Tomorrow is the deadline to hand in the health papers and I was wondering if I went to a hospital here in New York would my health insurance cover me?!

You should ask your insurance broker. If they can't find you another company then they should be able to help you sign up for your state's high risk pool (if it exists).

Any expert advice on one person health insurance for the self-employed?

I have no idea where to start looking for health insurance for the self-employed. Any advice??
--------------------
I think you already know that purchasing health insurance is an important project. You need a trusted adviser to help you through the process so that you understand what you are purchasing. Some suggest going on line to get a quote but there is so much more to the decision than price. You need to determine how much you will participate in sharing the cost of your health care. This will determine the cost of your health insurance. If you choose a plan that covers everything i.e. doctors office visits, prescription drugs, preventative health benefits, maternity coverage, low deductibles and low copays your monthly premiums will be significant. On the other hand if you are young and healthy and rarely use the health care system you can choose a plan that covers the major health catastrophe your premiums will be relatively low. Check with the agent that writes your home, auto or business insurance he/she can provide you valuable advice that takes into account your budget and health situation. If they don't handle health insurance they could refer you to a trusted colleague. If you want to use the Internet use it to educate yourself but use an agent to purchase the coverage.

A health economist established a study to assess utilization of emergency medical care and health insurance.?

A health economist established a study to assess utilization of emergency medical care and health insurance. These data have been compiled: 4% of all adults have utilized emergency medical care in the last 12 months. For the pool of patients who utilized emergency care, 80% had health insurance. While for a random sample of persons who never utilized emergency medical care, 50% had health insurance. An adult, selected to be a participant in this study, has medical insurance. What is the probability this individual will utilize emergency medical care in the next 12 months?

What is a good health insurance?

I want to get insurance for me and my husband. I need an insurance that offer health dental and vision benefits. I have seen alot of insurances, but i want an insurance that gives me good benefits, not just discounts. Can someone please give me opinions about your insurance and what benefits they provide you?
--------------------
For the most part you will want to make sure you purchase a major medical health insurance plan with comprehensive coverage for prescriptions and doctors visits. The plan should not have any procedure limits or annual limits on care and it should have a lifetime maximum coverage limit of at least $3,000,000. Choose a plan from a reputable company like United Healthcare, BCBS, Aetna, Humana, etc. Steer clear of discount cards and other scams. Here is some more information on finding the best health insurance plan:

Why do I need health insurance?

What happens if you need an operation and you dont have health insurance? Do I really need it? Wont medicare pay? I work and pay my medicare levy. Our insurance is $140 a month for family cover. Australian's to answer please.
--------------------
For all you americans, Medicare is not the equivalent of your Medicaid or whatever it is you have in the USA. In Australia, anyone, no matter how rich or poor, has the right to be treated as a public patient at public hospital, so stop acting like this person is being a scab for asking this question, because that simply isn't the case. Private health insurance is mainly for people who want to be treated as private patients. You can be treated as a private patient if you don't have insurance, but you'll pay around $1000 a day just for the bed, then there's the cost of surgeons (around $800 an hour) plus a heap of other expenses... so generally people who want to be treated privately have insurance. If you're admitted to hospital as a public patient, you get stuck with the first surgeon available. If you're a private patient and the surgery isn't a matter of life or death, you can choose your own surgeon. Waiting times for most "non urgent" public surgeries are currently around 2 years. Waiting times are MUCH shorter for private patients. If you're employed and you need to spend a while in hospital as a public patient, you may see some additional debts in your tax return. ...but if don't use the health system at all and you earn over $50,000 and don't have private insurance, you'll also get stung at tax time! If you have a health care card, Medicare covers all cost. If you'd like to keep your insurance, but think you're paying too much, head on over to http://www.iselect.com.au/ to see if you can get yourself a better deal on insurance.

I was in a car accident and may go to physiotherapy will it effect my health insurance?

Im Canadian and was in a car accident and may need some tratments for whiplash. Im moving to the US before the end of the year. Im wondering if I make the claim for the treatments if it will effect my health insurance when I apply for it in the US...is it like car insurance (i.e. once you get in an accident your payments get higher)
--------------------
definantly ask your insurance agent -there may be a cap. the good news is that your auto insurance will recover any costs for you or the car from the other agent & most likely you paid for medical thru your auto policy. if you don't treat the injury, it will just get worse.

Can health insurance premiums be taken out of your gross income?

My husbands employer has taken his insurance premiuns out of his gross income which has made his gross income lower.
--------------------
There is nothing improper about an employer deducting health insurance premiums out of ones gross income. However, when that happens you've already seen a "tax benefit" through the lower income on your Form 1040. DO NOT include in your medical and dental expenses on Schedule A any insurance premiums paid by an employer-sponsored health plan unless the premiums are included in box 1 of his W-2. Also, DO NOT include on Schedule A any other medical/dental expenses paid by the plan unless the amt paid is included in box 1 of the W-2. You can't have it deducted from gross AND taken as an itemized ded or the IRS will reject the deduction.

Hi, I want to move to France, what to know if it's true health insurance is free for residents? I have a special needed child severly hadicap i want the best health care for him and i hear it's in frances, how true is this?
--------------------
Best health care is relative to what you need it for. The European Health Consumer Index report is probably the best place to compare the health systems of different countries and see what they are good and bad at. They rank the Netherlands first overall for 2009, followed by Austria, with France in 8th place. Sweden excels at quality and results of treatment in Europe, but falls behind due to waiting times (like most Nordic countries). http://www.healthpowerhouse.com/media/Ra… Health care is very low cost for Europeans in their own countries (not free, as you pay taxes towards it and some costs). As far as I can tell by your other questions though, it looks like you are American? Unless you have citizenship with a European country (specifically EU for places like France), you can't just move over and have access to the health system. You need a valid work/residence permit, which is very difficult to get. Within the EU, you normally need company sponsorship to get a work permit. This requires the company to show that the job was advertised, and no local or EU applicants could fulfill the job duties. This limits permits to skilled jobs that have a lack of workers in the EU (like healthcare and engineering) or to people highly trained and specialised in their field. Permits aren't even allowed for unskilled work or general labor. You generally need to be proficient in the local language, as you are competing against native speakers who will always be hired over a non-speaker with similar skills. Some people manage to get a transfer through the company they work for in their home country, but most did this when the economy in Europe was better and the permits were issued a little more freely. Now, with such high unemployment in Europe, it's even harder to move over. If you do have citizenship with an EU country, you can move for a few months to look for work, but you'll likely still need to speak the local language to actually find it. Once you have a job and are registered as a resident, you gain access to the medical system.

Now that Health Insurance has been deemed mandatory ?

Now that Health Insurance has been deemed mandatory by President Obama, what is the next Freedom of Choice that you will lose under President Obama ?
--------------------
It is only mandatory for us. It exempted Congress and their staff. The next part of the plan, to Socialize us by bankrupting us, will be Amnesty for illegal aliens. Once you give some sort of citizenship to these people who violated our law in coming here, they will also be placed under this health care plan to increase the cost by billions, as well as Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid as well. I do not know if enough people will wake up and realize what this President is doing, soon enough, to save our country. And what is worse, he has taken over the Democrat party. There are only a handful of Democrats left who do not believe as he does. It is sad to say, but we probably do need a third party.

Most affordable Health Insurance provider for my employees?

I am looking for an affordable Health Insurance Company for my employees. I have 7 employees w/families and no coverage to offer because the prices are outrageous. My compnay is Incorporated, if that factors in. I have already used the sales companies that do this research for me, but I am not satisfied with the results...plus they call every 2 seconds with high quotes.
--------------------
The National Associated for the Self-Employed (see link below) has some good information. They have a health care Web site with some good information as well (also below). Also, some states have group-purchasing pools for small business and the self-employed. Getting insurance through a purchasing pool typically means that your employers would not have to all be part of the same health plan, which could be good for morale. The downside is that purchasing pools are relatively new and it's unclear how much savings they really offer. Depending on the kind of business you're in, there may be a trade association you can join and get group health insurance through them. Some states have looser restrictions on health insurance through trade associations, meaning that you would pay less for insurance and get more coverage options. I've included a link below to state insurance departments – it might be a good idea to contact them or your local chamber of commerce to see if they have any ideas. You also might want to check out this Web site's (link below), state guides to small business insurance. It's simple but it might give you some ideas. Oh, one last link (below). It's to a recent Consumer Reports article about association health insurance scams. After you've done some researching, try visiting MostChoice.com. I know you've said you've tried sales companies to help you, but MostChoice has a no-hassle way to shop for insurance. You fill out a short form, they send you information on health plans available in your state, and local state-licensed insurance agents contact you within 48 hours to talk about what you're company needs in a group health plan. It's free and you're not required to buy anything from the agents who contact you. Just wait until one of them delivers an insurance solution that makes sense for you and your company. And be up front; let them know you've done the research. It sounds like you know what you want to pay. Just write down what you and your employees want in a health plan and present it to the insurance agents. Let them do the heavy lifting. You can visit MostChoice here: http://www.mostchoice.com/health-insuran… Hope this helps, Barnes @ MostChoice.

will new health insurance cover me?

I am planning on visiting a gynecologist soon and was planning on paying cash when i was told the visit would cost 285 dollars. So today i decided to sign up for health insurance so i could pay less at the visit. If i go to the gynecologist on april 9th with the approved health insurance from Aetna will they cover me? I am not pregnant I just have a concern about my menstrual cycle.
--------------------
If you don't disclose the menstrual problems on your application, they will likely deny coverage for a preexisting condition. If you do, they'll deny coverage for an undiagnosed preexisting condition. Ask the gyne office what the cash discount is. I'd bet it's a whole lot less than $285.

Health insurance in Toronto? How does it work?

I am new in Toronto and i have no idea how does 'health insurance' in toronto work. Like how much money will i have to pay every month and i am looking for the one which has the eyeglasses insurance too. and where do i get registered for that

Editing based on your clarifications: You already have OHIP, and you're looking for supplemental insurance for the other expenses. Try insurance brokers in the yellow pages, or follow the links from the Insurance Canada industry website that I provided. Make a list of what expenses you would want help with - dentistry? chiropractic and physiotherapy? glasses? hearing aids? private room in the hospital? prescription drugs? wheelchairs and accessibility renovations?, and try to estimate what you'd spend on those things in a year or five years if you were paying for them yourself. Keep that in mind when you get quotes from various insurance companies. (With this kind of insurance, you don't just pay the premiums; you'll probably also have to pay some kind of deductible each year, or there might be a maximum charge, or a certain percentage of your expenses that they would pay. Their application forms might ask you questions about your existing health conditions, so that they can decide what to charge you. Unless you have an employer paying part of the premiums for you, it is unlikely that you would save money buying supplemental health insurance. So buy it only for the really big things that you couldn't afford to pay for. -------------- leaving my first answer, as good general background: Have you lived in Ontario for more than three months? You are eligible for OHIP, the basic free health insurance program provided through the government, as soon as you've lived in the province for three months. Go through the questions on the first link to find out how to get a card. OHIP doesn't cover things like eyeglasses, dentistry, or prescription medication. Lots of private insurance companies sell *supplemental medical* insurance for those extra things. Your employer might have a plan which they would give you or let you pay for. If you're a student, your university or college probably has a supplemental medical package for students. Or if you want to buy that kind of insurance on your own rather than just paying for your glasses, dental work, and son on, you can shop around for various commercial insurance companies and pick the kinds of coverage you want.

Health Insurance for an aspiring aerial artist?

I am a fit and healthy female in my twenties with no health insurance. It didn't really bother me before, but now I am seriously considering it because I am now training to be an aerial artist. With such a physically demanding aspiration, it would seem ridiculous to not be covered. The most obvious risks would be sprains, strains, pulled muscles, etc. So the real questions would be what kind of insurance should I get, with who, how can I keep it affordable, and will they charge more because of the risks involved with what I'm doing? Thanks in advance to anyone who may be able to help :)

Can your health insurance company raise your rates after you get sick?

I've heard about pre-existing conditions and all, but what about getting seriously ill AFTER you have insurance? Let's say you're generally healthy, and already have heath insurance which you pay for yourself, at a reasonable rate. Then you get a long term illness, or get into a terrible accident, and need years of expensive care. Of course you keep your policy up to date... Can the company raise your rates by triple (or worse) if you get sick this way?
--------------------
99% of the time the answer is no they can't. Your medical bills are shared by everybody. That's why when people abuse the system it drives the cost of care up for everyone. So, the next time that you're in the emergency room bleeding and you see someone with a 'bad cough' then be angry at them. Emergency rooms are for emergencies and people that use them needlessly are abusing the system. Try this site, if you want to find your best or cheapest health insurance rates just in few minutes, http://cheap-health-insurance-rate.info Here you can get free quotes from different companies in your area, its the best way to find an affordable health insurance with a reliable company. Is it mandatory at Univerisites that you have to have health insurance to go to the school or have a dorm?

What would happen to Laura Bush if she were part of the 48 million in the US without health insurance?

When I work 40 hours a week, how come I don't deserve health insurance? Is health a human right, or a luxury for the rich?
--------------------
You are too narrowly focused, the whole point is ALL POLITICIANS have lifetime benefits paid for by the taxpayers, this is why they havn't a clue about the problem, and it's an example of a question I asked on TERM LIMITS, if it might get people who understand the plight of the ordainary citizen in this country into office wher ethey can do something about OUR problems, not just THEIR problems. Sort of like we supply their transportation, and their tax return accountants, how can they udnerstand a tax code if they don't have to file or pay someone else to do their own? Or how much finding a place to live or purchasing a car really takes to finance these days? Maybe their homes should be confiscated by local governments and handed over to developers, then they might appreciate what happens to the "little guy" in this country. I believe TERM LIMITS will, if nothing else, distribute the wealth amongst a different bunch of theives every now and then.

should I get my own health insurance?

Right now I don't have any health insurance but I'm considering paying it out of my own pocket. Is this wise?
--------------------
Health insurance is critical for protecting both your health and your wallet. The cost of even basic health care can be very expensive. The average cost of a day in a California hospital is more the $9,000. A burst appendix can cost over $45,000. A health insurance policy limits your exposure. And the cost can be less than you think. The cost depends in part on how much risk you're willing to take in the form of deductibles and co-insurance (the percent of a claim you pay before the carrier pays 100%). If you take on more of the risk, your monthly premium will be lower. Shift the risk to the carrier in the form of a lower deductible and they'll charge more. But right now you're on the hook for 100% of the cost, so a high deductible might make sense for you. In California you can research the cost of coverage at http://www.InsuranceNeighborhood.com . You can also find a local agent to help you through the jargon on their site. A local agent can help you not only find the right plan, but help you with any problems that arrive once you have the coverage. Outside of California you can find local agents through their national trade association. The site is http://www.NAHU.org. Just click on the "Customer Resources" tab and then on the "Find an Agent" link. Hope this helps.

Would the health insurance market work better if people purchased their own insurance?

Why doesn't the government give tax deductions for self-purchased insurance like it does for employer-provided plans?
--------------------
Yes, Senator McCain proposed just such a deduction. I don't know whether it would work better or not, but a couple of things that would help would be tort reform, and not having certain things mandated that you may not want. For example, in New York State, chiropractic care must be covered, yet I have no desire for such coverage, so why must I be forced to pay for it? Also, if people wouldn't use their insurance for every little doctor visit, it might also drive the cost of insurance down.
