Can I stay on my spouse's Health Insurance if I divorce him?

I live in Michigan, and he is employed with the Federal Government. I want to file for divorce (he cheated). But I need to know if I can remain covered on his health insurance policy through his employer.
--------------------
I highly doubt it. Since you will be divorced and no longer his wife, I don't think you will be allowed to remain on his insurance. Kids are a different story, but ex spouses? Not likely.

Does health care reform influence the insurance market?

And more specifically, how does it affect premiums and how health care is distributed, and the way people purchase it? I've been reading into how the free rider aspect can negatively influence the cost of health insurance and what that cost means to taxpayers. But does the health reform bill change how people choose to purchase insurance, such as what type? Will people purchase more short-term insurance for instance, over long-term insurance simply to fulfill the mandates? And how does this change competition between providers? Are providers harmed? Websites with information would be helpful. Thank you.
--------------------
Absolutely it does. Just look at the current result of the health reform act - you can no longer buy a child only health insurance policy, and maternity benefit options are rapidly drying up for individual policies. They'll be gone before 2014, due to the "preexisting condition" exclusion not being allowed. Prices are skyrocketing. Already, the cap has been lifted on lifetime coverage limits for children, and preexisting conditions can no longer be excluded for them. Estimates for coverage price increases come January 1st, are 25% to 40% across the board. This is to cover the extra costs, associated with elimintating caps on very sick children, and mandating coverage for preexisting conditions for them. The result will naturally be, fewer people will be able to afford to buy health insurance coverage. Yep, we'll have FEWER insured people. Also, the people good at math, will realize it's cheaper to pay $700 fine, once a year, and only buy coverage when they have to file a big claim, than it will be to pay $500 every month, and ALWAYS have insurance in place. That "adverse selection" issue will have to result in the insurance companies coming up with a method to incentivize healthy people to buy health insurance, to offset the unhealthy people. I think people aren't going to bother to comply wtih the mandates. It's cheaper not to. Just like welfare payments pay more, to women with children who are not married, giving them incentives to have children outside of marriage - this system encourages people financially to NOT buy insurance.

Health insurance after I marry my soon to be Marine?

My fiance is currently at Marine Corp boot camp in Parris Island,SC. He graduates September 10th, we are getting married September 19th.I'm confused with everything that happens after that (when I get to go with him, where exactly he will be etc).I would also like to know if as soon as we marry am I covered by his health insurance and if not how long thereafter? Thanks in advance for your answers.
--------------------
My hub is in the Army, we got married, then i enrolled myself in a program called deers and was covered by tri-care (military insurance) so yes you will be covered as soon as you marry, It took a while for them to put me the system but a day after we got married we went to get my military ID, and I used that as proof that I had his insurance.

Does anyone know of a good inexpensive health insurance for a single person?

health insurance
--------------------
There is no one company or plan that is best for every person in every situation. If you visit a local independent agent you'll be able to compare the hundreds of policies available in one place. The agent knows the market in your area and can find the best plan for your situation and budget. The plans and premiums are exactly the same whether you go through the agent or buy directly from the company. You may get answers here concerning medical discount plans. Be very wary of these plans. They are not regulated by the Department of Insurance nor do the people that sell them need to be licensed. This means you have little recourse when you have problems with the plan. If you are tempted by the low price and claims of "save up to 80%" be aware that very few doctors actually take these cards. It does you little good if you have to drive 4 hours to find a doctor that will accept the card. Montana couldn't find any doctors in the whole state that actually took the card and only one dentist who was on probation for unlawful activities so they banned the sale of the card and fined the company. See this link http://www.insurancejournal.com/news/wes… for more information. Many other states are starting to ban these cards as well. Before signing up with any discount plan get a list of doctors. If they won't give you a list consider it to be a scam. Call the doctors on the list to make sure they're still taking the card (many don't even know that they're listed as a provider) and that they're accepting new patients.

What would a good catastrophic health insurance policy be for a low income texas resident?

I'm seeking the lowest premium, highest deductible. What company should I research??/ I"ve seen BCBS and Unicare. Any and all info welcome. TY
--------------------
I would suggest looking at you personal financial position. How much can you afford that wouldn't financially devastate you for the rest of your life. Granted $5,000 would be a tough pill to swallow, but financially you could probably pay it off. Remember, no matter what plan you choose, the claim might go to your deductible but you would still receive the provider discount, which is usually a nice amount. Go with a high deductible with 100% co-insurance so you know what your stop loss is (your maximum out of pocket) BCBS is a good solid company, I have also seen low rates with American Community

How expensive is it to have a baby if you have great health insurance?

Its just that my husband and i want to have a baby but we're not real financially satble yet.
--------------------
Really depends on your insurance and if you hospital is a provider who accepts your insurance. Also depends if your baby is born on time with no complications. Some insurances will pay all but your deductible, others pay only a portion. Why not call your insurance company and your hospital billing office and they should be able to give you a rough estimate of what you will have to pay out of your own pocket.

Should people die if they cannot afford health insurance?

Believe it or not, people have died because their insurance company dropped them and/or refused to pay for treatment, or they had no insurance at all. Just watch Micheal Moore's Sicko to realize this disturbing reality. At any rate, do you think it's allright that people die because they dont have the means to pay for their survival?
--------------------
Of course not, and that fact that Americans are defending this type of health care system is quite troubling. To everyone saying that hospitals have to treat you: if you go into the emergency room with a serious condition, they have to stabilize you and then send you on your way. Expect a huge bill in the mail the next day. However, if you have something like cancer, or need some type of transplant, there is no way that you are even seeing the inside of a hospital without an insurance company willing to pay your bills. Vienna: you're in some serious need of a reality check. Which countries are bankrupt? Canada is one of the only western words with a SURPLUS while the US is the one in deep financial debt. As for life expectancy, people in Canada tend to not only live longer than Americans, but have overall healthier lives. You should double-check these 'facts' of yours.

How does Osteoarthritis affect my health insurance premiums?

Can I get an individual plan in the future if I am diagnosed with this illness?
--------------------
Osteoarthritis is a fairly common condition covered by nearly all medical plans. The drug Fosamax, one of the most common courses of medication therapy in Osteoarthritis, will be going generic within the next six months and will thus lower the prices associated with this.

Which is more expensive - 25% health insurance premium hikes or Obamacare?

Health & Human Services predicts waves of health insurance premium hikes across the nation averaging 25% with some as high as 39%.
--------------------
Well, nothing will change for the people who already have insurance in Obama's plan and that's around 80% of the people. The only thing that will change is that costs will be controlled and so the contributions employees will have make will drop. By making insurance companies compete for clients the premium hikes will also be under control, so I would think health care reform would be less expensive for most people. However, the part of the plan that goes into medicare reform and the public option may make the plan a little expensive to tax payers, but I am not sure of that.

If I have a PPO Health Insurance plan, can I go to any doctor without a referral?

I've been having some stomach pains lately, and really want to see a gastroenterologist. I am now covered by my universities PPO plan, can I go to any doctor and will they accept it?
--------------------
Yes, you can go to any doctor. However, you need find a doctor in the network if possible. If you go to a doctor that's in the network all you'll pay for the doctor visit is the co-pay. Depending on the policy you may also have other expenses such as lab work. When a doctor is in the network they agree to accept a certain $ amount for a procedure which in most cases is less than the doctor would normally charge. For a simple example; most specialists in my area charge around $200 for a basic visit. The amount they agree to accept from the insurance company is around $120. You'll pay the co-pay for the specialist, usually around $40, and the insurance company will pay $80. If you go to a doctor that is not in the network the doctor does not agree to accept the same $ amount as an in-network doctor. Also, you'll have to pay the entire charge first and then submit the bill to the insurance company. So to use the above example you'll pay the doctor the $200. You'll then submit the bill and the insurance company will reimburse you $80.

Can you chose if you want to use your health insurance?

I am having to come out of pocket over $400 for 1 physical therapist appointment. I think it will be less if I just pay the office upfront. Can I ask that they not go through my insurance company??
--------------------
You absolutely can ask them to do so. Just be sure your primary Dr gets the reports from them so it is all in your medical records or ask them to provide you with a copy of the notes from each visit so you can send them to your Dr. Some PT offices do give you a price break if you pay cash and pay it 100% up front. But some of them are not telling you the full price with insurance as they are willing to accept the amount the insurance pays and your deductible and co-pays as full payment for services rendered. Also, if you ever have to go back will the price be the same again or will you have satisfied your deductible for the year and it will only cost you your co-payment next time? Consider this too before you make a decision. So, check with them first to see if there is a price break for cash payment.

which is best health insurance company in india?

Hi, I want to buy health insurance for my family. So which is best health insurance company in india? Thanks
--------------------
I do not understand why people are so willing to fall ill. If you spend the money and time in educating yourself about health you can save lot of money. You need to understand that insure company gives a large amount of the premium you pay to insurance agents. They spend lot of money on advertisements. They spend lot of money on office overheads etc. All that is your money paid by way of premium. You need to save the money from younger age. If you put aside the money that you will pay for insurance, you will never need insurance. People do not trust themselves to save that money and hence they pay others. I think people can learn to trust themselves by practice. Good luck. Second important thing is to spend time in educating yourself about health. It is no fun to fool yourself by thinking that you have insurance so you need not worry.

I need to purchase private health insurance and have no clue about whos good and what to watch for?

For adult male and two younge children. Needed now! No money for huge deductables, but no money for large monthly premiums, and cant afford to get ripped off on some online scam thing.
--------------------
It kind of depends on where you live. If you live on the West Coast then Kaiser Insurance is good - especially if you have children - and it's affordable with little or no co-pay and a reasonable monthly premium. The drawback is I think that they're only in Washington, Oregon, California and Texas. You might want to Google them and see if they're in other states too.

Is health insurance the solution, or the problem?

We hear a lot about the 47 million Americans without health insurance, the ones that get their critical care at the emergency room. Democrats want to cut-and-run with regards to national health care, that is, they want to issue another 47 million laminated cards and call it "Mission Accomplished." But in Michael Moore's movie, "Sicko," we learn that people with insurance are often worse off. They are frequently denied various treatments; more foreboding: private healthcare practices often limit the number of "insured" patients they will take-on (with Medicare/Medicaid leading the list of undesirable insurance) because of the hassle and less-than-reasonable reimbursements. More people on government insurance with less physicians willing to see them doesn't sound "progressive" to me. So, if national insurance isn't the solution, what is?
--------------------
Michael Moore has never taught anyone anything. But I do agree that sometimes having insurance is a pain in the neck becuase of the limitations to it. Thats why I'm for the states or the federal government creating universal health care.

I know it's a family hospital, but do they let your parents know everything when you go see them for something like a vaginal check up?
--------------------
A lot of health insurance companies will share information with the primary policy holder so if you are a dependent on your parent's plan then they probably could find out if they wanted to check. If you are over the age of 18 and are concerned about this issue and want to find a health insurance policy then you may want to consider a cheap student health insurance plan. Here is some more information on finding the best student health insurance:
