Is there really a "mandate" to buy health insurance in the bill?

If you don't buy insurance, you will just be charged a tax penalty. It is perfectly legal to not have insurance and to pay the penalty if you choose to do so. So why is the media calling it a "mandate"? Wouldn't "incentive" be a better word?
--------------------
Because if you don't pay the excise tax, you're jailed. It's not like our jails aren't overcrowded, or anything, and I object to jailing people for refusing to buy a product or pay the ridiculous penalty fee, when in ideology, there should BE no penalty fee for having the right to decline.

Would barry allow Blue Cross to sell health insurance where they CHARGE you for four years?

before delivering the healthcare services? Why does 0bamacare do that?
--------------------
It is the illusion of solvency, to compare 10 years of revenue with only 6 years of benefits. The "Progressive" above, if he has followed the health care debate at all, is quite aware that health care reform will have no beneficiaries until late 2013, and will pay substantially no benefits until 2014. How's that for "urgent?"

Coast Guard health insurance?

My husband is planning to join the Coast Guard. I was wondering, when does the health insurance for dependents start? Would it be when my husband started boot camp? Or after?
--------------------
It begins the day he is sworn in to leave for Cape May and begin his basic training.

Explain how forcing me to pay for health insurance and fining me if I don't will help my financial situation?

The following statement was in a newspaper: "The VA hospital charges me $24 for a three-month supply of medicine. I can get the same thing at a retail pharmacy for $10. What's up with that?" With that in mind.. are we really going to trust the government to regulate all of our healthcare? Seems like a very bad idea to me.
--------------------
I think you are very smart for looking into this. I think all consumers will still have to review everything should the Government regulate a better health care service for everyone. I think their target is to help the elderly as well as people who are under insured and with no insurance at all. I think it's a great idea but there is always fine print somewhere that you will have to look out for. People will have to do their homework and review exactly what they will be offered. This is a very good question and you brought up a good point. Hope my point of view helped.

Why does Health Insurance cover routine check ups?

I thought insurance was only for emergencies? That's like having car insurance cover your gasoline and oil too. How much gasoline would you be getting if your insurance covered it? But I guess the rising price of health insurance is just because Big Brother isn't watching over us better. Right?
--------------------
That is a good question and how it used to be. The coverage of routine exams has caused the demand for those services to rise sharply along with the cost. That is the number one reason that health care costs are so high..

Why do some Conservatives get so upset when you mention the 47000 that died due to no Health Care insurance?

When you mention this or Republican indifference to health care reform some Republicans have hissy fits! Is this some type of guilty conscious thing? Seems that Rep Grayson really spooked them with his speech?
--------------------
LMAO......now they have adapted to the charge and are rationalizing the number saying that people die every day. Well let me tell you something, 47000 died specifically because they could not get health care or coverage for treatment to things like Cancer or Heart disease. Now this number was not pulled out of my *** but it the Mayo Clinics estimate as well as other qualified people in medicine. Rationalize all you want but expect to be called out on it again by people like Grayson and now that other Libs feel empowered I think that they too will be calling them out! The Republican policy is DON"T GET SICK AND IF YOU DO DIE QUICKLY! Live with it since you are responsible for 47000 deaths!

Health insurance and chronic illnesses?

In the UK, Private Health Insruance does not cover chronic ilnesses, but the state healthcare does. In the US where there is just private medical care (aside from that for the poor or groups such as veterans) how do health insurance plans deal with chronic illnesses including ongoing medication?
--------------------
I have to pay a premium every month for the insurance and a co- pay on the medications- depending on if its generic or name brand. $15.00 for a 30 supply of generic or an 80/20 split on name brands. A lot has to do with the which insurance company one uses.

Is it possible to receive therapy without health insurance?

I periodically get thoughts of suicide going through my head and feel worthless because of unemployment. I experience feelings of happiness then maybe within the next week I feel depressed again. I have so many thoughts and fears in my head about my future also. Would I be able to see a therapist if I have no job or insurance? I live with my parents and sister but hardly talk to them because they can't understand or are of no help. Sometimes I pray to God for answers but I think therapy wouldn't hurt.
--------------------
Most places in the USA have some sort of state run or city run program for people in low income brackets. Google if for your location. good luck.

--------------------
Many companies in Arizona have discontinued child only policies in response to the health care bill and the rest will soon follow. However, there are a few companies still available. Contact a local agent that works with all of the major companies for assistance. The agent can find any available plans. Don't be afraid of a high deductible. First, many plans have doctor visits and prescriptions that are not subject to the deductible. Second, there are cost effective policies available that can cover that deductible in some cases.

Is there any point for a man in his early-mid twenties buying health insurance?

It looks like another $200-$300 or more per month that will make it harder to survive financially.
--------------------
Accidents are one reason to be insured...the other has to do with getting insurance after you find out you need it. In other words, say you're not insured. You go to the clinic because you don't feel good. They find something seriously wrong with you, like cancer. You know to get treatment will be mega expensive....so you go to get insurance. You can then be denied coverage of any pre-existing condition that you did not previously have insurance for. It's called creditable coverage. They can say, "yes, we'll insure you, but we won't pay for your cancer treatments for six months because you weren't insured for cancer before." I work in Employee Benefits....we help employers find the right insurance to offer their employees. We get asked about individual insurance quite a bit, too. If you don't go through an employer, try insurance.com to get started. Assurant/Fortis has decent plans, too. You claim to be healthy, but how do you know if you haven't gone to a doctor, which you're more likely to do if you don't have to pay full price. Definitely get insurance. Look for a higher deductible, but one that pays for office visits without having to meet that deductible first. Also, since you believe yourself to be healthy, the cheaper HMO plans would be better for you....HMO plans aren't generally as terrible as people think, IF you're healthy. The bad thing about HMOs is that they have what are referred to as gatekeepers...they are designed to tell you "no" to going to get your feet scraped and having acupuncture and the like. HMO means you have a pcp (primary care physician) and he refers you to other doctors if you need specialist, but, if you're healthy, you'll only need a pcp, and office visits are often free.

will my work health insurance cover me if i fight and as an amateur cage fighter?

i am looking to get into mixed martial arts (cagefighting) and i am curious about whether or not my insurance will cover me if i get hurt in a cage fight
--------------------
Some providers have "martial arts" and/or "boxing" insurance which covers professional and amateur events and training. I believe some event coordinators will also have medical and liability insurance to cover participants. In most cases, these insurance plans tend to supplement expenses that may not be covered by your primary provider, so it would not be a bad idea to consider getting specialized MA or boxing insurance.

Health Insurance in New York for children?

We are looking on how and where we can get short term insurance for our child. He is Canadian, daddy is a NY state resident, so our son has dual citizen. While we are now visiting the USA, our child needs to see specialist (doctors). Where do I begin, other than calling from the phone book.
--------------------
I will answer this one last time. The only coverage he can get is coverage under his father. He is not a resident even tho he is a citizen. He does not qualify for free health care. I would suggest you cut your trip short and take your son back to Canada where he can be treated.

If you could afford comprehensive private health insurance, would you take it?

Or say if you already have it. Thanks!
--------------------
It would depend on a person's health. A young healthy person could probably get away without Insurance for a while or a catastrophic insurance policy. While an older person or one with bad health would be wise to get whatever Insurance they can get. Some people may not qualify for Insurance, perhaps due to illness or the high cost of insurance. In that case a Discount Medical Plan could be a good affordable option.

I'm about to be declined for health insurance--do I have any legal rights to see what they have on me?

The agent informed me underwriting was going to deny my application, no reason given. She said people with my kinds of health problems usually got stuck with exclusions on covering certain pre-existing conditions but weren't totally denied. Do I have any consumer rights like I supposedly do with a credit bureau to see if there are errors, or has the insurance industry bought Congress so thoroughly they can do anything they please and keep everything secret?
--------------------
Yes, you have the right to find out why they denied you. Much like a credit report insurance companies use and report to the MIB (medical information bureau). The agent should have told you this, but they cannot disclose to the agent why due to the HIPAA laws. Write to the company, and they will provide your doctor the reason in some states. Some states they will send you a letter automatically. Then talk to your doctor as to what is in your medical records. Very often there is an error, someone else's records in your file, or a diagnosis that was unfounded and never reported as a non diagnosis. What type of insurance did you apply for. There are many companies that can offer you coverage that do not have pre-existing clauses as long as you are an average risk. Insurance agents are not happy with the HIPAA laws either, it is for clients protection but it ties our hands and helping our clients. Let me know if you need help locating this information. Susan

Looking Into Live Transfer Health Insurance Leads?

I am a licensed agent in California and have use live transfer health insurance leads through Prospect Zone. I was referred to a company called www.healthleadsnow.com who has a different method of producing live transfer health insurance leads. Does anyone have any experience with www.healthleadsnow.com? They seem very reasonable for the exclusive lead.
--------------------
Did your experience with Prospect Zone suck as bad as mine did? I'm also here in Cali and I couldn't be more disappointed with some of these so called "qualified" live transfers sources. Be wary - of all of them. It may seem ludicrous, but "shared" leads may very well be your best bet. Here's why: You're getting A LOT of tire kickers when you go with "exclusive" or "Live Transfer" leads. Take it from someone who has dropped big bills on many different lead types. Most people who transfer to you are just starting to look and the simple fact is that 50% of apps are completed after the fourth week of initial contact. Shared leads are always cheaper and usually older. In my humble opinion, older is better. Older leads are people who have finally gotten sick of looking around and they're ready to go. Besides, you're only sharing with an average of 2-3 other agents anyway. Be personable, be human - believe me you'll stand out and you'll clean up!!!
