Can I assess Health Insurance that could cover Fertility Treatment, the details of the Policy and Premium?

Precisely, IVF (In-vitro) Fertilization. Can my wife and i assess Health insurance Policy that could cover this treatment, and what are the conditions, premium either weekly, bi-monthly or monthly? And how soon can the policy be effective from the first day of cover?
--------------------
I've never heard of an insurance policy that pays for fertility treatments, especially a private policy. It's considered a voluntary procedure.

Do you have health insurance for your dog?

I have a puppy and I'm trying to decide whether or not to get her health insurance.
--------------------
I don't. I should but she's old and a golden and I probably wouldn't get a good rate for her. I was about to get some for my lab, about a week before she was diagnosed with Lymphoma. I wish I had spent less time researching and just gotten some.

How can you have insurance, but not have health care?

We were talking about the Obama Health Care Speech in Poly Sci class the other day and the teacher kept saying how just because you have health insurance doesn't mean you have proper health care. Can someone please elaborate on this because I do not understand...
--------------------
In our current system, health insurance does not cover many diagnostic tests. Also, most health insurance limits what they will cover. 1.5 million people that will go bankrupt this year from medical expenses all have health insurance. 30% of medical claims are denied by insurance companies. If you have high deductibles, you still may not be getting basic care, because you can't afford routine visits or perscription drugs.

Can I receive Medicaid or Medicare for migraines if I can't afford to buy my own health insurance?

I get anywhere from 1-8 migraines per month. If I get them at work, I have to leave immediately. So far this has not inhibited me working. But I cannot afford health insurance, and would like to know if this would qualify me. If I could find a medication to help, then I wouldn't have to miss work.
--------------------
It would depend if you qualify for Medicaid. You can't receive Medicare until you're 65, or if your condition is considered a disability. http://www.medicare.gov/Help/MET.asp You'd need to go to your individual state's Medicaid site for info.

If you needed to purchase a health insurance policy, where is the first place you would look?

If you were self-employed or for some other reason did not have a group health insurance policy, what would be the first step you would take to get health insurance?
--------------------
The best way to start is by doing what you're doing now – asking for personal recommendations. What kind of health insurance are you looking for? It might be a good idea to jot down a list of the different aspects of a health plan and then chart the differences between various plans you come across. Generally, the main features are deductible, premiums, copays, and the degree to which you need a referral to see a specialist or undergo specific tests and medical procedures. I'd check out Consumer Reports (link below), US News & World Reports Best Health Plans, and whatever other informational resources you can find. I'd also talk with locally licensed health insurance agents. I've included a couple of articles about choosing a health plan that might be useful. They are government-authored, but they're actually pretty good (all links below). HMOs (health maintenance organizations) are popular right now, and they usually include mental health coverage in their plans. A typical example is that you would pay a monthly fee and then a copay when you visit your therapist (usually around $50 for a plan with low monthly payments). One potential problem, though, is access to physicians. An HMO might not have the kind of mental health specialist you're looking for. Before you enroll in an HMO, I would strongly urge you to look at their mental health specialist roster. For more choices, you might opt for a PPO (preferred provider organization) or a traditional fee-for-service plan. If you are self-employed and own a business, you might be able to take advantage of small business health plans or join a trade association. Also, some states consider some self-employed individuals who do not own a business as "groups of one." These people are considered small businesses in terms of access to group health plans, which typically offer lower prices. The quickest way to get a good overview of locally available health insurance options is by talking with more than one health insurance agent. After you've reviewed some information and know what kind of insurance you want (HMO, PPO, fee-for-service, et al), try visiting MostChoice.com. It's a Web site that helps you shop for health insurance. They have free instant price quotes and policy information on health plans near you, but their specialty is getting you in touch with state-licensed agents. There's no cost or obligation to buy insurance. You just fill out a short form and wait for the agents to contact you (within 48 hours). Have your questions ready and let them work until one of them delivers the plan that's right for you. You might want to have a set amount you want to spend each month on insurance and tell the agents to work within those parameters. Health Insurance or keep suffering from abuse?

Alright, this is the situation that I am in. My father is mentally ill. He has terrorized my family for the past couple of years and has abused my mother and my other siblings. We have now have the option of putting in him in prison where he will not bother us and hopefully get help. My question is, he is retired from the Navy. If he is put in jail, would we lose health insurance that is provided by the military? My mother works very hard but cannot afford this and I have siblings around 10 to 12 years old. What are some of our options?
--------------------
You are in a tough spot, but what good is having health insurance if the price is the possibility of someone's death? You can approach the Navy Adjunct with the problem and they can seek to incarcerate him in a hospital that will not only maintain your health insurance but get him much needed therapy as well. If he seriously injures on of you you will end up without his health insurance anyway if he goes to prison. The Navy can, thru your mother, request a psychological evaluation on the premise of this domestic violence and help to maintain the insurance. Violent abuse without therapy only gets worse....and no amount of health insurance can return life. You can contact your nearest Fleet and Family Support Center for information on available resources.

Will there be a health insurance option for us if we already carry insurance that's awful?

We have BCBS with a health savings account which we pay $200 a month for though my husband's small massage school. Cheap right? Not so much when the employer doesn't contribute to the HSA and we just can't afford to. For that reason, I haven't gotten my annual PAP or mammagram which I'm overdue for. Just going for a regular check up leaves us with an almost $100 bill. With Obama's plan would we be able to quit that insurance and pick up something affordable?

possess as much information as you could maybe is one of the options, however it is quite time consuming, here http://www.HealthInsuranceIdeas.info is the resource i have ever had good experience.

my health insurance paid for medical bills incurred from a car wreck. Can it come after me for reimbursement?

now I have received a settlement from the car insurance. Can the health insurance now collect the money it paid out . If so how long do they have to request the money form me?
--------------------
Depending on your plan - yes they may be able to. Usually the health insurance contacts the cars insurance adjuster to get paid back. The adjuster will tell your health insurance that they paid you for the medical bills so the health insurance needs to talk to you. Then your health insurance will come back to you. Take the part of the settlement that was reimbursement for the medical bills and put it in a savings account and don't touch it for 1 year. The health insurance can come back at any time but usually the process will play out with in a year. Or - call your health insurance company and speak to someone in the Subrogation Department. They should be able to review it and tell you if they are going to come after you for reimbursement or not.

How many people do you know (including yourself) have health care insurance?

If your family is insured under you then make sure you say so. I read an article that said that 86% of American born citizens have health insurance and I find it extremely hard to believe.

Can health insurance deny coverage of a pre existant condition if it's a medical necessity?

I have a uterine fibroid that showed up on an ultrasound before I got health insurance. The doctor has put me on lupron shots to shrink the fibroid and they've been paying for my treatments, but refuse to pay for my surgery. Is it possible that the insurance company will pay if it's a medical necessity? Thanks
--------------------
Yes they can. It's pre existing, it doesn't matter what it is. But in most cases there is also an elimination period. Once that time is up, you can have a necessary procedure and receive benefits under you policy for it. To know if you qualify and how long the elimination period is (typically 12-24 mo), read your policy carefully and if you still don't know, talk to the person you bought it from or a representative of that company and they can tell you. But keep in mind that some policies carry a permanent exclusion for some conditions. Also know that you might need to have the procedure before the elimination period is up and if you do, you will have to pay for it out of pocket.

What happens in America if you get injured but don't have health insurance?

I live in England and we have the NHS so all our medical treatment is free. I'm curious as to what would happen in a country like America if a person got injured but didn't have health insurance or couldn't pay the hospital bills? And is the outcome the same if the person is a child???
--------------------
If it's an emergency, the hospital is required to treat you regardless of your ability to pay. However, they will bill you for it, and the bill may be very large. Without insurance, an overnight stay in an American hospital can cost tens of thousands of dollars, depending on what they do. Sometimes the hospital will work out a payment plan where you pay the bill in installments each month. If you can't pay the bill, they will turn it over to a collection agency, which will harass you until you pay or declare bankruptcy (medical bills are the number-one cause of personal bankruptcies in the U.S.). Most hospitals also do a certain amount of charity care for low-income individuals.

Why are there no "good" health insurance companies?

While thinking about the idea of an altruistic, fair "public option" for health insurance, I started trying to figure out why something like it doesn't already exist. (Or maybe it does?) The assumption seems to be that health insurance companies are causing problems through systematic greed, and the public option would help keep them honest. But, if this is the case, why isn't there an organization doing this already? Why don't the "good," people, such as the ones that take less-pay than they could in other sectors to run major charitable organizations, start a "good" health insurance company that doesn't do any of the bad things that the other insurance companies do. If such an organization were to exist, it seems that everyone would switch to it, and even the most greedy of insurance companies would have to become like it in order to compete. There are obviously enough qualified and caring people out there to make such an organization happen without any government involvement. So why don't such organizations exist? I have a few ideas, but they don't explain the whole story. Maybe the fact that people don't usually shop around for health insurance because it's chosen by their employers prevents new "good" insurance companies from gaining the market share required to make the "bad" ones change? Maybe health insurance companies are already as good as they can be, despite a few heartless employees, and the primary problems in health care come from somewhere else? Maybe protectionist legal policies prevent altruistic organizations from freely forming? Any thoughts?

Insurance companies are not the bad guys!

Where do I find if my employer has to keep paying for my health insurance since I am not eligible for cobra?

My employer does not have to offer me cobra because the business is too small and does not fall in the guidelines for offering cobra. BUT my last day is the 15th and my health insurance is due to be paid on the 14th. Is there a law that they have to pay anymore health insurance for me (ex. maybe next 30 days) or does my coverage stop when I quit?
--------------------
Even if it's paid on the 14th, to the health insurance company, the employer can cancel YOUR coverage effective the 16th. Or, maybe it stays until the end of the month you were employed in (Nov 30th). You'll have to ask the employer - it's actually up to their INSURER, not them.

How can I help my friend (under 18) who doesn't have health insurance?

My friend's parents are yoga-teaching hippies, and they don't believe in modern medicine, so they don't bother with health insurance. My friend gets sick all the time and I'm really worried about her. She's never been to a doctor in her life, all she takes are homeopathic herbs but they don't help. Can I take her to my doctor? What can I do? Thank you
--------------------
Why don't you call your doctor's office and see if there is anything that they can do. If you explain the circumstances beforehand, and explain that she has no health insurance, they may be able to work with you to find a reasonable cost, rather than charge your friend an arm and a leg for having no insurance. Some doctors may not even take your friend because she has no insurance. So my suggestion would be call the doctor, explain that the parents practice alternative medicine (don't call them yoga-teaching hippies), and explain that your friend is constantly sick and you are worried that she is getting worse.

My father passed away last week. My mother and sister(under 18) lost their health care coverage the day he died. Where do they go from here? Mom is 60 and has never worked???
--------------------
I'm assuming that your mother and sister were covered under your fathers insurance from his employer. The employer should be sending your Mom a COBRA letter. She should be able to continue her coverage under the old insurance. However, COBRA coverage can be expensive. She might be better off to look for other options. It would at least give her some time to figure out what her best choices are. If she has not received a COBRA letter, she needs to call your Dads employer HR department and talk to them. COBRA coverage will allow her to keep the same insurance for at least 18 months. She will have to pay the whole premium though.

Health insurance?

A while ago I received an answer about health care in the future. In the answer, the person said that "health care should be an individual's responsibility." Personally, I would gladly give up social security to have a nice health insurance program when I become old and gray. Here's why. Recently, my wife had to have some minor outpatient surgery. By the time it was all done, the bills totaled $5500 (and this was minor). Fortunately, we have good insurance and we had only about $400 out of pocket. But, in the future, the percentage increase in health care far outpaces inflation. So, I estimate the same thing to cost about $35000. Most companies do not provide their employees with endless health insurance. This type of cost would certainly jack up insurance costs and out of pocket. How in the world does one plan for this kind of expense? Any opinions about this?
--------------------
Most people don't plan for this. Which is a shame. Not very many people have savings for a rainy day. But that's what you have to have. Medicare is the current plan for the over 65 set, for health insurance. It's mostly paid for by the working taxpayer.

I'm not on his medical yet, but as soon as we get married i will be. Would it be wise for me to get health insurance from an insurance company until we get married? should i keep it after i get married also? what exactly is the purpose of it?

I would get the coverage and keep it. It does not hurt to have 2 policies going just in case.

What is a good website to get health and dental insurance, and what are good plans for me and my wife
--------------------
There are several websites to get you a ballpark figure and information about many different policies. However, do not try to do this over the internet. It'll take you many days of solid research to intelligently compare the hundreds of plans available. Also, if you have any pre-existing conditions that might add a rider to the policy, cause you to be declined, or if you are out of the height and weight guidelines you won't know until you've applied and gone through the underwriting process. Also, applying over the internet is a good way to get scammed. Call or visit a local independent agent that works with all the major companies in your area. Not all companies are available in all states and plans with the same company can vary across state lines. The agent can work with you to find the best policy for your situation and budget. The plans and premiums are no different if you use an agent.

An employer that offers health insurance to full time employees: Can the employer deny you coverage for any reason at all if your a full time employee?
--------------------
No, they can't deny you coverage. --and yes, that's how your insurance would work, if one covers a percentage the other policy should pick it up....just one thing, your policy from your job, would be the primary insurance when you go to the dr...meaning that the dr is going to use your insurance first, then your husbands. If you want to put your husband on your policy, then it would be the opposite when he goes, his policy would be the primary, and then your policy the secondary. They are always going to bill the primary first, then the secondary.
