How do you deal with depression and anxiety when you no longer have health insurance and cannot afford to pay?

full price for prescriptions? I don't have health insurance as of the new year. My problem is that I am taking three different prescriptions for depression and anxiety, (Wellbutrin XL, Effexor XR, and Ativan) and I can simply not afford to pay full price for them (around $250.00 per prescription). Does anyone have any advice on what I can do to help myself? I am already mentally prepared for withdraw, I just don't want to end up feeling hopeless and worthless. Any advice would greatly be appreciated. Thanks.
--------------------
I have been trying to treat mine without prescripts: start by watching what you eat (healthy eating makes you feel better...) and try to work out more often. Contact the local county mental health department and find a therapist who offers services on a "sliding scale" so weekly/biweekly sessions are more within your means. Professional help is essential to helping you solve this problem. In addition, keep a journal: this is key to helping your therapy work best ~you can review it and see what your consistent issues are.. and try to figure out what some of the causes are.. I have also been taking vitamins, fish oil and consistently doing yoga/stretching to try to keep my "stress" levels down.. Also, family/friend support is helpful too: let them know you are having a tough time and want their help and support to get through it. If you are religious, this may be a time to reach out to that community also or if you are not (like me), it may be time to find a group which fits your beliefs. Also, find new hobbies. It is good if they are social, but even if they are solitary and you enjoy them: hobbies give you something to look forward to and distract you (ps: tv doesn't count!!) I've had friends come down off prescrips and it isn't fun.. just remember you are in charge of your health: mentally and physically!

Can an Expecting Father get health insurance?

I applied for health insurance with Cigna and they called me today to say that my rate would increase by 25% because 2 months ago, my doctor prescirbed a very limited quantity of xanax for occasional stress. I told the underwriter that I was just stressed because my fiancee was pregnant. She called me back 10 minutes later and told me they were denying coverage because my fiancee is pregnant. How is this legal? Does anyone have a similar story? Can someone recommend health insurance that will accept me if my fiancee is pregnant?

Who will my health insurance company call?

I have health insurance under my parents in which I need 12 units of classes in order to stay on the policy. I took a semester off school so that I could work and now the insurance company needs my class schedule. Im scared I'll get kicked off my parents insurance for not being enrolled in class this semester. Will the insurance call my parents or are they going to call my school? Can I explain to the insurance people that i'll be back as a full time student next semester? I feel terrible and Im not sure what to do about this.

Are any of the health insurance companies on-line good?

I am 26 Years old and I don't have health insurance. I was looking online and saw that there a alot of health insurance plans you can buy online. I was thinking about doing this but I wasn't sure how safe and legitamet it was. So if there is anyone who has had experiences good or bad please help me out.
--------------------
Depending on where you reside there are several options that are very good. And some of these you can purchase on line. mbrcatz17 is being a little over cautous in this case. We have several carriers that are on our website that you can purchase on line - and they are legit. A good rule of thumb is to stay with the bigger named carriers like: Blue Cross, Wellpoint, United Healthcare, Aetna, Humana etc. Dont fall for the no-name company's. Most of the above carriers offer the ability for you to purchase on line, directly through the carrier website - or through the agent/brokers website. When people purchase insurance through our website with out contacting us it really bothers me. The reason is there are so many options availble and so many differences between the plans that it always helps to use a local agent/broker that has knowledge and understanding of the plans that are in your area. Hope this helps!

No health insurance & looking to see a psychiatrist?

I have tried looking it up on my own to no avail. I do not have health insurance but feel like I need to get a little help stabilizing my moods. Websites would help. I live in the Houston, TX area.
--------------------
I agree it is very difficult to find free counseling on the web for your area. Besides trying churches in your area, I have one additional recommendation that you could try. NAMI is the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill. They have the best resources, support and information available anywhere in the US. If you go to the links I have provided and click on Resources, you will be able to review what sources available in your area. The first link is to NAMI in metropolitan Houston. The second link is to NAMI in West Houston. The third link is a direct link to the Mental Health Association of Greater Houston. They should have the information about all the providers in the area and whether or not any of them are free. NAMI might be able to advocate to get you some free counseling or send you in the right direction if you are unable to get some so don't rule them out if you really need help. Good Luck!

how can i afford health insurance while my husband is layed off?

we have no health insurance right now.

Medical Discount Plan ideal for those who cannot afford or qualify for traditional health insurance. The companies offer discounted health services for a quite low monthly fee. Benefits include a range of discounts for doctors, hospitals, dental, vision, prescriptions, vitamins, as well as other health services. Short Term Medical Plans This plan is ideal for individuals in transition. Maybe you have just graduated from college and are no longer covered under your student health insurance or you moved out on your own, and you're no longer covered under your parents' medical insurance plan. Or perhaps you're employed part-time, going to school, leaving home for the first time, or even retiring early. Maybe you've found a new job, but your new employer's group health insurance plan won't kick in until you've been with months. Common situation you met like many other people,be patient, and check the resource here    www.HealthInsuranceIdeas.info    i found very useful for me to solve my similiar problem.

The minor child of the Biological father is covered in Michigan under his step dads health Insurance now if?

he comes down to vacation with his biological father in Florida he is still covered, the father would just need a copy of the health insurance card Correct ?
--------------------
It shouldn't matter to what state the minor child travels to. He will still be covered by the health insurance. Yes, the father should have a copy of the insurance card, but even without it he would be covered. It would just make the process go so much easier if a visit had to be made to a doctor or medical facility with the card, of course. A lot of health insurance companies these days do have restrictions about which doctors you can go to, etc., but if it's an emergency it will be covered. You might want to call the health insurance company and question them about the details.

Will I lose my health insurance if I defer my enrollment?

I got accepted to NYU for Fall 2009. I paid all of my deposits and now I just don't think I will ever have spending money or be able to get loans. I am thinking about deferring my enrollment for a year, to save up money for books and spending and build my credit so I can get loans. After a year I'll just transfer to a SUNY school and finish out there. I'm just wondering if I will lose my health and dental insurance by waiting a year to go to school?
--------------------
If you are insured under your parent then yes you may lose your insurance unless there is clause that allow for the coverage of dependent children until age 25. Check you health insuracnce policy

Where to find a psychiatrist with no health insurance in Tampa, FL.?

I'm looking for a psychiatrist in the Tampa area but I have no health insurance and little to no money to spend in general. If anyone has any links or resources they could provide I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!
--------------------
Are you sure you need a psychiatrist? I'd check with your doctor first and get evaluated. Tell him your situation and he'll probably direct you to the right person. It would be difficult without insurance though. They're pretty pricey. If all else fails, use the yellow pages! Good Luck to you though. :]

What can happen if someone finds my Drivers License, Health and Auto Insurance cards?

I lost my Drivers License, Auto Insurance Card, and Health Insurance Membership card. If someone found these items together what could they do with them? Could they use my health insurance to get treatment or rack up accidents on my auto insurance? Open Credit cards in my name? etc.
--------------------
You should call your health insurance company and ask them for a new policy number. You should also call your credit card companies and report your cards stolen.

If Republicans think going to the emergency room is enough for health care why do they have insurance?

The fact is, health insurance provides better long term care with your insurance company picking up much of the cost.

Do you think the health insurance bill will become law?

Simple question. and you notice i called it health insurance rather than heath care as it has almost nothing to do with the enhancement of care, but rather how to pay for it, or more specifically, make those who don't want or need it pay for those who do.
--------------------
I think so, but what gets passed will be so watered down as to be toothless. At least it is a start, and I hope we can improve on it from there. You can bet the conservatives will continue doing all they can to keep it from passing, but I have a strong hunch Obama will do all he can to get it to pass. ##

Can health insurance company drop you if you making COBRA payments on time?

My sister is in a nursing home. I have been paying her COBRA since December. The nursing home called and "warned" us to find a medicaid facility because her health insurance will probably drop her. Why?
--------------------
I do not believe this is a COBRA question but an allowed coverage situation. Medical insurance covers treatment expenses, such as for physical therapy or other skilled care when a person is in a nursing home, as long as they are making continuous improvement. When a person is no longer improving but still needs assistance this is called custodial care and is not covered by medical insurance or Medicare.

why do people get health insurance if if is such a bad deal? everyone complains that they rip them off and?

dont cover conditions that they were supposed to cover. so wouldnt it make more sense to not get health insurance and just save your own money?
--------------------
I've never had problems with my health insurance, they've always paid up. My husband is in and out of the hospital and we pay only what the plan specifies---200 ded and 20% up to $5000. I had an even better plan but had to change now that I live in one state and my family in another.

Why do liberals keep on attacking Private Health Insurance?

If you took ONE YEAR of all the Private Health Insurance Companies in America gave that one year of Profits to buy all Americans health insurance it would last only TWO DAYS! Their Profits have NOTHING TO DO WITH YOUR LIBERAL POLITICIANS! They are only using you guys to help them DESTROY the Private Sector so they can CONTROL IT ALL! WAKE UP WILL YOU? PLEASE? BEFORE ITS TOO LATE?
--------------------
Please, wake up. Private insurance companies are not the friends of health care and they could care less if someone has health care. They are a bunch of phonies who set up business under the guise of non profit. The only ones who should be making a profit from medical care are the medical practitioners not the paper pushing statistic crunchers. Plain and simple they are useless middlemen who do no better or no worse than medicare. If you are lucky to have good insurance you do not notice the problem because you pay them and they do what they need to do. If you do not have good insurance or have some sort of pre-exisitng problem, you are sunk. The problem that Americans have is that we have not made up our minds as to whether we believe that the right to have health care is a right of citizenship. Right now our insurance system deems it as a privilege for those who can afford it. The hardcore conservatives might as well just say it - only those who can afford insurance have the right to life. Lets not beat around the bush any more. Call it what it is.

Has Obama's health care plan for medical insurance kicked in yet?

I really want to drop a Spanish class I'm taking at a community college because I was only taking it to have 12 units to be a full-time student, and I only wanted to be a full-time student because otherwise I wouldn't be covered under my mom's health care plan. But if Obama's health care reform thing has kicked in, where people are covered under their parents' health insurance until they're 26, I don't need it. So has it started yet? Authoritative links as proof are greatly appreciated.
--------------------
For most people, no, not yet. The plan should be in full effect by 2014. Right now, 2 important things have changed. Kids up to age 26 are able to stay insured on their parents' plans. They do NOT have to be living with them or dependents. They can even be married, just have no health insurance. The second thing that has happened is that now children cannot be denied insurance for pre-existing conditions. It is hard to wait for the other things to happen. I think when everyone is able to have access to affordable insurance, people will be happier about it. Think they will find out it is not as bad as it is being made out to be. Plus, as it begins, if there are things wrong with it, it can be modified. We have to all have access to health care that doesn't destroy us financially. For you, you can stay on your mom's plan now. You do not have to be in school.

Want to buy Health Insurance for Green card holders senior citizen parents?

We want to buy /purchase Health Insurance for Green card holders senior citizen parents. Can anybody please help with some good Health Insurance Agencies/companies/policy suggestions . Also wanted to know approximately what will it cost us. Father is 67 year old . and mother is 60 year old . Please advise. Thanks to all in advance
--------------------
If your father has lived in the U.S. for five years, he should be eligible for Medicare. He might have to pay a premium, though. The Medicare website says: "You will be eligible to apply for Medicare if you have paid into Social Security for at least 10 years or you are eligible to receive Social Security benefits on your spouse's earnings. If you do not meet these requirements, you can still get Medicare hospital insurance (Part A) by paying a monthly premium if you are a citizen or a lawfully admitted alien who has lived in the U.S. for at least five years. Also, anyone who is age 65 and a citizen or a lawfully admitted alien with five years of residency in the United States can sign up for Medicare Part B medical insurance and pay a monthly premium." Since your father did not sign up during the initial enrollment period at age 65, he will have to wait until the next General Enrollment Period, which is between January 1 and March 31 each year. There are exceptions to this, so contact Medicare. Your mother will not be eligible for Medicare until she reaches 65. The easiest thing to do for her is to log on to a website like http://www.healthinsurancewiz.com and fill out a form requesting a quote. Her info will be sent to a health insurance broker who will contact her. A broker works with several health insurance companies, and can find the best deal. Brokers need referrals and a good reputation to stay in business, so they only work with reputable companies. There is no charge for the service and no obligation to buy.

Why Will Companies Keep Offering Health Insurance?

Why Will Companies Keep Offering Health Insurance? Who here believes that if Universal Health Benefits are offered through the US government to all US citizens that companies and employers will continue to offer health insurance benefits to their employees as a payroll/benefits expense. Do you really believe companies will continue to pay such a large amount of overhead when they can simply stop offering those benefits and let the government program take over? What employer in their right mind would keep dishing out $500 a month per employee when the government is begging to take that system over? If you think "Yes", please tell me why.
--------------------
Well, some particularly prosperous employers, in businesses that demand certain high-demand skills, would certainly still offer superior health benefits (as well as stock options and multimillion dollar bonuses) to those sorts of employees. Asside from that, though, you could expect most employers to cut costs by eliminating health benefits on the theory that the government will pick it up. Currently, health insurance is a highly desireable benefit, so much so that many people take a specific job /just/ to get health insurance, even if the pay is substantially lower than another job without insurance. There are several reasons. 1) Many people who have 'pre existing conditions' can't get affordable health insurance outside a 'group' plan like that offered by an employer, 2) Many people have lived thier whole lives insured, and virtually panic without insurance, since they simply don't understand how to make health care decisions and manage thier own health care expenses, 3) (and this is a biggie), employer-provided health insurance is automatically deducted, pre-tax. It's not just a 'deduction' (you can deduct a lot of your medical expenses, but it's complicated, and you don't get to deduct all of them), but an off-the-top exclusion. It's income you never have to report, at all.
