Why are there Americans who keep defending the unfair business practices of the health insurance companies?

Is there any other private industry that can have customers pay for a product for years and years and then when that customer needs the product they have been paying for the company can refuse to follow through with their contractual obligations? This is just one of the unscrupulous business practices that insurance companies are pulling on American consumers.........why are so many Americans defending this theft?
--------------------
What you describe is illegal Kelly. That is not happening. People sometimes do not understand what it is that they have purchased and become upset when coverage is denied or canceled. Best thing to do is read the contract before you sign. It will state what is covered and not covered. It will also state the terms under which the contract can be canceled. Read it you may be surprised at what you have bought. But in the end it is what you agreed to. Dirk - I am unaware of any State that requires mandatory car insurance. Please give an example.

Can I claim my daughter if she is on her fathers health insurance?

she was on mine before but i have a higher deductable and my ex boyfriend (daughters father) has better insurance. But we both agreed I can claim her. Will this affect both of us when we file taxes? or insurance have no effect on taxes?
--------------------
Whose health insurance your daughter is on makes no difference on taxes. She's your daughter, I assume [1] she lives with you, [2] she's under age 19, and [3] you support her (as opposed to her supporting herself), so you would claim her on your tax return. (Who she lives with is the big one here - the person she lived with the longest is the person who would claim her.) But insurance never comes into play when determining who claims a child's exemption. Hope that helped!

Can I make an appt with a dermatologist without having any health insurance?

I think I need to have a rather large mole on my neck sent for a biopsy and I do not have any insurance. I have a referal from my primary but I have heard that not only is it difficult to get an appt with a non-emergency request, but alos that a lot of doctors simply won't see someone without any insurance.
--------------------
Sure, you can make an appt with a dermatologist without insurance. Of course, you should expect them to ask how you are going to pay....

Health insurance should be more like car insurance, you pick the coverages and the deductibles to meet your?

The health-care debate has centered on the uninsured. That so many people do not have health insurance is a consequence of foolish government policies: regulations that raise the price of insurance, and a tax code that ensures that most people get their insurance through their employer. If you don't work for a company that provides health insurance, you're out of luck. People locked out of the insurance system still have access to health care. But they often end up in emergency rooms because they did not receive preventive care. For most people, however, it is another aspect of our employer-based health-care system that causes the most trouble: the insecurity it creates. People worry that if they switch jobs, they will lose their health insurance. They worry that their company will cut back on health benefits. Universal coverage is not necessary to address these worries. Making it possible for individuals to own their health-insurance policies themselves, rather than getting them through their companies, would solve the problem. It would also reduce the political momentum behind socialized medicine.
--------------------
Actually, individual health insurance is already that way. I could get you a policy with a zero deductible and I could get you a policy with a $25,000 deductible, and almost everything in between. You can get policies with unlimited doctor visits for a co-pay, limited doctor visits (2, 4, or 6 per year) for a co-pay, or no doctor visits. You can get policies with or without prescription coverage. You can get policies that have X-rays and lab work for a co-pay or that have X-rays and lab work subject to the deductible. You can get policies that cover maternity and policies that don't. The problem with the selection is that it makes health insurance very complicated. In my area there are nearly 1000 different options available to you. People try to find a policy using the internet to compare those 1000 plans instead of using an agent; then they get upset because the policy they got (usually because it's the cheapest) doesn't cover want they want covered. Group policies do have fewer options, but that is because nobody wants to pay for more options. You can get nearly all the options available to individuals in a group policy, but because of the mentality of the employees expecting every little sniffle to be covered the group policies are usually limited to one or two options for each employer.

For health insurance, has anyone dealt with IMAC Group LLC or Affiliated Workers Association? ?

I need health insurance and their plan is very reasonable but almost too good to be true. I havent found anything on Web except from their sites. If you've got any info, good or bad, please inform!! Thanks.
--------------------
I tried looking them up on the web also, not much there. I would call your states insurance commissioners office and verify their status. Make sure that the policy is truly insurance and not a "limited benefit health plan." Don http://mtnhealthinsurance.com

can health insurance raise rates for being sexually active?

i recently went to a nurse practitioner to look at something i thought was an STD, it wasn't. But she marked me down as being sexually active, will this affect my health insurance rates?
--------------------
No, your insurance rate will not go up because of that. In most cases, if it's private ins., they will raise your premium once you have been with them for 1yr, older the person is more expensive health insurance gets or if they make changes that would effect everyone.

I have a deductible on my health insurance what does it mean?

Alright i have bcbsil and they said that my deductible for the year is 300. now im confused as to what that means. and even what goes towards bringing that deductible down. in order for the insurance to pay. PLEASE GIVE ME DETAILS.
--------------------
For doctor visits you will pay your co-pay which does not count towards the deductible. The deductible is the amount you pay before the insurance company starts paying part of your medical bills. With BCBS anything beyond a Dr visit such as lab work, xrays, emergency room visit etc you will pay the first $300 per year. Once you meet that $300 the insurance company starts paying and you start paying your co-insurance percentage, with BC it is usually an 80/20 split. You pay 20% until you reach the maximum out of pocket for the year. If you have a family plan the deductible and max out of pocket only has to be met twice.

Why should it be a law that companies have to supply workers with health insurance?

They aren't your mommy & daddy. Shouldn't people be responsible for their own health care?
--------------------
The reason they made it into a law is because since the second world war access to health insurance has been supplied by employers, as a competitive benefit to get good workers. The other option was to supply health insurance to all and save loads of money doing so, but conservatives don't like that idea. They wanted to keep large numbers undeserving (read "brown-skinned") people from access to health care. Of course, the other reason why employers might want their employees to be insured would mean that they would be more productive workers and take less time off from work for preventable serious illnesses. Cutting off health care to employees in order to save money and be more profitable than competitors, essentially firing people for getting sick, is a new conservative idea based on the idea that workers are disposable and don't deserve to live if they can't work. ?)

If I am resigning from my job, when will my health insurance end?

I wanted to get a couple of doctor's appointments in before I lose my insurance- does it end when I turn in my resignation letter or my last day of work? If anyone is familiar with 1199's union that would be really helpful! Thanks!
--------------------
The best thing you have going for you is COBRA,this law means that you can keep your company's health insurance for 36 months after you leave. You must pay what they pay for the insurance. Your insurance will end as of your last day on the job,but if you elect to keep your insurance then it continues as if you were still employed...Now you may have been paying zero or half while employed but that will end on your last day.I hope this helps you. jack

How much would health insurance be for me?

I'm 19, a non-smoker, with a body mass index of 19.9. I am in pretty good health, I did have spinal surgery when I was younger and corrective jaw surgery last summer but other than that no pre-existing conditions. I just got dropped from my parents coverage and the job I'm working doesn't offer me enough hours to be full time and get coverage so I have to buy my own, and I'm wondering how much that will cost.

This is the best idea ever. Only pre-existing conditions for children are covered, sorry Natoma, still no insurance for you

Plus it will cost 2 Trillion just to make that happen - gotta wonder where all the rest is going...

how can i get very cheap health insurance?

i am 18 yrs old, i go to school and i work at a place that doesnt have insurance and i really need to go to get my teeth pulled and i need to go to the doc for my stomach... how can i get free or very cheap health insurance?? cause i have no MONEY!!
--------------------
What kind of school do you go to - high school or college? Most colleges have some sort of health plan. You should ask at the health center or infirmary. Dental insurance is separate from health insurance and is much harder to come by and more expensive.

Why are we focusing on health insurance companies?

The health insurance industry makes a profit margin of about 3.3%. Hospital facilities are around 25%. If anyone disputes this, I will provide a source. Why are we focusing on the health insurance industry (the one that pays the doctor bills), rather than focusing on the doctors themselves? It's scary going to the doctor or into the hospital and you have no clue how high your bill is going to be. Shouldn't they tell you the price before they treat you? I mean come on, a cat scan does not cost $8000. It's not the health insurance industry that is charging us insane prices, it is the doctors and hospitals. Instead of demonizing the health insurance industry, why aren't we demonizing the doctors and hospitals that charge these prices?
--------------------
Well, first they tried to say our health care SYSTEM was broke and we ranked 800th in the world in care (just behind Sudan). But the fact is, we have excellent health care. Our hospitals and doctors are the best in the world. Our national survival rates for diseases like cancer are better than any country with Socialized/Nationalized/Government Health Care. *shhhh - don't let anyone know* The medical care professionals quickly rose up and looked to put up a rather staunch defense of their work. Obama quickly changed the tactic from condemning the health care profession to demonizing the health insurance industry. Yeah, those evil big insurance guys. Let's get 'em." Obama and the Liberals once again go after "The Big Guy" in defense of "The Little Guy" because "The Little Guy" is getting screwed. The fact is, "The Little Guy" is going to get screwed even worse by "Big Government" because with Big Gov you have even fewer choices and less power. You can sue an insurance company. It isn't easy but it can be done. Try suing Fed Gov.

health insurance. I want to visit the UK and france for a week?

I am planning to visit france and the UK for only a week and I am trying to apply for a visa. Do you think it is impossible to get the visas in a week or so? They say I have to have insurance in the application form, do I really need to?
--------------------
A visa is not necessary unless you're going to be there for more than three months. If you will be applying for a visa sometime, though, and if you don't have health insurance, then research travel insurance companies. There are several which offer you specialized insurance for travel, especially if you are travelling with a program or organization.

Why are only 32% willing to Pay Higher Taxes to Provide Health Insurance for All?

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_c… Thirty-two percent (32%) of American adults say they'd be willing to pay higher taxes so that health insurance could be provided for all Americans. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 54% say they're not willing to pay more in taxes.
--------------------
Why should I pay for someone else's health care? I pay enough in taxes already. Health care is a privilege, not a right. Let people go out and purchase it. Edit: Gotta love the libs attacking Rasmussen. They are widely known as the definitive and most accurate poll out there.

My wife is on my work's health insurance plan. Can she use my insurance card to go to the doctor?

They never sent her insurance cards even though she is on the plan. The agent said she would get her cards in 2 weeks and she never did. Then I went online to try and order the cards, and they just sent me duplicates of my cards, not hers. I e-mailed them yesterday about this annoying issue but haven't yet received a response. She needs to go to the doctor sooner rather than later. We use Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield.
--------------------
Sometimes they issue the card in the policy holders name. This happened to me with my husband's former job. He had Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois. He got his card but I never got one nor the kids. I kept waiting and was freaking out and upset. So, he called them and was told they give one card per family and that is with the policy holders name on it. However, we could request more cards but his name would be on it. They sent us cards and sure enough his name was on it. So, I go to the doctor and told them his employer changed providers and gave them the insurance card with his name on it. They took it and asked no questions. They made a copy and handed my card back to me. So they must be familiar with this now because apparently more than one provider is doing this now. So, tell your wife not to worry.

Very few pets are covered by health care insurance. This is a national crisis. Will Obama fix the problem?

Is Starbridge Health Insurance considered Creditable when applying for a policy with a different company?

Such as Blue Cross / Blue Shield.
--------------------
Most health coverage is creditable coverage, such as coverage under a group health plan (including COBRA continuation coverage), HMO, individual health insurance policy, Medicaid or Medicare. Creditable coverage does not include coverage consisting solely of excepted benefits, such as coverage solely for limited-scope dental or vision benefits. Days in a waiting period during which you have no other coverage are not creditable coverage under the plan, nor are these days taken into account when determining a significant break in coverage (generally a break of 63 days or more). This 63-day break period may be extended under state law if your coverage is insured through an insurance company or offered through an HMO. Check with your State Insurance Commissioner's Office to see whether a longer break period applies to you.

Someone told me that if you get fired from a job you can keep the health insurance til the end of that year.?

Someone told me that if you get fired from a job you can keep the health insurance til the end of that year. Is that true?
--------------------
What that person was probably talking about was COBRA insurance. This is something you pay for out of your pocket. You can keep it for up to 18 months after you leave a job if you qualify.

In a health insurance policy what does it mean about X amount $ for a deductible?

Also any suggestions on any other good yet affordable policies? I am looking at one from work $40 copay $800 deductible but I had better with a prior company. Also I would like dental,on this plan dental is extra at $18.The policy is Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama.
--------------------
I work for an insurance company and I must say...your BCBS policy through work sucks. A 800.00 ded through a work plan is awful. Maybe the x amount for $ deductible means the amount of money you have to pay before your insurance starts to pay out your benefits or , if I am not understanding your question correctly, you may can pay something different for a different ded amount. Many insurance companies offer free quotes on-line. Just look through a search engine for health insurance.
