Should the USA have Universal Health Insurance plan administered by the government?

Every other industrialized country has such a plan. Don't drag out the Canada excuse. Most Canadians overwhelmingly approve of their program. 16% of Americans have no coverage while private insurance company executives are paid $75million or more including stock options
--------------------
Yes. I live in Canada, and can speak with more authority that someone whose grandparents lived in Canada for a while. I would MUCH rather wait for a medical procedure, than find out that my insurance company refuses to pay for it. Private insurance companies don't give a flying fart about your health, whereas government has a vested interest in your health. Insurance companies can far too often find a loophole in your policy that allows them to say, "No, we won't pay for your life-saving heart surgury." That way, they make gobs of money! You paid them, then they don't pay you! What a scam. Under a government-run system, you will get the surgury, regardless. It pressures the government to take health more seriously when they have to pay for it. No doctor ever has to turn away a patient due to the patient's financial status. When Canadians are sent to the US, the government still pays for it. So we still get the care we need, even if we need to go somewhere else. Yes, there are weaknesses in Canada's plan, with wait times being the most significant. Emergencies are dealt with quickly, but non-emergencies usually have long waits. But given the choice between care waited for or care denied, I'll take the wait!

Is there Health Insurance that covers only Medical Tests & Hospitalization?

I lost my Insurance back in August. Cobra is way too expensive and just wanted to know if there was a Company that covers only Medical Tests and Hospitalization.

Where can I find affordable health insurance with no waiting period for maternity coverage?

We're residents of Virginia, but use a doctor and hospital in North Carolina, and can't seem to find a thing. Doesn't need to pick it up as a pre-existing condition. Ehealthinsurance.com didn't find a thing for us. Any help is appreciated.
--------------------
You will never find a private plan that covers maternity. And if it did, it would be so expensive that you're better off paying cash. Insurance companies know that if you try to get maternity insurance that you are going to...duh...get pregnant. Group health is your only option I'm sorry to say. But do tell your doctor that you don't have insurance, and he/she will probably reduce your office visit payment. And you should also start putting some money toward the delivery. Good luck!

Can your spouse legally cancel you and dependents from health insurance policy.?

There are no legal papers and during open enrollment my spouse who I am separating from canceled me and our four dependents from insurance without notifying me during open enrollment; understand this is legal to do. However, because he did not notify me, I have now missed my 30 period to apply for benefits at my current employer leaving me with no coverage until open enrollment next year. Is this an appropriate action? Would he have to notify me?
--------------------
Yes. During open enrollment, the plan subscriber - your spouse - can choose which, if any, dependents they keep insured, or drop. YOU don't get entitled to any notification, as YOU are not the plan subscriber. Is it appropriate? No, it shows that your marriage is in crisis, that you're not talking about that kind of stuff. That's a bigger problem than not having health insurance, IMO.

Have you ever been denied health insurance coverage because you are a woman?

I was watching Nancy Pelosi make the final argument for health-care reform when she said something like, "People will no longer be denied coverage for the precondition of being a woman." I'm just wondering if this has really happened to you or someone you know.
--------------------
If a woman is the victim of domestic violence, has had a Cesarean or even has been pregnant, it is usually considered a preexisting condition. Women are charged more than men for the same coverage. Insurance companies in most states are allowed to charge a business more for coverage if it employs women.

Do you think obese people should pay more for health insurance?

To be classified as obese you have to have a BMI of ...I believe it's over 24. That means that if you're a woman and are 5'4 and 160 pounds and over or a man 6'0 and 200 pounds and over.

does any body know if there is health insurance costing less than 20 dollars for international students in US?

i am an international student in the US an i am in a desperate need of a health insurance that costs less than 20 dollars to get rid of the my schools health insurance. i would take any type of response so don't hesitate a single bit thanks
--------------------
Less than $20 a month? No. You won't find legitimate health insurance coverage of any sort for less than $20 a month. A perfectly healthy young person may be able to get a plan with a relatively high deductible/out of pocket cost for over $50 a month. Anything less than $20 a month is a scam, and would likely never pay out a single claim for you.

Why would health insurance rates vary from state to state?

I live in the mid-west and did a quote for a plan here. Then I did the same quote for another state I used to live in and the prices were very different. Same plan - different state....what give?
--------------------
Insurance Biz is correct. It also depends on the amount of people in the state that makes up the "pool". California and Texas have more population and that can bring down the costs as well.

Where can I find cheap health insurance now that I have lost my job?

I can;t afford all the major companies.
--------------------
~~It all depends on the State you live in. Best and cheapest way to go is to look for a major medical policy and Blue Cross/Blue Shield has some as well as Aetna. These type of policies have a higher deductible than what you will be use to, with very little if any regular doctor visit coverage. However, you will get medication coverage and major medical (hospitalization, testing). You can get one with good health for very reasonable premiums, a $4,000.00 annual out of pocket cap, and still have prescription coverage. My son is paying $53 a month, which is amazing. He is 25, excellent health and lives in California. All these things will affect the premium (your state the most).~~

What health and dental insurance companies does Waste Management use?

Just got hired on as a residential driver with Waste Management and start soon. What I need to know is: what insurance companies does Waste Management use for their health and dental plans? Are they very good plans, or not? I haven't gotten a straight answer anywhere else on the net, so this seems to be a forum of knowledgable individuals.
--------------------
It undoubtedly varies by state. Waste Management operates nationally. If you're going to be a union driver, those benefits may be provided through the union rather than directly by the company.

My husband is 57 and diabetic. If I lose my health insurance at work what should I buy to replace it?

We live in Massachusetts but are thinking of moving to Florida so I will lose my job sponsored coverage. Cobra will be over $1000 per month but we need it, especially the prescription drug coverage.
--------------------
I would look into this very closely before you make that move. Most insurance companies will not cover ANYTHING for a pre-existing condition. Period. My daughter is having the same issues with her heart condition and degrading kidneys. Could you not talk to your company's current insurance carrier, and see if they would allow you to transfer your coverage to a private account when you leave your employment? It is worth the time to ask anyway.

My mother is 73, lives in Peru but wants to live here, where do I purchase health insurance for her?

She has diabetes, glaucoma and high blood preasure. She is all by herself in Peru and visits us often. She would move with me if she knew that she has health insurance. My brothers and I can buy one but I do not know where to start. I live in Fl and my brothers live in NY.
--------------------
First, how are you getting her here? As an immediate relative, you can sponsor her for permanent residency, if you are a citizen or a permanent resident yourself. Otherwise she's just a tourist who has outstayed her visa. Once she has that permanent residency, since she is elderly, you should look into the rules for Medicare. Since she is not in the Social Security system, there would be a monthly premium. These are about $300/month from what I am told (not first hand knowledge) Good luck!

Approximately how much would it cost me to buy health insurance for myself not through my work?

I live in Louisiana and have no serious medical issues. I don't know which medical plan to use. I've looked at Blue Cross so far.
--------------------
It depends on your age, your health, your location, the provider, what type of insurance you want... a lot of things. This is something that's highly personal and can't be answered by some dude, sitting in his underwear, online. =D Expect to spend, at least, $100/month for an OK plan. Get a list of all the local providers and go to their sites. It's going to be a ***** - confusing, time consuming, frustrating - but you'll be happy you did it.
