Graduating from college and need affordable health insurance. Suggestions Please?

I'm graduating from college in Chicago this year. My parents are kicking me off their insurance. Does anyone have any suggestions for affordable health insurance?
--------------------
State Farm, in my experience, has some of the best options through Assurant. If you're willing to start your own insurance before you graduate you can use their Student Select program and that will continue after graduation. If you have a job set up where you will get benefits then you can use State Farm's short term policies until you start. If neither of these are the right option for you, there are plenty of other plans that the agent can help you search to find the right coverage at the right price. The number is 888-323-7070

Which health insurance is good and better in California?

Deciding from this health insurance Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross of California, Kaiser Permanante.
--------------------
Blue Cross might actually be cheaper than the other options because it's a local company. Aetna offers specific doctor by a cheaper cost (ask if you're in their Aexcel network range) and has incredible online support and preventive medicine tools. Kaiser is also great, but their network may be a bit more limited tha Blue Cross and Aetna.

Anybody know anything about health insurance?

I have a very good friend who is turning 60 years old in January. His costs on the health insurance he has now are going high sky. He owns his home and truck so, would he be able to get on food stamps for the time being? Or ACCCS? I believe that is called Medicaid? in other parts of the country. He is in financial trouble right now. I would greatly appreciate it if someone would be willing to answer this question.
--------------------
It appears that you are not getting an answer because this is not really an insurance question. Yes, insurance for somebody turning 60 can be expensive. Medicaid is a social program, funded by the State and Federal Government, not insurance. In order to qualify, you must pass an income/asset test. I believe that the same may be true for food stamps. My suggestion would be for your friend to contact a local social services agency or agency for the aged. May want to start at your town/city hall. Many Americans are finding themselves in a position that they have never experienced before. He is not alone and their is help available. Good luck.

Who do you have Health Insurance through?

We are looking for a new health insurance provider and trying to get feedback from different people on various companies. Who do you have and what do you like and dislike about them? How much is your deductible.. how much do you pay a month/qtr/ or year? How many people are covered? Right now we are with Anthem... $1500 deductible.. 2 adults, 1 child, we were paying 289 per month but they just raised it this month to 334. The only thing anybody has been to the doc for is for the pregnancy.
--------------------
That's dirt cheap. Normally, you can't get maternity benefits through a private policy. Normally, family coverage costs about $1,000 a month, with a $250 deductible. Info on MY plan isn't going to do you any good, as you won't be able to get on MY plan. It's through my husband's employer. It's with CIgna, and Cigna offers about 12 different plans, just in Texas (where we live). Your best bet is to visit a local agent who can get you several quotes, and compare coverages.

Are the Republican platform goals of no education for and no health insurance for the poor good for Americans?

no education means more jail time. so we are building jails instead of schools. no health insurance for 50 million costs us anyway. these Republican ideas serve no purpose like the Republican party platform and their war in Irak. the Irak war will cause Hillary to raise taxes to pay for it.

not other Americans fault that people choose to stay poor in America

Could you answer this health insurance question?

I recieved a health insurance bill post surgery. It gives me: 1. Submitted charges- 3,000 2. Ineligible amount- 2,000 3. Deductible applied- $0.00 4. Covered amount- 1,000 5. Rate 6. Benefit- 900.00 What does the benefit mean? Do I have to pay anything out of pocket?
--------------------
It appears to me to be this; The hospital submitted a bill for $3000. The PPO payment agreement for this procedure is $1000, so the hospital has have to write off the $2000 that is considered ineligible. That leaves a charge of $1000. The insurance company paid $900 toward that, so you now owe $100 to the hospital. Since none was applied toward your deductible, I have to assume you had a $100 co-pay for this procedure.

If you have no health insurance, how much will a physical exam cost?

My boyfriend needs to get his learner's permit. We live in the state of Pennsylvania, so you need a physical done within a year before you try to take the test. He has no health insurance and he is only 17 years old. How much do you think a physical exam would cost him? I'd be happy to hear any helpful words.
--------------------
I live in the state of michigan and without insurance. It runs about $25.00 to get a physical done at a normal doctors office or med-express. It should be around the same price in Penn. If you really need to know, just call up some doctors offices and ask them what a physical runs without insurance. They have standard rates that they can tell you. Hope I helped!

Is it legal for a company to not give me my health insurance after telling me I would get them when hired?

I started a new job in August. I was told that I would be elgible for health insurance after 60 days. I have now been there for over 90 days and still they will not give me the paperwork to fill out to get enrolled. I have asked daily for the past month, asked for numbers to call to get the paperwork myself and still nothing happens. I have spoken to another manager who himself is uninsured after working for the company for 2 years. What can I do?
--------------------
health insurance does not have to be offered as a benefit but if it is....in many states it must be offered according to a written policy and the policy must be followed. many states do not regulate this issue at all but a few do so knowing where you are would make a huge difference. if the state does not regulate how the insurance is offered and you feel that you are not being treated fairly due to being part of a protected group then the EEOC could be of assistance. for general information about health benefits: http://www.dol.gov/compliance/topics/ben… for information concerning discrimination: http://www.eeoc.gov What can I do? talk one last time with your supervisor then talk to someone in HR if they refuse to answer you or address your concerns then contact your states department of labor. if the department of labor does not regulate this issue then there is nothing to do unless you feel discrimination is involved. if you feel discrimination is involved you can go the EEOC route.

Would withdrawing from a class take my dependent health insurance away?

I am currently taking 12 credits in order to be eligable to be under my dads health Insurance. My question is...Does the insurance company call and confirm the form filled out by the registrars office, and would the insurance company ever know if i withdrawed from a class making me only have 9 credit hours. Would my insurance get taken away from withdrawing from a class??
--------------------
~~They will ask for proof at every renewal of the premium. They are allowed to check you status at any time and you must provide the proof. You are taking a big risk if you drop the class. Say you had a medical problem, used the insurance, then they requested your current status, you would be immediately uninsured. It's not a chance I would want to take.~~

what is the average cost of individual health insurance?

i have to get my own plan b/c i will not be eligible to be covered by my parents any more. im just looking to see what companies are good and how much health insurance will cost me. i will probably need some good coverage as i am a hardcore mountain biker (crashes are inevitable)
--------------------
It's not really possible to give you an average dollar amount without more information. But it's easy to find out what's available in your area. Talk to a licensed agent who represents more than one insurance company, or get free quotes online through a site like eHealthInsurance.com, where I work. Health insurance options and prices can vary widely between one state and the next. Your monthly premiums may also depend on your age, health, and which part of the state you live in. If you're fairly young and healthy, however, you may have some surprisingly affordable options. You'll also need to think about what kind of coverage you want. For example, do you visit the doctor often or use prescription drugs? If so, you may be willing to pay a bit more for your monthly premium in order to have a lower deductible. (The deductible is the amount you have to pay out of pocket before your insurance coverage kicks in.) But if you rarely go to the doctor and you just want something to cover you in case of serious illness or injury (wear your helmet!), a plan with a higher deductible and lower monthly premiums might be a good match. So talk to an agent to explore your options. It doesn't cost anything extra to work through an agent. You can talk with a licensed agent at eHealthInsurance.com by calling 1-800-977-8860. Good luck! Health insurance for a single male (43) with health issues and very low income. Who, what, and where?

My 43 yr old brother was just hospitalized with a minor stroke. High blood pressure is cause. He will need to be on prescribtion meds for the rest of his life. He has no health insurance, single, and makes a very low income. Where can he find a health care provider that will cover his meds that he needs to survive?
--------------------
I can relate. My Grandmother is in the same situation for a long time. HBP meds are expensive, especially when they need them to survive. I found this website, www.healthsavings.ourperfectcard.com They are extremely affordable, quick, and no gimmicks. I purchased the program for my Grandmother about 3 years ago and we have saved thousands from the benefits of Rx and more. I would encourage anyone in your/our situtation to visit the site, and see how they can help. Good Luck and God bless.

If Congress approves Obama's discretionary spending freeze, what is the future of health insurance reform?

The CBO reports that the health insurance bill currently in conference will cost somewhere between $900 billion and $1.2 trillion. Does the freeze only start AFTER this bill is signed into law? Or will there be some fuzzy math involved to exempt this from the freeze?
--------------------
The CBO will be pressured to say that the healthcare takeover is budget neutral, so it will be exempt from the freeze. Since Obama came in, the CBO is no longer an independent voice of analysis on Capitol Hill.

How can anyone who is older afford health insurance?

was just looking and comaparing plans, A 56 year old can get health insurance for $563 a month, $1,000 deductable, then 70% coverage thereafter and have a max. out of pocket of 5,000 who can afford that??
--------------------
it is not just older people, it is all Americans. The typical cost of health insurance for a family of four in the U.S. is over $13,000 a year. Throw in high deductibles for all four members and high co-pays and it is well over $15,000 a year to provide health insurance for your family. That is more than one fourth the average income in the U.S.

can i add my neice to my health insurance?

my sister doesn't have a job and of course her and her daughter doesn't have health insurance. she asked me to put her daughter on mine. i don't have a problem with this but can i actually do it?
--------------------
No, you can't add your niece to your health insurance policy just because her mom doesn't have health insurance. I work on dependent audits and can tell you that you'll almost certainly get caught eventually if you do this. In a dependent audit, you'll be asked for some combination of documents such as a copy of her birth certificate showing you as the parent, your most recent tax return showing that you claim her as a dependent, court documents showing that you are her legal guardian and/or are in the process of adopting her, school registration records showing that she resides at your address, etc. If you can't provide documentation for a dependent audit, best case scenario is that she'll just get dropped from the coverage. Worst case scenario is that they decide to penalize you for claiming an ineligible dependent...you could lose your job, you could be held liable for any medical expenses incurred by her, your company could choose to go after you for the share of premiums they paid on her behalf, etc. It is *not* worth getting caught and losing your job and/or getting prosecuted for fraud over. If your sister doesn't have a job, then your niece could be eligible for either Medicaid or the SCHIP program in your state. Your sister should check into that immediately - that way, your niece will have insurance and you won't get pressured into commiting fraud.

After marriage, can i still remain a dependent of my parents and use their health insurance?

My Peruvian fiance and I are thinking about getting married (only civil ceremony) now, in order to be able to have a religious ceremony in Peru next year and start working on getting his visa to the U.S. My only concern is that, if im legally married, I wont be able to be my parents dependent any more, and therefore loose my health insurance. If there is no way to get around that, we will have to wait to get married because Im 21 and a college student... and obviously need health insurance...
--------------------
No. Once you're married you're no longer a dependent. And getting coverage from your college is ridiculous advice. It's usually very expensive and horrible coverage.

Why does a family of 3 pay the same monthly health insurance premium as a family of 8?

Does this mean that small families are subsidizing the health insurance of large families?
--------------------
Well, in a small part, yes, however keep in mind 1. If you've got 6 kids, you're not going to rush to the doctor as quickly as if you have 1 kid. There's a major hassle factor, both in dragging 6 kids out, and sitting in the waiting room with 6 kids. and 2. in part, that's how ALL insurance works . . . the people with no/fewer claims subsidize the people with higher claims.

I too at one time needed some coverage when I was in college. I would stongly encourage you to visit this website: www.healthsavings.ourperfectcard.com I signed up over 5 years ago when I was in college, and they have saved me thousands since. From deep cleanings, xrays, fillings..etc. all services are included in this very affordable plan. Orthodontist and cosmetic surgery are also included. Medical, vision, Rx and more. They even had my benefits active in 2 hours and was able to use them the very same day. Good luck and hope this helps...

Concerning mandating the purchase of health care insurance are you aware that?

A direct and unconditional federal requirement for an individual to transfer money to a private party for health or economic purposes seems to be unprecedented. This is according to a legal think tank that is working on ways to defend the government if/when mandating health insurance goes to the supreme court. Legal Solutions in Health Reform is a project funded by The Robertrt Wood Johnson Foundation
--------------------
Its absolutely appalling to think that now we will be forced to buy insurance or be fined by our government. Car insurance is different since no one is required to own a car. There is no way to escape from a law that forces you to get health insurance. Its just one more step closer to tyranny. Whats next? Mandatory get out of bed at 5:30 and go to government run exercise classes? Mandatory drinking 8 -10 glasses of water a day or be fined? Follow the food pyramid or be fined? Where is freedom of choice? The answer is that the US will soon no longer be a free country. The government gets to call the shots on what is good for us and we will be forced to comply.

Proof of residency for health insurance purposes?

What qualifies as proof of residency for health insurance purposes? My boyfriend is moving to Iowa from Nebraska and has a pre-existing condition. He has been covered under health insurance in Nebraska his whole life but now wants to move to Iowa to gain residency prior to starting school here. In order to qualify for insurance in Iowa he needs to be a resident for 60 days. What will qualify as proof of residency? Does anyone know? THANKS!
