Should I and my spouse carry each other on our health insurance through our work?

I have to make the yearly selections on my insurance benefits should I carry my spouse on mine and he carry me on his. Will this benefit us or hurt us
--------------------
There is no reason that both of you should be on each policy. You will not get double benefits. The way to approach it is to compare the plan features of each and take into account how much your employer contributes to the cost of the respective plans. If you consider your out of pocket cost (copays & deductibles) and what your monthly premium will be, net of the employer contribution, it should not be a problem to choose the one plan that is best combination of cost and benefits.

Why are we focusing on health insurance companies?

The health insurance industry makes a profit margin of about 3.3%. Hospital facilities are around 25%. If anyone disputes this, I will provide a source. Why are we focusing on the health insurance industry (the one that pays the doctor bills), rather than focusing on the doctors themselves? It's scary going to the doctor or into the hospital and you have no clue how high your bill is going to be. Shouldn't they tell you the price before they treat you? I mean come on, a cat scan does not cost $8000. It's not the health insurance industry that is charging us insane prices, it is the doctors and hospitals. Instead of demonizing the health insurance industry, why aren't we demonizing the doctors and hospitals that charge these prices?
--------------------
Well, first they tried to say our health care SYSTEM was broke and we ranked 800th in the world in care (just behind Sudan). But the fact is, we have excellent health care. Our hospitals and doctors are the best in the world. Our national survival rates for diseases like cancer are better than any country with Socialized/Nationalized/Government Health Care. *shhhh - don't let anyone know* The medical care professionals quickly rose up and looked to put up a rather staunch defense of their work. Obama quickly changed the tactic from condemning the health care profession to demonizing the health insurance industry. Yeah, those evil big insurance guys. Let's get 'em." Obama and the Liberals once again go after "The Big Guy" in defense of "The Little Guy" because "The Little Guy" is getting screwed. The fact is, "The Little Guy" is going to get screwed even worse by "Big Government" because with Big Gov you have even fewer choices and less power. You can sue an insurance company. It isn't easy but it can be done. Try suing Fed Gov.

Health insurance is out of control and the fix is to make people buy it?

This is the best idea ever. Only pre-existing conditions for children are covered, sorry Natoma, still no insurance for you

How much would health insurance be for me?

I'm 19, a non-smoker, with a body mass index of 19.9. I am in pretty good health, I did have spinal surgery when I was younger and corrective jaw surgery last summer but other than that no pre-existing conditions. I just got dropped from my parents coverage and the job I'm working doesn't offer me enough hours to be full time and get coverage so I have to buy my own, and I'm wondering how much that will cost.

how can i get very cheap health insurance?

i am 18 yrs old, i go to school and i work at a place that doesnt have insurance and i really need to go to get my teeth pulled and i need to go to the doc for my stomach... how can i get free or very cheap health insurance?? cause i have no MONEY!!
--------------------
What kind of school do you go to - high school or college? Most colleges have some sort of health plan. You should ask at the health center or infirmary. Dental insurance is separate from health insurance and is much harder to come by and more expensive.

Why are only 32% willing to Pay Higher Taxes to Provide Health Insurance for All?

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_c… Thirty-two percent (32%) of American adults say they'd be willing to pay higher taxes so that health insurance could be provided for all Americans. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 54% say they're not willing to pay more in taxes.
--------------------
Why should I pay for someone else's health care? I pay enough in taxes already. Health care is a privilege, not a right. Let people go out and purchase it. Edit: Gotta love the libs attacking Rasmussen. They are widely known as the definitive and most accurate poll out there.

health insurance. I want to visit the UK and france for a week?

I am planning to visit france and the UK for only a week and I am trying to apply for a visa. Do you think it is impossible to get the visas in a week or so? They say I have to have insurance in the application form, do I really need to?
--------------------
A visa is not necessary unless you're going to be there for more than three months. If you will be applying for a visa sometime, though, and if you don't have health insurance, then research travel insurance companies. There are several which offer you specialized insurance for travel, especially if you are travelling with a program or organization.

My wife is on my work's health insurance plan. Can she use my insurance card to go to the doctor?

They never sent her insurance cards even though she is on the plan. The agent said she would get her cards in 2 weeks and she never did. Then I went online to try and order the cards, and they just sent me duplicates of my cards, not hers. I e-mailed them yesterday about this annoying issue but haven't yet received a response. She needs to go to the doctor sooner rather than later. We use Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield.
--------------------
Sometimes they issue the card in the policy holders name. This happened to me with my husband's former job. He had Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois. He got his card but I never got one nor the kids. I kept waiting and was freaking out and upset. So, he called them and was told they give one card per family and that is with the policy holders name on it. However, we could request more cards but his name would be on it. They sent us cards and sure enough his name was on it. So, I go to the doctor and told them his employer changed providers and gave them the insurance card with his name on it. They took it and asked no questions. They made a copy and handed my card back to me. So they must be familiar with this now because apparently more than one provider is doing this now. So, tell your wife not to worry.

How do I get health insurance when I go back to school full-time for 4 months to get certif'd in esthetics?

I really want to do this program because I want to start a career in esthetics soon! But, what's holding me back is the fear I won't have any health insurance. The program is only 4 months if you go full time. I have a few medical issues that need attention...nothing too serious, but it could get that way if I don't see dr's regularly. DOes anyone have any advice? I live in NYC...
--------------------
Hello, I work in a doctor's office and I wanted to warn you and other people who live in New York City that medical insurance are hard to come by if income isn't below what the government consider below poverty level. I don't know what your financial situation is. I advice you to look under www.healthyny.com. It may give you an idea of medical insurance you are eligible for. If you have been working and the job can offer you COBRA (keeping the present insurance you have with the job & extending it), that is another alternative to research. If you have any further question, please feel free to e-mail me at: joanyc117@yahoo.com or jcarr0117@juno.com

Why should I get health insurance ?

I heard people saying to buy health insurance but why shall I, when I am healthy?
--------------------
That's the common thought by a lot of healthy people, myself included. Then I got pregnant. Do you know that you can have a pregnancy that costs $150,000 in medical bills? And I was rather healthy but a few small issues ran up the bill. Do you have the funds to cover that? Even small things like a broken bone can run up a serious dent in your budget. If you are really healthy, no need for a big and fancy policy that has lots of bells and whistles. You can get one that covers major medical only. Then if something major happens you do have the coverage you need. And regular doctor visits etc can be paid for out of pocket. I hope that helps - B

Could you answer the multiple-choice question about health insurance ?

Which statement is CORRECT about the key differences between traditional health insurance and managed care? A. In traditional insurance, healthcare functions are coordinated but there is little or no control over utilization B. Managed care attempts to integrate the financing, insurance, delivery, and payment functions and employs "gatekeeping" and/or utilization review mechanisms to control utilization C. In managed care, access is generally not restricted to providers on the panel and insurance companies are generally passive payers of claims D. In traditional care, there is open access--the insured can see any provider, including a specialist but usually needs referral; Preventive check-ups are always covered

should the person who got laid off, or underemployed be without health insurance?

As it is now if you are laid off, you have the option to pay into their health care plan, but your unemployment benefits aren't enough to pay the premiums. Are Republicans saying that they should not be covered by any health care plan?
--------------------
I don't think so, everyone should have the right to health care. the system is so unfair right now and only benefits the very wealthy.

What will happen if my wife gets pregnant and we dont' have health insurance?

They can't refuse prenatal care can they? Would we have $40,000 in medical bills? What would happen? We aren't poor, we just have horrible insurance through both of our workplaces.

Don't know what state you're in but California has this (link below) it's supplemental ins for middle class families who have bad ins. I'm sure where ever you are your state has something similar to this. I would look up what your particular state has to offer in the way of maternity programs.

help health insurance Question about merana?

I would Like to use Merana for a conterceptive. since I have problems taking birth control pill. i get sick on it. How would I find out if my health insurance would help pay for it? and also those who used this are you glad you did?
--------------------
You can contact your insurer and ask if an IUD is covered. (Mirena is one brand of IUD.) I had a Mirena, and it was covered by my insurance at the time I had it put in. As far as contraceptives go...I loved it. Was by far my favorite method of birth control that I've ever used. Once it was in, I could just forget about it - no remembering to take pills, no messy gels, etc. Of course, we had different insurance when I decided to get my Mirena removed. That insurance did not cover Mirena. Since it didn't cover Mirena to get implanted, it wouldn't cover getting Mirena removed either. Ended up paying $300 out of pocket for that. :( Overall though, my experience with Mirena was exceptionally positive. I just wish I didn't have to pay for the removal out of my own pocket. lol

How do you feel about the health insurance companies 56% increased profits.?

For 2009 over 2008? Does this change any minds about the need for a national health care system?
--------------------
My opinion - yes, health insurance companies are a big rip-off. However, I feel that quality of care will go WAY downhill if it's nationalized. Quality of care is really not so great already under the current system.

Why is it considered fascist or socialistic if we want everyone to have health insurance?

We live in a democratic free society. There is no reason that the richest producing nation should not provide health protection for the citizens that keep this country moving. I don't see this as a socialistic issue. I see this as was covered in our Constitution that the citizens of this great country should have equal opportunity to achieve their goals and should be protected by the government.
--------------------
Health care - Protection ? The US government was created to protect the country and free commerce. Not to provide all to its citizens. But for its citizens to be able to provide all for them selves. How far we have drifted from the original intent of this country !

Can I make an appt with a dermatologist without having any health insurance?

I think I need to have a rather large mole on my neck sent for a biopsy and I do not have any insurance. I have a referal from my primary but I have heard that not only is it difficult to get an appt with a non-emergency request, but alos that a lot of doctors simply won't see someone without any insurance.
--------------------
Hi. If you have no insurance, most doctors will request that you pay for your visit when you go there. Dermatologists are very expensive. When i went recently, the visit alone was $200.00 ( not including what she did ). I had to pay the whole amount due before i left ( i have no health insurance ). Biopsies are very costly also. Yes, it is very hard to get appointments also. I had somewhat of an emergency, and had to wait 2 months. Welcome to the wonderful world of health care. I've never had a doctor turn me down for not having insurance, i just have to pay for it when i go ( which can be difficult sometimes ). Best of luck to you :-)

How many people do you know that had their health insurance canceled simply because they made a claim?

I seen so many posts here on YA with pro Obama people saying that insurance companies cancel people for just for making a claim. Has this ever happened to you or anyone you know? Or is this just the Liberals talking point to try to justify the government taking over health care?
--------------------
Zero. The most common issue here is when somebody loses their health insurance not because of the claim - but because the illness made them unable to work.

Will my fiances health insurance pay for my medical care during pregnancy after we get married?

I am 4 weeks pregnant I am marrying my finace on June 30th. He works for Jewel-Osco and has pretty good health insurance. Is the insurance company going to pay all the expenses during my pregnancy after we get married or not?
--------------------
It all depends. Your best bet to figuring out your coverage is to get your fiance/husband to call his health insurance provider and ask them. There should be an 800 number you can call to confirm what coverage there is. You will also need to verify if the "change in status" (in this case, marriage) will make the insurance coverage instantaneous. Some insurances will make you do a waiting period before you are insured. I'm reasonably sure that marriage is an instant coverage case. Your fiance/husband has probably already served his waiting period time before he was covered. I don't think pregnancy technically qualifies as a "pre-existing" condition which is something insurers will use to deny coverage. But I'm not an insurance expert. Lastly, I don't think that the insurance will pay for anything that you have already paid for in regards to your pregnancy or general health. Only when coverage starts (on or after June 30th). In light of all that, CONGRATULATIONS on your pending nuptials! ********************************* In regards to your update about your citizenship, I do not think that not having a SSN will be much of a problem. I think with your married status that it would cover you. They may require you to get some form of government ID though. I, again, stress the need to talk to the insurance company to verify all of this. Also, CVS just purchased Jewel-Osco-Savon so that may have some bearing on what happens to the insurance plan.
