If you could afford comprehensive private health insurance, would you take it?

Or say if you already have it. Thanks!

I already have it, so it is a non issue.

I'm about to be declined for health insurance--do I have any legal rights to see what they have on me?

The agent informed me underwriting was going to deny my application, no reason given. She said people with my kinds of health problems usually got stuck with exclusions on covering certain pre-existing conditions but weren't totally denied. Do I have any consumer rights like I supposedly do with a credit bureau to see if there are errors, or has the insurance industry bought Congress so thoroughly they can do anything they please and keep everything secret?
--------------------
Yes, you have the right to find out why they denied you. Much like a credit report insurance companies use and report to the MIB (medical information bureau). The agent should have told you this, but they cannot disclose to the agent why due to the HIPAA laws. Write to the company, and they will provide your doctor the reason in some states. Some states they will send you a letter automatically. Then talk to your doctor as to what is in your medical records. Very often there is an error, someone else's records in your file, or a diagnosis that was unfounded and never reported as a non diagnosis. What type of insurance did you apply for. There are many companies that can offer you coverage that do not have pre-existing clauses as long as you are an average risk. Insurance agents are not happy with the HIPAA laws either, it is for clients protection but it ties our hands and helping our clients. Let me know if you need help locating this information. Susan

Looking Into Live Transfer Health Insurance Leads?

I am a licensed agent in California and have use live transfer health insurance leads through Prospect Zone. I was referred to a company called www.healthleadsnow.com who has a different method of producing live transfer health insurance leads. Does anyone have any experience with www.healthleadsnow.com? They seem very reasonable for the exclusive lead.
--------------------
Did your experience with Prospect Zone suck as bad as mine did? I'm also here in Cali and I couldn't be more disappointed with some of these so called "qualified" live transfers sources. Be wary - of all of them. It may seem ludicrous, but "shared" leads may very well be your best bet. Here's why: You're getting A LOT of tire kickers when you go with "exclusive" or "Live Transfer" leads. Take it from someone who has dropped big bills on many different lead types. Most people who transfer to you are just starting to look and the simple fact is that 50% of apps are completed after the fourth week of initial contact. Shared leads are always cheaper and usually older. In my humble opinion, older is better. Older leads are people who have finally gotten sick of looking around and they're ready to go. Besides, you're only sharing with an average of 2-3 other agents anyway. Be personable, be human - believe me you'll stand out and you'll clean up!!!

After the Health Care Reform conference yesterday, I have to ask: Do You Have Health Insurance?

Some of the posts I read yesterday, really tugged at my heart.
--------------------
no i don't. would like some. guess i'm too lazy like the Republicans say. even though i work and pay taxes. i just don't have the $60 a week to pay for it because i needed a car and a cellphone to work. I'm sure they will tell me my comcast and A/C is living above my means. or is it the dinner that I'm supposed to skip. it's tough when rent is 600 a month plus bills. insurance is $200 because of one ticket i got two years ago. no insurance companies aren't evil they are just greedy.

Does anyone recomend a short-term health insurance plan company?

I'm looking for a monthly premium of about $300 for a healthy family of four with a reasonable deductible.
--------------------
I have links to six different companies on my site. I DON'T recommend short term when there is no 'regular' coverage forthcoming. Short-term should only fill a gap. So, use it when you get a new job and coverage doesn't start for ~90 days or when you're applying for a regular plan and just waiting for it to go through. Also, DON'T get a short term plan after you lose your job 'anticipating' you're going to find a job and one with coverage. A common mistake that people make anyway is putting the whole family on a group plan when the employer is only covering the employee. In that case you'd buy coverage for the rest of the family on your own since it'd be cheaper.

Is there a way to get health insurance quotes?

without being grilled for lots of PRIVATE information??
--------------------
I have a quoting tool that I use that doesn't require personal information. I'd provide you a direct link, but Yahoo Answers is not fond of that. Most of the ones requiring tons of info are just selling the info.

I have been diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer. I do not have health insurance. Will I be able to get insurance?

I recently been diagnosed with Stage 2 Thyroid Cancer. I have been advised to have my Thyroid removed. I was laid off from my job in Oct 2008 and have no insurance or job. What are my chances of getting coverage of the surgery since this now a pre-existing condition (it has been diagnosed as cancer)? I have some money saved up but nowhere close to the cost of the surgery. Should I just consider Medicaid or move to Canada? Thanks...
--------------------
Try your local university hospital. They offer lots of programs for cancer victims with no insurance. My husband dealt with stage 2 thyroid cancer last year and thank goodness it is one of the easiest to go through. Once your thyroid has been removed you will be put on a thyroid medicine, probably levothyroxine. You will be fine as long as you get moving on getting it removed. Good luck!

how does health insurance work in this aspect? is it more expensive for a company to insure a family of 4 than

a family of 3? does the cost go up per insured or is there just family coverage and individual?
--------------------
Employee only Employee and spouse Employee and child (you and all of your children) Employee and family (you, spouse and all of your children) It doesn't matter if you have 1 child or 6. The price is still the same. (Anthem)

if you are no longer living with your parents and you have little money and no available health insurance?

also you need a medical attention. What services are available to you? Where do you get them?
--------------------
You should be able to go to your local hospital and sign up for "indigent care". Ask at the front desk. they will tell you where to go. This is for people with low or no income. All you will need to show is your last few check stubs, but they will tell you all that when you go.

I need health insurance for a child not legally mine, I live in Florida. I have to buy her her own any ideas?

Her mother and I are not married, together for ten years so far and likely for ever, I hope one of you found something that works and would pass on the tip. Do not make this about marriage, I am trying to help the child since her birth dad won't.
--------------------
Her mother needs to take her birth dad to court, until then she could probably go to your local dfcs office and apply for medicaid. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Can anybody recommend a good HEALTH insurance company? We can't afford our employer's plans...?

We just got out of the military and no longer have tri-care benefits. Our employers charge well over $500 per month for a healthy family of 3 (2 20 somethings and a 1 year old). Unfortunately, we can't afford anywhere close to that. We can't continue to go without medical insurance. Our son will need vaccinated next month, and I worry how to pay for our health should anything happen to any of us. We can't afford high deductables or outrageous copayments. Any hope for us? Our income bracket is approximately $35,000 in the state of Colorado. Any suggestions?
--------------------
You'll want to visit a local independent agent. This person knows the market in your area and can find a policy to fit your budget. Don't be afraid of a higher deductible. With most individual policies the deductible normally come into play when you go into the hospital. You have the doctor visits and well baby care without having to first pay the deductible; you'll just pay the co-pay. Be very wary of medical discount cards. They are not regulated by the Department of Insurance nor do the people that sell them need to be licensed. This means you have little recourse when you have problems with the plan. If you are tempted by the low price and claims of "save up to 80%" be aware that very few doctors actually take these cards. It does you little good if you have to drive 4 hours to find a doctor that will accept the card. Montana couldn't find any doctors in the whole state that actually took the card and only one dentist who was on probation for unlawful activities so they banned the sale of the card and fined the company. See this link http://www.insurancejournal.com/news/wes… for more information. Many other states are starting to ban these cards as well. Before signing up with any discount plan get a list of doctors. If they won't give you a list consider it to be a scam. Call the doctors on the list to make sure they're still taking the card (many don't even know that they're listed as a provider) and that they're accepting new patients.

health insurance coverage to one but not the other?

My son was notified that he is no longer eligible for health insurance at his job at 64 hrs per pay period.his friend how ever working same amount of hours, is recieving insurance, no problem. This cant possibly be legal.Twin cities area.Any one have any idea what we can do about this?
--------------------
If they both work at the same company AND are in the same job class (i.e. one isn't temporary or contractual and the other permanent), then this company's action seems discriminatory. He should contact his state's department of labor to request assistance. If he and his co-worker are in different job classes, this is not considered discriminatory, pursuant to ERISA, as long as the group policy's "Eligibility" section discloses the employee class coverage issue. However, if they work for different employers, this is permitted. Each employer is able to elect (or decline) coverage for part-time employees. The fact that one employer elected and the other did not isn't unlawful. He may also consider contacting his state's insurance commissioner's office in writing to request an investigation as to whether or not the termination of his insurance is lawful. While the insurance commissioner doesn't have jurisdiction over his employer's actions, the insurer's actions are regulated at the state level (as long as the policy is fully insured). I hope this helps.

What if this is revealed? I don't want to loose my coverage because of their poor decisions.

California has had Tort Reform for over 10 years. What impact has this had on Health Insurance prices?

What impact has it had on medical malpractice insurance rates?
--------------------
Nearly zero. The fact is that medical malpractice lawsuits make up 5% of the total medical costs in the USA. Some of these malpractice lawsuits are "frivolous," but surely not all of them. We can say then that "frivolous lawsuits" make up less than 5% of the total cost of healthcare in the United States.

The reason they don't is because "It is not the Obama way." For the answerer above (Ed) who questions your degree - there are lots of us who have the degrees and the insurance we deserve as part of our hard work.

Dr bill and health insurance deductible?

My deductible is 300.00 I went to the hospital and my bill is 1500.00 my insurance says they pay 80% after the 300 deducitble. So will they pay 80 % of 1200. I am a little confused. Thanks.
--------------------
You are correct. In this case your share of the charges will be the $300 deductible plus $240 (20% of $1200) coinsurance for a total of $540. Most policies have a yearly deductible, however, some will have a per occurance deductible. Also, most policy will have a maximum out of pocket amount to the coinsurance.

If my friend's mom is hospitalized for 10 days with no health insurance, how much could she owe?

She only worked a job making about $30,000 a year, and only has like $2,000 in the bank and a house worth $100,000 with a mortgage of about $90,000. Someone told me that she could come out owing about $20,000..is this true? Will she have to sell her house and file bankruptcy?? Should she write her congressman or Senaors and complain about how this illness is going to ruin her?
--------------------
The actual amount can vary widely depending on what she was in for and what kinds of treatments she had, the meds given, if she was in ICU or had surgery, and whether she had a private room or not. Her best bet is to go to the business office right away to see if she can work out a payment plan and/or get the bill reduced through programs the hospital may have in place for people without insurance. The worst thing she could do is ignore the bills that come and avoid talking to the hospital business office. They make it harder on people who do that.

Since Obama is willing to subsidize cars, why not Private health insurance?

Perfectly willing to throw billions of dollars at their Union buddies in the car market. Why not just throw 4,500 to those that don't have insurance. Even the illegals and those that make 50k/yr or more, but "choose" to be irresponsible and not have it. Problem solved. Or.. is it really not about healthcare but instead about control.?

Because owning a car isn't a human right and health care is?
