what is wrong with guaranteed health insurance for every american?

the nasty people who just want to be rude and insult people -- go away, or let's arrange a meeting place and i'll see u there ;) those who are good at diatribes, please tell me i think this is something that is christian and moral and kind and good, so i don't get those who are against it.
--------------------
Your Imaginary friend jesus aside, nothing. Many would like to argue that it would create a system of substandard care. Or that people would abuse it because it is free. But look at our educational system. There still exists a private education system that is thriving. People continue to pay for a service despite the fact that they could consume a comparable service for free. Furthermore, some public schools offer superior educations while others are indeed substandard. This has more to do with socio-economic factors than anything. So if we can have an education system that allows for the public to utilize or not utilize. That provides services to those who want them, why couldn't we have the same for health care. The government could offer a baseline of acute care and preventative services. People who could afford it would still have premium insurance and providers. I just don't understand the arguments of socialism and abuse of the system. Like people would just go to the doctor because its free. I mean we buy bottles of water even though there are free alternatives. And we have an educational system that does not make us socialist. As long as there are health care choices and they are not mandated, much like the educational system, why not. As far as the who is going to pay for it question. c'mon. Since when are we counting pennies. Who is paying for the medicare drug program? We are. Who is paying for the wars? We are. The bottom line is, isn't our collective health something that should be prioritized? We are the richest nation on the planet. Don't we have a moral obligation to provide access to health services? People should not be dying in this country because of an inability to access care. That simple. It is important. It is an ethical imperative and it needs to be prioritized above other things that we are expending enormous amounts of money and resources on.

What's the age limit you can be on your parents health insurance?

My daughter had to recently switch from her dad's...can she go on mine?
--------------------
Depends on whether the child is a full time student (college). If she is, then she can stay on your health coverage until 22 or 23 years old (depends on the health plan). The information should be in your health plan documents and if you can't find it, contact your health plan for a copy.

Am I obligated to get Health Insurance now?

is it like Car Insurance,do you have to have it? What if I can't afford the plans out there, what is going to happen?
--------------------
yes. that is the law if this thing sticks. depending on which bill is ultimately passed you will be fined either about 700 or 2100 a year. it is not clear what happens if you cannot pay that, but it is being collected by the IRS if that is any clue. generally if you cross the IRS you end up in prison. i am in the same boat. i work 7 days a week but dont make much money. there are tax credits promiced for lower oncome people, but thats no good for me. bush already eliminated income taxes for poeple in my bracket. i have a neck injury and go to the local free clinic for the uninsured, but now it will close. there is a doctor in a nearby town that only charges 35 per visit that i sometimes go to . but now, going to the doctor and just paying him is against the law. i dont know what people like us are supposed to do short of going on the public dole and becoming democrats (something i have resisted all of my life). i think the plan all along was to force people into government dependency.

Do health insurance companies assist with travel expenses?

My daughter had surgery out of state. I don't see anything on the HI website but I was wondering if they reimburse for some travel? I stayed with my daughter so it's just flights. I'm assuming not but thought I would ask to see if anyone has had experience with this. Thank you!
--------------------
I've had policies with various insurers over the years, but never one which covered travel expenses for anyone but the patient, and then only with pre-approval which showed the need could not be met by local facilities. I hope she's recovering quickly!

Health insurance is too high?

Who actually has health insurance?

Just about everyone I know doesn't have health insurance. This sounds pretty bad. Who actually has health insurance?
--------------------
I do, but I have to pay for my husband's, since he can only get insurance through me. He just got it a few months ago. Until then he joked he was on the Republican health care plan: "Don't Get Sick." Yeah, I agree, it does sound pretty bad. Did you know that the US is one of only two industrialized nations in the world without a national health care plan? The other is South Africa. (That may have changed, I haven't see any statistics in a couple of years.)

Is it legal for your workplace to tell you that you have to keep their health insurance?

They are saying that I have to keep it until October when it is time for "open enrollment", unless there is a death, birth, marriage, divorce, etc. I can drop my car insurance anytime I want to, but I HAVE to keep this insurance? Sounds fishy to me. Anyone know?

Many (maybe most) employer-provided insurance plans have a limited window in which you can make any changes, including cancelling. This is a normal practice.

Is there a health insurance that will cover pregnancy? Please help!?

My husband and I are trying to plan our first child together. If he puts me on his company's health insurance a couple of months prior and then I get pregnant, are they required to cover the pregnancy? Please help!! (I do not want to get on Medicaid) Thanks. Have any of you ladies have had any luck with health insurance?
--------------------
Group insurance policies cannot consider pregnancy to be a preexisting condition. That doesn't mean that pregnancy, except complications of pregnancy, would be covered. However, the vast majority of group plans cover pregnancy and maternity. Don http://mtnhealthinsurance.com

How do young people afford health insurance, cars, rent, school, etc. Even with 3 or 4 roommates in a studio?

appartment in an expensive area sucks up income. What if things aren't within walking distance and no mass transit? where do people cut back. do they quit school and work 3 jobs? I think A/C is a good thing to cut back on provided none of them have asthma etc. Obviously, cable and phone bills can be cut back or eliminated. What is the best way for people to budget?
--------------------
Make a list of your purchases and see where you can cut back. Are you buying too many clothes? Spending money on eating out at lunch everyday? Maybe a coffee or an soft drink on breaks? You can bring your lunch to school and work.

Does any one have humana health insurance?

If, so how was your experience with them? I'm thinking about applying to their Autograph Share 80/5000 Plus Rx & Doctor Visit Copay plan.
--------------------
I have humana. I bought them online from http://www.lvhealthins.com They have been great to deal with and the showed me all the options including Blue Cross, Unicare, Aetna, Assurant, Humana and American National. We got to see the rates for all the leading companies. Our deductible is much lower than yours. You might want to check with your agent on what a lower deductible would costs. If you have a hospital stay you will have to pay that deductible out of pocket.

Why do people want to vote for McCain when he wants 2 give every family just 5,000 for health care insurance?

His plan is to give each family in America $5,000, when you get your check-ups the bill can run up to about $250. But if there is more than six heads in the house than you look at it yearly. That's already $18000 in one year we can't afford our family health and that's $1300 over the money McCain gives us... Think of your love ones 7 days left.
--------------------
My Job pays 1570.00 a month for each family. 625.00 for each individual. If someone gave me 5000.00 and told me I had to pay that myself each month I would cry. McCain's healthcare plan is the worse of ALL his plans to me.

If I withdraw from a class will I still be covered with health insurance?

Here's the deal.. I'm currently taking 15 credit hours and I am sure to fail one class that is 4 hours. If I fail this class, will I still be covered? If I withdraw from the class and get a W, would I be covered? Also, I am already registered for 16 hours for next semester. Would this fact change anything? Please help :-/
--------------------
depends on how often you fill out your insurance forms, mine was once a year, so they never noticed. if you fail you will be covered it still taking the class after all. Withdrawing depends, since its December I doubt your school will let you withdraw anyway, but if you can then do so, it wont hurt most likely, and one you start the next semester (in less then a month for most schools) you will be covered. I say drop it if you can to avoid a F.

Will someone please give me a summary as to how Obamacare is going to make health insurance cheaper for all?

and help take down the federal deficit? I personally just don't understand how it will. Thanks!
--------------------
it's easy. NObamaCare will bankrupt health insurance, then bring down the financial markets, then bring down medical care, so all Americans will live under Socialism and health insurance will cost NOTHING because under Socialism it's all free

I'm trying to find a better health insurance plan, what's the best website to go to compare health insurance?

I previously had blue cross and blue sheild but the providers I could choose with that plan was really limited. I want to find one that will let me go to whatever doctor I want to go to.
--------------------
Great question! There are several sites that do this, a lot of them vary by state. Consumer Reports did a ranking of health insurance companies awhile ago, as did US News and World Report (I believe). Try their sites - although you might have to pay for access on the Consumer Reports site. Try these: http://health.usnews.com/sections/health… http://web.ncqa.org/tabid/60/Default.asp… It also matters what state you are in... I googled Health Insurance Plans Rankings... which you can do, and then look for sites specific to your state. Good luck!

if poor people could not afford Health insurance before?

Can anyone tell me how they will be able to afford it now that it is mandatory? If they don't get some health insurance they will get a a bill from the IRS/fine and will be forced to pay that way either way they pay for it. if not please have your facts how did you find that information
--------------------
Health insurance isn't mandatory NOW, contrary to what some may say; the penalty fees will only start in 2014. The only reason I think people would get in trouble with the government itself is if they FAIL to pay those fees. HR 3590 has lots of ways to protect those who don't make that much money. In 2014, Medicaid will be extensively expanded. If adults (with or without children) doesn't exceed 133% of the federal poverty level according to the poverty guidelines that are put into place at the time, they will be eligible, for example. And if you earn too much to be eligible for the Medicaid, you may be eligible for government subsidies to help you pay for exchanges starting in 2014. Premium subsidies will be available for individuals and families with incomes between 133% and 400% of the poverty level, and the subsidies will be based on a sliding scale. For example, a family of four earning 150% of the poverty level will have to pay 4% of its income on premiums. A family with income of 400%of the poverty level will have to pay 9.5 percent. These are only a few of the ways, but I suggest getting the actual information from the bill itself.
