My health insurance company is cancelling my policy because my company did not pay the premium.?

I got a letter from my health insurance carrier saying my coverage was being terminated as my employer did not pay the premium for the last three months. However, They have taken the premium's out of my paycheck every pay period and they show it on the check. The insurance company also says I will be liable for any services they paid for during this period. What can I do.
--------------------
Unfortunately, the contract with the insurance company is with your employer and so if premium was not paid then the contract will cancel and no benefits can be paid after that time. Your issue is with your employer - what did they do with the payroll deductions if it wasn't paid to the insurance company? If they are unable to pay back premium and have the policy reinstated, then do they have a plan in place to provide health insurance back to that cancellation date? If not, they owe you the payroll deductions back and you will need to acquire insurance on your own. I would consider this a BIG red flag that your employer is not doing well financially or, at best, the benefits department is incompetent (neither is a good thing for employees). If your employer continued to take payroll deductions after they knew the policy was terminating and didn't notify employees, then I wonder if they aren't somehow implying coverage and might be forced to pay your medical bills - but I'm not a lawyer and do not know the answer to this. Good luck! Also, a good resource is... http://www.knowledged.info/go.php?link=i… Good Luck.

If someone is injured in a car accident, does their car insurance typically pay for their health care?

Or is it up to the person's health insurance (out-of-pocket if they have no health insurance)?
--------------------
If the other party was liable his liability insurance should pay. If the car you were riding in, was liable and they have medical. payments or the proper coverage then that insurance would pay. If the car you were riding in does not have the proper coverage then you would have to sue to recover any medical expenses you incurred. Your own medical insurance is not liable and will not pay if there is other coverage available to you.

Cancelled health insurance policy after surgury question?

My fiance just had spinal surgury (disk fusion). His insurance company he's had for a year now, has just cancelled his health insurance but not before shouting preexisting condition. He heard this from the Neuromedial hospital when trying to get another CAT scan for checking up on the surgury. Should we get a lawyer involved yet? Or should we wait it out for a more definite answer from the insurance company? I'd hate to just get married just so he'll have health insurance under my policy.

does health insurance automatically cover maternity when pregnant?

I have pretty much no knowledge of health insurance. So, if when you find out your pregnant does your insurance automatically add maternity at no additional cost? or is it something that has to be included in the plan already before becoming pregnant? Any help would be appreciated.
--------------------
It has to be signed up for before becoming pregnant and in many cases you have to wait certain period of time before becoming pregnant in order to have coverage. It's called waiting period. Insurance plan that has maternity coverage is usually around $100 more or so. These is if you have private insurance. If you have insurance through your employer, it's different story and for best answer inquire from your HR department on maternity benefits.

Is a congenital birth defect considered a pre-existing condition for purposes of health insurance?

We may be switching jobs and, therefore, health insurance. I am worried about coverage for my daughter who has a congenital birth defect (cerebral palsy). is this considered a pre-existing condition and she will be denied coverage??
--------------------
Lots of variables here. If you're going to a large company with a group policy, you may be able to join during open enrollment with no exclusions. Or there may be a set time under which any pre-existing condition is not covered (3 months, say, or 6 months). It REALLY depends on the individual state insurance commissioner to set the standards and the individual companies to decide how to meet them. It may also matter how affected your child is. CP, as you probably know, is a variable disease. Some kids need little or no extra health care. Some need lots. If you fall more toward the "lots" you might want to condsider looking into Medicaid, under the "disabled" enrollment. This can be a better deal than regular insurance, and has no caps.

Why not keep health care privatized and only treat people who have health insurance or can pay themselves?

That would lower the cost on taxpayers and those who pay fairly into the health insurance. Those who cannot afford will have to die or find a doctor willing to work for free. This would allow the most freedom and most capitalism - two bastions of American independence.

If you itemize, can you deduct health insurance premiums that you have paid?

I used the free version of Tax Act and was surprised when a box popped up and asked me for the amount of health insurance premiums I had paid.
--------------------
yes, you can. however, after you enter all your medical expenses, including your health insurance premiums, you next have to deduct .7.5% of your adjusted gross income. after doing this, many people lose their health care deduction.

NP groups providing advice on private health insurance?

I live in Austin, TX and my girlfriend is a freelance designer. She recently graduated college and needs to start purchasing private health insurance. She's a little overwhelmed. I was wondering if there are any nonprofit groups that provide information and advice on this kind of thing. Preferably one with a branch in Austin.
--------------------
You can always go to the TX Insurance Department website. But in order to give you advice about this sort of thing in Texas, legally, they have to be licensed to sell that type of insurance. Pretty much, the only people you'll see, are agents - because you have to do continuing education, etc. Just go to a local, independent agent. There's no obligation to BUY. I can tell you right now, if she's 25 and perfectly healthy, a good low/no deductible plan without maternity benefits is GOING to cost around $250 a month.

It's okay to shred them if you are not claiming any medical on your income tax records. If you do, then keep them along with your receipts of what you wrote off on medical with that years income tax for 7 years.~~

Why is Obama threatening to destroy my health insurance stocks and profits?

Keep away from my stocks and investments Obama and libs.....stay out of my pocket. Health care reform my foot. I got my insurance and a good one too. Why should I pay for insurance for bums who cant work hard to get theirs like I got mine? Romney for 2012 !!!!!!!!
--------------------
He is not. First of all, Obama is not going to bring in universal healthcare, a fact that many people (including those who voted for him) seem not to realise. He wants to make insurance more available to all. Second, of course universal health-cover sucks. That is why we in Western Europe have it. We think, hmm, our healthcare system sucks. I know, lets keep it. I guess that is the same with Japan and Canada as well. FACT - the USA spends more on healthcare PER PERSON than any other nation on the planet. FACT - the US has higher death rates for kids aged under five than western European countries with universal health coverage. That means that a dead American four year old would have had a better chance of life if they were born in Canada, France, Cuba, Germany, Japan etc, all of which have universal health coverage.

Is it possible to change health insurance companies with a pre exsisting condition such as cancer? If so how?!?

A dear friend has Cancer in her liver and Has a state health insurance. I had hoped to get her into cancer treatment center of America but they dont take that insurance. Is it possible to change insurance or is there any funding available for this problem? Please help ASAP thank You so much!
--------------------
Don't think that the Cancer Treatment Centers of America is a place that gives miracles to those with cancer. They don't do anything more than any major hospital does except they are quite expensive and don't take a lot of insurances. They might talk to you really nice and give you a massage and other things like that to make you feel better, but as far as treatment for cancer goes, there is nothing special going on there. They had to pull some of those commercials because they were misleading. If you watch the one where the lady gets cured, at the bottom there is a statement that says these results are not typical and do not assume you will have the same results. As far as your friend having state health insurance, I don't know if you are talking about state aid like welfare or she works for the state and has their state plan. I thought the new health insurance coverage that just passed that Obama fought so hard to get covered this problem of switching plans and then not being able to get coverage because of pre existing conditions. I believe that is no longer allowed, but you should check to make sure. You could call your congressman's office and they would be able to tell you.

how our health insurance companies get away with it?

ok i just watched the movie "Sicko" and i can for the life of me figure out how our health insurance companies get away with the stuff they do! can some one explain this.
--------------------
Sicko is fiction. Health insurance is heavily regulated. People who get mad at denials, are getting mad because either 1. they tried to "outsmart" the insurance company, and it backfired (ie, they're dishonest) or 2. They don't understand what they are buying. Insurance is a CONTRACT. It's controlled by CONTRACT LAW. Michael Moore is a liberal, who wants to bring Socialism to the USA. Look at government run healthcare in ANY COUNTRY you want, that has it. Look at how well it's run, and how long the lines are. SHeesh. If you like government housing, you'll LOVE government healthcare. And I sure hope you like the wait times when you call the DMV, and just imagine the hold time when you try calling the doc!!! Have you tried calling the IRS or Medicare office lately?? One more thing to think about - according to Sicko, the average Cuban spends about $250 a year for all medical treatment, including medications. But Sicko doesn't mention, that in some pharmacies, you can't even get aspirin. Or, that the average annual salary of a Cuban, is $1,000 (making healthcare 25% of their income). Or, that contrary to popular belief, Floridians are NOT jumping on rafts and trying to get to Cuba.

unemployed 18 to 25 year olds forced to have health insurance under Obamas plan?

if you where laid off, then your ok. But if you quit your last job you will be required by law to keep health insurance or be fined $2700/yr. And by the way thats $225/mo. for the most affordable which is the public option.

IF the plan were to happen....yes, every American would be required to be insured or pay the hefty fine.

Best place to purchase health insurance?

I am starting my own small business and need health insurance for my family. I won't go with Kaiser, please don't ask why. I need an HMO with no deductable or a very low deductable because in my area the Blue Cross, Blue Shield, HealthNet networks have pretty good doctors and hospitals within their "approved" networks. It will be a family-owned sole prop business. I live and work in California, but if there is value in incorporating in another state for the purpose of taxes or prices on health insurance, I guess I could do it...because I have not formally formed the corporation yet. I used to be under the impression that the best prices for Heath Insurance came when you worked for a big company, but things seem to have changed. I recently worked for another smalll family-owned business, and they got very good rates by incorporating and claiming a Headquarters in Washington. What is the best strategy to get the best insurance at the lowest rates for a small group- one family? Thanks!
--------------------
The misconception is that a person who owns a business can purchase group health insurance. Here are the facts, companies like Blue Cross, Blue Shield, HealthNet, have specific requirements for qualification for a business or what is known as "Group" insurance. Here are some of the major things you will need, first off you need at least two full time employees, these employees will need to be on payroll. You will need to show proof most common is a DE-6 (this is submitted to EDD to show withholding tax for employees, it will itemize payroll -hours worked, and withholding tax- if your employees are paid as independent contractors, you will not qualify for group health insurance). If you only have one employee on a DE-6 and you are the owner, you will need to show your Tax returns. Since your company is new, you should also be aware that the companies listed above also have a half of the quarter rule in business. You will need to also have Workers compensation insurance, in Ca. State Fund is the most popular for new companies. Another requirement is that you will be required to pay at least 50% of the employees cost, (not dependent) and also you in order to qualify your group you will need to meet participation, for the above companies it is normally 70-80% meaning that if you have 10 employees at least 7 will need to apply, unless they can prove that they have other insurance with a spouse (employer based). Here is the reality, no law says that you as a small business owner must offer health benefits, it is difficult enough to start up a business, you can purchase Individual/ family plans from the carriers listed above, qualification is based on your "health condition". I would advice you contact a broker, here in Ca. literally thousands available (I am one) I would advice interviewing several (call around) and pick someone who who mix well with.

Auto insurance doesn't cover oil changes, why should we need health coverage just to get a check up?

Why is the emphasis on lowering health insurance costs instead of lowering the price of health care? When I was growing up (70's and 80's) insurance was for "just in case" like car insurance only covers you for accidents. You don't need insurance to pay for an oil change, so why do is health care allowed to be so expensive that you need insurance just to get a check up?
--------------------
You don't have to have health insurance to get a check-up. Just like you said, car insurance doesn't pay for oil changes, but YOU have to pay for it, maybe $25.00. But if you get a complete check-up on your car, such as computer anaylsis, you may have to pay $150.00 - $600.00. The oil change and computer analysis on my car costs close to $600. I think you can get a physical check-up for less than that. If you don't have insurance, YOU have to pay for it. Healthcare is very expensive. Here are some of the reasons: Doctors and hospitals have to be insured with medical malpractice insurance. For a specialist, that coverage could cost as much or more than $100,000 per year. The hospitals medical malpractice insurance is greater than that; in the millions. Doctors have to earn a good living just to pay the insurance, in addition to their living expenses, student loans, etc. All the technical instruments that hospitals and doctors use are very expensive in this day and age of technology. Some are valued in the millions of dollars. Somebody has to pay for those. Some medications are extremely expensive. I'm a cancer patient. So far my medical bills are nearing $750,000. My chemo treatments are over $20,000 per month. Thank God for insurance. Remember, this is not the 70's and 80's, so doctors and hospitals are not using 70's and 80's technology. BTW, an oil change in the 70's was about $6.00.
