My husband is trying to add my son (his stepson) to his health insurance plan?

I already have my son on my policy from my job. My husband was trying to add my son to his family plan at the same time he added me right after we were married, but my husbands HR director wouldn't let him. Is that common? Our lawyer did go through the courts to have my husband named as a guardian of my son. Is there any reason he would not be able to have him on his family health plan as well? I am just confused
--------------------
You do not need to adopt to obtain coverage, legal guardianship is all that is needed. You should call the insurance carrier directly and explain to them what his employer said. If you tell the insurance company that other coverage will not be dropped they might not issue new coverage. Having double coverage is usually not worth the price you pay.

How much is your health insurance premium?

From the moment we became a family of 4 in 2/07 the monthly premium was $1,357.64 It is as of last pay-stub on 12/09 $1,689.98 This includes my contributions as well as those of my employer
--------------------
$1300.00 monthly and going up to $1400.00 next month. Family of 4. Some of these kids here don't see the full premium sheet when they sign up for their health insurance. They just see their costs - when, if they scrolled their eyes down a bit they'd see what families are paying. Or they are on their parents health insurance. So, when we say that we are paying $1400.00 per month they have no concept of how that could be so!

Why do conservatives think that people who can't afford health insurance should just suffer and die quietly?

Well cons? Stick to the question please. I don't want to see any smart-alec answers involving our president Barack, or other Democrats.
--------------------
Because most Conservatives, are easily manipulated sheep who vote for leaders & initiatives that essentially dig their graves for them Like when they voted to support unlimited contributions to campaigns from Corporations. The Conservative movement is about 10% Rich & Educated (but mostly rich) people, and 90% people who are manipulated into doing things that keep that 10% rich. That's all FOX executives, Mitch McConnel, Rush Limbaugh, and the other 10% do--scare the conservatard sheep

Is Kaiser HMO a good health insurance plan to buy?

Here's the thing. My current doctor told me that he's leaving and he's going to Kaiser. I don't want to lose him so I my only way would be to purchase Kaiser. So if I already know the doctor I want, does that make Kaiser okay? What are the benefits and drawbacks of Kaiser Health?

Kaiser is one of the best HMOs. I'd be comfortable making the switch.

--------------------
I have used Kaiser for over 25 years and had 3 babies in their Walnut Creek hospital. I really love Kaiser, it is a great program. I have one child that sees a specialist once a month, not with Kaiser, and he charges me 850 for his time and about 200 for tests. Kaiser pays them without any problem, I do not even have to deal with anything.

Can you lie about smoking/non on a health insurance application?

So many people say "check non" but it seems so easy to get caught.
--------------------
Yes, you can. But it can invalidate coverage. And it would really stink to be handed a $50,000 medical bill, unexpectedly.

Why should I have to pay the government for health insurance?

How is that not fascism ?!?!?!
--------------------
Where in the Constitution does the government derive the power to provide health care in the first place. I know they can regulate interstate trade (trade BETWEEN the state), but health care is not interstate trade, it's intrastate trade )(trade WITHIN a state).

If we are already paying taxes for people without health care insurance?

Then why not just change the law, and refuse health care to those without insurance. Then they would be required to go out and WORK and PAY THEIR OWN WAY !!!! No health care insurance, no treatment. TOO FREAKIN BAD SICK PERSON!!!!! Report me at: www.flag@whitehouse.gov

Applying for health insurance - need help with a question?

They ask if I have ever been referred to a specialist for a mental disorder including depression. Well my doctor told me to speak to a councellor through relate. Is that the same? The doctor didn't find the counsellor for me. Also when I was a child my GP arranged counselling.

whats the difference between a premium, standard and PPO health insurance coverage?

premium cost is $130, standard is $120, PPO is $303 a mo. annual out of pocket on premium is 3000 family, PPO is 4000 family, lifetime max is none on premium and unlimited on PPO...I don't understand the difference because everything else is pretty much the same...the premium has lower overall costs or no charge and lower co-pays...why? and it costs less per month than the PPO?
--------------------
Darling, this is an extremely loaded question! I processed health insurance claims for CIGNA healthcare for two years, and I can tell you that although they all "look" the same, they are probably all very different. First, your major concern is whether or not any of them are managed healthcare (HMO). It is a horrible form of healthinsurance and all of the class action lawsuits against it will back me up. Additionally, are you looking at what kinds of benefits are handled by third party vendors. This is sometimes called "carving out" or repricing benefits for things like: vision, dental, labs, x-rays, and the BIG ONE! mental health. Moreover, you need to see what kinds of providers accept these different kinds of insurances. Are there contracted providers? Contracted providers have to take what they get from your insurance and then call it quits; they cant decide to come after you for the balance. (If they do, thats called balance billing and could cost them big time.) If they dont have any/many contracted providers, then whoever you see can chose whether or not to balance bill you. If you have specific questions and want to contact me, please feel free. It is important that you purchase healthcare that is going to be there for you when you need it, and try to minimize buying something that you dont need, all at the same time.

I have a total of 87 assignments and I'm currently stuck on the health insurance forms. The area to the left of the form, 1a. - 13a, has me confused.

health insurance question: i work for a small company. we switched to a cheaper health insurance plan within?

oxford because i added my wife and 2 kids on after my wife left her job. my current plan would have cost 1,900 a month for family coverage. we switched to one through oxford as well with 1,300 a month coverage. the in network coverage seems to be identical except the copays are 20 for primary care and 30 for specialist instead of 10 and 10 on the old plan. in network hospitalization is 500 dollar co-pay for in-patient and $250 co-pay for out-patient. on the out of network this is the deal: 2,000 deductible per person and 6,000 per family total deductible. co-insurance is listed as 70% of 10,000. out of pocket is listed as 3,000 per person and 9,000 per family excluding deductible. out of network hospitalization is deductible and co-insurance. out of network E.R. visits are 75 dollars each. my general question is this decent health insurance? would this be considered high deductible insurance? would i be completely screwed if a family member had to stay out of network at a hospital?
--------------------
This is decent health coverage. Most plans will cover out of network benefits at the same level as in network if you have an emergency and need immediate care. But, you are expected to transfer to an in network facility as soon as you are stable and can do so. You might want to consider getting you wife and/or kids an individual plan instead of using your employer group plan. It may save you some money that can help offset your higher out of pocket costs.

I sell health insurance - is it time to look for a new job?

Hello, From my carrier experience, most carriers have their rates set up with a target loss ratio of 70%. With the bills that have passed the house and senate, they both look like the government is forcing an 85% target loss ratio. Which means that they need to cut 15%. Since I make 5% on what I sell, it sure looks like they will cut out brokers/agents. Any thoughts?
--------------------
Since the senate mandating that everyone BUY health insurance, it's probably the worst time for you to get out of it. And, the obvious way to get the pure loss ratio from 85% to 70%, is to raise rates.

I don't have money for health insurance, what can I do?

I am a very healthy person, and rarely need a doctor or a dentist. I am 31 years old, non smoker, non drinker and live in Michigan. The only thing that I might need someday is coverage in case I have to go to the emergency room because I broke a bone or something like that. Is there a way to get free health insurance? ps. My wife works but I don't want her to pay for it.
--------------------
YES, oh course you can get free insurance. you should get on public aid they will provide you with good doctor. I'm currently on it right now because since im pregnant no one wants to hire me and its important that i have insurance. My husband works but his insurance is just enough to cover only him. You should look into it right away, you dont want to have high hospital bills and regret it later. GOOD LUCK
