Do Veterans have to have health insurance under obamas plan?

the health care bill says everyone needs insurance. what about veterans who go to the VA for their care?? i dont want to pay for a doctor i never see.
--------------------
The healthcare plan covers 96 percent of USA, the people that DO NOT get it are mainly: People who don't want it, young healthy people (say a 20 year old) with no documented health conditions, and some unlucky middle class people. So, yes, you will get health insurance.

Should Catholic Bishops be controlling health insurance coverage for all Americans?

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, which has lobbied for decades to persuade the government to provide universal health insurance, says it opposes the bill unless it bans the use of subsidies for plans that cover abortion. "We have said to the White House and various Senate offices that we could be the best friends to this bill if our concerns are met," Richard M. Doerflinger, a spokesman for the bishops on abortion issues, said in an interview. "But the concerns are kind of intractable."
--------------------
It may be an overstatement to say the USCCB has lobbied for decades to persuade the government to provide universal health insurance. They have, in general terms, encouraged the government to protect its citizens' access to adequate, quality health care, but the USCCB has not typically dictated specific policy decisions. The US bishops, and the Catholic Church in general, exist to teach the Gospel of Christ, which is professed in specific doctrinal and moral teachings. Neither the US bishops, nor the Catholic Church in general, exist to make policy decisions regarding economics or political structures. Thus, the US bishops do not get involved with policy questions (whether a public option is a good idea or not, etc.). They do get involved when specific moral truths are involved, such as abortion. For example, if the health care plan includes provisions that all US taxpayers, including Catholics, should pay (via their taxes) for any woman who wants to abort her child, this is obviously morally problematic from a Catholic point of view (or from any sensible point of view, IMHO). So, in answer to your question, should the bishops control health insurance coverage for all Americans, no. That is the decision of the American people, as expressed through our representative government. Should the bishops voice their opposition to taxpayer-funded abortions, yes. That is their job.

do part time employees get health insurance?

I work in a clothing store, part time, i just started this job like 2 weeks ago. Im 20. Do i get health insurance?
--------------------
Generally, no. If the company wants to give health insurance to all its workers, it probably can. It does not need to do so, except possibly in Massachusetts and a few other places.

Will I be able to use a university student card and a health insurance card on as ID?

I am going out tonight, and have left my actual driving license and passport at my other home so won't get a chance to fetch it till tomorow. Do you think a university photo id student card will work (it doesn't have my date of birth on) with a european health insurance card (has no photo on but has my name and date of birth) as ID to get into a club? I dont want to go out and then not get in anywhere..

If the bar knows how to card people then no, those items are too easily faked.

Where will small businesses get the money to fulfill Obama's health insurance mandates?

What gives Obama the right to saddle small businesses with government required health insurance? If Obama thinks everyone should have it maybe he should require people to buy their own policy. Why is it an employers responsibility to provide it?
--------------------
I am not sure, but as to why? It is because the American people voted Obama in to bring in these changes. I am amazed that so many Americans are not aware about Obama's healthcare plans. http://www.morningstaronline.co.uk/index… During the election, he campaigned for these changes http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/table/20… stating that he felt it was unfair to have a system where insurance companies try to escape paying claims. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1cxyjHsK… In addition, insurance company executives have admitted this. http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009/jul… They admit that they drive up costs, buy politicians and refuse to pay for valid claims. Remember, he was elected to bring in these changes, elected by the American people who want healthcare reform. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=erspfMkqL… And he discussed his plans in debates with McCain, and he still won the election. First of all, too many people do not know that Obama wants to make insurance more available to all. His system is similar to that which works in Holland and Switzerland. http://www.commonwealthfund.org/Content/… It works there and private healthcare companies provide most the insurance to the people there. FACT - the USA spends more on healthcare PER PERSON than any other nation on the planet. FACT - the US has higher death rates for kids aged under five than western European countries with universal health coverage. That means that a dead American four year old would have had a better chance of life if they were born in Canada, France, the Netherlands, Cuba, Switzerland, Germany, Japan etc, all of which have universal health coverage. And no western European nation with universal healthcare has moved away from it.

It is mandatory for me to get health insurance?

I am living in British Columbia, Canada. I just found out that I am required by law to get the health insurance that the government provides. What happens if I don't want to get it? Will they send me to jail? Will they give me a fine?
--------------------
No but they could technically garnishee your wages and it can create problems if you require health care. The cost of the insurance is minimal compared to what a single visit to a doctor or hospital would cost. Although it does not cost anywhere near what it does in the US costs are going up and a hospital stay could easily cost you more than the annual cost of medical insurance. There are supplements for low income individuals and people on welfare are covered by the government.

Enrolling for medical coverage is mandatory for B.C. residents. http://www.health.gov.bc.ca/insurance/bc… Your employer would automatically deduct from your paycheques for the BC health care premium, as they deduct your taxes, EI & CPP premimums. In other words, you have no choice unless you wish to get a hard time to your employer by getting you fired. If you are self employed, and do not remit the health care premium, I would imagine that there is a penalty (at least interest charges for the outstanding and late amounts) for the non remittance.

Can someone sue a doctor for rejecting them if they don't have health insurance and something happens to them?

First of all, can a doctor reject a patient without health insurance? And if something happens to that person can they sue that doctor?
--------------------
I know this to be the case if the patient is in need of "emergency" care and is refused treatment. There was a case in MA a few years ago where a man went to a health clinic complaining of chest pain. The clinic turned him away for lack of insurance and he subsequently died when he would have survived had he received treatment. This clinic was sued and sanctioned by the state including having to change their policies with regards to emergency care. This year it became a law that every citizen in MA must have health insurance.

Health insurance??..?

I need it. going to pay out-of-pocket. 40 year old non smoking female, healthy. Any tips? Anything I should know? I've never shopped for health insurance, have no idea what I'm doing.
--------------------
If you are self employeed you should take a serious look into Health Savings Accounts, for several reasons, starting with there is a huge savings on your monthly premiums regardless if you are insuring yourself or you and your family. Things that are considered by the insruance companies are the area you live in, the type of work you do and any pre-existing conditions you might have. If you are in the state of California, and you have employees, you need a minimum of two employees and/or 75% of the payroll to participate in the plan (regardless of HSA or regular insurance) to get a guaranteed issuance of the insurance. If you are not self employeed but do have a job, again the HSA is great way to go, because you can make pretax contirbutions to the plan, take it with you where ever you go, and keep the insurance with you when you retire... which as common sense tells us, you are going to need healthcare much more in your retirement years (ie when you are older) then you will now. Also any qualified medical expenses can be paid tax free from the account, and once you hit your deductable out your account, anything above that is paid for by the backing insurance company. One note about the non bias oppinon of "brokers," they get paid on a commission as well by the companies they represent, and some companies pay more than others. Just because you are working with an "independant" does not mean you are getting the best price, or service. You want to work with someone who knows the products that they work with inside and out, or have access to the people who do so that all your questions can be answered to your satisfaction. Some times a huge selection does not mean a huge savings in time and money. Health Insurance?

My fiance has medical covered at his job, but i am always afraid that he might lose it, or that we won't have medical when we need it. I'm not on his medical yet, but as soon as we get married i will be. Would it be wise for me to get health insurance from an insurance company until we get married? should i keep it after i get married also? what exactly is the purpose of it?
--------------------
The purpose of health insurance, like all insurance, is to help you avoid risk. In this case, it's the risk that you will get sick and not be able to afford the health care you need. This is actually quite a big problem. Yes, Emergency Rooms are required to see you in the event that you are in a life-threatening situation. However, private hospitals may turn you away even under those circumstances if there is a public hospital also in the same town. And if they do treat you in the ER, the bill they send you afterward will make the premiums for health insurance suddenly look very reasonable. You'll also find that they do send those accounts to collections. And failure to pay WILL impact your credit. I do have to disagree with someone above who said that individual health insurance is the most expensive route. In general, group plans offer broader coverage (particularly for prescription drugs); however, your rates for individual insurance will be based on your own personal underwriting details (including your age, weight, tobacco usage, and any pre-existing conditions.) In most cases, there are at least 4 different health levels assigned based on those factors. If you have a totally clean bill of health, you'll be a level 1, tobacco users are automatically a level 2, etc. I mention all of that because the ONLY time I've ever seen health insurance cheaper through a group is if you would rate as either a level 3 or higher. You can get different types of coverage, also. There's basic coverage (which covers a set price only for specifically described things up to a maximum amount or number of visits per year.) Basic coverage is fairly inexpensive; however, it does NOT protect you from the bigger expenses if you were to have a major illness (because you would max out your benefits fairly quickly.) There's major medical coverage (which is designed to offer more comprehensive coverage.) Still, it may not protect you in the event of a truly catastrophic illness (like cancer, a stroke, etc.) This is because there is a maximum lifetime cap for benefits (which typically varies between $1 - 8 million.) That sounds like a lot of money, but a few days in an intensive care unit can run in excess of $100,000 (even with the negotiated discounts through a health insurance company.) There's also something called catastrophic (or critical illness) coverage, which is offered in addition to major medical coverage. It's designed to pay out a lump sum in the event that you were to become ill with a specific list of illnesses (including cancer, stroke, etc.) There are also medical discount plans, but these are NOT insurance. If you want an easy way to figure out if you're dealing with a discount plan vs. an insurance policy, ask them for their AM Best rating. (It's an insurance industry ranking organization.) If you read these boards, you've probably seen other people ask questions about getting health insurance with pre-existing conditions. While it is usually (though not always) available in some form, it is VERY expensive and the options are very limited. You're much better off to get it while you're healthy. The other important thing to remember is that more than half of all bankruptcies in this country are as a result of medical bills**. And of those, 75% had health insurance. (My point being that choosing the highest deductible, or the cheapest plan may not be the best option in the long run.)

Can I transfer my personal health insurance policy to be paid through my S corp?

Im the sole owner of an S Corp. I have a personal health insurance policy. Can I simply change the billing of my current policy to be paid through my corporation? Thanks
--------------------
I assume that you have a tax reason for wanting to do this. The instructions for Schedule C and Schedule C-EZ explicitly state that you are not allowed to deduct any payment for your own insurance on those schedules. Even if you change the billing, the only places where you can deduct it are Schedule A (itemized medical expenses) or the "self-employed" health insurance deduction on Form 1040.

Can you get health insurance personally without having a job that offers it?

I don't have a job right now and I'm wondering if I could get health insurance on my own through an insurance company without having an employer to provide it for me.
--------------------
yes. individuals can always purchase health insurance on their own. the premiums are quite expensive, which is why it's always good to get a job with an employer who'll provide health insurance.

Trying to find the best health insurance?

I am 7 weeks pregnant and I am trying to find cheap health insurance. I live in NM. I just need a plan that will cover my ultrasounds, doctor appointments the birth and medicine. My job sucks as I am making 2.25 an hour. I am also in the military but I am in the reserves so I am not eligible for tri care. any ideas? also i cant afford a high deductible. and medicare is not an option.
--------------------
No, Medicare is not an option because Medicare does not cover maternity. However, Medicaid may be an option. Here is their website for more information: http://www.hsd.state.nm.us/ Since there are no individual policies at any price that will accept anyone that is already pregnant your only other option would be to get a job that has health benefits. Group policies cannot exclude maternity as a pre-existing condition.

My ex used my health insurance for a few years after our divorce. Do I have any liability for her actions?

my ex used my health insurance provided through my work for a few years. My attorney send her letter and give her 30 days to get her own insurance. Do i have any liability here? Or, is it just her who is responsible for using my insurance knowing that we are divorced.
--------------------
Every job I've ever had required you to fill out a 'change of status' when you married, divorced, added a kid to the household, etc with regard to company provided benefits. If you didn't notify your insurance carrier that you were divorced and she should no longer be on the policy, then it could well fall to you to be responsible for any outlay the insurance company had after the divorce was final. It was your job to let the appropriate persons know you were no longer married and thus your now ex-wife should no longer benefit from your benefits.

How can I get health insurance?

Hi! So my situation is a little complicated......I am twenty and a full time college student living at home. Both my parents are older and on medicare which does not cover me. I only work part time so I really cant even afford to pay for insurance and my college offers an insurance plan but it's really crappy. I really need to find some type of health insurance that is affordable. Not being able to go to the doctor or dentist is not fun. Any advice please?
--------------------
Policies differ state to state, but regardless the answer is the same. Find an insurance broker that does business in your state. Brokers can show you all of the plans and they're free to use. They'll also help you at claim time and with billing issues.
