Aren't those with private health insurance already paying for the care of others?

The whole theory of insurance is that a large group pays in every month while they are healthy so that those few who get sick can get care when they need it. That means that you are already paying for other peoples health care. How is that any different from having a national plan that takes care of sick citizens while taking a portion in taxes from each worker? Private insurers generally pay out 60-65 cents of each dollar collected in benefits. National providers pay more like 90-95 cents on the dollar. Can anybody clear this up for me?

Where did your figures come from? It is the number going to the ER that is a major factor in the rising costs. Especially the illegals.

My son's health insurance through work is very poor. Is he eligible for any supplemental type of insurance?

We live in Wisconsin and there is Badger Care. This apparently is not available if he has health insurance offered through work. The maximum this policy will pay is $2000. What happens if he has a major illness or accident requiring hospitalization?

I have Medicaid, do I need some other kind of health insurance besides the Medicaid?

I have Medicaid health insurance(haven't used it yet), but read somewhere that it doesn't cover much? Do you know of any affordable health insurance I can also get-don't have much money. Are there any organizations you can join to get health insurance? Am I allowed to have other health insurance even though I have Medicaid. I live in Massachusetts.
--------------------
Some people get confused over whether they have Medicaid or Medicare. Medicaid is welfare from the state for very low or no income persons, Medicare, sometimes referred to as the red, white, and blue card, you get automatically when you attain age 65 or if you are disabled, you get in your 25th month of disability. I think you must have Medicare and you absolutely need a supplement and Part D to go with it. If you do have Medicaid then you don't need anything to go with it and you couldn't possibly afford to pay for it anyway. Take out your card and look at it it will say Medicare or Department of Community Affairs, you will know then. Best wishes.

Why is the Obama going to tax health insurance?

Obama wants to tax health insurance that will increase my rates. Why would he do this for? I think he wants to tax health insurance to put them out of business so we have to use his public insurance.

Wasn't one of his main campaign arguments against McCain was that McCain wanted to do this? What a hypocrite.

How do I pick the best Health Insurance?

I am a bit young. So I don't know too much about how to buy good health insurance. Can anyone tell me what exactly I need to look for?
--------------------
a low deductible, inexpensive office visit co-pays, high coverage amounts for inpatient and outpaitent care are the first things to look for. And, most obviously, an inexpensive monthly bill.

If you took a class about better understading your health insurance, what would you hope to learn?

I'm going to be offering a 4 hour class on helping people to better understand their health insurance and taking a pro-active approach to it, and want to make sure I cover topics and questions that people may have! I work in billing for a hospital, and am always helping my family and friends figure out what's going on with their insurance (especially if they have two), and was even able to save my mom over $1500 on a bill that was processed wrong by her insurance! Any thoughts or suggestions would be welcome!! Thank you!
--------------------
Love your idea. i just applied and it took 2 months and I still dont know what Ive been covered for as I didn't qualify for the one I wanted. My deduct able for instance,is 5000. Do I have to have 5000 worth of visits before I am covered? You are doing a good thing.

Will I be forced to provide health insurance for the illegal immigrants who clean my house under the proposed?

Will I be forced to provide health insurance for the illegal immigrants who clean my house under the proposed legislation?
--------------------
I would assume that you hire a contracting company to do this work. In which case, the contracting company is responsible for medical insurance and for checking immigration status. If you are hiring them yourself, you have a lot worse things in the legal area to worry about if you are found to have been hiring illegal immigrants. And if you are hiring some yourself, you are part of the problem and you are one of the people attracting them here in the first place. I believe that as an employer of less tna 25 people you would be exempt from having to provide medical care. But you will have to send in 8% extra when you send in their taxes. And if you are hiring them yourself and not sending in their taxes, as their employer, you are opening yourself up to a much larger world of legal hurt. And this is under existing law. Really, you should not knowingly hire illegal immigrants for any purpose.

Can my grandma get health insurance now that her husband has passed?

My grandfather recently passed away and my grandma had insurance through him at his job. Can she get health benefits now that she is on her own? And is there a way to see if he had life insurance. Is there a number to call?
--------------------
Your grandmother, depending on the size of the employer, has rights to 36 months of COBRA coverage (as long as the employer has had more than 20 employees -full and part time-) Depending on the state she lives in will determine how much "state continuation" if available she has. It depends how the employer is set up with the Group Health Insurance. I would have your grandmother contact his employer and tell them she is interested in continuation. She will continue on with the same benefits she had when your grandfather was alive. Another possibility is www.goldenrule.com, or www.horizonbenefits.com (not sure of this one) If you go go www.unitedhealthgroup.com, you may find links to those two brands. They are for individual coverage and the site should be able to help you determine if it is available in your state.

When does health insurance expire when you move out of state?

Suppose you have health insurance in New York, and you plan to move to California. Before the actual move, you drive a vehicle across country, get a California license, register your vehicle, and register to vote. Then you fly back to New York for four months. You go to the doctor, and your NY insurance pays up. But then you get a letter from the insurance company, sent to the CA address but forwarded to NY, saying they heard you'd moved, so your insurance will be cancelled. You write back, telling them their information is premature, and that you'll change insurance when you complete the move. After four months, you complete the move to CA, and two days after your arrival, you start feeling woozy -- feverish with occasional headaches -- requiring bed rest and lots of fluids. If this doesn't clear up in a day or two, you'll want to see a doctor. Will you be covered by the NY insurance, given that you haven't had time yet to get CA insurance?
--------------------
OK, once you change your license and/or voter registration, you're no longer a NY resident. Once you're not a NY resident for 30 days, your health policy is void. There's a reason for that - health insurance policies - coverages, providers, rules, regulations, etc., are governed by the state insurance department of the state you live in. A NY policy is NOT going to cover a CA resident, legally, according to the CA resident's insurance commissioner. You've had 4 months to complete the move to CA. And unless they sent you a "reinstatement" notice on your health insurance, it was cancelled the date they originally indicated in your cancellation notice.

--------------------
Ms. Obsidianflowers, Your concept of insurance is misguided. Purchasing "insurance" to cover a known upcoming health expense and then canceling the insurance right after the company pays for the procedure is not the way health insurance works. Insurance is purchased to cover unexpected accidents or illness. What you are proposing is, pure and simple, cheating the people who do buy and pay for health insurance.

what is the best absolute posibble health insurance to have?

I wanted to know what is the best health insurance. Can I pay out of pocket for something like blue cross how much is it.
--------------------
There is no "best" insurance. You can find plans that fit you the best, but if you want a low premium, a low deductible, and great benefits, you better plan on paying a lot of money every month or trying to find a group insurance and paying a lot of money for it. Blue Cross Blue Shield has a web site that you can rate the options you want, high, and the ones you don't, low. By doing this, they evaluate what plans would suit you by your choices. Sometimes it is best to go to a local independent agency that can find you a great plan at a reasonable price. If you find that perfect plan or the "best" plan, let me know!!!

When is the Health insurance for small businesses take effect?

I'm a small business owner who can not afford any health insurance and is considering to work for a big corporation part time just to have health insurance. If the Obama plan takes into effect, will it still be worth it for me to work part time just to get health insurance and save money or it won't make any difference since as a small business owner I'ld still have to get health insurance.
--------------------
Unless you have at least 50 employees, you don't have to buy health insurance for your employees. You can keep your private coverage.

How much should an employer pay for his employees health insurance?

I have a small business with one full and several part time employees. I'm looking into paying for health insurance coverage for my one full time employee. I've been told I should just set a certain amount I am willing to pay for the policy and let the employee pick his coverage. How much is reasonable for a small business to pay for a monthly health insurance premium for one employee (example, $100.00 per month, $200.00 per month) What is the standard (if there is such a thing!).
--------------------
Anywhere from 0% to 100%. Or anywhere in between. It's really going to depend on what you can afford. It's pretty reasonable to say, ok, I can pay $150 a month towards your health insurance.

What type of health insurance to get if i think I have cancer?

Hi, I'm a 23 year old guy, self employed. I currently have health insurance but I moved to a different state so I'm going to get new health insurance. I have this feeling I have cancer, and I'm going to go to the doctor soon, but what kind of new health insurance should I get just to be safe? What type? HSA? I know nothing about health insurance, please help!
--------------------
If you jump into the health care system in America, you will need approximately $300,000 to be paid to the system. That is how much the typical cancer patient is worth to the system. If you have cancer, the medical system does not do very well with cancer. I strongly suggest getting their opinions and then look at alternative methods of making your body healthy. The statistical success of the allopathic medical system is very poor, contrary to what they would have you believe. Do your homework and it is you who has to make up your mind as to what to do, not anyone else. good luck to you

How many jobs are baby boomers losing out on because employers have to offer health insurance?

In many corporations there is a hiring bias in favor of the young and inexperienced. But the employers have to take into consideration the costs of health insurance, and if their employees are overwhelmingly in their 20's and 30's, then they are able to negotiate for better rates with the insurance companies. If job seekers were given the option to forgo employee health insurance, wouldn't that open up a lot more higher paid opportunities for older workers?

when i worked at xxxxx company (a very large, well-known company) they gave you the option of saying no to insurance. i should have said no to insurance back then because i never got sick, therefore, i was paying into a system which i never used

what is the best health insurance for a newly married couple to get?

My husband and I just got married and are looking to get health insurance. we both can not get insurance through work. we live in arizona, my husband attends ASU. We are both involved in masters programs. We are looking to start a family poss. with in the year! what is the best coverage we can get, with our student incomes? thanks in advance for any advice / guidence you can provide!
--------------------
There is no one best company and with health insurance you get what you pay for. Shopping for health insurance is like shopping for a new car. When you shop for a new car you have a choice between the basic low end model with no options, a fully loaded luxury car, or something in between. If you shop for the cheapest you'll get the basic low end model which may or may not have the benefits and coverage you are looking for. You should talk with an agent that works with all the major companies in your area. The agent can find the best plan for your situation and budget and can explain what you get and, more importantly, what you won't get with the plan. There is no extra charge using an agent. ASU does have a basic health plan available, plus there are other student plans available which have basic coverage. Very few individual plans have maternity benefits. Maternity is more of a pre-payment plan with a waiting period. No insurance company is going to pay out more for your delivery than it receives in premium. Complications of pregnancy, such as a C-section, are covered with all major plans in AZ.

How can I get an inexpensive Health Insurance while having no job and on disability?

I am on a workman's comp. claim which is temporary disability, I am not able to return to work for another 6-12 months. I am getting married in August and eventually would like to have children in the next year. Who will give me health insurance at a rate I can afford, and will be able to cover pregnancy in the months to come after we get married? Thanks for your help!
--------------------
Chelsea, If you're on worker's comp, check with your employer to see if you are already covered under an existing health insurance plan. For other options though, there's a very good article at eHow that discusses how to get health insurance for you and your family when you don't have a job that covers you: http://www.ehow.com/how_2367563_keep-hea… How to Get Health Insurance Take a look at it, as it covers all the major possibilities for getting insurance, and gives some great resources you can use. Could someone explain the walmart health insurance clause to pay them back in case a suit is won?

Is it health insurance or is it not? If its health insurance, there is a contractual obligation to pay for the cost of health care. Why should someone have to pay them back money from a lawsuit to reimburse them?...that would make it not be insurance...if you have to pay back the benefits. If its not insurance, what is it?
--------------------
This is called "subrogation", and it exists in ALL insurance policies, not just health insurance. The legal principal is that whoever is responsible for the injury or damage should pay for it. Health insurance (or car insurance, or home insurance) will pay your damages up front, but they will then recover from the party at fault. Richard
