As a seventeen year old living at home, is there anyway i could get health insurance on my own?

I live with both my parents and am constantly without medical care, everytime they finally put forth effort to het me coverage, I am quickly dropped and it takes multiple fights with them to get me back on a plan. Is there any way I could get my own coverage?

I'm changing the status of my job. What is the best supplemental health insurance?

Just wondering about Bluecross/Blueshield. I would also need short-term disability and long term as well. Any suggestions?
--------------------
There are 50 different BC/BS plans, one in each state, so it totally depends on what state you are talking about. In my state, its a pretty good plan with decent prices, but in other states it is really not that good. So, it completely depends. If you are moving away from an employer sponsored health plan where the employer subsidizes your premiums and you are headed into an individual plan, be prepared for a very large price increase. And it is a very very good idea to get both ST and LT disability policies, if you can afford them. They are relatively inexpensive compared to what you have to lose in income if you become disabled.

my mom told me about a new health insurance law where your children can stay on until they're 26?

does anyone know about this law? if you do, can you tell me the specifics of it? like, if they can only stay on if they're a full-time student, if they have a full-time job, etc. because i know before that you could stay on it until you're 19, or until you're 23 if you're a full-time student. thanks!
--------------------
Nope, it's not a law. Each insurance company is allowed to specify how long you can keep a kid on there. MOST of the time, it's until you turn 18, unless you're a full time student. If you're a full time student - either high school or college, or trade school, whatever, most of them will keep you on until you're between 23 and 26. IT VARIES BY COMPANY, not by state. And it isn't a law.

Health Insurance Question: How and for long do I get COBRA?

How does COBRA work? Is it offered if I quit or only if your fired?
--------------------
COBRA is offered anytime you are covered by an insurance through your employer and you stop working there. No matter if you quit or if you are fired. And you can have the coverage for up to 18 months. This will allow you to have the same insurance coverage you had when you were employed but the employer will no longer pay any part of your premium. You will be responsible for it in full. Usually this takes a few months to get straight with the insurance companies, but once it is they will pay your claims with no delays and no laps in coverage. If you allow your insurance coverage to laps, your next insurance can exclude conditions you were previously treated for and state they are pre-existing for up to 1 year after your coverage starts. This is why COBRA is important. Good Luck.

I have major pre-existing conditions so I'm not sure what route to take. I also have a small business. I thought that MN had a program where the carrier had to offer you continuing coverage after Cobra ended.

I am not gonna say that I am totally sure about the answer.it is really depending on the personal mind.thus it would better for you to try to find the best answer yourself. Here    www.HealthInsuranceIdeas.info    is a good resource for reference though.

Domestic Partner Health Insurance Question?

I have a question about having a domestic partner on my health insurance. I carried my domestic partner and his daughter on my plan, had to pay taxes on my benefits due to the domestic partner on it. When having a domestic partner on your health insurance in this country and having to pay taxes on it. Can I claim his daughter's medical bills on my taxes that I paid? For example, out of pocket I paid large bills of my domestic partner's medical bills. Can I claim them on my taxes as medical care bills or is that not allowed?

Since dems are forcing everyone to buy health insurance, what will Republicans force everyone to buy?

Dems are lining the pockets of their Wall Street buddies with 30 million new insurance customers. What will Republicans force every American to buy (or go to jail just like the dems are doing)?

Why would McCain promote a new tax on employer provided health insurance benefits?

I know he says he will give you a deduction or credit or whatever but isn't that just the Govt taking taxes out of your paycheck and giving it back to you a year or so later? Why do they want us to finance their overspending and craziness?
--------------------
The idea is to promote individual health insurance plans, and to discourage group plans. The thinking is that when the consumer is paying the insurance premiums, (s)he will gravitate towards lower cost policies. Consumer Driven Health Plans (CDHP's) specifically. Having a CDHP allows you to open up a Health Savings Account (HSA) where you, and your employer, can contribute non taxable money for future medical expenses. With these plans everything is subject to the deductible, except your annual wellness benefit, which used to be called your annual physical. You are expected to pay for all of your medical services out of your own pocket (your HSA) until you reach your deductible. This will demand a more conscientious consumer, bringing market forces to bear. It might also bring some transparency to health care costs, lowering the costs for everyone. Another factor is that with an individual policy, you own the policy, not your employer. Cobra, and it's limitations, goes away with individual policies. I think (don't hold me to this) another part of the plan is to open up the individual market across state lines allowing for more competition and consumer choice. The argument against CDHP's that people won't save for future expenses, and will also simply forgo minor or maintenance types of care which may require more expensive treatment down the road. I think both sides are right, and everyone agrees something has to change because what we have now isn't working. Don http://mtnhealthinsurance.com

Is there a government funded health insurance in CO?

In Wisconsin we have this program called badger care that offers health insurance to poorer people. do they have a program like that in Colorado? Im moving there and i need to figure that out quick fast and in a hurry
--------------------
Yes, Medicaid is available in every state, each state just calls it by a different name. Here is the website for CO: http://www.colorado.gov/cs/Satellite/HCP… check the eligibility on their website. Just because you were eligible in WI doesn't mean you are eligible in CO.

What's a good health insurance company?

I need to get prescription drugs and was wondering what is a good health insurance company.
--------------------
Depending upon what you are taking you may not be able to get a policy from any company since you have pre-existing conditions. The only way to tell which company is best for you is to work with a local agent that represents all of the major companies in your area. This is because you will need to tell the agent exactly what you are taking and what health condition you are taking it for, something you shouldn't tell on a public forum. The agent can then find out what companies will accept you and on what terms. Some companies will cover your meds for an increased premium, others will cover your meds after a waiting period while others may not cover your meds at all. You cannot do this on your own or over the internet. There is no extra charge using an agent.

Health insurance for retirees? We currently live in Hawaii and want to retire on the mainland, but...?

is it possible to get health insurance on the mainland as we would have to cancel our current carrier who only writes in Hawaii. For those who reside in Hawaii there is a HMSA 65C plus plan for those individuals who had a HMSA health insurance plan while working, but once they retire they can switch to their 65C Plus Plan. It's like a supplemental insurance to go along with your Part A and B. But you only get that if you have had insurance with them prior to retirement and then you transfer it over to their supplemental plan after you start collecting social security. I know in Oregon Providence Health Care has something similar, but again I belive only for those people who had insurance with Providence Health Care prior to retiring. Any suggestions?
--------------------
What state are you considering moving to? Because insurance is state specific, the only resources I can offer are pretty general. Check with AARP. They have decent gap plans all over the country. You can also check www.medicare.gov for a list of Medi-gap plans in your area.

Where does one go if you don't have health insurance but you need to see a doctor?

This person has very little money to spare. They would need to make payments. Who can I call? They need to see a dermatologist about suspicion of skin cancer.
--------------------
call around to different dermatologist and ask questions before you show up. find out how much a consultation will be. getting insurance will get you the discount office visits and discounted prices on the service. don't think that having insurance means you pay $0 for anything you have done, its just cheaper with insurance and you have a maximum if something really bad happens.

Health Net- Ever heard of it, and are they a good insurance company?

my husband and I need health insurance, like now! And the best plan we can get is with HealthNet, we just want some people's opinions about it. Thank you for all of your help.

Health Net is a very good company in my state. Their HMO is rated number 1 and their PPO is rated number 2. However, they are AMBest rated B++. This is the only non A rated carrier I will recommend to my clients.

How will letting health insurance companies operate across state lines affect healthcare?

Because now that all the credit card companies are allowed to operate from North Dakota, they're free to charge 79.9% interest rates and change the terms whenever they please. http://www.usatoday.com/money/perfi/cred…
--------------------
This is really a ploy so that insurance companies don't have to comply with state laws about coverage and responsibility, I live in NY, and my insurance co is in Texas, they call themselves a discount plan, not an insurance plan. That way they don't have to worry about the consumer protections I had when I had an employer provider plan. I had to fight Aetna to get an operation done in a way I needed, the State Insurance board went to bat for me and four months later I had it done and paid for by the insurance company. They actually admitted that the operation was well within their own guidelines. The reason for denial was never made clear..my guess is that they were just hoping I'd give up. I can't do that with this out of state plan. So how will it affect health care? It will put us more at the mercy of the merciless.

I don't have health insurance, I researched & Im sure I have tonsillitis, is there anything I can do at home?

For the past few days I haven't been feeling well, but since I dont have insurance I try my hardest to ignore it. So I found this in my research? What are the symptoms of tonsillitis? The following are the most common symptoms for tonsillitis. However, each individual may experience symptoms differently. Symptoms may include: *swollen, red tonsils (often coated with a yellow, gray, or white membrane) *blisters or painful ulcerated areas on the throat *sudden onset sore throat *pain with swallowing *headache *loss of appetite (dont have) *malaise (dont have) *chills *fever (dont have) *swollen and tender lymph nodes in the neck or jaw area So I am hoping that SOMEONE out there can offer some advice to me as what I can do at home and save myself the huge bill going to the doctor without insurance. Thanks in advance for any information!!!
--------------------
Drink a hot tea of dried elder flower, peppermint and yarrow throughout the day. It will ease the pain of tonsillitis. Flaxseed oil reduces pain and inflammation and will aid in recovery. These items can be found at GNC or a health food store.
