heard that some insruane companies wouldn't allow individuals over 60+ years old for getting an insurance, especially those who are foreigners, is this true? Why they not allow that?
--------------------
This is not true. It is a common misconception that people over age 60 can't get life or health insurance. I work with mostly retired people and have never had a problem getting life insurace coverage provided they are in good health. People over te age of 60 are not considered high risk. Rates Life insurance companies charge are based on mortality tables (likelyhood of death based on current age and life expectancy) Yor current health can have an effect on the cost of the insurance was well as your age. A person who has some health problem in many cases can still quilify for life insurance just at a rated cost (higher premium due to health). Depending on the amount of life insurance you intend to apply for will determine that requirements to quilify. Every company has different requirements based on age and amount of coverage being applied for. With many companies if you applying for over $100,000 they may require a Paramed with blood and urine (at the expense of the insurance company). In some cases they may request to see the medical records (the insurance company orders them direct form the doctor). A resting EKG is also another thing they may want and is done at the same time as the paramed (again the insurance company pays this expense). Health insurance is a little different. They focus on morbidity which is the likelyhood of illness based on your current health and family history (parents, brothers and sisters). It can me more difacult to quilify for this type of coverage if you have exsisting medical issues. If you are working with an agent, ask him or her to submit your current health to the underwritter fo a ruleing. This can help you decide which company is most likely to insure you based on your health and family history.

Can a LLC claim health insurance payments (COBRA) as an expense? Family amt deductible or just individual?

The LLC is comprised of only me (the owner, president, etc.). I was paying COBRA for me and my two children.
--------------------
If you're paying cobra for your family then I'll have to assume it was from a previous regular job - not the LLC. That would make it personal so it goes on Schedule A as a medical expense subject to the 7.5% floor. And even if it was from your single member LLC it would end up being an adjustment to income on your 1040, not an expense on the schedule C.

First thing tomorrow call your insurance agent. You'll probably still be able to add and get coverage retroactively. The thing they might try to fight you on is getting pre-existing conditions covered (though your child probably doesn't have any, but you want the option open if anything develops).

is it true that Joe Six Pack is an alcoholic because his boss Joe the Plumber doesn't provide health insurance?

And Joe is freaking out about his kid's medical condition.
--------------------
That's only part of the problem. Joe six pack is stressed out because Joe the Plumber pays him minimum wage, and he can't afford to pay the bills. Joe the Plumber also doesn't give him enough hours, so not only does he make minimum wage, he can't even work full time. He is pissed that he can only afford cheap beer, and it's so watered down he can't even get a buzz off the six pack, the only thing he gets is gas and a debit of $5 from his bank account. He's also upset that his former favorite beer, Bud, is now owned by a company in Europe, so that's why he doesn't drink it anymore. Joe six pack is worried that Joe the Plumber will lay him off any day since Joe the Plumber wants to keep as much money for himself and wants to minimize his "costs" to pay his employees. Joe the Plumber is a little selfish with his money and cares more about the profit in his pocket than caring for his employees and providing them stability and group health insurance. Joe six pack now is in rehab for alcohol addiction, so when he applies for individual health insurance, he gets declined because he is high risk since he's an alcoholic, obese because of his beer gut, and has liver damage and high blood pressure. So he can't get coverage for himself or his family, and since his isn't HIPAA eligible, he has no access to health insurance.

I have the option to have my health insurance taken out of my check pre tax or post tax?

What does that mean and which one will leave me with the most take home pay at the end of the week
--------------------
Take the pre tax option. That portion of the check is not taxable income which puts you in a lower tax bracket and saves you from paying income tax on that portion of your check. If you make $50,000 per year and pay $5000 in health insurance you will only be taxed on $45,000 at year end (not including your other deductions.) The only time you should consider taking post tax (taxes are taken from your check before you pay for health insurance) is if you plan on collecting at the end of the year. Go with pre tax option.

Who should pay for health insurance?

I go to school full time and we have 2 children. My husband is self-employed and we have no health insurance. The children do, medicaid. My husband says when I am done with school, I should work full time to provide the family with health insurance. When I am sick and need to go to the doctor, he gives me attitude because we will incur another bill. I say if he wants to be self-employed, he should make enough to pay for it, or get a real job.
--------------------
First, having health insurance for yourself is important. One way or another you need to get some. At this point, since your husband is the sole breadwinner, he should pay for health insurance. There are plans out there for small businesses. What do you want to do after you finish school? If you desire, you can work part-time or full time. A full time job may provide you with some great insurance. Only work full time if you need the money or you want to. Do what is right for your family. Your children come first.

Voluntary health insurance: you voluntarily choose to have other people pay your bills?

Why do those who are pro-insurance seem to forget that other people are paying off their medical bills through their premiums? What happened to conservatives paying their own way in life? Hey republicans and conservatives: how about you pay your medical bills and I'll pay mine, and we do away with insurance.
--------------------
It might indeed have been better if things had remained that way. Health insurance was, after all, quite unusual before World War II. Two of the effects of the expanding insurance industry have been (1) costs have outstripped the rate of inflation by a good margin and (2) philanthropy, with the wealthy donating entire hospitals at times, has essentially disappeared from the scene. I don't quite see how the clock could be turned back, though.

Why should businesses be forced by law to provide health insurance to its workers?

What makes health care an employers responsibility any more than housing, transportation, or food is?
--------------------
The right wing of the Country trust business more than government. In all other civilized nations the people understand that the government should be for the people and that such a thing like the right to live is not something that should be traded on the stock market and available to only the wealthy and the very poor. In this country the guy who punches the clock everyday is going to be the one who is more apt to lose everything due to lack of or poor coverage.Until certain people understand that it is the guy trying to make a buck at your expense that we should be afraid of rather than people we choose to represent us then the people who give us a job will have to pay for the ignorance and generally this is small businesses who do most of the employing. And thy are not necessarily the wealthy ones.

Short term health insurance for baby?

I need to get health insurance for my 2 month old. I'll only need it for 3 months until my insurance's picks him up Jan. 1st. Anyone know any good companies or policies they've used for something like this? How much was the cost?
--------------------
Unfortunately, because of the health care reform act ALL insurance companies have stopped writing child only policies as of 9/23/10. The only way to get him on a policy is for an adult to be on with him, so you or your spouse also needs to sign up, even if you're going to be double covered for that time period. Also, you need to contact a local agent that works with all of the major companies in your area because every company has lower age limits. In my state those limits range from age 2 weeks to age 6 months with the different companies. Companies do not write policies in all states so any company I may mention may not even be available in your state. Your local agent can find the best policy at the lowest cost; there is no extra charge using an agent.

I'm looking to purchase health insurance, what should I look for?

My husband and I are both employed but neither of our jobs offer health insurance. What should we look for in an agent? What is an appropriate insurance plan? How long will it be before coverage starts with most plans? We are 28 and 29 years old and neither of us have any known major health problems. Thanks for the input!!
--------------------
Finding an agent that represents the most options is the most important thing. If there were one insurance company that had the best product at the best price for all looking for coverage, there would only be one insurance company offering coverage in your area. If I were looking for coverage for you and your husband, I would make the following recommendations: 1. If maternity is in the plan for the future, make sure that your plan has coverage for it now. You may not be able to make changes in coverage later, especially if you get pregnant. 2. Consider a High-Deductible Health Plan. If you are both healthy and don't use your insurance much, why pay for a plan that will give you the right to pay a small co-pay that you may never use? HDHP can also qualify you for a Health Savings Account. This is a tax-advantaged account that you can establish to help pay all or part of your deductible, in the event you need it. The deductibles don't have to be huge and scary, but must meet the minimum requirements as established by the IRS. Also, typically, coverage can begin almost immediate, depending on the insurance companies' requirements. Some require that applications be submitted by a certain date to bind coverage for the following month. Others have a "rolling" enrollment process, where coverage can be effective on the date the application is signed, provided you pass the underwriting process. Good luck in your seach.

I agree its ridiculous. If it was up to me no one that made less that $100,000/year would ever have to pay taxes. There's no point. People who make $100,000 + a year already pay 95% of taxes, why not make it 100%. And on health insurance. Sports stars, and actors would not be paid millions and billions. They would be paid no more than $50,000/year. And that money would go toward health care for Americans that made less than $100,000/year

--------------------
Some employer groups have pans set up on a contract year that does not run January - December, however most do renew annually on January 1st. If you contact the customer service number, they should be able to advise what the renewal date of your employer's plan is. Also, you should have been provided a summary of plan benefits by your employer and that should include the date range that the plan is in effect.

Does snyone know of any good health insurance plans in Michigan?

Preferably a PPO where preexisting conditions is not an issue. No deductible, low copays, no limit on doctor visits because as I stated before there are preexisting conditions, out of net-work coverage, and prescription drug coverage. (Female, 25, no children). Thanks in advance.
--------------------
There AREN'T any plans where "preexisting conditions are not an issue", unless you've had continuous insurance, and the new plan is through your employer. That's the only way you'll get preexisting conditions covered. If you try to get a private plan with preexisting conditions, they'll either deny you, or the conditions will be excluded.

Hey! What do you think of a Universal Health Insurance to the Virgin Islands (US)?

--------------------
The people that are complaining don't pay there taxes now. That has always been the problem. If you went in and really studied the tax system, you will find that these people are always working a scam. Tax abatement's, tax shelters, or don't pay their taxes period. They would rather get lawyer to fight the IRS then just pay their fair share, and there are millions of these people. So when somebody says to you I don't want to pay for you, they aren't paying their share in the first place, and that's not American.

We have two health insurance plans, from my wife and myself. Will one offset the other in co-pays?

i have Kaiser, and were about to choose another health plan of choice, either another HMO or PPO from her company, would one or the other offset the other's charges/ co-pay?
--------------------
They don't stack, they coordinate. Your plan is primary for you, your wife's plan is primary for her. Whatever the LOWER copay is, is the one you'll end up paying. When both plans have an 80/20 provision, you don't apply the 80% to the out of pocket amount of the first one - you still apply it to the total bill. So, the first plan pays 80%, the second pays NOTHING, because the total amount payable - 80% - was already paid by the first insurance.

Employees of a large company all choose 1 of 3 levels of health insurance coverage, for which premiums, denote

Employees of a large company all choose 1 of 3 levels of health insurance coverage, for which premiums, denoted by x, are 1, 2, 3 respectively. Premiums are subject to a discount, denoted by y, of 0 for smokers and 1 for non-smokers. The joint probability density function of x and y is given by: p(x,y) = { [(x² +y²)/31] for x = 1, 2, 3, and for y = 0, 1 } 0 otherwise Calculate the Variance of (x – y), the total premium paid by a randomly chosen employee.
--------------------
First, find p(x,y): p(1,0) = 1/31; p(2,0) = 4/31; p(3,0) = 9/31; p(1,1) = 2/31; p(2,1) = 5/31; p(3,1) = 10/31. The problem does not give the statistical weights, such as how many people smoke and how many do not. Since Sum(p) = 1, every possible case is to be treated as equally weighted (1/6). The expected value is 1/6. So the variance is easily calculated to be: [Sum(over all different x and y) (p - 1/6)^2]/6 = [Sum(p^2 - p/3 + 1/36)]/6 = [(1+16+81+4+25+100)/31^2 - 1/3 + 1/6]/6 = (227/961 - 1/6)/6 = 401/34596

Do you agree that insurance is largely to blame for inflation of health care expenses?

Aside from actual costs to manage a medical facility, the invention of insurance has generated additional costs that have nothing to do with treating or preventing illness/childbirth. Health care fees has become grossly inflated with expenses that have nothing to do with actual health: Cost of insurance coverage added to salaries and our taxes to cover national leaders completely: salaries and benefit packages for non-medical CEO and CFO's and other personnel such as employees that specialize in filling out medical forms, applying for benefits, filing all the information, collections of payments; insurance company pays for fraud investigators, employees to find technicalities to not pay benefits, their CEO and CFO and all other employees. My elderly dog needed jaw surgery: half was removed and it was wired. She stayed at the clinic getting IV fluid and medications for four days. Her bill was $395 (including tax and medications brought home). Had this been my mom, the hospital would be investigating the possibility of getting her home somehow in addition to charging her insurance, and any others she is eligible for them to sign up for, charging initially more than $20,000.00.

What does this statement mean and when Health Insurance coverage begins--?

Annual Insurance Deductible $7,500, starting at $55 a month. If I get this plan today and it begins in a week, can I start using my plan in a week? Or do I have to wait till I pay $7,500?
--------------------
A deductible is the amount you have to spend every year out of pocket before the coverage begins. There is usually a waiting period before benefits begin. This is not a good policy. Call a local insurance agent and ask for recommendations on several different companies and policies that fit your needs and budget with a low deductible. Also ask what the waiting periods are for different treatments in a given plan.

I want to get insurance incase anything happens to me, my daughter will be taken care of. Please kindly advise me! Long, succinct answers welcome..
--------------------
I don't think there's any way to answer your question in a simple way. There are a lot of different kinds of plans. Since you're single, you can probably qualify for medicaid, which is government funded. If you work a lot, doesn't your work offer insurance? You can also look up an insurance broker. Basically, you need to choose coverage for emergencies, for doctors visits, and a bunch of other stuff. You may or may not be able to get prescription coverage. Your monthly premium goes down when you raise your deductible, or the amount you pay every time you go to the doctor or emergency room.

Which means I don't pay for insurance I'm covered anywhere in Canada. and in times of sickness I don't worry about financial. As well I believe that most European nations have a government funded health care systems, as well as Australia, Cuba, and countless others. When you have a baby, the child is covered under the mother's health insurance for 30 days following birth...?

Is the child covered under the father's health insurance for 30 days as well? My husband and I have 2 different health insurance providers and I have a 35% coinsurance with my (I am the mother) insurance. I am now getting thousands of dollars of medical bills for the delivery of my child. I know I am responsible for my hospital stay, but I have a $4000 bill for my daughter's. Can I submit that to my husband's insurance?
--------------------
Not exactly true, for either of those. You have 30 days from the date the baby is born, to ADD that child, to mom's coverage, or dad's coverage. IF you add the baby, the baby is covered retroactive, from the date of birth. SOME state medicaid programs - welfare health insurance - WILL automatically cover the baby under mother's welfare health insurance, for the first 30 days, even if baby never gets added. IF the baby gets added to both mom's private insurance, and dad's private insurance, the "birthday rule" applies, as to whose coverage is primary - whoever has the first birthday, during the year, is primary. BUT, if dad does add baby, and you submit the bill, his coverages apply to the TOTAL AMOUNT, not just the part you have to pay. So, if dad also has a 35% coinsurance, then his insurance pays NOTHING, because yours already picked up 65% of the bill. If his has a 30% coinsurance, then his pays the difference - 5% of the TOTAL, not 65% of the BALANCE.

Why doesn't the military buy our troops private health insurance?

Instead of forcing them to use the military's socialized medical system. Don't our troops deserve better?
--------------------
You cannot compare the military medical system to private systems or to government run health care for the public. Military doctors and nurses are there voluntarily specifically to treat military personnel and their families. They have virtually unlimited resources to treat so their only limiting factor is hours they can work in a day. They have limited case loads and receive officer's pay (all doctors are officers and usually enter at Captain or better or are rapidly promoted). Being there voluntarily makes a huge difference in their attitude and morale; something they will not have when forced to become government bureaucrats.

It will require you to purchase a plan but not necessarily through your work. There will be a subsidy, in the form of a tax credit, if you make less than 400% of the federal poverty level. A tax credit subsidy means you must first purchase and pay for the policy and when you file your taxes each year you'll get a credit for a portion of the premiums. If you make less than 133% of the federal poverty level you will automatically be placed on Medicaid.

Why should an employer be obligated to provide health insurance to employees? This hurts business.?

wouldn't we be better off buying it on our own like auto insurance? i've never expected my job to provide me auto insurance.
--------------------
Yeah, word! I hope it isn't too late and we can get a real healthcare revolution where we Americans prove that the free markets CAN prevail. If they would only allow health insurance to be treated like auto insurance we could fix this mess but no way do the professional power mongers and people who have been touting how great it is in socialist systems want to allow that to happen. I think that if there were insurance companies that gave Americans actual incentives to stay healthy... now that would be great for America. If there were companies that say gave massive discounts to people for losing weight, working out, having stamina and training... you're darn right that would motivate people to take care of themselves. I know that if I was getting paid, basically, to be healthy... I would probably be working out right now instead of laying in bed typing online. Hahahahaha... seriously. Right now the only way to get a return from your insurance is to get sick or hurt. Insurance companies should be allowed to give people a return for losing weight or working out but they can't do that now. At least not where I live.

Canada and the UK pay 60% of their income for healthcare??? Where did you pull that figure from..... it is NOT true. I have family and friends that live in Canada, the Netherlands, and Ireland.. and friends in Sweden.. this is such a lie. Their taxes are close to the SAME as ours! You can even go online and look at the amounts, in Canada it is 20-30% depending on what you make, just like OURS! Ours is typically 20-40% depending on your income. I am amazed at people who spout those numbers when they are not based on fact. Here is a link to the average tax rates around the world: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tax_rates_a… Their taxes are only at the higher end when their incomes are very high- meaning over $500,000. For the average person it is on the low end, and in a lot of cases it is actually lower then ours. Rumours have been spread from the conservatives and insurance companies, etc. who don't want you to know how much better health care is in other countries. Before stating something like this, why don't you travel to other developed countries, get to know the local people and find out the truth.

Affordable health insurance? My husband's work does not pay for mine nor our son's insurace so we pay out of?

pocket. We have Aetna right now but they just keep jacking our prices up. My husband has not been to the doctor at all this year and they have raised his prices too. Does anyone know of a good health insurance plan that is affordable please?? Thank you!
--------------------
Well, EVERYONE keeps getting their prices jacked up, because, well, claims keep going up! There isn't any 'surcharge' for claims - when ALL the 40 year old men in your state, on average, put in more claims, then EVERYONE in that age range, will see an increase. Affordable is in the eye of the beholder. A GOOD low/no deductible family plan, is GOING to cost $1200 to $1500 a month. That's what it costs. To lower the cost, you need to lower your coverage, or raise your deductiblel, or both. But that means more out of pocket, for you, for claims. You probably should sit down with a local agent, to have them help you balance coverages and costs to find something you can afford.

What happens to private health insurance companies if American health care is nationalized?

Few would be willing to dish out for private coverage while they are receiving health care from government taxation. Would the private health industry perhaps dwindle down to a few big players and be forced to take a hit by improving coverage and care?
--------------------
~~This is a mute point because Nationalized insurance is not in the works. All the government is proposing is an alternative for people who can't get employer based insurance to be able to buy directly from the same insurance that senators and congressmen get. Otherwise, business as usual for private insurance companies.~~

Personal Health Insurance: who should obtain medical evidence?

I live in England. My Personal Health Insurance has been turned down because no medical evidence was sent in by my employer who was handling the claim. My employer says this was not up to them but it was up to the insurance company to obtain it. Who should of obtained it. I myself provided evidence to my employers but they never sent it in with my claim.

YOU need to obtain it from your prior insurer.

What financial class are you in (i.e. middle class) and do you have a decent health insurance/ healthcare plan

Hey, I'm writing a paper on the current health insurance system in America, and we have to present a statistic from a survey we did. I thought this would be the place that I'd find the most diverse people, so I chose that. Please, just say if you're happy with your health insurance plan and your financial class (optional). Thanks!
--------------------
Well, we're not going to be diverse - most of us here are insurance geeks, so most of us WILL have insurance. You might be better off hanging out at the grocery store. Also, you'll need to define financial class. I consider myself to be middle class, and think my health insurance is pretty good. And I'm happy with it.

Would you deny a toddler health insurance because she is underweight?

The parents of a two-year-old girl in Colorado are unable to obtain health insurance for their daughter because the insurer, United Healthcare Golden Rule, claims she is too small. In a letter sent to the family of the child, Aislin Bates, United Healthcare Golden Rule writes, "we are unable to provide coverage for Aislin because her height and weight do not meet our company standards." According to a Colorado news station, Aislin weighed six pounds, six ounces at birth, and now weighs 22 pounds. When Robert Bates, the girl's father, left his former job to start his own business, he was forced to seek out his own health insurance, and enrolled his family in an insurance plan with United Healthcare Golden Rule. "It took me by surprise," Bates told ABC 7 in Denver. "I didn't think that her size was that abnormal and that it was something that you'd consider to be unhealthy."

So now I understand that all liberals are unemployed and have no health insurance? Do those numbers add up?

Let me see if I understand who liberals are, based on the questions posted in the last few minutes: 1. Liberals are all unemployed. 2. Liberals don't have health insurance. 3. Yet all liberals drive Volvos and drink lattes. 4. And finally, all liberals voted for Obama--all 53 million of them. Is there something wrong with this picture? Who believes that there are 53 million unemployed, uninsured, latte-drinking Volvo-driving people in this country? Just curious.

does the health care reform bill require people to have health insurance?

hr3200, does it require health insurance the same way that people need auto insurance?
--------------------
Pretty much. The only way you can require insurance companies to cover everyone, and have everyone pay basically the same premium (technically called community rating versus individual rating) is to mandate that everyone be covered. Otherwise, many people would not buy insurance until they got sick, but companies would not be allowed to deny coverage to them, or even charge them higher premiums. HR 3200 (the main Democratic bill) has an employer mandate. Somehow that is thought to be politically more palatable than an individual mandate, though an economist will tell you that there's really not much difference between the two. Poor people who can't afford insurance would get assistance in the form of vouchers or refundable tax credits.

Need to learn how to verify health insurance benefits for an internist office .?

Just started a job and it is a new office-would like to learn how to verify health benefits and to do authorizations -Is there anyone out there that can give me some info on this??
--------------------
It's best to set up a verification sheet that has the pt's insurance name, id#'s, contact phone # (usualy found on the patients insurance card), who you spoke with there, effective date, co-pay amount (and if it's due for this type of visit) deductible (and amount met), co-insurance amount, out of pocket amount (and amount met). If pre-certification or authorization is needed for any procedures or diagnostic testing (this does not necessarily have to be done at the initial visit, only if a special test or procedure is ordered by the doctor.)Some insurance base this on the cost of the procedure (say over $1000) or if it's an out patient or in-patient procedure done in a hospital or out-patient surgery center. HMO's will almost always need prior auth from the pt's PCP. That way, this verification can be saved in the patients chart as documentation if any questions arise later.

Can I get birth control at Planned Parenthood without Health Insurance?

I'm getting married in 2 months and we we're thinking it might be cheaper to try and get birthy control from Planned Parenthood instead of paying insurace monthly AND getting birth control. Is this possible?

Planned Parenthood does business based on your income. If you can't afford healthcare, then you can get birth control for Free including IUD's. what is a good health insurance?

HI i need help in looking for a good health insurance. I need one since i am unemployed. What documents should i bring in so i do not have to go back and forth. Well any advice is obliging. thank you.
--------------------
Do you have a way to pay for coverage? Good health insurance is any major medical comprehensive plan that covers accident/injury/illness. Try CinergyHealth.com Ususally, "good health insurance" is one plan that is an employee benefit paid by your employer and you pay the group rate for a single person at about 100 a month or less. Some offer dental and vision coverage and have different levels of care depending on how healthy you are, or if pregnant or high risk and depends if you have a chronic illness, such as diabetes, heart disease, smoking, obesity, mental/substance illness/abuse and depends on what medications you need on a regular basis. go to eHealthInsurance.com for comparative plans. Kaiser Permanente offers different levels of preventative/wellness/health plans depending on your state of health. Some plans require numerous authorizations for procedures. some are preventative. If you are healthy, any of the above would be helpful. The goal is to pay the least and get the most health coverage you can with the least out of pocket expenses. Good luck.

Would letter of creditability from a previous insurance carrier guarantee issue of health insurance?

A doctor left his job in another state and moved to Florida. The group insurance he had expired 20 days ago. The employer advised him he should be getting a "letter of creditability". Does this mean his pre existing condition will be covered with the new insurance company and they cannot deny him? thanks
--------------------
No. It guarantees only that if a policy is issued that will eventually cover the condition, then there will be no waiting period between when coverage starts and when coverage for the condition starts. it does not mean that a policy will be issued at all, and it does not mean that the policy will ever cover the condition.

If the government can't compel everyone to own a firearm or printing press then why health insurance?

I don't see how this can possibly withstand a constitutional challenge
--------------------
Because if you don't have health care coverage, and you're hurt or fall ill, you're still going to require medical attention, and it will be at the expense of taxpayers, regardless... by the way, it's not mandatory.. most people will be covered by their employers, who otherwise face fines for not providing health care, and even if that doesn't apply to you, you can provide proof of the financial assets necessary to cover potential medical expenses

Do those who can afford health insurance actually have health insurance? Why would rich people want insurance?

If you can afford your own services it seems stupid to me to pay some company to pretend to do something for you. What a waste of money to a company called a health insurance
--------------------
Yes we do. It is neither stupid nor a "waste of money". It would be great if it were cheaper but good health care is important. Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. I understand how difficult it must be if you don't have it. But for those who do, it's a no-brainer to have it. Not even a thought ...if we care about our families health. My only issue is that contrary to what all of these politicians have said I do NOT think or buy into this ludicrous idea that "Every American deserves the same quality of health insurance". Are you kidding me? Then I guess every American deserves to drive a Mercedes-Benz SLR to huh? ...Every American deserves what every American earns. Period.

Is it fair to send people to jail who don’t buy health insurance?

That is one of the requirements passed by the House of Representatives last Saturday, and Speaker Pelosi sees no problem with it. http://hotair.com/archives/2009/11/12/pe… Should it be a crime to pay as you go for medical services, i.e., to be self-insured?
--------------------
According to Pelosi it is "fair." I don't see it that way. The government cannot require you to purchase something. Some will argue they require auto insurance, but you're not forced to buy it if you don't have a car -- only if you want to drive your car. Instead of mandating health insurance, why don't they mandate exercise three times a week for 30 minutes?

How do you get covered for health insurance in italy?

I want to know, Im an american
--------------------
We don't have insurance in Italy. There is the Azienda Sanitaria Nazionale (ASN), which pays everthing for us. If you need urgent assistance, you go to "pronto soccorso" in hospital and they must cure you, without asking you nothing. For everything else, everybody has a "medico di base": he's a family doctor, which examine you when you need, for free. Doctors are then paied by ASN (and we pay it with general taxes). There's a private sector, too. But you don't need insurance: you go and pay directly.

If I am immigrating to the UK or Canada how do I get health insurance?

Is there a plan you can buy? Appreciate your help!
--------------------
There are two issues here, really: your immigration status, and health insurance. In general, to immigrate, you must petition the correct government in order to gain a visa to enter the country. With most governments, when you are approved for immigration, you will be provided with information and phone numbers for people who can assist you with getting settled in the country. This will include information about obtaining health insurance. Within the UK, people who have the right to live in the country do not have to buy insurance. Having said that, it is very difficult to gain the right to enter the UK on a permanent basis. There are many boxes you must tick before you can enter. For more information, please see: http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/ Good luck!

what should i know about chosing health insurance?

i went online and found several quotes. what should i be looking for? im married, 20, and a full time student. how big of a deductable should i be going for?
--------------------
Honestly, I would suggest getting an HSA with a decent sized deductible, like $2500 and then putting as much away as possible in the savings account because unfortunately, you'll need it in future. Do yourself a favor and be VERY frugal with ALL health care expenses, BUT get a good physical every year--over time you will be glad you did. Try to get generic prescriptions if you need them. Save, save, save all you can. Read your policy well in case God forbid you get a serious illness because all the large insurers try NOT to pay for expensive people. You'll be ahead of the game, however, if you have your own insurance instead of through an employer. Good luck, good health, God bless.

I am an international student doing masters in US.Can I get a free health insurance coverage for limited time?

can i get a free health insurance coverage for limited time (companies giving offers like free coverage for one month like that)
--------------------
No one has free insurance coverage here. You can contact a health insurance company and purchase a policy for a few months. When I was between jobs, I purchased a 60 day policy for about 200. It did not pay much, but helped out in the event of a major injury. Depending on where you go to school - many colleges and universities have a student health services where you can get free and low cost care. It does not handle major injuries etc. But if you need to see a dr because you are sick, that is an option.

Conservatives, how would paying into a single-payer health insurance plan cost more than paying a private?

insurer, if you're paying for a plan either way? And no, that give me that "private sector is more efficient than the government bull crap". It has nothing to do with savings in this case anyways.
--------------------
Because the government plan is pork barrel ridden with massive amounts of extra costs due to corruption that is used. to pay off all of the political hacks and their friends. Essentially the Corruption that is associated with government programs generally adds at least 30 to 50% to the cost of the government program when compared with similar private programs that are not subject to all of the graft, bribery, dishonesty and corruption that you find in the government programs.

Is there a statute of time, health insurance lien holders have to seek payment on a personal injury settlement

This question is for the state of New York.
--------------------
Not exactly. Once the lein is there, it's there forever, until discharged by bankruptcy court or debt payment. But the subrogation laws are still subject to the statute of limitations. This translates as, if you don't sue the at fault party before your state statute of limitations is up, you can't collect any money from them, and neither can your health carrier. But if the settlement is offered and accepted, your health insurer can come after you - with no time limit - to be reimbursed for the money YOU received, that should have been used to cover the medical bills, they covered. You can't double dip - be paid by two different people for the same claim. So that second payment is going to be recoverable by the first payer, forever.

Do you think health insurance companies are in the business of providing health care?

or are they in the business of denying health care? They only make money when they deny health care. Would not health care costs drop if we eliminated this unnecessary middle man?
--------------------
Most health insurance companies are businesses, and are there to make money. There are some not for profit health insurance providers, but they're still businesses, and they still have to bring in money to cover operating expenses. There is a growing trend in the medical business, cash only doctors. Without all the overhead and middlemen to deal with their services cost less than those of doctors participating in managed care contracts. That may be the way to make health care affordable, get rid of the insurance companies.

If everone in America canceled thier health insurance, what would happen?

I've been saying that is what we really need to do for quite a while. Insurance is a middleman industry and middlemen never make anything cheaper.

Have you ever lost your income, car, home and health insurance due to an illness. How did you recover?

I saw similar questions on yahoo answers but no one seemed to answer that question. I'm not talking about your soul or your life, rather i'm talking about your ability to survive in the modern world. Like it takes money to buy food, and it takes money to buy a car which is needed to get to work, but you need work to get a car, but you cant't work because you have no transportation. And if your off work for an illness you need a doctor's statement that you can work, but you have to have money to see a doctor which you don't have because you aren't working. I'm talking about the circle of thinking that gets you nowhere like you have to have this to get that, but in order to get that you have to have this which is dependent on something else that you can't do because of some other obstical.

your thinking to far ahead, when you get up in the morning just think about making it through one day.
