What do in-network and out- network mean in regards to choosing health insurance?

I am choosing a health insurance to benefit myself, but i am not sure what in-network and out-network means so therefore i cannot make my decision. Does anyone know what these two mean? Anything you know helps!
--------------------
In-Network means choosing one of the plan's providers that has agreed to a pre-set formula for reimbursement. You usually pay a lower deductible for using In-Network providers. Out-Network means the provider has not agreed to the reimbursement formula of the insurance plan. You will often pay a higher deductible, but you get to choose any doctor you like.

Can 3 adults be covered under one family health insurance plan?

My husband is ordered by divorce decree to cover his ex-wife and son for health insurance. He is now married to me and we have a son. Up to 3 weeks ago when I lost my job, I just carried my own individual health insurance through my company. I think I should be on his family plan now and not her. Does anyone know if the ex-wife can be carried on the same plan and my husband and me and our kids as a dependent?
--------------------
The ex-spouse is usually not eligible for health insurance coverage once a person remarries. You, as current spouse, and all of his children, should be on his family plan.

Will throwing the health insurance companies under the bus magically lower the cost of health care?

Have you ever paid for your medical bills using your own money? If you have then you would know the insurance companies are not the ones charging outrageous prices. Its the health care providers that are charging so much. Funny how the Obama administration only wants to focus on a small part of the problem eliminating any chances of actually fixing the real problems.
--------------------
Insurance companies have about 30% overhead vs 4% for medicare.....that means medicare has more of its funding actually getting to where it needs to go, while the private insurance siphons more money to investors and CEOs for private jets. The difference is greater than 1/4 of their total income from insurance fees. However, tackling the insurance companies without following up with the crooks at the drug companies will ultimately be insufficient. No other nation on earth pays more for the same drugs we buy and every other country pays less....we cant have that if we want affordable healthcare.

who is responsible for paying health insurance for a child in a divorce?

If the court orders that I pay a certain amount in child support and that both the petitioner and respondent each pay 50% of all unreimbursed medical, dental and orthodontia expenses incurred on behalf of the minor, does that mean that we are both responsible for half of the health and dental insurance?
--------------------
I would think who ever can get it the cheapest. Surely you would want your own child have medical coverage. 50/50 sounds fair if you have 50/50 time with the boy. If not then I think whoever has him and is actually the parent (you can't be a parent when you are with him only four days a month) should pick up the medical tab. After all they are the ones who will be making the medical decisions.

Where can I get affordable health insurance in New York State?

I need health insurance hopefully that also includes dental. I make to much for state run plans and don't have enough for private plans they want as much as $1,000 and there is no way I can afford that. But I can't afford not having any either. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
--------------------
Dental is seperate from health insurance, and New York is one of the most expensive states to buy coverage in. There's no "bargain". There's no "deal". With health insurance, you get what you pay for, and the better the coverage, the more it costs. Flat out. There's either welfare health insurance - the state plan, private health insurance, which you say you can't afford, or a group plan through your employer - so you might have to switch jobs to find that. You need to talk to a local agent, not online websites which will harvest your personal information to sell it. You can find a local agent at www.iiaba.net.

I am 22 years old, and a full time college student, who is struggling to make ends meet, my parents health insurance through their employer does not cover me because I am over 21. I don't have a stable job and have worked a couple of part time jobs in the past couple of years. Do foreign teachers from America need to pay for income tax or health insurance in China?

Most of the information I've seen says that teacers do not need to pay for income tax. But, one school said that I may have to pay for taxes and health insurance. Is this legitimate or a scam?
--------------------
It depends upon the school and the salary. Many private schools pay quite a bit more than universities and don't provide all the benefits that a university will provide. Additionally, a school is NOT required to pay taxes for their foreign teachers . . . it's merely a common benefit provided by many schools. Some schools may decide that any tax payment must be borne by the employee and not the employer. The tax law in China is fuzzy. They have set limits, but then they have tax-exempt income. First, the tax table: Table of Income Tax Rates in China for an Individual in 2009 Tax % Monthly Income (CNY) 5% 1 - 500 10% 501 - 2,000 15% 2,001 - 5,000 20% 5,001 - 20,000 25% 20,001 - 40,000 30% 40,001 - 60,000 35% 60,001 - 80,000 40% 80,001 - 100,000 45% 100,001 and above http://www.worldwide-tax.com/china/china… With a 5,000 yuan per month salary, under this table, you would have to pay 15% tax or 750 yuan. HOWEVER, you have an exempt allowance: * A standard monthly exemption of CNY 4,800 on income from a salary for a foreign resident, and CNY 2,000 for a Chinese resident. This means your monthly taxable income would be a mere 200 yuan, of which 5% (25 yuan) would be taxable. http://www.worldwide-tax.com/china/chi_e… You could go down to the tax office to pay this, but it would create more trouble than it is worth! Additionally, there are deductions as well, so in light of that, you probably wouldn't owe anything. I have paid taxes on income above and beyond my teacher's salary as I have additional income from published works. However, the publishing company usually takes the taxes from my salary, which makes things simple for me and my school as my school doesn't have to get involved. I know this is a long answer, but it should give you the background. Good luck.

I'm going to be married in just over a week; afterwards, what do I need to do to add her to my health insurance? Am I supposed to tell my boss, or the health insurance company, etc.? I have Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO. Thanks!!!

Go to the Human Resources or Benefits department at your employer, and ask them what information they'll need. Do it right away, however--many plans have short time periods in which you can add a new spouse (most commonly, 30 days).

How can I get health insurance with diabetes?

My boyfriend has Type 1 diabetes and just lost his job (and health insurance). We have been looking around for other health insurance, but basically no one will cover him because he takes insulin. If he continued with his job's health plan it would increase to over $500 a month! Our U.S. health care system sucks!! Do you know of any health care providers who would cover this?
--------------------
He can do COBRA (probably your $500 increase) and if he can't get on with another insurer and COBRA ends, he can use HIPAA to get on as a guarantor with another insurer--but it will cost a buttload for sure. What do you think universal health insurance will cost you?

Read the Intelligence Report in the 2-20-08 edition of Parade Magazine. Medicare's budget is 400 billion dollars. The article says 70 billion dollars were paid out in fraudulent claims. That's 17.5%. Do you still think government run health insurance is a good idea? If the US government ran a program for everyone, what would the budget be? two trillion? What would be the amount of fraud? 350 billion dollars if the fraud rate stays the same.
--------------------
Liberals are always very generous... at giving away other peoples money. Universal health care sounds good as a phrase but is a disaster waiting to happen. Once the government runs your healthcare, expect them to control not only your healthcare, but also your way of life. And the price will go way up if government runs it. As it always does. The less government, therefore, the better.

What are the loopholes in Health insurance for middle age people with existing diseases?

What kind of health insurance do I qualify for?

My father recently died, and I was covered under his health care policy. Not that he's gone, no one in my family is covered any more. I'm a student in college and I don't have health insurance now. I need it. Would I qualify for medicaid or something like it? The school doesn't offer anything for students here. Any help would be great. Thanks.
--------------------
You need to check with your state's welfare department or social services division. If you are 18 years old, you are not eligible for your dad's social security benefits as those end at 18 college or not. If you get sick, go to your local clinic, tell them you do not have anyone else that can pay for you, and they will have you fill out a form for free treatment. Many times you don't have to pay at all. No matter how they ask you, don't mention your mom or give her address or they will bill her even though legally she is not responsible. Maybe you could work part time to get health coverage of some type. I am so sorry that you lost your Dad at such a young age.

If you have health insurance, do you have to use it when you visit a doctor?

I have health insurance and need to go to the doctor. Nothing serious. I have heard people choose to self pay and pay cost out of pocket instead of using insurance. Is this something you can get in trouble for? I am just afraid my premiums may go up and I can't afford to pay any more.
--------------------
You don't have to use your insurance, it's not something that you could get in trouble for. If you're going for something that isn't serious than I would use it, it shows you are taking care of your health. The insurance companies like that.

What kind of health insurance do I need?

I'm a college student in Los Angeles, 21 years old. I need health insurance and I'm extremely poor. What kind of services should I be looking for? How much should I expect to pay? Where can I find insurance? Also I need a new pair of glasses and prescription for it. I had medicare or something like that where everything was practically free, but I'm discontinued because of my age. Any advice or help would be much appreciated. Thanks.
--------------------
I don't understand how you could be discontinued for medicaid for being 21. Do you mean you were taken off your parents medicaid when you became of age? because if that is the case then you should be able to apply for your own. If not you can check into using the health department, they charge according to your income, and in some cases it is completely free.

How does this new health care bill help people with no health insurance, no kids, no job, and no money?

Is the IRS going to fine and possible jail this category of Americans! So many people are unemployed because of the state of the economy! I don't see companies eager to hire now that they will have an added expense under this new health care bill! So I ask again, what happens to a person who has been laid off, no children, no income, no money to buy health insurance? Does this bill fine them and possibly jail them when they can't help their situation?
--------------------
No Ayn Ms. Rand. No one is going to jail and any fine would not exceed the cost of the health insurance. The law is intended to encourage compliance, not be punitive. Everyone is the US should have access to health care. Until now they have been shut out because of greedy insurance companies or lack of income. Poor folks who can not afford it will get financial assistance, not fines. It's about time the US health care system got serious and actually provided services for all people, not just the rich. Why does the US have such a high infant mortality rate compared to western European countries? Why are longevity rates in the US not equal to those of other industrialized countries? It's because the poor people are excluded from the system.

Do you have a hard time getting efficient medical care even though you have health insurance?

My sister's health insurance threatened to make her pay from her pocket for an MRI, until she told her insurance company that she had already had an MRI. Then, as if this was not too much already, her doctor finally realized my sister is in a lot of pain--she has to take pain pills just to lay down to sleep. What gives here?
--------------------
About 10 years ago I sliced my arm open, requiring stitches. Had good PPO insurance. Went to urgent care facility, showed my card, never even sat down but walked past everyone sitting in waiting room, got sewn and they were all still sitting waiting as I left. It wasn't bleeding much since was such a clean sharp cut, there was no actual emergency, just needed stitches.

No one can force a person to get health insurance. When will Hillary understand that?

Hillary Clinton promises to make health insurance mandatory for every American. Who's gonna pay for it? How can she force someone to buy health insurance?
--------------------
She can't. If you have to choose between rent & food or health insurance guess which you're not going to buy. In California there's a law that everyone has to have car insurance, yet we still have to insure against uninsured motorists.
