if a company does not offer health insurance does it still have to post the latest rulings on HIPAA?

Company very small --only 3-4 employees. Paid for a big state/fed poster in July. Now the company wants additional $ to pay for HIPAA Security Notice Poster. We do not offer health insurance. Do we need to get the updated poster. How can I get free copy of 2009 DOL Equal Employment Opportunity Notice? I cannot afford to keep paying for these updated posters--even if it is only $13.00 each. Just do not have the extra $.

Will my employer know the details of my health problem if they are the people paying for my health insurance?

I have health insurance with Aviva. My company pays for all it's employees health insurance. I'm am curious that if I make a claim, will my employers find out what the details of my health problem? Say for example u had a minor embarassing problem would my employers find out what it is if I am claiming treatment for it under the insurance?
--------------------
Well yes and no. Somebody that works for the company will have to process the claim. You may know this person, but hopefully you wont. If this persson shares your information for any other reason than business then that person can go to jail. Companys have HIPPA regualtions to regulate all of this kind of stuff.

Would it violate my constitutional rights to force me to buy health insurance.?

I am 30 years old with no health problems. When I get sick or hurt, which is not often; I go to the local urgent care, doctors office, or emergency room. I have made about 6 visits over the past ten years, so it is much cheaper for me to purchase my health care as I need it, instead of consistently paying for health insurance. Would it be legal for the federal government to force me to purchase health insurance?
--------------------
There is a right wing school of thought that the 10th amendment would prohibit it, but legally, they don't have a case. This legal battle was lost a long time ago and it has since been proven that the US Government has the right to tax and make laws that cost people and companies money.

Want to help with CA legislation to make sure health insurance provides maternity/pregnancy coverage?

I am working on a bill in the California State Legislature to close a loophole in the law that is allowing some health insurance companies to sell policies that don't provide pregnancy care. If you've been in this situation (insured and pregnant without maternity coverage) and would like to share your story and help pass the bill to help other moms and families, please get in touch. Thanks!
--------------------
I think this is wonderful frankly. I quit a job when I read the health insurance policy. The owner of the small company was done having kids so saw no reason to continue carrying maternity coverage for his employees. 5 other employees quit after I did for the same reason (one had a wife who was already pregnant- big surprise for HIM).

Can you explain the fundamental differences between health insurance and health care?

If America was provided universal health insurance, how would that affect healthcare?
--------------------
Health insurance is meant to fund you if you need healthcare. In the USA the (un)insurance companies use death panels to deny care. The reforms are intended to end that, and make insurance mandatory. The right though spread lies and half truths about the reforms. If all have to take up insurance, and the insurance companies are not allowed to refuse treatment, then all will have access to both emergency and preventative healthcare. It surprises me that so many Americans seem not to be aware about Obama's healthcare plans [a]. During the election, he campaigned for these changes stating that he felt it was unfair to have a system where insurance companies try to escape paying claims and was elected to bring in changes [b]. First of all, too many people do not know that Obama wants to make insurance more available to all. His system is similar to that which works in Holland, Taiwan [c] and Switzerland. It works there and private healthcare companies provide most the insurance to the people there. FACT - the USA spends more on healthcare PER PERSON than any other nation on the planet [d]. FACT – insurance companies admit that they push up costs, buy politicians and do not pay out for many claims when they should [e]. FACT - the US has higher death rates for kids aged under five than western European countries with universal health coverage [f]. That means that a dead American four year old would have had a better chance of life if they were born in Canada, France, the Netherlands, Cuba, Switzerland, Germany, Japan etc, all of which have universal health coverage. And no western European nation with universal healthcare has moved away from it. And the sad thing is, that the insurance companies have spent loads of money to fight these reforms [g] and loads of politicians are taking the thirty pieces of silver from them to fight the reforms, rather than fight for the health of the American people. Remember, I back my facts up with evidence. Those who say they are wrong tend not to. If they are wrong, e-mail me with proof and let me know.

How can a married (and pregnant) couple get great health insurance in Massachusetts?

We make pretty decent money but they rob you of whatever money you saved for rent! I don't wanna deal with losing so much money and the fact that a baby is in the mist kinda gets me itchy. Again How do I get the best health insurance for my family? If not me then Only her and the baby?
--------------------
The cost of living in MA is a bit high (believe me, I know, we live in Boston) but we do have great health insurance available to us with maternity coverage as well as infertility coverage from most plans. I would check with your employer - we are through Blue Cross/ Blue Shield New England. Good luck!

How do I get health insurance?

Im a 22 year old college student but im no longer covered on my parents health insurance. I hate not being covered, and I want to find my own health insurance. My job offers it, but it is really expensive, and as I said im a young college student who already has tons of bills. Any ideas how I can get good, inexpensive health insurance? Anyone know where to even start looking? Thanks!
--------------------
If you are in college, you may want to check out health insurance programs that are written through your school. United Healthcare has a plan available at many US schools. These student injury and illness plans provide wide ranging coverage and are designed to be affordable for college students. To check if your school is participating, go to www.UHCSR.com and enter your school name in the search box. You might also be interested in joining the American College Student Association (ACSA), a national organization for college students. They have lots of member benefits, including student health insurance. Their membership fee is affordable.

What the hell does it mean "You are required to have health insurance" or be fined?

If I can't afford health insurance, how on earth do they expect me to pay their fines? "You are required to have health insurance. If you don't, you will pay a tax penalty of $695 per year up to a maximum of three times that amount ($2,085) per family or 2.5 percent of household income." My income covers my rent and not much else... What the hell am I supposed to do?
--------------------
You,me and millions of other people.Interesting the fine is in the form of a tax.Try fighting the IRS much less the government. Why wasn't this bill put up for a vote?Anything that effects us should be our choice in the democratic process. EDIT Stephen, the point is there should not be a fine for making a personal choice. That is what the people are saying. If Obama wants to pass a health care bill, that's fine but don't penalize people who can't afford it or use an agency that can seize your property and put us in prison.Of the people,by the people and for the people. Most can't afford the 2.5%,most can't pay their rent or feed their families and putting it off til 2014 won't make any difference.

How do I cancel me health insurance?

My husband recently enrolled in athem health insurance through his job. Since then we have found out that he will be leaving his job to enlist in the military and we also will not be able to afford to live with them taking so much for the insurance. The policy does not go into effect until January 1. How do I cancel the insurance before the policy takes effect.
--------------------
It is very doubtful that you will be able to cancel. If the company has a pretax health care plan, you cannot change or cancel it during the year, unless a qualifying event occurs. When your husband enrolled he would have authorized this. When your husband leaves the job, that will be considered a qualifying event and at that time, you can cancel the insurance.

Why do we pay for health insurance?

I keep hearing more and more stories about health insurance companies refusing to pay for a procedure for various reasons like "it's experimental", and etc. So why do we even pay for health insurance, if they won't help us out with the more expensive procedures anyway? Or just the fact that they could deny us at any time as they please? I understand there's smaller but still expensive procedures, but I'd be better off putting my own money away for things like that. I just don't get it. Anyone?
--------------------
Well, first off, your assumption that they can "deny you any time as they please" is incorrect. Health insurance is a tightly regulated industry with very specific criteria and rules to follow. A person might not *like* it if they can't get covered for something that they want, but it doesn't mean that the denial was on a whim either. Generally, Medicare sets the standard for whether or not a new type of medical procedure is considered "experimental" or "investigational." (Meaning that if Medicare decides to allow the procedure, eventually most other private insurers make the decision to allow it too.) And that information is available well in advance of you deciding to have something done...each insurer has a specific Corporate Medical Policy (or whatever their company term is for it) about any procedure you could ever want done. And you as an insured member or any of your doctors have a right to see the policy *before* you have the procedure done. Some of the companies put the info right out for public viewing on the web, others will make the info available to you if you ask for it. Here's an example for one insurance company for one procedure. (Again, all insurance companies have documents like these for various procedures. Just using this one as an example.) http://www.medmutual.com/provider/MedPol… Right in this document, it tells you/your doctor what medical criteria you would need to meet to have coverage for this service, and it tells you that you need prior approval for the service. If your doctor demonstrates that you meet the critiera in the policy, then you get approved. If you fall under a grey area where you're close but not quite, they might request more documentation from your doctor. If you clearly don't meet the criteria, then you get denied. Pretty cut and dried. Now, I'm not saying that people are going to necessarily *like* the criteria they are being evaluated against, but that still doesn't mean that things are being denied "any time as they please" either. People need to be proactive in their medical care and find out about their rights/responsibilities *before* making decisions regarding planned medical care. (planned as in non-emergency situations) If you feel your insurer has made a decision in error, you have the right to see the medical critiera (Corporate Medical Policy document, or whatever your insurer calls it) that you were evaluated against, you have the right to see what medical records of yours were used as the basis of the decision, etc. Again...be proactive. (Aside from adding that info about how decisions are made, I agree w/what mbrcatz said about health insurance being a financial tool, etc.)

My father is not in the best health and needs health insurance and life insurance, how can I help with this?

He is in his late 50s and has not been taking good care of himslef. He has high blood pressure, but does not keep up with his doctor appointments. He lives with my sister and her husband, but they cant make him go. He works for a company that does not have medical benefits, or life insurance coverage for their employees. He will not leave this employer. What can I do to get him cheap (but good) health insurance, and also life insurance? He wont pay for his life insurance, and if I want to get it on him, I will have to pay it myself -I can't afford anything much - but I need to have something on him to cover basic costs if something should happen to him.
--------------------
It won't be hard to get health insurance, but it won't cover any pre-existing conditions. For a man in his late 50's, it will probably run $400 a month - that's cheap, for health insurance, for his age. Life insurance is easier. If you're willing to pay enough for life insurance, you can insure someone on their death bed. You only have to pay face value plus 10%, and ANY company will write it. If you don't want to pay face value, then you're looking at "going rates", and it's going to be very, very expensive - possibly 10% of face value per year. It would probably be cheaper to just bank the money. In either case, you'll have to shop around to a local insurance agent, for quotes on both.

How do you go to the doctor if you do not have health insurance?

I am working but I do not have Health Insurance. How do you go and where do you go to the doctor if you do not have health insurance?
--------------------
There are some free or low cost clinics if you qualify. If not then you would have to pay cash. We have a low cost clinic in my area that we use. It cost $40.00 per visit plus test if needed. I understand how you feel. We don't have insurance either. It is just not affordable.

Do I get tax credit for paying my own health insurance?

I made only 10k last year, but paying $1,300 for my health insurance
--------------------
Hello, CP! You cannot get a credit, but you can claim the payments as an itemized deduction on Schedule A as long as they were not paid pre-tax out of your paychecks. Remember, though, that this will only help you if your total itemized deductions exceeded your standard deduction ($5,150 for Single/Married Filing Separate, $10,300 for Married Filing Joint). If you only made $10,000 last year, I'm guessing that you don't have enough itemized deductions to worry about it. Check out the link below if you still want details on the itemized deduction option. Good luck! :-)

Can you get state health care in Ohio for a child while you carry insurance for yourself?

Hubby is laid off. I can afford health insurance for myself to cover my medications, but I cannot afford it for all of us and my child is a pretty healthy four-year old girl
--------------------
You can apply for it. If your household income is low enough, then she can get coverage - HOWEVER, she'll have to be uninsured for six months first, before she qualifies for welfare health insurance.

WHY is Obama pushing so hard to force every American to buy health insurance?

Do those people who hope this bill passes realize that they will need to begin paying for health insurance, and if they don't, do they know that Pelosi said that going to jail 'would be appropriate?'
--------------------
Health care wouldn't be such an issue if in the past we could have crossed state lines to buy it causing more competition and thus lowering the costs for everyone, thus more people could have been insured, thus lowering the costs for everyone. Obama had several very easy and cost effective ways to go about reform, but he wanted socialized medicine, he wanted to do in one fell swoop what hasn't been able to get done over the past several decades of trying. We don't need nor do we want healthcare reform, we want insurance reform and less government intervention in our lives. Pelosi is evil incarnate!

I need to be seen for depression but don't have health insurance. Where do I go for help?

I've been really depressed for about 2-3 months straight. It's becoming unbearable and I need to get to a doctor. But without health insurance, how can I get the help I need without going broke?
--------------------
Every county has a health department, and most have a department of mental health, too, where you can get psychiatric help as well as ongoing psychotherapy. They will screen you for financial eligibility, and will have a sliding scale for payment. Who knows; you may be eligible for free services, or even Medicaid if you have minor children and meet the financial requirements. Good luck-- I totally empathize with the way depression paralyzes a person. Hang in there!

Why should carrying health insurance be a choice?

Why all the uproar about being forced to buy health insurance? I don't get it. I am forced to buy car insurance by the government. Why is there not the same disdain towards that? I would bet that 99% of the people who "choose" to not be insured couldn't afford their medical bills if they were to have a heart attack or be diagnosed with cancer. I would like to know how those people feel they should be treated. Who should pick up your bill? According to them, it shouldn't be the government because the government has no business in your healthcare. So, who should foot the bill when you are uninsured and need medical help?
--------------------
All of the folks saying that you can choose not to drive are posing a distinction without a difference. A parallel would be that if you chose never to use a hospital, then you don't need insurance. That's not going to happen, and by law they are required to treat you in the emergency room if you come in seeking treatment, so the argument has no merit.

I don't have health insurance, how can I go about getting a physical?

I just got admitted to the nursing program and one of the requirements is a general physical done by a NP or physician. I can't afford health insurance. Is there somewhere I can go to pay for one?
--------------------
Most doctors are very understandable when it comes to people's finances. When you call your doctor, explain to them your situation, ask how much it will cost and simply ask them if they can put you on a payment plan of some sorts. My last dentist appointment, I had to pay in two payments and they had no problem... It was my first time seeing this one too... so just ask, I'm sure you'll find it isn't as bad as you think.
