Why can't small businesses in each state group together to get better and more affordable health insurance?

Who regulates this? The insurance companies? The large companies? It doesn't make sense that this cannot be done.
--------------------
cause there are laws that govern that sort of thing...and trust me they are set up to protect insurance companies and enhance profits. Also...even larger plans these days are nothing to brag about.....its easy to find a family coverage out there that is very crappy and where the employer and employee are paying over $18,000 a year to cover just 3 family members.

Why wouldn't politicians who believe the private middle class is the market help them give health insurance ?

The whole issue of insurance was from WWII and they used it to recruit workers if that's the case why not give incentives.
--------------------
I do not understand why so many Americans have fallen for lies about healthcare in the USA, abroad and also the planned reforms [1]. I mean, if the healthcare system in the USA is so good, why have no other nations taken it up? Could it be due to the following facts? FACT - the USA spends more on healthcare PER PERSON than any other nation on the planet [2]. FACT - the US has higher death rates for kids under five than western European countries with universal health coverage [3]. Or if the US healthcare system is run so well, why not run the fire service like the healthcare system? [4] Maybe that is because in the USA, insurance companies push up costs, buy politicians and refuse to pay claims that people pay for [5]. (Look up Wendell Potter on YouTube to hear more if the link below is too long.) Obama wants to make insurance cheaper, stop insurance companies from refusing health coverage to those with pre-existing conditions, and make sure they pay out when they are meant to [6], a system similar to that which works in Taiwan [7]. He debated this before he was elected [8]. Is it right that a dead American four year old would have had a better chance of life if they were born in Canada, Cuba, Germany and so many other industrialised nations with universal healthcare? If you think my arguments are wrong, e-mail me with proof. But if you can not, let Obama try to help America. If he fails, vote him out in 2012.

I'm applying for health insurance from my employer who doesn't know I'm pregnant yet, what should I do?

I found out I was pregnant a few days after I started working for this company. Now that I completed the 3 months probation period, I'm applying for health insurance but in the form I'm filling they ask if I'm pregnant! I don't want to brake the news this way, I wanted to tell the in a more courteous manner because they've been really good to me. Now it seems that I'm handing the papers and telling them that I'm 4 months pregnant!!! Does not look very appropiate, but I'm force to do it. I need the insurance badly, it's true, but that is not the reason I got a job in hte first place.
--------------------
Do what you need to do. If you have to turn the papers in now then do it. This is about the health of you and your baby and insurance is VITAL for that. Manners can wait while you get what you need.

If you have a choice between the new government health insurance and private, which are you going to choose?

How will it effect private insurance? Will a lot of employers drop their plans, hoping that the government will cover everybody now?
--------------------
Simple economics. The tax imposed on employers for not covering their employees is less than the cost of providing insurance, which will cause many employers to drop the plan, especially if the economy is bad when the bill becomes effective. Some employers will "carve out" management and offer them private group coverage and let the regular employees fend for themselves. There will also still be private group plans for union workers because the unions will demand the superior coverage. Of course, government workers will still have private coverage. Current private individual plans will vanish because they will not be allowed to add new members. Through attrition the plan membership will become so small that it will not be economically feasible to continue the plans. Private companies that offer exchange qualified plans will be available but the cost will be much higher. This is because the government option uses Medicare doctors and pays the doctors and hospitals Medicare rates plus 5%, which is 50% to 70% of what private companies pay.

Why should it be an employers responsibility to supply health insurance to their employees?

Shouldn't an individual be responsible for his own health?
--------------------
Because you have better bargaining power when you can purchase multiple policies.

In the health insurance world, what is a flex credit?

I just got added to my partners insurance plan through her job. Her taxes then proceeded to go up by about $60 a pay, and when making $13 an hour, that can be a lot. She works exactly 80 hours a pay cycle, so the taxes should be very similar, and then she got a letter saying that taxes will be withheld from your pay based on the flex credits received. Any ideas on what that would mean?
--------------------
Couple points: + Employers today often have a lower contribution for single coverage than for dependents. Thus, when you enrolled her contribution, each pay day, for her share of the monthly premium may be more than double what she was paying. It would be listed as a contribution. + Some firms give employees a certain amount of credits to use toward all the benefits they offer e.g. medical, dental, 401(k), etc. This is often called a flexible benefit plan - thus the term flex credits. Firms usually give more credits to a person who enrolls a spouse, domestic partner, new child, etc.

What do you think of California Gov Schwarzenegger's plan to cut childrens health insurance for 1 million kids?

The LA Times is reporting that Governor Schwarzenegger's plan to reduce the deficit would be to cut health insurance for 1 million kids as well as to reduce cash grants for working-class college students. http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-… Your thoughts on it?
--------------------
You said it: "to reduce the deficit." Most states, as far as I know, are not allowed to run with deficit spending, like the feds. The major reason: no way to create "funny money" through printing huge amounts of currency and floating loans in the form of bonds to the rest of the world. In order to stay afloat, the feds continue to "rob Peter to pay Paul." Individual states can't do that for very long without some severe consequences.

Where do I go to apply for state provided health insurance in Orgeon?

I've recently found myself without insurance and I'm fairly certain that my income qualifies me for the programs offered. I live in St. Johns in Portland OR. I also think I could qualify for SSI and for an Oregon Trail Card(food stamps for anyone who doesn't live in OR). I'm not trying to take advantage of the government or the system, I'm just trying to feed my family and give us clothes to wear so any help on where to go or what to do would help.
--------------------
One place to start is with DHS (the Department of Health Services). They are the administrators for the Oregon Health Plan that you asked about. They have their eligibility posted on their website. For other help with where to go, starting here should get you started on finding out about what's available from the state. For local servies, I would recommend posting a question under travel >U.S. > Portland as there will probably be locals that could help with local resources.

Does Bin Laden love that more Americans deaths can be linked to health insurance company decisions than 911?

By allowing private insurance companies to deny cover to Americans because it would hurt the company profits and shareholder dividends instead of paying what they should have or providing healthcare to the poor, Bin Laden must be laughing in his cave and thanking the politicians for supporting the insurance companies and not the people.

I love your in depth analysis it is quite informative indeed.

Will health insurance cover a serious pre-existing condition?

I believe I may have a serious medical condition. I know I should go to the doctor ASAP but I have a concern about my health insurance. My coverage is ok but not the greatest. I may or may not be changing jobs and the new job has much better insurance. Also, I am currently on my wife's health insurance policy and she may be changing jobs in March. How do I know if my possible medical condition would be covered by any new insurance policy? If it turns out to be serious, I may not be able to afford to pay my medical bills if my new insurance carrier chooses not to cover it. What are my options?
--------------------
(This answer assumes you are a U.S. resident.) There is good news for you: the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) will provide you with protection in this situation. There is not enough information to conclusively tell you whether the plan through your or your wife's new insurer will completely extinguish your pre-existing condition exclusionary period, but if you've been covered at least 18 months under a group plan, it definately will. Go here to read more: http://www.dol.gov/ebsa/faqs/faq_consume… If your or your wife's new plan has a "waiting period," all you have to do is elect COBRA during that period of time. Even if you choose not to elect COBRA, the waiting period cannot be counted as a period of lapse; therefore, it isn't counted against the 63-day period you'll read about in the link above. p.s. -- I have expert knowledge regarding HIPAA provisions and there's alot of misinformation here about this issue. If you have any questions, please send me a message through Yahoo Answers.

Wouldn't it be great of health insurance companies paid republicans to protest?

Then we could all have jobs everyday and get meals at home. Lol, the idea that American citizens are being paid by insurance companies is a ridiculous claim from any other American. Don't you think? Especially when people are loosing jobs.. I wouldn't surprised to see democrats take up this offer so they can feed their family as well.

Most Republicans have some sort of work and will work, which is more then I can say for 95% of the people who voted for the African!
