Health Insurance?

anybody got any good advice am looking for health insurance my husband retires soon and we will need to get our own Health insurance. looked at blue cross and health partners but it so expensive anyone no anyone more affordable ty for any info.
--------------------
You'll have to shop around to find a plan or plans for you and your husband. You could try using the internet if you have the time to compare over 1000 plans that are available or you could visit a local independent agent. The agent knows the market in your area and can find something that fits your situation. The premium using the agent is the same as the premium buying on the internet but you get their expertise. If you have less than two years before Medicare and only need catastrophic coverage you could try a short term medical plan. The agent will be able to help you there as well. Be very wary of medical discount plans. The people that sell these plans have little or no knowledge of health insurance and do not need to be licensed. The plans are not regulated so you have little recourse when problems with the plan arise. If you are tempted by these plans get a list of doctors before signing up. Call the doctors to verify that they're still taking the plan (many will not even know they are listed as a provider) and that they're taking new patients. Here is an informative link http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/consu… concerning these plans.

health insurance?

im 21 years old i dont know anything about health insurance what affordable insurance would you recommend?? i want to get braces
--------------------
Insurance does not cover braces. Around here in VA Braces cost about $5,000 and you usually pay the dentist about $250 per month until the treatment is completed. If you can enroll in a flexible spending account where you work you can have money for braces deducted from your pay check tax free. There are discount dental plans that may save you some money, but some don't cover ortho. (Goggle it) Try using yellowpages.com to search for health insurance brokers in your area they will offer dental as well. Don't call your auto and home agent they specialize in property and causality insurance. You need someone that specializes in health insurance. A Broker represents multiple carriers and can help you sort through all the different insurance companies and plan options in your state. Weather you have a dental plan or not visit a few orthodontist and for a free consultation. They will give you an idea the course of treatment they suggest and their price,

when having a job as a pharmacy clerk are you covered by health insurance?

I'm looking to get a job as a pharmacy clerk and I was wondering if the job as a pharmacy clerk covers employee's health insurance.
--------------------
Employee health insurance is something covered/ determined by whoever you work for and their terms. The large chains (CVS, Walgreens and grocers with pharmacies) all have employee health insurance but they have rules on who qualifies ( FT-40hrs/wk, PT employees who work a specified number of hrs per week), a small independent store may not have any benefits at all. The level of coverage also differs; employees in hospital pharmacies have better benefits than those in retail stores. Like any other job, the benefits are determined by the employer so you can't choose a profession based on whether or not you will be covered by an employer's policy. Always ask when negotiating salary being able to get covered by a good employer's plan is better than making another $1 or $2 per hour especially if they pay for part of it.

Health insurance for a student with Multiple Sclerosis?

Does anyone have any information on finding health insurance for a currently uninsured college student with Multiple Sclerosis? A friend of mine has been without medication for six months after losing his insurance and since it costs roughly $1500 a month it is impossible to earn that money on the side while attending college. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
--------------------
I strongly suggest that your friend contact the National Organization for Rare Disorders if he takes Copaxone. I have MS and they supplied my drug therapy for a number of years either free of charge or at the nominal fee of $50.00 to cover shipping and handling. Your friend should contact the National MS Society if he is on a drug therapy other than Copaxone to find out what agencies have available funds. They have always provided me with contacts to obtain my MS drugs at no cost or low cost. Most of my friends who have MS get assistance from the National Organization for Rare Disorders to assist in paying for their Copaxone. NORD will assist ANY individual with or without health insurance. It is imperative to apply early in the year before the funds dry up. You are welcome to email me if you wish.

Price Discrimination of women in health insurance?

Would you say that there is price discrimination in the private sector for womens health insurance, if so, what degree would it be? I'm guessing third degree. Obviously the prices are justified by the costs but still need to write a paper on which one it would be.
--------------------
I would argue that there is no price discrimination against women in health care. The insurance costs are calculated by actuaries based upon statistical data which supports the assumption that women incur more health care costs throughout their lifetime. Because women incur more costs, they are more expensive to insure and that additional cost should be reflected in their premium. If you do not adjust for that fact, men would actually be discriminated against because their insurance costs would rise due to the fact that the insurance companies have to compensate for the higher costs of women without being able to charge them a higher premium. Stating that gender discrimination exists in health care is tantamount to saying that poor driver's (driver's with accidents and moving violations) are discriminated against in auto insurance because they pay higher rates or that smoker's are discriminated against by the life insurance industry due to their higher rates. Insurance is a business of statistics. Insurance actuaries and underwriter's have a very difficult job in determining premiums that are affordable and allow the company to collect enough money to pay claims. If actuaries are not allowed to charge higher premiums to people who are a statistically higher risk to insure, then everybody pays the price through higher level premiums, and that's completely unfair to people who are a lower risk. You wouldn't want to pay the same for car insurance as somebody with three at-fault accidents and two DUI's. You wouldn't want to pay the same for life insurance as somebody with a history of heart disease and who smokes three packs a day. Why should a man have to pay as much for health insurance as a woman? I know that I'm making extreme comparisons, and that it's unfair to compare a woman's health care costs to the auto insurance costs of a terrible driver, but I'm just trying to make a point. For the record, men generally pay higher life insurance premiums than women because they have shorter average lifespans. It goes both ways.

When referring to health insurance what consists of 'specialized studies'?

I am trying to find decent health care coverage for a problem that I will be facing. I was told that I am able to visit doctors after 30 days of having the service, however, any specialized studies cannot be done until I have the plan for atleast 8 months. I need health insurance for maternity reasons. Although I am not pregnant, I am going to have to go to a fertility specialist to become that way. Is going to see fertility specialists considered 'specialized studies'? What does this mean.. studies? Any help is appreciated.
--------------------
Most insurance plans do not cover fertility or infertility treatments (the exceptions that I am aware of are group plans ) since they fall into the category of not medically neccessary. What does your agent say?

is payment of health insurance consider spousal support in the state of california ?

small claims court found that my x- wife should aquire the insurance before i would be required to pay the monthly amount. when i retired she demand payment for the last 16 years plus interest. [$16,000]. i agree to pay the the months she had aquired health insurance[$10,000]. she agree . now she wants me to declare this is not spousal support so she won't have to pay taxes.
--------------------
Well, I don't think it's spousal support, but I'm not a judge. I think this is a question for your attorney.

The FDIC has been successful since 1933 so why can't a government-run option to private health insurance be?

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) is independent agency of the federal government that is is funded by premiums that the banks pay. Government-run option to private health insurance will be funded by the premiums of the people who sign up for it.
--------------------
You are right if you mean that the FDIC has averted local bank runs by guaranteeing deposits. However, have you considered the other consequences? Guarantees, especially ones obtained politically, allow the people enjoying them to take on greater amounts of risk. Banks need not match their assets and liabilities since they believe that they will not be held liable for failing to meet their obligations. As a result, banks have perpetually lent short term and borrowed long term. This has affected the structure and timing of capital investment and has enlarged the boom-bust business cycle. With the 1999 repeal of Glass-Steagall prohibitions (also enacted in 1933) on combining deposit and investment banking, this distortion to the capital structure was enlarged further. Armed with funds from deposits, investment banks were able to take on even greater degrees of leverage and move the economy that much more. In general, political guarantees are dangerous. If the people receiving the guarantees could be regulated honestly and fairly, you might argue that they could be managed [1]. However, people receiving such guarantees tend to have resources at their disposal that allow them to effectively lobby the regulatory agencies and the ruling political bodies that govern them. The tendency, therefore, will be to reduce regulation or change its focus while retaining the guarantees. Focusing again more specifically on the FDIC, it has succeeded in averting local bank runs. It has not averted system-wide instability. To the contrary, it has contributed to it. Faced with the danger of runs, a bank would have greater incentive to guard the value of the currency that it issues. Freed from this proximate danger, banks are able to expand the monetary base with less regard for the true fundamental wealth represented by the money. While depositors have been freed from the danger of losing their deposits, they have been subjected to greater swings in the business cycle. If allowed to go on, the day could come (some think soon, though many of these have thought so since at least the 1970's) when there will be a run on the entire currency. People could discover that they are not certain what value is represented by a dollar and abandon it for other medium of exchange or even barter. Needless to say, this outcome would be chaotic and hardly worth the short-term gains of avoiding local runs. In conclusion, I have laid out less visible impacts of the FDIC. I doubt that I have provided enough support to get you to fully buy in, but I fear that writing too much more would lose the interest of most readers at a site like this. Even if you can not or will not follow all of my reasoning, I hope that you will consider the complexity of society. The impacts of institutions, especially ones held up by political will, are often difficult to trace. We should be very cautious before declaring a program such as the FDIC a success. In my view, while it has achieved its stated aims, it has been horribly disruptive to society and could prove to be disastrous as it props up government money that has been made unstable. An analysis of government-run health insurance, naturally, would focus on different specific features. But the basics are the same. Pay attention, especially, to the influence of special interest lobbies on regulatory agencies and political bodies. There will always be a push to influence large amounts of money that is politically directed. We are fooling ourselves if we think that political management can be moved away from these special interests. And again, there is a broader discussion on the economics of political management to which I have only alluded.

Would you quit your current job if you could keep the health insurance you have now?

Would you quit your job if you could keep the health insurance you have now while unemployed or doing a different job? My theory is that if this were so, most people would quit their jobs and do what they want to do, not what they have to do to keep their health insurance.

Maybe when I'm 55 and can draw my pension, until then, I'll keep my job and insurance. I have a great job--I've got a front row seat to the greatest show on earth.

Need only two classes to graduate next semester, but need four classes to be covered under health insurance?

I only need two classes to graduate next semester, however, I need four classes to be considered a full-time student, and be covered under my fathers health care insurance. I am covered under Cal-vet which pays for any tuition expense, meaning I don't pay per unit. Do I only need to show proof of full-time once at the beginning of semester? or do they check. I really do want to go to classes that I don't need to go.
--------------------
If you are not a full time student and your father leaves you on his insurance and it is provided by his employer, then if you get caught he will probably be out of a job. Not worth it. Take the classes.

--------------------
No. I keep my job for several reasons, one of which is the paycheck I get which pays for the roof over my head and all my other expenses, including insurance. If I wanted another job I would do what everyone else who is not independently wealthy does - search for a new job while keeping the one I have until I receive a new job offer with a company I prefer. I doubt too many people have the luxury of being able to afford not having any income while they search for new employment.

Is it really in the health care bill to put people in jail just because they don't have insurance?

Health Insurance?

Here is what I support Universal Health Care. I am a single Mom. I actually make amazing money compared to most. It is not a lot. But like 2000 a month. More than enough. I have a child. I choose not to find a job that has healthcare for my kid. I want the government to give it to me. I also do not pay taxes. I get paid under the table. I basically work like an illegal. But yet I want those who do pay to pay for my healthcare. Do you think this is wrong?

ii was diagnosed at 17 i am 19 currently getting medical cause of my parents income and my current diagnosis brain tumor i was wondering if i worked and made my own income what would happen to the insurance i live in california would i have to purchase my own insurance are there companine who would do that? my mom is confused too lol
--------------------
If you worked it would increase your income and could have an effect on your Medi-cal eligibilty. What effect would depend upon your particular situation and which program you are on. The only person who can answer your question is your case worker so I'd suggest calling them and asking how much you could make and still retain your benefits. If your place of employment had a group health policy you'd be able to get on that policy and be covered. If it doesn't have a group policy chances are slim that you'd be able to get an individual policy.

health insurance?

job offering a 401k or something? i have no idea but i know that they offer insurance to all of its employees for about 113 bucks a month. i want to see the dermatologist, i was wondering if the 401k job insurance would cover this or any i better off just going and paying a fee to the dermatologist without coverage.
--------------------
A 401(k) has nothing to do w/ health insurance. It is a retirement account. You should talk to the HR person, each companies insurance is different. But generally it will cover the visit, but you may have a co-pay. And you may need a referral from you primary care physician.

health insurance?

I'm 20 F independent, and in between jobs (for the moment). is there an affordable health plan i can get that will at least cover the essentials? links are fine with me.
--------------------
What do you consider "the essentials"? Companies will not write individual permanent policies on someone who is unemployed. Many companies do have short term medical (STM) insurance which was developed for people between jobs or between policies. If "the essentials" means coverage for catastrophic medical bills the STM policies are great. If "the essentials" are everyday doctor visits and prescriptions the STM policies generally will not cover you. Visit a local independent agent that works with all the major companies in your area. The agent can answer all your questions and can recommend the best policy for you. There is no extra charge when using an agent.

I am 19 years old and I currently have medical insurance through my parents. After this semester in college I will have to get my own coverage since I will no longer be a full time student. About how much (I know it wont be accurate, I just want to get an idea) would I be paying? Is it monthly? It would only cover medical, not dental or anything.

ehealthinsurance.com can give you a good idea of prices and inclusions, it's real simple to use and has 2 options for payment. Monthly and Yearly.

Health Insurance?

This may be silly, but I saw a commercial the other day on tv that was advertising for health insurance for a little over &5.00 a day. I am currently in the hunt for health insurance so i wanted to go online and get some info. As luck may have it by the time i was able to get on the internet i forgot what the website was. I know the company starts with an "e" and its right at the tip of my brain, but i cant remember. Like i said this is a bit silly, but if anyone knows what im talking about please let me know! I havent seen a commercial for it sense.... I live in dutchess county, NY. Thanks!
--------------------
I actually work at eHealthInsurance.com (mentioned by one of your other readers), but no, the commercial in question was not ours. However, I might be able to give you a couple helpful tips. First of all, I would be a little suspicious of broad statements like the one you heard. It's not that the price quoted is necessarily false, but it doesn't tell you much about the kind of coverage they're offering.. Living in New York state, you cannot be turned down for coverage based on your medical history (in other states you could be), but coverage there can sometimes be more expensive than in other places around the country. However, you may be able to find some moderately affordable options. When it comes to individual health insurance options in NY, a lot depends on what kind of coverage you are looking for. If you want a broad health plan that covers things like prescription drugs, checkups and things like that, you're probably going to have to pay a good deal more than $5 a day ($150 a month). But in NY there are a couple of "hospital only" plans that may come in at about that price. These kinds of plan won't cover doctor's office visits, checkups, prescription drugs, etc. What they do cover is hospital charges – the kinds of charges you're likely to face if you have a serious illness or injury that requires hospitalization. So, plans like this do provide a valuable layer of protection against certain scenarios, but you'll need to decide if this is the kind of coverage you want, or if you're looking for something broader. I would strongly recommend that you talk to a licensed agent or visit a licensed online health insurance agency like eHealthInsurance.com. At our site, for instance, you can get free quotes from a selection of health insurance companies in your area, compare plan side and by side, and apply for coverage. Plus we have licensed agents you can talk to help you find the best match for your needs and budget. Our toll-free number is 1-800-977-8860. Good luck! Amir M, licensed agent

Health Insurance ==> ?!?!??!?!?

I need to get a health insurance. Where is the best place to get it from?
--------------------
Depends what you are looking of, where you live and how much coverage you need. Some people want more dental coverage, some people want more para medical services covered (IE: massage, chiro, etc). Your best bet is to contact a lisensed insurance broker who can take a look at what you want and find the best company to suit that.

I was involved in a boat accident, that caused my ligaments to be torn. Now, on crutches and some pain.. i wonder, I don't have health insurance... can you guys give me any suggestions as to what i can do to pay for this? i live in california... if that matters.... thanks
--------------------
- who's fault was it? - whom does the boat belong (owner & registration)? - how did the "accident" occur? (they are usually avoidable, and therefor actually crashes) - were there substances involved(legal as well as illegal)? - - was there a charge to be on the water/lake/river? - whom did you pay? (since you say that you don't want to burden the responsible party, they should either have their insurance take care of that, or pay for your medical bills) ... there are so many possibilities for liability (especially in California) you may need to talk to a personal injury attorney. Torn ligaments are a serious issue and will subject you to a higher liklyhood to develop joint arthrititis later in life, so you need to take care of this as much as possible now.
