McCain wants you to deal directly with the Health Insurance Companies and calls you "Empowered"?

Will you feel empowered when you need to call Aetna's Indian call center instead of your HR manager when your kid is in the hospital and there's a problem with your coverage? Will you feel empowered when you're arguing with a $2 per day call center employee from Philipines from your hospital bed asking permission for an operation?
--------------------
And, will you feel satisfied when you're patient # 300,000,000 who has the same health care as all the other people in the U.S. who go to the Emergency Rooms when they have the sniffles and you have pneumonia, but you have to wait 15 hours to be seen by an over worked, stressed out hospital staff? Will you feel 'special' then?

Would you be willing to have some money garnished from your pay check to pay for health insurance for everyone

This is what the democratic party wants to do to YOUR paycheck
--------------------
I'm self employed, I pay $300 a month for a bare bones health care plan (and that is very low compared to most people who pay for their own). I pay extra liability insurance for my business, house, and cars in case someone gets hurt and I am liable, stuff that would just be covered by the government with universal health care. After my house and truck payment health care is my next biggest expense. I'm a successful self employed guy and still can't afford good health insurance!!!! If I get old I know all the money I've saved all my life will go to drugs and doctors, happens to everyone. So just how much of my income really goes to what universal health care would cover? I'm thinking at least 1/4 of my income!!!!!!!! And then when I'm old.....everything. So the government taxes me a bit more and I no longer have to pay 1/4 of my income into a profit making system that will only cover a part of my medical expenses. Either way sucks, I hate the idea of more taxes and more government, but the health care racket we have right now is awful, we are getting fleeced by that industry, everyone admits that. Here is the bad news. The health care industry owns the top candidates and universal health care is never going to happen. Clinton already had a mandate for it when he was elected and at the peak of his popularity and power Hillary purposely took that ball and fumbled it.

I am self-employed and spend equal time in NC and WI, where should I buy health insurance?

What is the 'individual mandate' for health insurance?

And, is it in every version of the bill?
--------------------
Individual Mandate requires every citizen to have a federally approved health care policy, like we do with car insurance. I doubt that it is in every version because there is alot of opposition to it.

Can I use my health insurance straight away?

I am only interested in the Basics extras cover which covers general dental. It says on this particular cover that there is no waiting period, I have to get fillings on Monday so if I join today does that mean I can claim for Monday?
--------------------
Im not sure but as far as I know here in Ireland there is a six month period. Basically when we sign up, we are not actually covered for 6 months. So we cannot sign up and claim straight away. Maybe someone can clarify or confirm this. Your best bet would be to call and check, without giving away specifics.

How can Obama promise health insurance (social) when America is broke & in debt?

I'm just wondering how Obama can promise this. America is HORRIBLY broke.
--------------------
You know the economy was quite different when BOTH of the candidates were forming their economic plans. Of course there will have to be some changes made to reflect the current economy after a plan of recovery is made.

If I enroll in 9 credit hours in the fall semester will I still be covered under my parents health insurance?

I am also taking 8 credit hours in the Spring and Summer semesters could I combine them if blue cross blue shield asks for verification? I'm 19 if it helps. Thank you.
--------------------
You need to be full time student each semester that means 12 credits. If blue cross checks you out after a claim they will not pay. Stay healthy

For health benefits/insurance purposes, what are the ways you can prove someone is your domestic partner?

I know that some places make sure you have lived together for a period of time, but are there other ways that you can show that they are your partner for the benefits/insurance?
--------------------
To get my partner and our children on my insurance we had to provide the insurance company with a copy of our mortgage, and joint bank accounts, and copies of birth certificates for our children as well as have a signed and notarized affidavit that was provided by the insurance company. L

how are health insurance markets different from markets for other goods and services?

my mom is writing a report on this.
--------------------
One of the ways that health insurance markets are different from other markets is the way in which the cost of health insurance is so closely tied to the cost of health care - and more importantly the types of things that affect the cost of health care. One of the biggest contributors to the increasing cost of medical care is that no one knows how much anything costs and the majority of people that get medical care are not paying for the care (their insurance company is). In 1998 the normal cost of laser surgery was about $2200 per eye. Now it's close to $1350. It's no coincidence that this procedure is rarely covered by health insurance. Laser eye surgery is one of few health procedures sold in a free market with price advertising and consumer-driven purchases. One of the ways that people are trying to keep costs down is with Health Savings Accounts (HSA's). Here is more information on HSA's:

How much do you pay for health care insurance per month?

My company is about too drop my Blue Cross medical health care coverage. I am retired. I must now purchase health care if I can afford it. How much might I expect to pay for basic coverage on a monthly basis, or every three months?
--------------------
I used to have Blue Cross Blue Shield through my dad's work but when he died they took it away. Now I'm in college with no insurance. My mom is paying 550 (Humena I believe) a month for both herself and my little brother and she has almost no coverage. It really sucks.

Has anyone had to go through so much to have bariatric surgery due to their health insurance requirements?

Hello! I want to have barriatric surgery. OK not WANT but NEED. My doctor has advised that I definitely have it. But, my health insurance, MVP says that I have to go to a clinic, and lose 10% of my weight on my own first?! This to me seems ridiculous being that this is why people have the surgery to begin with, because we CANT on our own. Aside from that I have to see 3 doctors, a therapist, get letters written, etc! Has anyone else successfully gone through all of this? If so, how long did it take? Was it worth it? Do you have any advice? THANK YOU! I am totally postponing even begining faxing the papers into this clinic which is the 1st step because I forsee NEVER seeing a light @ the end of the tunnel. This seems impossible and I feel nearly hopeless yet my dr. said I have to?! I mean... help?? :( STUPID health insurance!!!!! :|
--------------------
This is my experience: I need to write down all the diet I tray. Go to a neumology do the sleep study and other test. Go to a cardiologist and do a stress test and ecocardiogram and electrocardiogram. Go to a nutrition's. Go to a speech with a medical educator. Go to a psychiatric evaluation. Go to and interns and do a completed blood work. I had the operation 6 month ago lose 83 lbs feel fine and I medicine free for diabetes and high blood pressure. I wait 5 month between the operation is approved and the surgery. Is a risky operation is better to be prepared also all you describe is part of the usual medical protocol for the operation. There are some over the counter products that can help. Low cost clinics (like Planned Parenthood) can also provide affordable services. That's what they're there for!

Why is health insurance so much more of an important issue than it was a year or two ago?

Is it because Obama made it in to one?

Can someone explain my health insurance options?

I have a whole book explaining these, but I need a simple answer. What is the difference between HMO, HRA, and HDHP? I've always gone with a HMO, but HRA is much less per month. Thanks!
--------------------
If it were that simple you wouldn't need a whole book with information. Any information you get here will be incomplete and won't tell the whole story. HMO is a type of policy and is an acronym for how it works. HRA and HDHP are not types of policies but stand for Health Reimbursement Accout and High Deductible Health Plan, and these need an underlying policy. The HRA and HDHP are usually PPO (which is another type of policy) but on rare occasions can be an HMO. Which is better will depend on the benefits of the policy, your particular situation, and the total cost for premium and use of the policy.

Do i have to be notified if my health insurance gets canceled 30 days prior?

its through my work and i brought my daughter to the doctors today and they said you and your daughter no longer have insurance
--------------------
No, because technically, it's not YOUR policy - it's your employer's. And I'd bet dollars to donuts, your employer WAS notified, prior to cancellation. Your beef, is with your employer. Better talk to them, about IF coverage is getting reinstated, and if not, making sure they stop taking money from your paycheck to cover it, AND, forwarding a copy of the bill from the doctor, to your employer - legally, they're on the hook for whatever the insurance company would have paid. Also, you need to start looking for a job. When the benefits payment doesn't get made, payroll will be the NEXT bill not getting paid.

I already have good health insurance. Why do I need a government program?

Its great to know that not only will my existing coverage be tinkered with, But I'll also be paying for someone elses coverage. Pitiful.
--------------------
I agree with the point you are making. On the other hand, don't you think breaking up the private club health care/insurance corporations have created by owning the committee members, and instead allowing more free market (not government option) competition, would be even more cost effective.

Can illegal immigrants get health insurance not provided by the government?

Like say blue shield or others.
--------------------
It will be tough. I would encourage a visit to this site: www.healthsavings.ourperfectcard.com I signed up online over 5 years ago now and they have saved me thousands on all services. Dental, Medical, Vision, Rx..etc. There is no background check and S.S. # is NOT required. They even had my very affordable plan active in 2 hours and was able to use it the very same day. hope this helps.

New job, but employer doesn't contribute to group health insurance?

I am going for a second interview for a local, growing company. I was told (during the first interview) that the company offers a group health insurance plan, but the employer doesn't contribute to it. What does this mean? I am used to working for bigger companies and I'm not used to benefits-lingo. I am thinking I'll be paying a lot more than usual...
--------------------
It means that although you're part of a group plan, and get group benefit rates on premiums (much better than individual or direct rates) you still have to pay the entire premium yourself. The employer doesn't pick up any portion of the tab. Unfortunately, due to the high cost of benefits and the tighter economy, many employers have stopped offering benefits. Of the ones that still do offer it, many have cut back on their contribution. Some may pay 10% or even half, but your's contibutes nothing.

Why do the Middle class workers with no health insurance want to be on welfare?

Are they middle class or poor class? Why do they want Obama-care?
--------------------
Thanks to GW Bush, what used to be called poor, is the new middle class. Everyone is poor now. Besides that obvious correction, are you talking about health care reform or welfare. You aren't clear.
