What if someone doesn't want health insurance?

In my American Spectra class we are debating the Health Care Reform. I am on the opposing team and would like some help getting good questions to ask the affirmative team in the debate next week.
--------------------
Then at the moment, if they need emergency treatment they go to the ER and push up costs for those with insurance. But not everyone without insurance does not want it. FACT - Insurance companies in the USA admit to pushing up prices, buying politicians and not paying out claims when they should [1] FACT - PER PERSON the USA spends more on healthcare than any other nation on the planet [2] FACT - Obama debated his plans before the election for healthcare [3] FACT - the chance of a child under five of dying in the USA is greater than industrialised nations with universal health coverage [4] FACT - Obama was elected by the American people to bring in change [5] FACT - Obama wants to stop insurance companies from screwing American's [6] FACT - The reforms Obama wants work in the Netherlands and Switzerland [7] Let me know if my facts are wrong, but please provide proof.

Wife was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, and we do not have health insurance. Any options to get some?

I left my position with a company in 11/05 to work as a consultant on a very large, long-term engagement. The headhunter indicated that after 6-months, I'd likely be considered for permanent hire, but I now know that is open-ended in reality. In 11/05 we rolled the dice and opted not to get insurance in the interim. Alas, my wife has now been diagnosed with breast cancer. It is early, so her propects are good, but will require surgery. The surgery, hospital stay and follow-up care will be extremely expensive, so we're searching for ways to alleviate the financial impact as best we can. The insurance carriers we have contacted will not cover "pre-existing conditions", so that includes us. So we're not sure what alternatives we have, if any, besides paying all of the expenses out of pocket. We're willing to have a very high deductible and pay a larger than normal percentage of the medical fees if necessary as long as the coverage is immediate. We reside in New Jersey.
--------------------
I know of a health care savings program that can save 30-50% depending on the services needed. It is not insurance but a savings program so you will qualify. I do not want people to think this is solicitation or advertising so getting more info I am leaving for you to contact me.

Is there a health insurance company out there that pays for gym membership.?

I hear they do.But mines doesn't cover it.
--------------------
You heard wrong. Health insurers will not pay for that. Some EMPLOYERS do.

If a person chooses to NOT buy health insurance, WHY does Obama insist that people WANT to purchase it?

He says THIS IS WHAT THE AMERICAN PEOPLE WANT! I don't believe it, because I don't believe those people have decided they want to spend their money on insurance. I don't, and I don't want to be FORCED to do it!!!
--------------------
Right. Just thinking about the layers and layers of government bureaucracy that will ensue when they "take over" health care, makes the average American want to just pay out of pocket for regular dr. visits and buy a "catastrophic" policy for everything else. Shouldn't that be a choice?

I need to find a health insurance plan for a small bussiness. Which one is the best? great dental?

I need to find a health insurance plan for a small bussiness. Which one is the best? Specially with great dental?? Any suggestions? We are located in CT
--------------------
This company is the nations largest dental and medical benefits provider. The great thing about it is the monthly fee for dental is just $5 a week for the entire household! Very affordable for businesses. Also, they are very flexible. The employer can choose to pay all, part, or none of the premiums for their employees. If you want the employees to pay for it, you just deduct from their pay check. Your employees will save hundreds on dental procedures like cleanings, fillings, checkups, braces, crowns, implants and much more! You can also add medical for just $5 more. Check them out at the website below or email me at chandracox@ameriplan.net good luck!

Can you get Medicare at age 65 if you have health insurance at work?

Amy still working full-time
--------------------
Yes, but medicare will be the primary coverage, with your job's insurance as the secondary. You'll just have to make sure you go to a doctor/provider who accepts both.

What can be done for families that can't afford health insurance?

Who will address this-Obama or McCain?
--------------------
Obama seems to be more interested in helping in this area than McCain. Let's hope someone does. The health care situation in this country is shocking. Did you know that among the developed nations of the world only America and South Africa, do not provide some kind of health care for the masses?

What is the best option for personal health insurance?

I am recently coming to the end of my COBRA 18 month policy that I took after ending my last job. I am my own boss, and I am wondering how to go about seeing which providers would be a good fit. I currently have Blue Cross/ Blue Shield. Is there a way to keep the same policy and just pay a normal premium?
--------------------
ehealthinsurance is a good place to see what is available but don't buy from them unless you like talking to people in a call center. Call a local agent that works with all the major companies; you'll get the same rates, you'll get the same office each time you call and you'll get personalized service. Also, if you have any pre-existing conditions or are out of the normal height and weight guidelines the agent will be able to find the company that will accept you and that will have the best coverage for your situation. ehealth just submits your application and they don't worry if it gets declined.

Do I need to disclose I've had an abortion when applying for health insurance?

Am I likely not to get coverage because of it?
--------------------
Ignore Mimi. People are ignorant. In answer to your question, almost certainly not... I've had to fill out several health insurance questionnaires, and the most intimate question I've ever been asked is "Do you smoke?" Having had an abortion is quite irrelevant to how much you will cost an insurer, so they don't care. You have NO legal obligation to say "I've had an abortion" if not asked. You're generally obligated to discuss pre-existing conditions. This is not one.

Is there a lowere health insurance option out there?

My wife works for Aetna and our insurance is like $175/month for the 2 of us. Is that a decent price? Or could we get it lower somewhere else even though she works for aetna?
--------------------
There is the price of the benefit and there is the value of it. It is invaluable to be with Aetna since you work for Aetna! They will treat you nice if the coverage is needed!

Is there really a "mandate" to buy health insurance in the bill?

If you don't buy insurance, you will just be charged a tax penalty. It is perfectly legal to not have insurance and to pay the penalty if you choose to do so. So why is the media calling it a "mandate"? Wouldn't "incentive" be a better word?
--------------------
Because if you don't pay the excise tax, you're jailed. It's not like our jails aren't overcrowded, or anything, and I object to jailing people for refusing to buy a product or pay the ridiculous penalty fee, when in ideology, there should BE no penalty fee for having the right to decline.

Explain how forcing me to pay for health insurance and fining me if I don't will help my financial situation?

The following statement was in a newspaper: "The VA hospital charges me $24 for a three-month supply of medicine. I can get the same thing at a retail pharmacy for $10. What's up with that?" With that in mind.. are we really going to trust the government to regulate all of our healthcare? Seems like a very bad idea to me.
--------------------
I think you are very smart for looking into this. I think all consumers will still have to review everything should the Government regulate a better health care service for everyone. I think their target is to help the elderly as well as people who are under insured and with no insurance at all. I think it's a great idea but there is always fine print somewhere that you will have to look out for. People will have to do their homework and review exactly what they will be offered. This is a very good question and you brought up a good point. Hope my point of view helped.

I work p/t will I b forced 2 purchase health insurance-since the bill passed?

Also my husband is unemployed.
--------------------
The bill hasn't passed. You're in the clear for now.

why we need to buy health insurance ? our govt. is more than enough taxing us, is it not true ?

i think we should ask politicians to pay more taxes as they enjoy enormous perks. no govt. should force us to buy health insurance...that's Govt's responsibility. is it not ?..thanx...SANAT.
--------------------
The Government was not designed to provide health care. It IS NOT the governments job. It is unconstitutional what the current government is attempting with health care. If you want health care you should buy it yourself. Though I believe health care should be a personal choice and if you don't have it and get sick or hurt you must sign an agreement to pay for medical services. basharr.wordpress.com

The repubs finally rolled out a health insurance alternative today.?

So what is the big hurry? They haven't tried to fix it in the last 50 years, why the urgency.
--------------------
LMFAO The republicans have a coherent health care alternative? Hahahahaha wait until it is made public - it will be a series of incoherent ideas to tweak this and go back to the way things were with that...reactionary bullshit, which actually will not change anything, like the Republicans always, always do. if it weren't for the Democrats, the Republicans NEVER WOULD HAVE DONE A THING WITH HEALTH CARE....why? Because they actually think it is FINE. HAHAHAHAHAHA

Are those of you who have employer paid health insurance willing to pay?

$2000 to $3000 more a year in income rax so those people without health insurance can get a tax break?
--------------------
Actually I think you misinterpreted the plan. Those with employer provided insurance or those who are able to provide for their own insurance needs would see a tax break. The problem with his plan as I see it is that it would do nothing to help the poor who are uninsured. Example: With my contributions and my employers the total comes to about 6000 a year for my family. This 6000 would become taxable income under the President's plan, but I would get a 15,000 dollar tax break. So basically I would be able to write off an additional 9000 in income from my yearly gross. Thus I would get a tax break. Those people who have employer sponsored health plans would fair well so long as the total amount of the contributions is below 15,000 for a family or 7,500 for an individual. However, people who do not have sponsored plans and are already living either at or beyond their means will not be able to add additional costs for self insurance simply with the goal of getting a larger tax return at the end of the year. Therefore there is no real benefit to the poor.

How much do you think requiring health insurance companies to provide you with free preventitive care visits?

will save you on your monthly bill? How can Obama declare that you get to see a doctor for free? http://www.cnn.com/2010/POLITICS/03/15/h…
--------------------
This is no different than any other of Obama's gift of accounting. There is no way that his plan will save money. Even with Medicare, he wants to cut the benefits to save the system, but intends on spending those cuts in other programs. There is no way you can spend the same dollar twice. His scheme is going to finish off the economy and push us into depression and then bankruptcy. Time to get to it and start making changes in our government. November 02, 2010 gives the voters an opportunity to change 100% of the House and 1/3 of the Senate. Voters, get the vote out and choose well. Get out, vote out.
