I'm a single mother 31 years old, good health, and I want to get health insurance, but I need easy answers!

I'm confused by it all and don't want to do much reading, can someone break it down to me reasonbly because I work a lot and don't have a lot of time to research this stuff!!! Please help. I want to get insurance incase anything happens to me, my daughter will be taken care of. Please kindly advise me! Long, succinct answers welcome..
--------------------
I don't think there's any way to answer your question in a simple way. There are a lot of different kinds of plans. Since you're single, you can probably qualify for medicaid, which is government funded. If you work a lot, doesn't your work offer insurance? You can also look up an insurance broker. Basically, you need to choose coverage for emergencies, for doctors visits, and a bunch of other stuff. You may or may not be able to get prescription coverage. Your monthly premium goes down when you raise your deductible, or the amount you pay every time you go to the doctor or emergency room.

can anyone names some good health insurance for a young adult/full time student in fl ?

i need one that doesn't cost a lot of money. since I don't know anything about health insurance, some examples would help a lot thanks
--------------------
I have blue cross/ blue shield. I went with a super high deductible plan since I just wanted in case something catastrophic happened. I only pay about $1,000 a year and the deductible is 3,500. You have to make sure either you or someone like your parents have that deductible in a safe savings accounts. The plans that you pay 20 bucks for doctors visits are outrageously expensive. Like 5 grand a year. Note: If you are a full time student - I believe your parents can put you in their work plan. /

I need Health Insurance with preexisting conditions?

Is there any insurance that will cover preexisting conditions? It's been 90 days since I've had insurance.

Well you chances are slim to say the least. I offer a health discount program, not insurance. If you're interested, let me know. Hope this helps, Trhonda

Is is a good idea to carry health insurance to cover a paycheck while 'one's' laid off?

My bank carries an insurance coverage-$30.20mo.,in case my husband's laid off from accident.

First, that type of insurance is not health insurance. Second, it is also a very good deal.

About how many nations have national health insurance and in how many of them?

are the people clamoring for an American-style system? After all, 'the proof of the pudding is in the eating'.
--------------------
I'm from Canada and no....no one person in Canada wants a privatized health care system, other than a few businessmen who may profit from such a change, but we believe it to be a basic fundamental right that all Canadians have universal health care. Which means I don't pay for insurance I'm covered anywhere in Canada. and in times of sickness I don't worry about financial. As well I believe that most European nations have a government funded health care systems, as well as Australia, Cuba, and countless others. I believe the US health care is really a notch or two down from most of the industrial world...get with the times USA...look after your peeps. I have family who vacation the winters in Arizona, and they will not even go shopping in the states without travel insurance due to the potential cost if they were to ever get sick or hurt. Hell when there in Arizona the go to Mexico for there prescriptions and dental work...kinda sad if you ask me.

About health insurance at university?

I have a network health insurance and my school rejected the insurance. I have to get their recommended health insurance blue shield cross. Is there anyway that I can have my network health insurance cover part of the bill?
--------------------
Yes, you can do that but you have to ask them directly about it as they know the best procedure. Here is a source where you can find more advice: http://www.myhealth-forum.com/

What do you think of health care insurance that covers 90% of a hospital stay?

It offers a $500 family deductible, after that, 90% of a hospital stay, $20 for a Primary Care office visit, and $30 for a specialist visit. The insurance company is Aetna. This is their Core PPO plan.
--------------------
I don't like it. You could end up with a really big hospital bill since they add up quickly. The rest is pretty standard.

When you have a baby, the child is covered under the mother's health insurance for 30 days following birth...?

Is the child covered under the father's health insurance for 30 days as well? My husband and I have 2 different health insurance providers and I have a 35% coinsurance with my (I am the mother) insurance. I am now getting thousands of dollars of medical bills for the delivery of my child. I know I am responsible for my hospital stay, but I have a $4000 bill for my daughter's. Can I submit that to my husband's insurance?
--------------------
Not exactly true, for either of those. You have 30 days from the date the baby is born, to ADD that child, to mom's coverage, or dad's coverage. IF you add the baby, the baby is covered retroactive, from the date of birth. SOME state medicaid programs - welfare health insurance - WILL automatically cover the baby under mother's welfare health insurance, for the first 30 days, even if baby never gets added. IF the baby gets added to both mom's private insurance, and dad's private insurance, the "birthday rule" applies, as to whose coverage is primary - whoever has the first birthday, during the year, is primary. BUT, if dad does add baby, and you submit the bill, his coverages apply to the TOTAL AMOUNT, not just the part you have to pay. So, if dad also has a 35% coinsurance, then his insurance pays NOTHING, because yours already picked up 65% of the bill. If his has a 30% coinsurance, then his pays the difference - 5% of the TOTAL, not 65% of the BALANCE.

Does Access health choice insurance cover a visit to the dermatologist?

I need to see the dermatologist for some skin irritation around my eyes, will my insurance cover this and if so do I need a referral? Thanks :)
--------------------
Call them. Every provider is different. If you are on an HMO you will probably need a referral to the derm from your primary care doctor. If you are on a PPO or something, then probably not.

Why doesn't the military buy our troops private health insurance?

Instead of forcing them to use the military's socialized medical system. Don't our troops deserve better?
--------------------
You cannot compare the military medical system to private systems or to government run health care for the public. Military doctors and nurses are there voluntarily specifically to treat military personnel and their families. They have virtually unlimited resources to treat so their only limiting factor is hours they can work in a day. They have limited case loads and receive officer's pay (all doctors are officers and usually enter at Captain or better or are rapidly promoted). Being there voluntarily makes a huge difference in their attitude and morale; something they will not have when forced to become government bureaucrats.

It depends on the insurance. You'll need to either look it up in your insurance handbook or call your insurance company. All the best.

Health insurance, is it better to deal direct or go through something like eHealthinsurance.com???

I've been driving myself mad looking for health insurance, which I REALLY need to do. I want the best and affordable deal but struggling with the question: Do I call the insurance company direct, or should I get a policy online from the MANY companies that give you a quick quote on several different carriers??? Anyone have any suggestions? My worry is that if I go through a website vs dealing direct with let's just say Blue Cross, that I will have to pay additional fees, possibly like a broker fee or something like that. Any good advice is appreciated, or even if you can recommend a company. Yes, I know the easiest thing to do would be to just call the company or broker and ask, but I refuse to be kept on the phone by a sales person unless I have to. HELP!!!

Will the new Obama health plan require all working people to get health insurance through their work even if?

they can't afford it?
--------------------
It will require you to purchase a plan but not necessarily through your work. There will be a subsidy, in the form of a tax credit, if you make less than 400% of the federal poverty level. A tax credit subsidy means you must first purchase and pay for the policy and when you file your taxes each year you'll get a credit for a portion of the premiums. If you make less than 133% of the federal poverty level you will automatically be placed on Medicaid.

As a student, can health insurance skip semesters?

i am 20 years old, a student, and on my parents' health insurance plan. i am switching programs and i've completed all the pre-reqs for the new program, but it does not start until the fall semester so i have no classes that i need to take for the spring unless i somehow fail one of my classes this semester. i would prefer to not take classes just for the sake of keeping the health insurance going. can i remove myself from the policy for the spring semester due to not being a full time student and then be re-added in the fall when i become a full time student again?
--------------------
Yes. You can. My brother did that. He flunked out of school and got a job. Then when he was ready to go back to school he got back on my mom's insurance.

Why should an employer be obligated to provide health insurance to employees? This hurts business.?

wouldn't we be better off buying it on our own like auto insurance? i've never expected my job to provide me auto insurance.
--------------------
Yeah, word! I hope it isn't too late and we can get a real healthcare revolution where we Americans prove that the free markets CAN prevail. If they would only allow health insurance to be treated like auto insurance we could fix this mess but no way do the professional power mongers and people who have been touting how great it is in socialist systems want to allow that to happen. I think that if there were insurance companies that gave Americans actual incentives to stay healthy... now that would be great for America. If there were companies that say gave massive discounts to people for losing weight, working out, having stamina and training... you're darn right that would motivate people to take care of themselves. I know that if I was getting paid, basically, to be healthy... I would probably be working out right now instead of laying in bed typing online. Hahahahaha... seriously. Right now the only way to get a return from your insurance is to get sick or hurt. Insurance companies should be allowed to give people a return for losing weight or working out but they can't do that now. At least not where I live.

How many of you cant afford health insurance? If not why not and how long have you been unable to afford it?

Could you afford it if you cut out frivolous expenses?
--------------------
I pay $758/month for an HMO. That is one bill that ALWAYS gets paid. Most of the uninsured are either illegal aliens or they CHOOSE not to have coverage because they want to spend THEIR money on other things. It's called choice and that's what Obama-care is trying to eliminate.

How to get Insurance when single and has bad health record..........?

My job doesn't offer insurance and I am not able to work a full time job to recieve insurance. My health history is quit big but I don't have any major problems that I am aware of...... I am trying to get some help and can't seem to find any since I am being seen by a Doctor and because of my health problems... Does anyone know any programs in the SLC, Utah area? Thanks for your help!

You are what Insurance Companies describe as "high risk" or "un-insurable". There may be some out there that will cover you but the premiums may be exorbitant, depending on your medical history, current situation, and future outlook. Contact the United Way, Salvation Army, the Church of the Latter Day Saints (Mormon), or similar social services agency for guidance. Good luck.
