what is the average cost of health insurance and garbage bills? help im doing a project!!?

im doing i project and i cant seem to find the average cost of health insurance and garbage bills per month. i need a estimate and a website to prove i found it. please help this is worth 100 points and its due tomorrow and i need to get to bed soon!
--------------------
Well, go get a free health insurance quote at ehealthinsurancequotes.com. But the cost is heavily dependent on your age, and the deductibles. Expect to pay $200 a month if you're healthy and 20. For garbage, it's about $10 a month. I'm sure it varies geographically. No website here, just personal experience. Heck, print out this answer as your proof. After all, THIS is a website.

Can people with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) join a Medicare Advantage plan for 2008 health insurance?

Medicare Advantage (MA) health plans offer more value to Seniors because they usually fill insurance gaps that original Medicare has like hospital stay and physician care deductibles and copays. Can all Seniors who are eligible for Medicare in the US join a MA plan or are some conditions, specifically Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's) disease excluded?
--------------------
Yes, they can. You must have Medicare parts A & B to qualify for a plan. The only health issue that will keep you from getting on a Medicare Advantage plan is End Stage Renal Disease. Open enrollment is November 15 to December 31. You'll want to visit a local independent agent that works with senior policies to find the best plan for your situation. Many MA plans will also include Part D. Prescription co-pays are one of the biggest difference in plans. There can be several thousand dollars difference in your co-pay between plans so it is imperative that you do an analysis of your medication.

Was this all about forcing us to buy health insurance?

That's the only part of the plan that is still in effect, which makes me think it was the plan all along. I've always said the insurance companies will never allow a public option, the liberals have been duped again. When will you learn? This means 40 million new FORCED customers for the insurance companies. If you think this is going to make them lower your premiums, I've got a bridge in Alaska to sell you.
--------------------
You've always said that the insurance companies wouldn't allow a public option? And how are they to stop it? Oh yeah- by getting their talking heads on Fox to rile of the fundamentalist support in a paranoid frenzy. Liberals have been duped? Wow. If the public option is gone, all that has been achieved is that the privately held insurance companies who have been screwing you and me both left and right will have one less major competitor. The middle class foots the bill again because of its own short-sightedness.

i really need health insurance for my family but the ones that aren't astronomical sound too good to be true?

like national benefits consultants and a few others that called me saying it was around 150/mo for 80% coverage for all major medical expenses, a one-time fee of 120 to start up, and the price doesn't raise for adding my wife and child. are these red flags or is this legit? is there a website i can check insurance ratings?
--------------------
Some health insurance companies, or organizations such as AARP, will compare policies for you. The most difficult obstacle is that no one can predict the future, either with respect to: 1. one's health needs, 2. policy coverage, or, 3. policy premiums. One approach is to compare policies and premiums based upon one's current needs. Note: Federal Employees Health Benefits are most probably the best, and least expensive, but it is absolutely essential to comply with all rules and regulations, because the G will go to absolutely unbelievable extremes to deny coverage. A career federal employee once wrote to the editor of newsletter saying that, regardless of the law, the federal government does what the then-president wants.

I work at a part-time job & I have no health insurance. How can I find coverage.?

I've already considered going to a private insurance company, but what else is there? P.S. Besides going full-time at my job.
--------------------
Is your employer a member of your local Chamber of Commerce? Sometimes they will offer plans to employees of member companies. It's worth asking your boss! You might also try contacting regular insurance companies and ask them about individual plans for "catastrophic coverage." These aren't typical plans with doctors visits covered, but they do cover you if something really bad happens -- like (sorry, knock on wood) a bad accident, coma, terminal disease. As such, the monthly premiums are much lower than traditional health insurance coverage, and while it doesn't help you day-to-day with minor illnesses, it does buy peace of mind that if something terrible were to happen, you wouldn't have to declare bankruptcy or force your parents to sell their house or whatever. Good luck.

Are you surprised that the Republicans are siding with the health insurance companies over the citizens?

Regarding health care reform....
--------------------
A cursory look at history shows that no one should be surprised. Every time the Republicans have had control of the government they have ignored health-care reform and the out-of-control cost of health care while putting our country in ever-greater debt because of spending that has yielded no returns to the public at large. Instead, they have borrowed to pay for hundreds of billions in agricultural subsidies that primarily benefit agribusinesses and at the expense of more efficient, less-polluting small farmers. They have cut taxes for people who invested their cuts not in this country but in China, India, Indonesia, etc. They have overseen polices that ensure the exportation of our industrial base. They have promoted policies that remove oversight over the kind of speculation that resulted in the half-trillion S&L crisis under Reagan and the mega-recession that has destroyed tens of millions of American lives--and still counting. They have opposed policies that would make business more competitive, instead fomenting competition-killing corporate mergers and takeovers (this is not conservatism, folks; it is corporatism). They opted to waste hundreds of billions, to say nothing of human life, in order to invade oil-rich Iraq rather than destroy al-Qaeda and the Taliban in Afghanistan, a costly blunder that we are now having to pay for in Afghanistan. Only Iraqi Kurds (the only real good in the Iraqi invasion) and corrupt private defense contractors (including mercenaries) have benefited from the Iraq invasion. One is hard-put to think of any Republican-backed measure that has benefited the poor and middle classes of this country, but perhaps someone can--without getting into meaningless labeling and tiresome iteration of stale platitudes. All I can think of are measures and policies that have engorged the pockets of the wealthiest one percent of people in this country at the expense of everyone else.\ ***Edit: Anyone who disagrees should show me to be wrong with valid, credible facts from sources generally recognized as nonpartisan. Otherwise, your disagreement has no validity.

Do cons like to sit in a train next to a person with TB because the illegal alien has no health insurance?

Many illegal immigrants don't have health insurane and can not afford medical care. But their health problems don't affect only themselves because theyr don't live in isolation. If you ride in a train or a subway next to a person with an open form of tuberculosis, then you will catch the disease as well. The same goes for STDs. Isn't it better to provide them with medical care?

Do health insurance companies record all calls?

My wife was told that our newborn would be covered by her insurance for the first 30 days of life. After securing insurance at the 30 day mark, we were told he was not covered. We were given bad information, is there any way to prove this?
--------------------
No, they don't record ALL calls, and even if that call was recorded, you have no legal access to that information. Your wife SHOULD have gotten a "confirmation number" from them. Because obviously to everyone in insurance here (but NOT obvious to most CUSTOMERS), there's no "automatic coverage" unless you have welfare health insurance. If you don't add the baby to wife's policy WITHIN the first 30 days, RETROACTIVE to the date of birth, there is no coverage.

Is it possible to get health insurance with dental and vision care?

Im sure it is, but most of the time the dental and vision care portion of the plan sucks. Is it smarter to get them seperatly even if you think you have perfect teeth and vision.
--------------------
Yes, you should buy separate dental, vision and health plans. Generally, dental and vision are auxiliary benefits which means they are not the main focus of the plan, which is the health care portion. Buying separate plans will, in theory, enable the plans to be more reliable. This is very much like buying anything else. For example, if you buy a devise that includes a GPS, iPod, and cell phone, you would think that the GPS aspect of the devise would not be as reliable as going out and buying the device itself. Perfect teeth and vision does not last forever, especially with increasing age, when health insurance no longer is an option, therefore I do not recommend that you let this affect your choice of insurance plan. Hope this helps.

Do any health insurance companies pay for a Wii system?

I'm curious because I heard a doctor state that in the next few years they would be prescribing them and insurance would be paying for them to help overweight and stroke patients.
--------------------
Insurance companies pay for treatments and things by determining whether the treatment/item is medically necessary for treatment. For instance, if you get a CT scan for no reason, your insurance won't cover it and you'll pay for the entire thing. If you are experiencing migraines and you get a CT scan, it's much more likely that insurance will pay for the procedure. Unless a doctor can prove that the Wii is medically necessary for treatment of the illness/disease/disorder in question, I wouldn't count on it being covered.

Are there any good arguments for requiring health insurance. Ive only heard arguments against it?

Ive heard the car insurance one, not very solid. I also have heard there will be hardship exemptions and certain levels of income earned that will determine how much help will be given in purchasing insurance. Just looking for somethings to note when someone brings up this part of the bill
--------------------
There are lots of good arguments for it. There are also lots of good arguments against it. Since you asked, I'll give you some of the "pro" arguments. In theory, one could take the position "if you chose not to get insurance, it's your own problem, and you should bear the consequences". There are three problems with this. 1.) Children. Children are a big problem in purist capitalist/libertarian policies. Children don't get to chose whether to buy their own insurance. Most people agree that if children get sick, society should pay in some way. For that matter, if the parents get sick and don't get treated, the kids could end up orphans the state has to pay for, 2.) Contagious Diseases. If you catch a contagious disease and don't get cured, you spread it to other people. Some of them may die. Thus your decision to not get insurance effects others. We want anyone who has TB to be able to go to the doctor and get antibiotics. We really don't want anyone to start an antibiotic treatment and run out of money before they finish(creating antibiotic resistant strains). HIV patients on antiviral drugs are less contagious. 3.) In practice, society does pay for sick people without insurance, even if they don't fall in one of the above scenarios. They go to emergency rooms, and don't pay. They go on welfare. Lots of people will say "I chose not to buy insurance, and take the risk" when they are young and healthy, but they tend to sing a different tune if they are badly hurt or get a serious illness. Other reasons for forced insurance... 4.) Spreading the risk among more people reduces the cost for all. If people get to chose not to buy insurance, healthy people will buy it, while sick people won't. 5.) Forced insurances does less to damage the budget deficit then "the public option". 6.) Based on political realities, this was the only universal health plan we were going to get right now.

Is the health insurance in Canada as good as its made out to be?

Ive heard that even though the health care is free you may have to wait a long time for an appointment
--------------------
Our health care system has its good and its bad points. The reasons I would never want to lose our health care system: when you go to the hospital or doctor, no one worries how much money you have in your account, if you're at the right hospital for your coverage.. you just go. It's universal so everyone is covered, and people at the lower end of the income scale have their medical premiums subsidized. I don't pay any co-pays when I see my doctor. If I need to see a specialist, I get sent.. no checking with my insurance to see if they cover it. What our system desperately needs to fix: The wait times. It's very sad, but many people ARE waiting far too long to see specialists, to have surgeries done, etc. Sadly, wait times in ERs can easily be four or more hours. Not good.. The system is over-worked and underfunded. The doctors, nurses and technicians are hard-working and for the most part caring and wonderful, but they're caseloads are far too high. There's a shortage of General practician doctors in certain areas, and god forbid you live outside a large city. I don't blame our universal system on the problems, but rather years of mismanagement and fat cats who eat at the trough. Oh.. and when you say our system is "free" - it's not free. we pay for it through our medicare preminums AND our taxes. No, we don't pay for the individual appointments and visits to the hospital, etc., but don't for a second think that it's free.

I work at Brookshires and I wanted to know if I can put my mother in my health insurance plan?

Well my cuestion is if I can use my work insurance plan to cover my mother. I am not married yet, so I am paying just for my self. she is not ill, it's just in case she needs it. Thanks.
--------------------
I'd be extremely surprised if your mother would qualify as a dependent on your health insurance policy through your employer. You can ask, of course, but don't be surprised if the answer is no. Generally, the only people who might qualify as a dependent on an insurance policy would be a spouse, child, or stepchild. Some groups may allow you to add domestic partners and children you have legal guardianship of. Those are the basics though - any other relationship would be a rare exception.

Is the health and life insurance field a good career field?

I'm looking into working for an insurance company, that deals with health and life insurance. Does anyone know if insurance agents get salary pay as well as commission when they work for a large insurance company?
--------------------
Most Life and/or Health positions are commission only. Most of them are not in an office - but out in the field. If you also have Property & Casualty (autos & houses) then an office position at an agency is possible - and they often pay a salary - and sometimes salary and commission. If you're interested in Life insurance sales (no office) then I suggest: naadavies.com They give you leads (people to sell to) and training if you need it & LOTS of support. It's where I started. I worked up a customer base & went out on my own - so I'm no longer with them, but it was a great place to start. I made approx $900/day with the Davies method. No - I get no commissions for sending you to them - I no longer work with them

Does it matter to you that required health insurance premiums would not be called a tax?

They would still be very large payments government will force people to make. People will be forced to make those payment even if they object to mainstream medicine and never use it themselves. How is this unlike a regressive tax?
--------------------
Not to ones standard of living.. *ANY* mandate by the Government has a negative effect on ones total disposable income. Environmental mandates are among the worst offenders... The "Cape and Trade" scam will cost the average household more than $1500 a year just in electricity bills, with additional cost in transportation. (driving to work, etc) Supposedly it won't be a "regressive tax" because lower incomes will be subsidized. Of coarse *someone* has to pay for it and the actual effect will be *more* low income workers due to the loss of jobs in the economy caused by increased cost (the result of the "subsidy")

How much will it cost to visit a doctor under COBRA health insurance? How much of bill will be covered byCobra

My boyfriend quit his job a month ago, and I believe he can continue his health coverage through COBRA. How much would a doctor visit cost for a single person? How much will COBRA cover for a visit and a skin biopsy? We know that he will be paying 280 per month for continuing coverage.
--------------------
COBRA is the extension of the health benefits your boyfriend received from their former employer, so the cost of the doctor's visit is the same as it was when your boyfriend was with his employer. The part that changes the most when someone goes on COBRA is that he/she is paying 102% of the health plan's premium, which includes the entire premium plus 2% for the administration of the plan. When your boyfriend worked for his former employer, he was probably only paid a fraction of his health premium. Has your boyfriend explored other health options? COBRA is a valuable option for many (especially those who have pre-existing health conditions), but the premiums can be very expensive - often more than employees can afford. At eHealthInsurance.com, where I work, you can get free instant quotes and compare benefits for a broad range of health insurance plans available in your area. We even have a site for people to learn about their options outside COBRA, called www.COBRAlearning.com. Which is the Best Health Insurance Policy available for Individuals in India?

So far I have learnt that LIC health plus is a pretty good policy. and http://sunilrams.blogspot.com has really given in detail the comparisons . Are there any better policies in the Indian Market for individuals.
--------------------
Hi.. Fortunately now we have 2 dedicated Health Insurance Companies in India. 1. Apollo DKV Health Insurance 2. Star Health Insurance Company Both of them are focused Health Insurance companies, hence they are good both in terms of service and products. Yea, premium are little higher but they are good. Besides then, all General Insurance companies in India provide health cover. Dont get confused with Life Insurance companies like LIC or ICICI Pru health initiatives. They are focused Life companies, hence better to buy either from Apollo / Sta or General Insurance companies and not Life Insurance companies. If you want options, then try Bajaj Allianz General / ICICI Lombard General and Oriental Insurance company. If you dont want to chase different agents from different companies for your Insurance Policy and want all under one roof, then best bet is India's first On-line Insurance Portal - http://www.InsuranceMall.in At this site, you could compare and buynow your choice health Insurance policy at your pace. How many US CITIZENS are INVOLUNTARILY without health insurance?

I'm not trying to fan flames here, this is a serious question. If anybody has stats that would be great.
--------------------
The actual number of uninsured Americans who have no other means to pay for their medical needs is approximately 10 to 12 million, and these people can STILL get emergency treatment and go to income contingent payment plan clinics, which are partially taxpayer funded. Nobody in this country is denied medical treatment when they seek it.

Why would a company make health insurance mandatory?

I am one of the rare people. I am young, healthy, and pay for my own Dr. visits. I am pissed off by the line "You must select one coverage plan or show proof of other insurance." Why must I show proof of another plan? I am a responsible person. Yes, I know emergencies do occur, but this question is not about that. I feel that I am paying other's people's bills by even contributing to such a plan. I clearly don't use my share.
--------------------
You are, in fact, helping to offset the unhealthy, older employees costs by getting on the group. If they let you get your own policy, that is probably a less expensive option. A high deductible plan would save you money over a "bells-and-whistles" PPO or HMO and still let you mitigate those larger risks.

If the health insurance business won't be able to deny insurance because of pre-existing condtions?

Shouldn't the car insurance industry be made to offer car insurance for drivers that have had accidents at the same price as those without accidents. Hmmm if they did that I wonder what would happen to everyones car insurance. Wouldn't it go up?

Why is it so hard for Democrats to understand that we Republicans love our health insurance companies dearly?

I find it insulting that Democrats are so against the insurance companies that keep us healthy and safe. I speak for all Republicans when I say, Democrats leave or insurance companies alone. They are good people and they deserve respect, fact.

No one's doing anything to the insurance companies. However, too many people pay too much for health insurance, and only get partial coverage.

Health insurance for poor people in the USA?

Is there any health insurance available for people who cannot afford to spend at least $300/month?
--------------------
Yes, there is, but it depends upon your age, height & weight, your current health, if you smoke, what type of plan and deductible you have, and many other factors. If you visit a local independent agent you'll be able to compare many different plans in one place. The agent can find the best plan for your situation and budget. Do not try to do this over the internet. It'll take you several days to intelligently compare all the plans available. Also, if you have any pre-existing conditions that might add a rider to the policy or cause you to be declined or if you are out of the height and weight guidelines you won't know until you've applied and gone through the underwriting process. You may get answers here concerning medical discount cards. Be very wary of these cards. They are not regulated by the Department of Insurance nor do the people that sell them need to be licensed. This means you have little recourse when you have problems with the plan. If you are tempted by the low price and claims of "save up to 80%" be aware that very few doctors actually take these cards. It does you little good if you have to drive 4 hours to find a doctor that will accept the card. Montana couldn't find any doctors in the whole state that actually took the card and only one dentist who was on probation for unlawful activities so they banned the sale of the card and fined the company. See this link http://www.insurancejournal.com/news/wes… for more information. Many other states are starting to ban these cards as well. Before signing up with any discount plan get a list of doctors. If they won't give you a list consider it to be a scam. Call the doctors on the list to make sure they're still taking the card (many don't even know that they're listed as a provider) and that they're accepting new patients.

Health Insurance? I am on Medicaid and I will be up tell i'm 21 but when once i turn 21 what will happen?

I live in Iowa....I have some health problems and once I turn 21 my Insurance wont cover me anymore...What would be my options. To where i would be covered and still beable to see my doctors. I still live at home with my mother. What are my options?
--------------------
At the moment....your options are getting full time job that provides health benefits. Hopefully the health care legislation being debated in congress will provide answers for the future. But as it is.....working and getting health insurance through your employer is pretty much it. With health problems, you'll have a hard time finding a private insurer willing to cover you....and if you do...you won't be able to afford it.

Some companies have special association plans. Check with the Chamber of Commerce, and any trade associations you can. Also, since Blue Cross is not an insurance company (they are a non-profit organization - most people do not know this) they can do things other companies cannot do because of insurance regulations. Check with them.

That sounds really strange. You should be able to use their insurance even if you are stuck using out of network providers in Oregon. It's even stranger as Mass has a state law requiring everyone to have medical insurance. Ask them for a pay increase to help off set you buying your own insurance. Does everyone here know that the Health Insurance Reform bill HR3200 does not include universal health care?

I've seen multiple Q/A that suggest universal healthcare is being proposed by the administration and it's not. "Free" health care is not being proposed by the administration. Also, the majority of Republicans support HR3200 (minus the public option) according to Rudy Giuliani on today's "Meet the Press".

Yes, I know. A public option (which is not in there at the moment) is in itself a pansy, crappy, limp option for what it really should be. Universal Health Care or to hell with all opponents in 2010!

Good luck.

If you don't add the baby to wife's policy WITHIN the first 30 days, RETROACTIVE to the date of birth, there is no coverage.

what is the difference between HMO & HSA & PPO health insurance plans? and which one is better to have?

My husband and I do not have health insurance and were trying to get pregnant. I really need to purchase a good health insurance plan. I was thinking of choosing Kaiser. And I have no clue about the health insurance lingo. Can someone help me. Sincerely, Jennifer
--------------------
The basic differences: With an HMO you must select a primary care doctor, and must get referrals from that doctor to see a specialist. If you want to change primary care doctors you must first notify the insurance company and cannot see the new doctor until the change has been processed. You cannot go outside of the doctor network except in emergencies. In general, the premium will be higher but your cost when you use medical services will be lower. With a PPO you do not have to select a primary care doctor and you do not have to get a referral to see a specialist. You can go outside of the network although your cost may be higher. An HSA is just a PPO that has a higher deductible and allows you to open up a health savings account that works much like an IRA. My advice would be to visit a local agent that works with Kaiser as well as all of the other major companies in your area. The agent can find the best plan for your situation and budget. They can explain what you get and, more importantly, what you don't get with each policy and can answer all of your questions. There is no extra charge using an agent. Be aware that with individual policies there will be a waiting period for maternity coverage. The agent can explain how long this waiting period will be with each different policy.

Many states currently have high risk pools available. The health care bill will have a national high risk pool that was supposed to be in effect July 1 but which has been delayed. I'm confused about primary and secondary health insurance?

My daughter is on my policy, where all of the payments come out of a fund set at the beginning of the year, so if it is $1,000 that can be wiped out by one trip to the ER. Also, she is on her father's plan which is a taditional co-pay plan. Would it work out to my advantage to use his at primary and mine as secondary? Can the co-pay requirement from his insurance be paid from my plan?
--------------------
Here are the rules of the National Association of Health Insurance Commissioners. These rules are listed in order - the first one to apply to you will be used to process claims. 1. If the Policy Holder is the same for both contracts: a. The plan that covers the policyholder as an active employee is primary. b. If the policyholder has the same employment status (active/retired) under both plans, the plan with the earliest effective date is primary. 2. If the Policy Holder is the spouse or domestic partner: a. The plan that covers the policyholder as an employee is primary. The spouse's is secondary. 3. If children are covered under more than one policy and the parents are married or living together: a. The policy of the parent whose birthday (month and day) is earlier in the year is primary. b. If the parents share the same birthday (month and day), the policy with the earlier effective date is primary. 4. If children are covered under more than one policy and the parents are divorced or living apart: a. The policy of the parent that the court has made responsible for health care insurance is primary. b. The policy of the parent who has custody of the children is primary. c. If the court has not placed responsibility on one parent to insure the children and the parents have joint custody, the policy of the parent whose birthday (month and day) is earlier in the year is primary. If the parents share the same birthday (month and day), the policy with the earlier effective date is primary. d. If the natural parent elects to have coverage under the policy of the step parent, we will consider the policy to be that of the natural parent. These rules do not apply when one policy is Medicare. Your state laws may vary.

Are insurance companies lobbying to get the contracts to administer the proposed govt. health insurance?

Private insurance companies already administer the Medicare program. People blame the government for problems with Medicare, but the government doesn't administer it.
--------------------
Insurance companies can lobby for anything they want but hopefully they are not going to get it this time. I don't actually know why taxpayers are currently subsidizing private insurance companies that run Medicare Advantage programs at a cost nearly 20 percent higher than Medicare but that has to be looked into as part of this health care reform.

Does anyone know how I can get private health insurance?

I can purchase it through work but I was told to shop around a bit. I need medical insurance and dental would be nice. Anyone know of any websites?
--------------------
Contact a local independent agent. If you want maternity, chances are the group plan will be better. However, depending on the average age and medical conditions of the group, you may be able to cut the cost in half by going out on your own. That will vary from state to state and group to group also. A local agent can help you. Get the info on the group plan (outline of coverage) and the cost so they can see what they can do for you on an individual plan that is comparable to the group plan. You are making a wise choice by checking out your options. Keep in mind that the group plan is most likely paid in part by your employer. Compare what your actual costs will be.

--------------------
Let's be honest, if the military spent time investigating peoples medical history it would be one never ending episode of CSI. The Privacy Act ensures your medical records aren't for the public eyes. The Army does run a credit check to make sure you don't suffer from indebtedness. If your name pops up on a credit check and the bills are from a medical institution it would be a dead give away that you aren't 100% healthy and honest. Don't lie to the recruiters, seriously. The military has it's own health care system called TRICARE. They are an independent agency that deals with active duty soldiers, dependents, retirees etc. They have no business talking with your current health care insurer. ps Just because you think you are healthy doesn't mean you are fit 2 fight. With health insurance, what if the provider does not submit the claim before the window for doing so closes?

For example, on a date the provider provided a service, but failed to properly submit the claim for insurance before the window for doing so closes. Does the person who received the service then have to pay the provider, or does the provider forfeit payment for not properly submitting the claim?
--------------------
It depends on the provider's contract with the insurer. Most contracts, with an IN NETWORK provider, say that the provider has to "eat" the bill - and can't charge the patient. But if it's not in network, or that provision isn't in the contract, then the patient is on the hook for the full amount.

Double up on individual health insurance?

Can you have more than one Health Insurance Plan for your self? I have to buy my own insurance, but even the best individual insurance is crappy and I wanted to now if people ever buy two insurance plans? The insurance i have now only lets me see the doctor twice a year. If I got another insurance plan would it pick up where the other left off?
--------------------
Hi, Generally it is not a good idea to have more than one health insurance plan because only one will be your primary coverage. You need to be careful if you want secondary coverage. Many policies will not allow you to get a policy if you already have a policy. Having said that, there are supplemental plans that pay YOU instead of the doctor or hospital. They are with companies such as Aflac and are supplemental plans. They are set up so that you get a certain dollar amount for each doctors visit, emergency room visit, hospital stay, or surgery. While I represent individual insurance companies I don't generally recommend these supplemental type plans unless you go with an HSA where you don't have co payments and you have a high hospital deductible. But you get what you pay for with insurance. If you want low co payments and deductibles then your premium will be high. I would recommend getting a primary plan that is good enough and saving money to pay co payments and deductibles. Try this site http://free-health-quote.blogspot.com/ Here you can get quotes from different health insurance companies in your area, its the best way to find an individual health insurance with a reliable company. Should overseas student buy health insurance while they're studying or just necessary for the 1st year? Is there any health insurance company like medibank? any health insurance company cover dental/eye? Thank you!

Hi there, I'm assuming that you are talking about an Australian student visa because you've referred to Medibank and also the requirement to have private medical insurance. When you apply for your visa you will need to show that you have taken out at least 1 years Overseas Student Medical Coverage. This is usually organised through the institution where you will be studying. Once you get your visa you will have a condition attached to it that states that you must maintain your OSMC throughout your stay as a student in Australia - so, you will need to renew your insurance every year. Medibank private is one of the main providers however you can also check out: MBF NIB HCF Best of luck and feel free to contact me on Jessica.Stooke@Visalogic.net if you need help with your visa application.

Why did Dear Leader Øbama speak of eliminating private health insurance in 2007?

employer coverage = private health insurance "I would hope that we could set up a system that allows those who can go through their employer to access a federal system or a state pool of some sort. But I don't think we're going to be able to eliminate employer coverage immediately. There's going to be potentially some transition process." -- Barack Øbama, March 24, 2007
--------------------
Obama openly campaigned for Universal Health care for everyone. This would automatically end all private health insurance coverages.

How do I cure a UTI with not having health insurance to go to the doctor?

Does a person on Medicaid need to continue with a secondary health insurance like Blue Cross?

I can't get a straight answer from either agency. Naturally Blue Cross wants their monthly payments to continue -- as Medicaid wants their percentage of health costs to be at a minimum. Can someone out there give me a definative answer?
--------------------
Medicaid or Medicare? Where I live, you can't get Medicaid if you have insurance. Medicaid is based on income and ability to get medical care. With Medicare, secondary health insurance is really a necessity these days.

Why do we allow our governing bodies to spend so much time and effort trying to establish health insurance?

We spend very little trying to prevent bad health, actually bad health is sold. People in this country overeat, under exercise, and try to blame someone else.
--------------------
I assume you mean the US. In the UK everyone pays an amount from their wages/tax according to their income to the Health Service. When they are ill or taken to hospital they are treated. There is no argument or questioning after this, it is paid for. The same service is given to all regardless of income or status, although there is a private treatment option for those that can afford it. This tends to just be to get treatment quicker for minor operations, or for cosmetic surgery etc. The same system covers dental treatment. What you should be asking is why hasn't the US had a similar system for years. - the answer is that the people who provide medical insurance in the US are making too much money from it to let it happen! .

Can my employer refuse to provide me information on our new health insurance?

I work in the medical field and recently our facility was sold to an individual who owns 6 other facilities. He had a meeting with all of the staff to "explain" our new health coverage, but will not provide us with any documentation of what it really entails. Can he really hide this information from us?
--------------------
just sit tight for now since the company you work for is now owned by another company all the information will come to light right now maybe the only person might have a answer for you might be HR DEPT because its there area to know this stuff, but for now just sit tight and wait.

Can I get WIC even though I pay for my own Health Insurance?

Can I have WIC even though I am planning to get married and go under "his insurance"?
--------------------
I don't think WIC is for health matters. It provides assistance for food. If your income is low enough then you can qualify. My sister had it and she got all her formula, milk, cereal, cheese, bread, etc. BTW, you have to have a child to get WIC as well.

I founda really good doctor that is out of network. I don't mind paying the visits or the labs, but if he writes prescriptions, can I still take them to walgreens and get them filled under my insurance plan? Or does the doctor writing the prescriptions have to be in the network? Thanks
--------------------
Yes, your choice of doctor will not affect your coverage for prescription meds and you can still get them filled at Walgreens.

I need help finding a health insurance company?

I am graduating, so my parents insurance dropped me and I need to find a new company. I wanted Blue Cross Blue Shield, but I have diabetes, and they said I would have to wait 365 days before they would cover treatment for my diabetes, or any other pre-existing condition. I need to find a good insurance company that won't delay treatment on my pre-existing condition. Does anyone have any suggestions?

How to see a physical therapist without health insurance?

I have a problem with my shoulder/collarbone. Does anyone know I can see a physical therapist without insurance?? Preferably MA or NH
--------------------
Ys you can but it will be expensive, because insurance essentially pays a portion of the bill. You can work out payment plans with doctors but they will need a lot of information. You can go to a major hospital, but you should be ready to wait in a long line for a long time. Try to go on a monday afternoon when there might be less people. I didn't have insurance until I got injured and went to a hospital. I live in a big city and because my injuries were not life threatening, I waited 12 hours. They cannot turn you away and must treat you. If your problem is something you can live with, try to get insurance even if just for a while. Starbucks offers insurance to employees of at least three months and insurance is something like $25 a month.

Can online students still be covered for health insurance under parents plan?

I'm under my parents health plan and i turn 19 in January and thats when my coverage will be terminated unless I show proof im still a "full time student".. Im currently enrolled in college but online.. Does this still qualify under full time student?
--------------------
I would think it does, but there is usually a credit hour amount that has to be met to be full-time and I am unsure how online courses are. If they are also credit hours, just like normal school and you're full-time, then you should be ok.

What probably are the causes for increasing health insurance rates?

Is it due to inflation, lowering standards of medical care, insufficient government control, deteriorating human health, environmental degradation or other factors?
--------------------
Last week, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius sent a letter to Anthem Blue Cross. She asked the health insurer to justify premium increases of up to 39 percent on individual policies in California. Now, the company is temporarily postponing some rate increases for people in that state. But what about everyone else? Such hefty premium increases aren't confined to the Golden State. Nearly 20 million Americans purchase health insurance in the so-called "individual" market. They don't have the bargaining power or protections that come with employer-based health insurance. They are the people who are unemployed or self-employed or work for a business that doesn't offer insurance. They are on their own shopping for coverage. And they frequently pay a small fortune for it - if they're lucky enough to get decent coverage at all. These are some of the very Americans lawmakers had in mind when they crafted health reform legislation - and a reminder of why Congress needs to finish the job. Bills passed by both the House and Senate would set up "insurance exchanges" where Americans could buy coverage. These plans would be required to adhere to minimum standards, such as covering emergency room visits. The government would provide subsidies to some Americans to help pay for coverage. Ideally, final legislation should allow those shopping in the exchange to purchase insurance from the government. Such a "public option" would ensure people's choices for an insurer aren't limited to private sector companies - the same companies that may try to jack up rates 39 percent in one year. Reform legislation also prohibits insurers from discriminating against people because they have preexisting health conditions. It limits how much companies can charge older Americans, who may have more health expenses. These are exactly the reforms Americans need. They are the kind of reforms Iowans need. Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield is the largest health insurer in Iowa. It sells individual policies to about 80,000 Iowans. Though Wellmark estimates the average increase on individual plans to be about 18 percent this year, some Iowans will see premiums go up about 25 percent. About 16,000 Wellmark customers will pay 22 percent more for their individual policies - on top of premium increases of about 12 percent per year the past three years. The truth is, there is no scarier place to get health-care coverage than in the individual health insurance market. Insurers review your health history. If there's even a hint of a health problem, they may charge you higher premiums. If you have heart problems or cancer or diabetes, they may not sell you coverage at all. Companies may cancel your policy if you get sick. As much as people may complain about employer-based insurance, these are the lucky Americans compared to those buying coverage on their own. According to a survey from David P. Lind & Associates in Clive, employers pay about 81 percent of the cost of premiums for single coverage plans and 66 percent of the cost for family plans. Those in the individual market pay the entire cost themselves. The letter from Secretary Sebelius to Anthem is yet another reminder that millions of Americans are caught between a rock and a hard place: Join the ranks of the uninsured or pay whatever the insurance company is charging. It's a reminder that Congress needs to finally deliver some help to these Americans.

Is a recent diagnosis of PCOS considered pre-existing condition for my health insurance?

I have BCBS of IL. and I have a one year pre-existing clause on my plan. I was diagnosed with PCOS last month and am planning on going to see an Endo who specializes in PCOS to help with my weight issues, however, I am wondering if the insurance company will deny any of my treatments for this as a "pre-existing condition" even though I never was treated/knew I had it before last month with my new insurance. Any experiences?
--------------------
Obviously Marshall thought this was a weight lose question. Maybe he/she is illiterate. PCOS can be considered an existing condition same as Diabetes or Thyroid conditions. It is completely up to the discretion of your insurance provider. Call them to be sure or log into their website to veiw a list of what they consider preexisting. Good luck on your quest for health. I also have been diagnosed with PCOS, a mild form but understand what you are struggling with.

me and my partner filled out a domestic partnership affidavit for the health insurance company?

In order for me to be added to her insurance policy we had to fill out a domestic partnership affidavit, have it notarized and send it back to them. This was no problem cause we plan to get actually married in a year anyways. So we did that and everything was good but my question is since this was for the insurance company yet it was notarized is it just as good for anything else or is that paper just good to them?
--------------------
OK. If you're together right now & through her employer she has you down as her DP? That affidavit of DP is only good for health insurance, & that's it. It's not binding for state benefits or any other type of insurance other that the insurance that the affidavit was specifically made for. As for when you get married? Well, that depends as well. The best person to ask this question to would be your fiance's employer's HR Personnel Management Team for benefits. There may be some changes in getting your fiance's benefits (not a negative though). The reason I say that is: My wife & I got married while it was still legal to do so in CA. She brought in our marriage license so she could add me to her health insurance, but it was turned down. Her employer said she needed to fill out an affidavit of Domestic Partnership, comply with all the legalize within that form, sign it & get it notarized. If we lied about anything on that form, it would be nullified, along with us paying back the organization's attorneys fees & benefits they bestowed on me for health care. There was 1 big problem. The form asked if we were married to another person. We are. To each other. We brought this "tiny" issue up to HR, who also overlooked our marriage license that we brought in 2wks prior to this affidavit being sent out. Long to short, the HEAD of this organization's HR Office for benefits contacted us directly to apologize for any undue hardship & that our marriage license would be sufficient.

Do you think its a good idea to be able to opt-out of the health insurance mandate?

In his SRLC speech, RP said he would introduce a bill next week to allow opting out of Obamacare insurance mandates. He also said it would probably be a one page Bill. This is an excellent move. It will make his fellow Republicans put up or shut up and show their true colors. How will they be able to face the criticism if they don't support it?
--------------------
Without the mandate, there will be massive fraud. People could legally decline to get insurance until they have an expensive condition, paying their normal healthcare out of pocket. When they need insurance for something expensive, they could get it because there's no discrimination on preexisting conditions (once that part of the law kicks in). It would bankrupt the system. The Republicans are playing a dangerous game if they push to hard on this because if they push, it might pass. If it passes and if Obama calls their bluff and signs it, it would bankrupt the industry. If you want to see single-payer in the United States, allow people to opt-out. The industry will collapse and Congress will have no choice but to provide it's own alternative system. You can expect the insurance industry to put a lot of pressure on the Republicans to quietly let this die and the Democrats would be happy to let them.

Where can I get free health insurance?

I am 19 years old and am from Tacoma, WA. I was told I was not eligible to get health care from medicare/medical coupon. I need a physical soon. Is there any place I can get a free health physical?
--------------------
Free health insurance is called Medicaid - welfare health insurance. But hey, you're 19. Get out there and paint some houses cheap, and you can earn enough money to buy your own health insurance - or pay for your own physical. What, you only want something, if you can get it for FREE? If someone ELSE is paying for it? Must not want it too badly. Go out there and work for it, like everyone else does.

why is it so bad to be required to have health insurance?

Im not sure if every state requires auto insurance, but my state does.
--------------------
Every state except NH requires auto insurance . . . and it doesn't work. In some states, like mine (TX) up to 25% of the cars on the road are estimated to be uninsured. The POINT is, it's unconstitutional. Besides property taxes, we shouldn't be forced to buy ANYTHING.

Why do some psychiatrists not accept health insurance?

My psychologist (my insurance doesn't cover psychologists so I have been paying out of pocket 100%) referred me to a psychiatrist so I can go on medication. I called to make an appointment and was advised they do not accept any insurance. The guy's initial intake fee is $375. Why don't they take insurance if they are a psychiatrist who prescribes medication?
--------------------
A lot of private practice doctors, especially specialists, don't take health insurance because if they run the practice themselves, it just becomes too much paperwork for them to deal with. I've heard complaints about how long it takes to receive payment and the hours spent on the phone with insurance companies. It's just not worth it to some doctors. Just because your doc prescribes medicine, he is not obligated to take insurance either. Also if you get prescribed something from an out of network doctor, you can still get your prescription filled under your health insurance plan, as long as you go to a pharmacy that takes your insurance.

Have any "Republican business owners" had to lay people off due to increases in health insurance costs?

just wondering? they say if they get a 1 percent increase in taxes that they are going to have to lay off half their workforce... what about a 10 percent increase in health care costs? I've seen several of those in the past 10 years? or do they even offer insurance?
--------------------
Some may. Some have claimed multi million, even billion dollar "write downs," These "write downs" are a result of increases in taxes on companies that offer prescription drug benefits to their retirees instead of forcing them into Medicare. The "write downs" are required by the SEC; companies must restate their earnings to reflect the present value of their long-term health liabilities, including a higher tax burden. As the health care law greatly increases their tax burden, the write down is required by law. But Henry Waxman will haul the CEOs of these companies in for a hearing because their judgment "appears to conflict with independent analyses, which show that the new law will expand coverage and bring down costs." http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424…

Can someone anyone explain how National/Universal Health Care puts Private Health Insurance out of Business ?

Can someone anyone explain how National/Universal Health Care puts Private Health Insurance out of Business ?
--------------------
Sure, it's very simple. Government has suddenly become a competitor. They make all the rules. When government feels threatened it will change the rules to it's advantage. Plus, businesses will drop coverage on employees and pay the fine because it's cheaper. Voila! Half of the country will be on some government form of insurance before we know it and private companies will go out of business within 10 years. Obama has just ensured the destruction of the private insurance industry and millions will lose their jobs. The socialist in chief and his evil minions will pay dearly at the polls.

Would you want the same health insurance as your Congressman or Senator?

Their insurance premium is under $600. per year. Subsidized by tax revenues. Are you going to vote again for those who voted against the public option?
--------------------
The public option is *not* an option and if this so called health care bill is so great, with or without the public option, exactly why is it that the members of congress have written themselves an exemption ? Is it because they don't want to be subjected to the same rules as we will have to follow? perhaps they want to insure that they will always be able to get decent health care ? You can give me the same health care that they have and the same exemption at the same cost (zero) and I will take it. You give me the same retirement benefits that they get after serving only one term, which is their annual salary + 50% of their salary for their spouse for the rest of their lives, I will take that as well. I am going to vote against anyone that votes in favor of this ridiculous health care bill. At this point I am ready to vote against any incumbent so the next set to come in remember that the first words of the constitution starts with "We the People" . These idiots in congress need to be reminded that they work for us, it is not the other way around.

why is group health insurance better than individual?

My employer is offering group insurance. My individual insurance seems like a better deal but everyone keeps saying group is better? Why is this?
--------------------
It's like size 10 jeans; Might be the best fit for someone else, but it's not necessarily the best fit for EVERYONE. Here's the scoop on group health insurance: you take everyone in the group, lump them together, and AVERAGE the price for their insurance. Group coverage actually costs MORE than private coverage. Additionally, on a group policy, YOU don't get to choose your coverage - your boss does (or at least, they pick the plan). And, usually the employer kicks in about half the cost. Additionally, they have to accept EVERYONE who is an employee, on the group. If an employee is newly added, and they don't have prior coverage, they can STILL exclude coverage for preexisting conditions for up to 18 months. Lastly, there are some coverages you can get on grouip policies that are almost impossible to get on private policies - like coverage for maternity, and/or infertility issues. Don't confuse "prediagnosed" with "preexisting". If the sypmtoms are there NOW, and you don't have insurance NOW, then the condition IS preexisting. On the down side, unless you're newly eligible for group coverage, you can only "sign on" during open enrollment - once a year. Unless you plan on keeping your job forever, or flat out aren't eligible for private health insurance, if the coverage on a private policy is much less expensive for the same coverage (which isn't uncommon, if you're under 30), there's really not much of an advantage to take the group plan.
