If the health insurance bill passes, will we see?

Will we see health insurance backed securities traded as CDO's on the open market? It is a win-win situation for brokers, everyone will have to buy health insurance.
--------------------
Probably. Especially since anyone who doesn't have insurance will be thrown in jail, the incentive to keep paying will be higher than home mortgages.

If an employer offers health insurance benefits, can the employer make the employee pay for their dependants?

an employer offers health insurance but for me to add my children to the coverage, they will not pay for any part of the additional premium for the children(dependents). is this normal, or is it now a law for the employer to offer discounted family coverage?
--------------------
An employer can offer whatever they like. While it is typical for an employer to pay part of the costs for an employee's health coverage, there is no requirement for them to do so for that employee's dependants.

health insurance for foreigners resided in Germany?

I'm a Singapore citizen at age 43, and I'm planning to go to Germany this coming August to take up a German language course for 6 months or so. As I was told that health insurance is mandatory in Germany, I'm wondering how I can get my health insurance covered during my stay in Germany. Can any of you shed some light on this for me? Thanks very much in advance.
--------------------
DKV Versicherungsgruppe (0180-358222 telephone from within Germany) offers an "auslander versicherung" for non-residents. The insurance can only cover you for a maximum of 4 years total (even if there is a break in insurance). The rates are good, service is good, and not complicated to use.

I need health insurance who is the best provider out there?

So i just found out I am pregnant and do not have health insurance what do i do? I am scared and nervous
--------------------
Seeing as how you are pregnant, you can apply for state insurance. They'll cover you 100% for up to 1 year after delivery. They will likely continue coverage after your baby turns 1, but you will have to reapply. look in your phone book (or online) and search under welfare programs, you'll see things like "healthy beginnings" or "healthy start" etc... they're programs for newly pregnant women, they'll set you up in the right direction. good luck and congrats.

are you one of the lucky ones who has health insurance?

If so, can you afford to use it and still have enough to live on? im looking for health insurance for a family of 4 that wont take all of our paycheck .
--------------------
I'll try to help. There is not much to go on. It would help to know where you live, whether anyone who is to be insured has a pre-existing condition, whether anyone in the family is pregnant. Without that info, I can only suggest a good place to for you to look. Go to http://www.wavehelp.com/index.htm and click on the blue circle that says Short Term Insurance. That will take you to that part of the web site and let you learn about short term medical insurance. It is a very good value because it is much less expensive than other non-group coverage but provides robust coverage. Read what you wish and then click on through to get a quote. You can even buy on-line if you see a plan that suits you. Best wishes.

Is surfing without health insurance a bad idea?

I'm moving to southern California for a job soon and want to try surfing, but my health insurance won't kick in for 2 months. Aside from drowning to death, which health insurance doesn't cover anyway, are there a lot of injuries that require doctors and hospitals? Man I just get on a board and go...
--------------------
Surf related injuries are pretty rare, especially serious ones. You're much more likely to get injured on your way to the beach. With that said doing any risky activity without insurance should be thought through. Depending upon where you are surfing in SoCal there may be a very real possibility of getting sick from surfing which can be more costly and keep you out from work longer.

Can you give me some names of reliable health insurance companies?

I need a health insurance policy for my child.
--------------------
Aetna, Cigna, Humana, Blue Cross. None of which, thanks to the health reform act, are writing "child only" health insurance policies. You'll have to buy a family policy, to get your child covered.

Do you know your health insurance situation?

A friend of mine was diagnosed with late-stage cancer. She was going to need long-term treatment. She learned that after 90 days away from her job she'd be placed on long-term disability (fortunately for her she had purchased that option). If she becomes unable to make her COBRA payments, she will not have health care coverage. Too sick to work for 3 months might lose your insurance. Do you know for sure how your particular situation would work? If this happened to you, you sure would be glad to have a Public Option.
--------------------
Thank you for that. I think that way too many people think that they are covered because they pay for their health insurance. I have to say that I used to be that very same way. That was until my aunt and uncle had their issue - my uncle carried the health insurance, and my aunt found out that she had cancer. Low and behold, there was this little paragraph in their insurance that had been paid for faithfully for over 20 years that they would only pay for so much treatment for a major illness, and then that would be it. That little paragraph only covered some of the initial medical treatment - none of the meds (they weren't on their list - too expensive, so they had to pay for the hundereds of dollars worth of meds each month out of pocket), and turned out that only the first round of chemo was covered. Because the doctor recommended the second round, the insurance company stated they would not pay for it, and that was that. They were dropped at the end of the policy year. So NOTHING was covered. You think that you are safe and that this public option is not needed for you because you have insurance - think again. When all that happened to my aunt and uncle, I grabbed my policy and read it cover to cover. Funny what you find out when that happens - like the insurance company gets to dictate my treatment (not me or my doctor), and they will only pay for what their medical staff dictates is necessary (privatized death panels). They didn't cover some of the medications that would be needed for a major diagnosis (as in cancer), and that would have to be paid for out of pocket. And they also had the option of dropping me from their plan at the end of the policy year if I "incurred too much in the way of medical expenses". I beg people - read your plans. And if you think that you are never going to have it happen to you, think again. Cancer doesn't run in our family, and my aunt got it. And they filed bankruptcy last year due to the medical bills. Guess that my bills will go up due to that, won't they? I mean, they will have to be paid by someone. . .

I need to get my tonsils removed but I have not health insurance?

My tonsils are killing me. It hurts to do pretty much everything. I want to get them removed but there is only one problem. I have no health insurance and neither do my parents. Can anyone offer some advice on how to go about getting them removed. I looked up the average price of a surgery and it runs about $3000. I don't have that kinda of money just lying around. Please help!!!

Check into public hospitals. This happened to my cousin, with no insurance, and he got his out with no fee whatsoever. He did have to wait a few months, but it worked. Public hospitals here have health plans for people with no insurance. Once you qualify, you don't pay anything, except for prescriptions, nothing for procedures or office visits. Also find out if the county where you live has some kind of assistance. Sometimes teaching hospitals will help also. Care Credit is a credit card company for health needs.

Health insurance through my husbands job?

We just got the new open enrollment info for my husbands job. Recently I have lost my job and we have had baby so this time around it will no longer just be my husband drawing the insurance, it will be our family. Anyway, the premium for health insurance only (not vision or dental) is a little over $400 a month. This seems high to me and I am wondering if that is what most people pay for a family, or if I should look into health insurance rates online?
--------------------
I did a lot of research on this, too. We pay about $400 a month for our family as well. The best deal you're going to get (price-wise and benefit-wise) is from your (or his) employer. Go with the work insurance.

Wouldn't you want everyone to have health insurance?

I mean if we are all forced to have car insurance why not health insurance. Why should people choose to have it or not? What kind of person doesn't want to take care of their body? The thing is every one should have health insurance because sickness has no boundaries. Germs spread when your sick and affects everybody. So no, health should not be a choice to someone because they affect more than themselves....well unless they are willing to live in a big plastic bubble.
--------------------
You are not forced to have car insurance, you can choose not to drive. If you have children you do not have to have car insurance for them. Car insurance is required if you CHOOSE to drive, but that insurance is not to protect you, it is to protect others, you are not required to have coverage on your own property though a lending institution may require it to protect their own interests. Why should a young health individual be required to have health care coverage? He is aware of the risks of not having it and then accepts that risk. Why should anyone pay between $300 and $1200 a month for insurance when the probabilities of using it is very low? Wouldn't you be better off saving that money and if you have to go to the doctor you can pay for the visit. Why do so many people support the right of a woman to choose but then want to deny others the right to choose whether or not they have health care. I now view abortion as a method of lowering your health care costs, you can choose to abort rather than to pay higher premiums and your insurance will pay for this choice. Health care will not stop the spread of sicknesses, it is up to an individual to go to the doctor and just having health insurance is no guarantee that they will do so. You seem to be going on the premise that if you have health care insurance, that you will not have to take any money out of your pocket except for the premiums. This is not true, you will have an annual deductible, maybe it is $500 a year, maybe it is $2,000 per year. You have to pay the deductible before the insurance pays anything at all. Even after you pay your deductible you will have to pay anywhere between 20 and 30% of the total bill. Lets say you have an angiogram, I had one so that is why I am using this as my example. The cost of the angiogram is $70,000. If your insurance costs you $5,000 per year and your deductible is $2,000 and has 80% coverage (you pay the other 20%) this procedure would cost you a total of $5,000 + $2,000 + 14,000 or a total of $21,000, assuming of course that this was your one an only usage of your insurance of the year. True, it is cheaper than paying $70,000, but do can you afford $21,000 anymore than you can afford $70,000 ? Now suppose you did not see the doctor at all during the year, do you have $5,000 you can throw away? If you said yes, then please send it to me, Now if you will show me a Federal Law that requires you to have car insurance, I will take back everything I have said.

Health insurance required for work?

Do any of you guys know if you need to be covered by health insurance to get a job? Is health insurance required to work? Thanks! --the job is at forever 21. i worked there last year and had insurance but i just turned 19 and my plan does not cover me anymore.
--------------------
Though there may be some jobs that are going to require you to have insurance coverage, that's not usually how it works. Most people actually get their health insurance coverage through their employers. If your employer doesn't offer health insurance benefits, then you can apply for and purchase a health insurance plan on your own. The best way to do that is to work through a licensed agent who knows the options available in your area. It doesn't cost anything extra to work through an agent, and you can find some online, too. I work for a company called eHealthInsurance.com and at our site you can get quotes from a broad selection of health insurance plans in your state. You can compare plans side by side to find the right match and apply for coverage online. If you want to talk with one of our licensed agents, give us a call at 1-800-977-8860. Good luck! Personal Health Insurance: who should obtain medical evidence?

My employer says this was not up to them but it was up to the insurance company to obtain it. Who should of obtained it. I myself provided evidence to my employers but they never sent it in with my claim.

YOU need to obtain it from your prior insurer.
