Voluntary health insurance: you voluntarily choose to have other people pay your bills?

Why do those who are pro-insurance seem to forget that other people are paying off their medical bills through their premiums? What happened to conservatives paying their own way in life? Hey republicans and conservatives: how about you pay your medical bills and I'll pay mine, and we do away with insurance.
--------------------
It might indeed have been better if things had remained that way. Health insurance was, after all, quite unusual before World War II. Two of the effects of the expanding insurance industry have been (1) costs have outstripped the rate of inflation by a good margin and (2) philanthropy, with the wealthy donating entire hospitals at times, has essentially disappeared from the scene. I don't quite see how the clock could be turned back, though.

Is it constitutional for the Federal Government to mandate that all individuals purchase health insurance?

This provision of the health care bill seems unsupportable to me. I don't know what constitutional authority such a requirement would be enacted under.
--------------------
no, and neither is providing healthcare to the american people. but since precedent has been set, there may not even be recourse in the SCOTUS now to stop this.
Source

Do you really believe republican leaders are opposed to forcing Americans to buy health insurance?

After engineering the health care industry, this is their dream come true. And when people complain, they can blame it on Democrats. Are you fooled by their phony "opposition"?
--------------------
HUH? You obviously have not read the bill. Hell yes they are opposed...to the bill... Yes they are opposed to forcing folks to pay for your insurance...had nothing to do with them buying insurance it is paying for YOU to have free insurance..and making them pay for others to get the same insurance but not pay the same..it is SOCIALISM.. It is all the Government agencies created..the bloated convoluted system that will force out private insurance.. You do not know anything... You have not read the bill... It is about giving UNIONS a pass on healthcare (for votes) and letting the taxpayer foot the bill. You really don't know about the bill it is about allowing Muslims to not have to buy health insurance... yea you sure did not know that now did you?

Can health insurance (no dental) cover braces in some cases?

For example, central and lateral incisors are crowded. Both have moved a significant amount, causing a change in the bite (can basically not use the front teeth to bite). In something so extreme, can health insurance cover the braces needed to repair?

Is medicade considered group or individual health insurance?

I am pregnant and was enrolled in Medicade. Late in 2007, I started a new job, and now I am not qualified to remain in Medicade because of my increased income. I have obtained an Bluecross Blueshield insurance policy, but I am worried that they will treat the pregnancy as a pre-existing condition and I would not be protected under HIPAA. Please help.
--------------------
Pregnancy cannot be included as a pre-existing condition on a group policy, even if you didn't have any previous coverage, so as long as your new policy includes maternity coverage you will be covered.

Do you know of a good health insurance plan?

I need to find a plan that is affordable outside a group plan or is there a group plan available to me? I do not want the discount card type of plan I want an actual insurance policy accepted by many doctors and hospitals. 80/20 coverage is great with annual deductible choices.
--------------------
nope! all health insurance plans are a rip of! move to canada

What do you think of being forced by government to buy health insurance at exhorbitant premiums?

this is great for insurance companies, but is it change you can believe in? How will you thank Obama and Democrats in Washington DC (since the are the ones who control govt and did in fact promise change) for selling your soul to insurance companies? I am not a Republican. I am just someone who sees the reality of what is happening to the american people and who believes that both Democrats and Republicans are following an anti american citizen agenda..
--------------------
It amounts to a regressive tax that is not called a tax and not paid directly to the government. Politicians like the idea because it won't impact the budget, but they will still get to use your money for their purposes. Financially, I think it will mean disaster for many families.

Can health insurance deny claim after pre-authorization

How likely is it & under what circumstances can a health insurance company deny a claim if they had pre-authorized the treatment earlier.
--------------------
Yes, its possible that a claim can be denied after a pre-authorization. But only under very specific circumstances. For example... If you have a change in coverage between the time that the service was pre-authorized and the time the service happens. If your coverage is canceled completely. (You need to be eligible for insurance coverage on the date the services are actually done.) If it is determined that your pre-authorization was fraudulent. (ex- you or your doctor submitted false information to get the approval) If the services you have done and your provider bills for don't match up with the pre-authorization. (Ex - you get pre-auth for one specific type of surgery, but you actually have something slightly different.) If you get pre-authorization for a specific doctor to do a service, but end up having a different doctor do the service without notifying the insurer in advance. Those are just some examples. Basically if you have the exact same procedure that was pre-approved and absolutely nothing has changed about the terms of your coverage on the policy, you should be fine. The problems that could arise come from either a change in your policy/coverage or a change in the procedure that was actually done.

Are you one of the 47 million Americans without health insurance?

Now that the details (sort of) have been put forth concerning Health Care who's plan appears to benefit YOU the most?
--------------------
I do have health insurance...but I might as well not have it. I can afford my monthly premiums, but my deductibles and copays are so high, I still cannot afford health care. I have a mouth full of cavities and missing teeth--and I cannot pay to have them fixed. I support Obama's plan. The McCain plan is the equivalent of giving Big Businesses an extra $7000 for each employee yearly

does anyone know of any good personal health insurance in Minnesota?

I am currently covered under my dad's but will be graduating at the end of sept. and will no longer be covered, and my fiance also needs some as he is starting a new job and will not recieve their health insurance until October. THANKS!
--------------------
If your fiance had coverage with the previous employer, he has COBRA rights. His previous employer should have sent him notification within 14 days of his termination date. If he has not received the information, have him contact the previous employer and request COBRA continuation until his coverage becomes effective in October. Otherwise, call around. BCBS, Medica, are a couple I know of that have individual coverage. If his previous employer was not large enough for COBRA, then he would need to check into Minnesota State Continuation. In that situation, too, talk to the employer.

Is it really possible for every American to have Health Insurance?

When President Clinton was running his first term, he promised that everyone will have health coverage. John Kerry said the same and now Brack Obama is promising it as well. I am not happy with the current system. I pay a little over $400 a month through my employer who pays a partial. If you are poor in this country its free. Is there a way to fix the system or will we just keep voting for the guy who says he can make it happen?
--------------------
Sure we can have it like Canada and England but who wants crappy health care run by the gov't where people wait in lines for care and many die from things that are easily preventable it is not the governments place to provide us with health care... people need to take care of themselves

health insurance group - Do I have to give medical records?

I am going to buy a small business. I will be offering group health insurances do I, or any of my employees have to give medical records to my insurence company? Thank you
--------------------
Some insurance company's require each enrollee to fill out health questionnaire. It asks for age, medications, surgeries etc. Not a good idea to lie since in some cases they will request medical records from the doctor. They do this due to having to cover a pre-existing condition. And your rates my depend on the health of your employees. Its not a bad idea to have someone price out all of the policies in your area to get you the best rate. Also COSE may be able to help you as well.
Source

Why can't small businesses in each state group together to get better and more affordable health insurance?

Who regulates this? The insurance companies? The large companies? It doesn't make sense that this cannot be done.
--------------------
cause there are laws that govern that sort of thing...and trust me they are set up to protect insurance companies and enhance profits. Also...even larger plans these days are nothing to brag about.....its easy to find a family coverage out there that is very crappy and where the employer and employee are paying over $18,000 a year to cover just 3 family members.

What make you people think hilary is going to do some thing about the health insurance.?

hilary did crap when she was with bill.health insurance is like the pharmaceutical co.in the stock market. it.s all about makeing money forget about the little guy.
--------------------
Well she tried and Congress knocked her down. Bet she'd do it this time. But who's gonna' pay?
Source

If you have a choice between the new government health insurance and private, which are you going to choose?

How will it effect private insurance? Will a lot of employers drop their plans, hoping that the government will cover everybody now?
--------------------
Simple economics. The tax imposed on employers for not covering their employees is less than the cost of providing insurance, which will cause many employers to drop the plan, especially if the economy is bad when the bill becomes effective. Some employers will "carve out" management and offer them private group coverage and let the regular employees fend for themselves. There will also still be private group plans for union workers because the unions will demand the superior coverage. Of course, government workers will still have private coverage. Current private individual plans will vanish because they will not be allowed to add new members. Through attrition the plan membership will become so small that it will not be economically feasible to continue the plans. Private companies that offer exchange qualified plans will be available but the cost will be much higher. This is because the government option uses Medicare doctors and pays the doctors and hospitals Medicare rates plus 5%, which is 50% to 70% of what private companies pay.
Source

Why should it be an employers responsibility to supply health insurance to their employees?

Shouldn't an individual be responsible for his own health?
--------------------
It shouldn't be. And in fact it would be better for people if it weren't, since then they would retain consistent coverage from job to job. I believe it started as a perk to get and keep employees then ultimately turned into an expectation for any sizable company.

Where do I go to apply for state provided health insurance in Orgeon?

I've recently found myself without insurance and I'm fairly certain that my income qualifies me for the programs offered. I live in St. Johns in Portland OR. I also think I could qualify for SSI and for an Oregon Trail Card(food stamps for anyone who doesn't live in OR). I'm not trying to take advantage of the government or the system, I'm just trying to feed my family and give us clothes to wear so any help on where to go or what to do would help.
--------------------
One place to start is with DHS (the Department of Health Services). They are the administrators for the Oregon Health Plan that you asked about. They have their eligibility posted on their website. For other help with where to go, starting here should get you started on finding out about what's available from the state. For local servies, I would recommend posting a question under travel >U.S. > Portland as there will probably be locals that could help with local resources.

what's the cheapest and best health insurance?

Can anyone tell me what's the cheapest and best health insurance for the money in the 94704 area? I'm aiming for a $100 a month or cheaper. Thanks!
--------------------
You get what you pay for. There is no "best health insurance" in the price range you seek. At $100 dollars a month, you're going to get a very narrow band of coverage. Yes, it's cheap but aweful. Good (though really Poor) heath coverage (none of the plans are that good anymore) starts at about $9,000 a year up to $14,000 a year. And, with this bargain price (cough), unless you can stay completely inside an HMO plan (i.e. you're really healthy or do not really seek a solution to your ailments), you'll be putting up a large hefty co-payment and/or out-of-network charges yourself. Welcome to America!

For those of you who can't afford health insurance, why can you afford internet?

If you can't afford health insurance, why can you afford internet and a computer? What about your cell phone and the phone service? Your TV and cable? Surely you have all of these, and you must also have some other nice things as well. Maybe a nice DVD collection or some nice furniture. Why don't you get rid of all of the luxuries you have, and then see if you can afford health insurance. No more TV, no more movies, no more phone, internet, computer, nice furniture, etc.
--------------------
Because the health insurance companies are thieves, and I wouldn't give one dime to them unless I had to. They prey on uncertainty to steal people's money and they play dirty tricks with coverage. I don't mind paying into a single-payer system. The necessity to shop around goes away and everyone is covered, from birth to death. I'd rather have all the nice things you've stated above than to waste my money on health insurance companies. It would be stupid for someone like me to throw away my money with health insurance companies.

Can anyone explain the copay option in my health insurance?

My United Healthcare insurance policy states that i have to pay a Copay of $35 for History and Exam for my primary and specialist doctor. Does it mean that i only have to pay that amount every time i visit the doctor?
--------------------
yes, more than likely the $35 is your standard co-pay for any dr visit. emergency room visits are usually more like $100. as long as any blood work, xrays, stress tests, etc are done in office that should be all you have to pay for the visit. the copay usually does not go toward your deductible though,so if you have to have surgery you will have to meet your full deductible.

are health insurance companies held responsible to anyone?

I have child health plus for my child and they canceled without any notification, this doesn't seem right.
--------------------
Yes. Contact your state Insurance Commission. They are unbelievably thorough in every state, and they have to follow up on all complaints, requiring the insurance company to spend time and money answering to an investigation. Sometimes just telling an insurance carrier that you are going to contact the commission will change their behavior very quickly.

Why do I get charged extra for health insurance because I smoke?

Fat People can eat whatever they want and pay no extra. I don't mind paying extra because I know it is a health risk and I chose to smoke. But if you are going to charge me extra then charge the fat chick that can't stop eating McDonalds! I am sure that I will have health problems in the future if I don't quit but obese people are always going to the doctor for problems due to being fat. When I go to the doctor they tell me I am in the top percentile of health for people my age.
--------------------
Stop smoking! This method works for me and is the only money back guaranteed. I quite smoking 2 years ago Get the Facts Easyway, founded by Allen Carr in 1983, has the highest independently verified 12-month success rate (75.8% for a smoker completing the program) of any quit smoking technique and a 90% satisfaction rating. Compare Easyway to other methods and see for yourself why Easyway is called "The Cadillac of quit smoking methods." The Allen Carr Method HOW THE METHOD WORKS Using psychotherapy, the method works in the opposite way to the "willpower" method. It does not concentrate on the reasons the smoker should not smoke : the money, the slavery, the health risks and the stigma. Smokers know all that already. Instead it focuses on why smokers continue to smoke in spite of the obvious disadvantages. It is fear that keeps smokers hooked! Fear the smoker will have to give up their pleasure or crutch. Fear the smoker will be unable to enjoy life or handle stress. Fear the smoker will have to go through an awful trauma to get free. Fear the smoker will never get completely free from the craving. The Method removes these fears Smokers quit with the Allen Carr Method as happy non-smokers, not feeling deprived but with a huge sense of relief and elation that they have finally achieved what they always wanted…. TO BE FREE! What about the terrible withdrawal pangs from nicotine? The physical withdrawal from nicotine is so slight that most smokers don't realise that they are addicts. What smokers suffer when they try and quit using other methods is the misery and depression caused by the belief that they are being deprived of a pleasure or a crutch. The Allen Carr Method removes this feeling of deprivation. It removes the need and desire to smoke. Once the smoker is in the right frame of mind and they follow the simple instructions, the physical withdrawal from nicotine is hardly noticeable. No Gimmicks! The Method does not use any gimmicks, useless aids or substitutes. No nicotine gum, patches, lozenges, tabs, inhilators or nasal sprays! No needles! No lasers! No drugs! No herbs! No shock treatment! The Allen Carr Method is successful because: It removes the smokers' conflict of will. There are no bad withdrawal pangs. It is instantaneous and easy. It is equally effective for long-term heavy smokers and light smokers. You need not gain weight. You will not miss smoking. Medical Endorsements A personal view from Professor Judith Mackay MBE, JP, FRCO (Edin), FRCP (Lon), World Health Organisation Advisory Panel on Tobacco and Health "I have no hesitation in supporting Allen Carr's work. Many clinics use some of his techniques but it would appear that few do it in quite such a successful package." Carole Johnson, Coronary Heart Disease Prevention Unit, Tyne Tees "his success rate was such that, when budgets allow, we continue to use Easyway for work with specific groups and individuals." Dr Anil Visa BSc, MBBch., FRCA, Consultant – Royal Hospitals NHS Trust – Royal London Hospital "I have observed the Allen Carr method at first hand and have found it to be very successful and I wholeheartedly support it as an effective way to quit smoking." Dr William Green, Head of Psychiatric Dept, Matilda Hospital, Hong Kong "It is a remarkable fact that Allen Carr, on his own admission a non-professional in behaviour modification, should have succeeded where countless psychologists and psychiatrists holding postgraduate qualifications have failed, in formulating a simple and effective way to stop smoking." Dr Martin Jarvis, Principle Scientist, Imperial Cancer Research Fund and Reader in Health Psychology, University College London "...I am more than happy to testify to Allen Carr's enduring involvement and to recognise the value of the kind of behavioural and cognitive support he provides." Dr PM Bray MB CH.b., MRCGP "I was really impressed by the method. In spite of the Allen Carr organisation's success and fame, there were no gimmicks and the professional approach was something a GP could readily respect. I would be happy to give a medical endorsement of the method to anyone." Celebrity Endorsements "His method is absolutely unique, removing the dependence on cigarettes, while you are actually smoking. I'm pleased to say it has worked for many of my friends and staff." Sir Richard Branson "Some friends of mine who had stopped using Allen Carr's method suggested I tried it. I did. It was such a revelation that instantly I was freed from my addiction. Like those friends of mine, I found it not only easy but unbelievably enjoyable to stay stopped." Sir Anthony Hopkins GOOD LUCK!

Low Cost Individual Health Insurance - Is It for Real?

I'm thinking about starting a business but I'm worried about health coverage for myself and my family. At work, our health plan is so expensive (if I had to pay for the whole thing), so I'm cautious about the cheap insurance I see advertised all over the place. Is low cost individual health insurance for real or a scam? What do I have to watch out for in looking for coverage? Thanks.
--------------------
Low cost individual health insurance can be for real - just make sure you know what coverage you're getting first. I'd recommend that you look closely at the level of coverage provided by your employer plan and make sure that the quote you get is close to matching that coverage (unless you don't need it of course). Individual plans may be cheaper because they have a higher deductible, or don't cover certain services (maternity is frequently left off of these plans). Also, with group insurance (what a large employer has), everyone gets the same rate of coverage, regardless of past medical history. This could be why your employer plan is higher cost (if you're young and healthy). If you're older and prone to illness, an employer plan could provide huge savings. These are just a few things to consider. There are actually a lot of additional tips online. Check out http://www.low-cost-individual-health-insurance.org if you want to find some additional things to look out for and some good, reputable sites to get quotes from. Good luck with your business if you decide to go for it!
