Do Health insurance companies raise premiums based on how many claims you file or doctor visits you make?

Is a health insurance company aloud to raise your premiums based on how many times you visit a doctor or how many times you file claims with them and make them pay benefits? Or like if your diagnosed with a serious condition? Or are they only aloud to raise premiums based on your age?
--------------------
In NJ rates are based on demographics, age, and gender. In NY rates are community rated and can only increase with the trend. That is for group insurance for small business. Rates for large groups are experience rated. I don't know what state you are in so I can't tell you for sure.

How can I get free health insurance?

I am 20 yrs old and just started college. I am independent and live on my own, am not dependent on parents once so ever. I have no job now and I really should have health insurance. I can't afford a monthly insurance bill without having a steady source of income, because I'm in college F.T. I am very healthy and have never needed to go to the hospital for anything in my childhood. But I feel that I should have health insurance now because of all the stuff I do, that I could easily get hurt. Please advise.
--------------------
it depends on what state you reside in. all you have to do is find the health department in your county, go to it and ask the receptionist about health care available to people that have low incomes and they will give you all the information you need.

What are some good, low cost family health insurance plans for us...?

My husband and I need health insurance. He is a full time student and I am full time worker. We cannot get decent health insurance through his school or my work. We are looking for a low deductable, 0% coinsurance, and we need something with great maternity coverage, since we're planning on starting a family soon. If you know of any great plans like this, please share! Thank you for your help!
--------------------
Talk to Blue Cross/Blue Shield, I heard they are a non profit insurance co. Might be able to good plan.

How can I ask my employer to provide and pay more health insurance for my spouse and children?

My spouse is leaving her job due to circumstances beyond our control. Our family had health insurance through her employer but now we are losing it since she is leaving.
--------------------
Your employer does not control this. Open changes to insurance only happens every year at the beginning of the year, your premiums are based onan enrollment for a year. If you need extra coverage, see if your family qualifies for county health care, you may get her and kids on a discounted health or free.

Will I still have health insurance in a community college?

If I leave a 4 year university to become a student in an online degree program, will I still be covered under my parent's health insurance? I am 19.
--------------------
In most health plans, as long as you are a full-time student, then you are still covered. But check with them, to make very sure. The time you want to find that out is BEFORE you need it!

How much cheaper is health insurance in Texas?

Does anyone have data, did Tort reform lower health insurance costs? I mean isn't texas having a surplus or perhaps a surge of doctors since passing such law? Let's prove to the liberals this works by using the facts for a change.
--------------------
Great question! I would love someone to have some links to back up the claims as well! http://www.tortreform.com/about The Texas Tort reform groups have not claimed on their website that this is about lowering insurance costs. Click on the links to see. FACT - Insurance companies in the USA admit to pushing up prices, buying politicians and not paying out claims when they should [a] FACT - PER PERSON the USA spends more on healthcare than any other nation on the planet [b] FACT - Obama debated his plans before the election for healthcare [c] FACT - the chance of a child under five of dying in the USA is greater than industrialised nations with universal health coverage [d] FACT - Obama was elected to bring in change [e] FACT - Obama wants to stop insurance companies screwing the American people [f] FACT - The reforms Obama wants work in the Netherlands and in Switzerland [g] If anyone can prove the facts above are wrong, e-mail me and let me know.

How much do you have to pay if your health insurance?

How much do you have to pay if your health insurance only cover 50%? My aunt is pregnant and wondering about this.. Would her baby be cover by her insurance even she hasn't add him/her yet?
--------------------
The baby is automatically covered right after birth but you have to add him usually within a few days after his birth to continue his coverage. I had a c-section and my insurance paid 90% so for everything I had done and the hospital stay (3 days) it was just under $1000 for my daughter and I. She was perfectly healthy and we both had no complications. If her insurance only covers 50% I would expect her bills to be around $1500-2500 depending on the hospital, where she is located, and if she no complications.

What's a good health insurance company for a family of 4 in AZ that allows preexisting conditions?

What's a good health insurance company for a family of 4 in AZ that allows preexisting conditions, has a low annual out of pocket, allows mail order perscriptions, and has a high lifetime cap?
--------------------
It depends on what the conditions are. Some companies may decline any particular condition while others may accept. Those that will accept may rider the condition. This means they'll accept you but not cover the condition for a period of time which could be from 1 year to permanent. However, even permanent riders may be removed over time. Other companies will accept you and the condition but will increase the premium up to 50%. All companies in AZ have a 6 month pre-existing condition clause but if the condition is minor and you've had previous insurance it may be waived. Not everyone needs to be on the same policy. Companies that may accept the pre-existing condition may not have the low annual out of pocket and high lifetime cap that you want. In that case that person can get on the policy that accepts them while everyone else can get a "better" plan. You'll need to visit a local agent that works with all the major companies in AZ. The agent can do a prescreen with all the companies to find your best options. There is no extra charge using an agent.

Do you think that dental work should be covered by regular health insurance plans?

I don't see why it isn't already. If your teeth get too bad, it can affect your brain. Are there any health insurance plans that include dental, or do you always have to get dental separate?
--------------------
Dental Insurance policies are separate from Health Insurance. Most policies will allow you to buy a rider including dental, but even still the policies rarely cover 100% of everything you need done or they have a low maximum. It would make life so much easier if dental was included on the health insurance, but for some reason teeth and eye are considered separate. I have worked with policies that are supose to cover dental if the dental procedures are a direct cause of an accident and still they require the sun, moon and the stars before they will pay and they only give an alotted time for all the work to be completed. If you have ever visited a nursing home you can see just how important teeth are for those who are frail and need to take in nourishment, it can come down to a life and death issue, what a shame.

What is the best course of action for someone with pre-existing cancer looking for health insurance?

A friend of mine has cancer and may not be able to continue working due to the effects of chemotherapy. If she cannot continue to work she will lose her health insurance. Would there be any options for her once COBRA expires?
--------------------
Yes. COBRA will help her while she is undergoing treatment and than once treatment is complete and she picks up new insurance or gets a new job the insurance must treat her as if she did not have a 'pre-existing condition'. She can find out more from the American Cancer Society and or a medical social worker who can help her file papers and make the right decisions in regards to insurance and financial situations. is it safe to purchase health insurance on the phone or internet?

I recently became self employed. I don't presently carry health insurance, however I have preexisting health issues. There are many offers that sound too good to be true my concern is they want money over the phone or internet. Their offer was $129---$179 mtly to included doctors visits medications no deductible but a copay for doctors visit and medications. Could this be legit? Who do I call to check how legit?
--------------------
If you have pre-existing conditions you definitely do not want to do this over the internet. Depending upon the condition each insurance company could do several things, such as increasing the premium and covering the condition, accepting but not covering that condition, or actually declining you. Doing this over the internet you do not know what the company will do with that condition. Over the phone is OK if the person you are talking with is a local person that represents all of the major companies in your area because they can check your condition with the different companies to find out what each company will do with that condition. The plan you are describing sounds like a defined benefit plan. I recommend these plans ONLY to people who cannot qualify for a major medical plan because of the limitations. For example, they'll only pay you $500 per day if you go into the hospital - you have the pay the $3000 - $4000 balance. They are legit but in my opinion not very good because of the many limitations. Don't fall for the marketing gimmick "group plans for the self-employed". Again, these plans are not really group plans and have many limitations. The best way for you to proceed is to contact a local agent that works with all of the major companies in your area. The agent can work with you to find the best plan for your situation and budget. There is no extra charge using an agent and you have someone local that you can go to if you have questions or problems.

Is there an organization I can join to get group health insurance rates?

I am going to end my employer health insurance coverage if I can find a better one. Are there any associations or organizations one can join that provide members a way to join a group health insurance plan? I'm thinking of organizations like art organizations, or professional organizations.
--------------------
Well, they don't really do that any more. You can join a group, and APPLY for an individual plan, associated with the group - but they don't have to take you, and they individually rate you. Try this site, if you want to find your best or cheapest health insurance rates just in few minutes, http://cheap-health-insurance-rate.info Here you can get free quotes from different companies in your area, its the best way to find an affordable health insurance with a reliable company. What the heck is up with this health care program and potential fines if I do not have health insurance?

I am unemployed with virtually no income. Will I be fined if I cannot afford to buy health insurance?
--------------------
First off, there's no final bill yet and everything you've heard so far is just talking. Secondly there are provisions in the bill for health care for those whom can not afford it, but again it's just talk at this point. It also depends on which bill you look at as well. It's the democratic process and happens for every bill wether a Dem or Rep is in office.

What is the age limit for a son or daughter to be covered on health insurance?

Several years ago I recall the news reporting that children could be carried on their parents' health insurance through age 25 without proof that they were a student. My son is a student, but I am still trying to find the law.
--------------------
There is no national law, and most states don't have such a law either. At least one state does have the type of law you are describing...however, even then there are restrictions on that coverage. For example, in New Jersey, according to state law a dependent can be left on the plan until age 30 if he/she meets certain criteria. Here are the requirements, from New Jersey's Department of Insurance website: http://www.state.nj.us/dobi/dependentsun… I thought I recalled hearing about a similar law for West Virginia, but a quick search online didn't turn up anything. You didn't mention what state you live in, but almost every state has no such law. So, its likely that you're out of luck. The student requirement is up to each employer to negotiate when they establish their benefit plan, and the rules for your benefit plan should be pretty cut and dry.

Friend diagnosed with uterine cancer with no health insurance. What should she do?

My friend recently got diagnosed with uterine cancer. She is only 26 years old and does not have health insurance. She cannot afford the diagnostic procedure they want to do to remove the cancer. (D and C?) Is there any program that you know of that can help her? Her daughter is on medical.
--------------------
most states have emergency catastropic medicaid. she can call her county health department, or talk to the social service department at the hospital in her community. there are a few programs out there. this is another reason to pass universal health care. how awful. im sorry.

How long do I have to have health insurance to have them cover my bills?

I am looking to get health insurance because I have to take care of some stomach problems, and I was just wondering how long I have to have it for them to cover my entire bill???
--------------------
It depends entirely on the insurance provider and the type of insurance you buy. Some insurance providers require that you pay a deductable and you won't be covered until it's paid. You might never have insurance that covers your expenses 100%, but some insurance only requires a co-payment. It all depends on the insurance and what it is you're being treated for and your medical needs.

How much my health insurance will cost?

Hi, I am leaving my current job for a new one, which don't provide health insurance and need me to buy my own for my family of 3 (spouse and 7-mo baby). I never buy health insurance on my own, I wonder how much it generally cost for either PPO and HMO. Both my wife and I don't have pre-exist conditions, and we don't see doctors often, now the most doctor visit is for the baby's regular check up, which requires once every couple months. Thank you!
--------------------
For a low/no deductible HMO, on a family plan, with a child under 1, and NO maternity benefits, in most states you should be budgeting $2,000 a month for your health insurance. You can cut that WAY back, by taking on a deductible - like paying the first $2500 of all your medical bills, should bring it down under $1,000 a month.

I have a liability claim against at fault parties for damages. What duty due I owe to my health insurance co?

( Premises liability)There are about $ 20,000 in medical bills. Will the health insurance co file a lien against the at fault party's insurance company or will they have a right to my settlement. Also, the at fault party has $ 5000 in med pay coverage. Would my health insurance be able to file a claim against that? My health insurance co - bcbs has been VERY uncoopertive in explaining this to me. Thank you.
--------------------
They will have a right to your settlement, under the "transfer of rights of recovery" section. Yes, they can attach the medical payments amount, OR any liability payment amount, up to how much they paid out.

How many hours do you have to work in California to be eligible for health insurance?

I work 35 hours a week, and have no health insurance. Am I eligible? Should I question this?
--------------------
Health insurance is not mandatory in CA; it's an optional benefit. You can check with your HR department to see what is offered, but there is no obligation to provide healthcare benefits in California. (union contracts aside.)

If my parents pay my health insurance are they also legally liable for my driving?

If I get into a car accident and have my own car and insurance policy but my parents pay my health insurance are they liable? Can they be sued?
--------------------
Not automatically - but a good lawyer can make a strong case for it, if your parents are providing you ANY financial support. I had a client get sued for an accident his son was in, and he LOST that lawsuit. As I posted, the other time you asked this.
