Non-dependants in college -can I still put them on my health insurance plan?

I have two daughters who file their own taxes, which means i do not claim them as dependents. One lives at home (age 18 full time college and part time work) and the other has been away in another state for two years (age 21full time college and full time work) My question is on the new insurance plan - it states "dependents up to age 25 covered" Is there an advantage to making them dependent? What would I need to do to get them insurance coverage?
--------------------
From Blue Cross Blue Shield: My child will be going to college. Can I keep his or her coverage active? Yes, provided your group health plan has our "family continuation" (FC) or "dependent continuation" (DC) rider. Be sure to check your benefit guide or ask at work to see if your group health plan includes one of these riders. If your organization offers one of the riders, you must apply for continuation coverage before December 31st of the year your dependent turns 19. Let us know your dependent is attending college, and we will send a letter annually to verify that his or her enrollment continues. Between the ages of 19 and 25, dependents can remain covered if they are: Unmarried Related to you by blood, marriage or legal adoption Full-time students for at least five months of the year or have a gross income of less than four times the personal exemption amounts as defined by the Internal Revenue Service's current code So it looks like your 18 year old can be covered but your 21 year old cannot. The family continuation rider is pretty common but you need to check with your own health insurance carrier to determine if their rules differ from those above.

I don't have health insurance but would like opinions on what helps Your Depression?

I have found increasing exercise & sometimes drinking Coke helps me but would like input from others.
--------------------
I take generic Wellbutrin SR (150 mg) in the morning, and Lexapro (10 mg) with dinner, for depression and anxiety. I've been taking that for over two years, and it's working very well for me. If you don't have insurance for the medications, do a Google search on "prescription assistance", there are a lot of programs out there that can help with the medications.

Why do health insurance drop people?

My sister had health insurance for about a year and she went in about 7 months ago to have a colonosopy( they removed 2 small polyps) and she also took a medication for osteoporosis. A few weeks ago she got a letter from her insurnace company saying they were dropping her because of the polyps removal and of the medication used to prevent osteoporosis. Do insurance companies normally do this?
--------------------
As already mentioned it is illegal in ALL states for an insurance company to drop you because of medical problems. There has to be more to the story, either she didn't pay the bill or she lied on the application. If it is true as you wrote all she has to do is forward the letter to the state department of insurance and the insurance company will have to reinstate her and they'll be in big trouble. They will face monetary fines and possibly be forbidden to operate in that state in the future.

My husband is switching careers...we need short term health insurance for the in between period?

We'd need it for 30 days and it needs to cover pre-existing conditions. Can anyone recommend which insurance provider to look into? Thanks for your help.
--------------------
Short term health policies do not cover any pre-existing conditions. COBRA will be available if your current plan has more than 20 employees. That will be your only option to keep the conditions covered.

Will the US proposed mandatory health insurance consider setting up a Conscientious Objector program?

Can a Christian Scientist refuse Chemo for their child if they have Cancer?

This is essentially an insurance reform. No one will be forced to have health care under the proposed legislation.

What is the best/cheapest health insurance. I am very healthy and mainly need "Emergency Coverage"?

I am working as a private contractor and need coverage for the next 6- 8 months before starting new job with coverage. I am healthy and don't need any medications. I am mostly concerned about getting into an accident and huge hospital bills. Or if I get pregnant (we are waiting but sometimes things happen!) Also, my best friend is in the same situation- can we share a policy?
--------------------
When it comes to health insurance cheap and best will not be in the same sentences. You need to look up the companies that provide insurance in your area and read the fine print. It is not going to be cheap to get a good insurance for medical emergencies. In this day and age there is no reason for an unwanted or unplanned pregnancy. You would also need to get coverage for that and make sure that the little one would be covered. Some states still allow insurance companies to avoid covering pre-existing conditions and I am not sure if pregnancy is considered a pre-existing condition. How long do you have to work before you can start using insurance benefits? You may have to pay for insurance longer than you thought. Most states only allow you to share a policy if you are married, immediate family member, or a domestic parnter.

Legally are people who have medi - cal allowed to also buy their own health insurance?

Will the insurance that they buy often allow this or how does this work? Is it legal? Doctors say that medi-cal is not good enough for them so they usually want you to have good health insurance. What is good health insurance and how does it differ from medi -cal ? Insurance is insurance right? How would they bill medi - cal and the other insurance together? If you have a deductible can medi-cal cover what is not met before the deductible of the health insurance you obtain additionally?
--------------------
if you buy additional insurance that will be your primary one,and medi-cal the supplementary . is not that medical is not good enough for the Doctors the fact is medical takes sometimes 1 or 2 months to pay the bill so a lot of physicians do not like accepting it because of it. medical will not cover your deductible. and if you have money to buy you own Insurance then your medical can be discontinue or you can have an other co-pay on top of your insurance

Where can I buy the health insurance for foreign visitor who will come to visit USA for three months?

Is there any website that I can check the info?
--------------------
Any guest you have staying should purchase there travel insurance in there home country. Most insurance has restriction on the nationality of the user. I travel to the states and have found that the UK travel insurance is much better value for money than what is available in the USA. $70 for six months covers and up to $10 million dollars worth of treatment with no surcharge

What's wrong with being your Brother's Keeper,as the Bible advises? That means health insurance that covers the?

poorest of us. Paying an insurance company is the same as paying taxes, except that with the latter, you can be sure your brother will be covered and won't be treated like a charity case. Are you your Brother's Keeper, or a hypocritical Christian or other?
--------------------
Your argument is flawed, the "poorest" of us ALREADY has health care, it's called Medicaid. The people not covered are middle class that do not want to spend their own money for it, the illegal immigrants that do not contribute to the system, and the elite rich that pay cash for medical expenses. So which of those groups are you volunteering to pay for?

why are conservatives opposed to buying health insurance? dont they have care insurance LOL HAHAHA?

those two things are EXACTLY the same. if you say they arent you hate obama because he is black.

we buy or own unlike the libs that expect the govt. to provide theirs!!!

My divorce is pending can I get my spouse off my health insurance?

or have her pay some of it. She has her own now. Wisconsin Thanks
--------------------
The only laws I know tied to it are you can't keep them on your insurance if the divorce is final and that they're also eligible for COBRA after. As far as removing them, if they already have other coverage I see no reason why you can't.

My fiance and I are getting married in April, do i need to cancel the health insurance i have under my parents?

before he fills out all of the paperwork? or will it cancel out itself since im signing up for a new one?
--------------------
Just because he is filling out paperwork doesn't mean that you are covered yet! You will NOT be covered until you are officially married. Either your mom or dad (whomever has the health insurance for the family) will need to fill out paperwork at their employer to take you off of their policy. Again, there is no need to do this until you are actually married.

Anyone have any great health insurance policies?

I need a family plan, am relatively healthy but need prescriptions.
--------------------
The idea of a "Great" plan will differ with every person you like, I can give you some ideas on what is available and I hope this helps. First let me start by sayiing the fact that you need prescriptions may or may not affect you qualifying for a plan, please consult with a qualified Health Insurance Agent in your area, or a Health Insurance Company in your state. Plans and what is available in the USA: PPO (Preferred Provider Organization) This type of plan is most popular, whereas you can visit physicians and medical professionals, hospitals ET that are within the network and receive services at pre-negotiated rates. This type of plan will offer Deductibles, Co-Insurance, Co-pays. You will only pay for services if needed, or as you go along. The advantage with a PPO is that they allow you to visit thousands of different doctors, the Disadvantage is that you must pay deductibles, co-insurance, copays- which can cost you thousands if you actually use the plan. HMO (health maintence organization) with this type of plan you pre-pay for medical needs. You will pick one physician as your primary care physician and see her/him for all your medical needs. They include Co-pays, and some now include deductibles for hospitalization. Advantages, excellent for someone who wants to use lots of services -little or no out of pocket costs for medical services. Disadvantages, Primary care physicians can be very busy and you will be locked in, referrals must come from the primary care physician. HSA (Health SAvings Accounts) these are the newest type of plans, called "Consumer Driven Healthcare" perfect for anyone self employed and healthy. They have High Deductibles, the consumer will pay for all medical needs up to deductible, and can open a HSA account at a financial institution in order to save money (fed. tax free)!! to pay toward his/her deductible. I personally have this type of plan, these are the fastest growing types of plans in USA. Advantages, Low premiums, Tax savings are wonderful, long term savings can benefit your retirement account. Disadvantages, with no HSA account funded the consumer could pay a high deductible for medical needs.

Health Insurance for Recent College Grad?

I just graduated from college, and my school health insurance has expired. I'm not working, and back to live with my parents. My mom refuses to add me to her insurance plan (Aetna). She is saying that I'm over 21, that's why she can't add me, but my dad who's 65, and also working, and is eligible for Medicare, is on her plan, along with my 13 year old brother. What can I do to make her add me? I really need health insurance.
--------------------
First you need to understand it's not your mom that is refusing, it's the health insurance plan. Every health insurance plan has rules as to what family members qualify. Spouse and children 18 and younger can be covered, but once you turn 18 you have to be in college FT for it to cover you and in most cases if your in college FT it will only cover you to the age of 21. So since you are 21 and out of school the insurance will not cover you, even if you are living at home and have no insurance, this is just how it is otherwise everyone could be covered under a family plan forever, which would make health insurance through an employer too expensive for people to carry. Since you are an adult, and finished w/college you need to look for a job that offers benefits, in the mean time you can check out your state medicaid coverage and see if you qualify. Your not alone in this everyone who grows up and turns 18 has to find their own health insurance coverage, or if they go to college FT they can have it until they are 21, then your own. Don't mean to sound harsh but your an adult and your parents can't provide everything for you forever, even if they wanted to this is the rules of health insurance plans. So find a job w/health insurance, in the meantime see if you can enroll for medicaid (state health insurance coverage). It's tough, but this is life. Best of luck! HR Manager

me and my fiance are on the same health insurance at our work, as a domestic partner to get joint benefits.?

Is is necessary to file our income taxes as jointly. we have 2 kids together, but i have always filed head of house hold and claim both kids.
--------------------
You cannot file jointly unless you are married. Being a domestic partner is not a recognized status by the IRS. Filing as single is fine.

Without health insurance, what do you suppose pinworm treatment could cost?

Including the testing for it and all.
--------------------
If you have pinworms then at some point you'll be excreting the worms and there will be no testing necessary, believe me! Besides prescriptions, you can instead use natural herbal parasite formulas in many cases (like Herb Pharm's nasty tasting liquid drops of Black Walnut Hulls which is about $10, or the nasty-smelling Renew Life Parazyme capsules which are about $22 from a local health food store), but the Rx wouldn't be too expensive I bet. Ask the doctor or health clinic nurse to write the Rx to allow for generics and it'll probably be a lot cheaper. You may also be able to ask a pharmacist at your local drugstore if there's anything over-the-counter that would work and not require a Rx. The herbal stuff kills worms, which also means its not good for your body if you use too much for too long, so follow the directions or call the company before you start for more info. Same is true for the Rx and OTC drugs I'm sure. Don't use this stuff on kids unless you know what you're doing or have practitioner supervision, just in case. Lastly, don't use this kind of stuff unless you know you have pinworms. Being pretty sure you have them is not good enough.. PS - your pets, if you have some, may have it too and will need vet treatment which is extremely important for them. Good luck!

I don't have any health insurance, and i might have cancer. What should I do?

I have a lump above my collarbone, about the size of a walnut above my collarbone, and My doctor told me there is a one in five chance that it could be lymphoma cancer. I have an appointment on Monday with a surgeon to take a closer look at it, and give me another diagnosis. I am in my early twenties, and I was foolish enough to think that I could put off getting a health insurance plan for a little longer. Is there anyway I can still get a health insurance plan that I can afford.I make less then 1000 dollars a month. Any info would be much appreciated.

If USA is the best country in the world then how come many American don't have Health Insurance?

Also our tax rate isn't that much higher than the Europeans if any, especially for the middle-income. But at least the Europeans provide national health insurance even to the homeless. In England they don't tax food to go or clothings. So why do I hear from some of the ignorant Americans saying this is the greatest country?

The US isn't the ''best country in the world,'' it's actually turned in to a police state.

Cash business and health insurance ?

What options exist for someone who works in a strictly CASH business, isn't married and needs some kind of Health Insurance? The cost would need to under $300.00 a month. Do all these companies ask to you to provide the details of your income? Thanks for any suggestions.
--------------------
The only time health insurance is worried about your business information is when you apply for group coverage. In order to obtain group coverage you need at least two employees and you need to file a quarterly wage and tax report. If you are looking for individual coverage your cash business will not be of interest to the insurance company. You should try using yellowpages.com to search for health insurance brokers in your area. Don't call your auto and home agent they specialize in property and causality insurance. You need someone that specializes in health insurance. A Broker represents multiple carriers and can help you sort through all the different insurance companies and plan options in your state. The Health Savings Account would be something to look into.

Are you really paying your fair share for health insurance?

Do you have all the benefits and special treatment?
--------------------
I pay cash for all medical services that I actually use and I do what I can to stay healthy so I pay doctors very little because I am generally healthy. So, I guess you could say I'm uninsured. I'm seriously f*cked if I get sick and I suspect the doctors and their outrageous bills will want to take my house at that point, but I'll probably just move to another country.
