Will I be able to get cheaper government insurance now that the Health Care bill has passed?

I have health insurance through my employer, but was reading that if you are within certain income guidelines, up to 400% over the poverty limit, you will receive a subsidy towards health insurance. So, I did the rough math, and the government option with the subsidy would be cheaper than what I pay for private insurance now. So, will I be able to decline my employer's health insurance, and instead take the lower cost option offered by the government?

Could you please help us find the right Health Insurance for our family?

Hey there, We are looking for health care provider for our family which income is approximately 50 thousand. We are coming from different country and it is really hard for us to find the right insurance. We used to have free health insurance for a year as the newcomers. But, then it was canceled due to over family's income. Since then we haven't had health insurance and we can't afford leaving without it. So, please help us if you can and we would appreciate that. We are currently leaving on Long Island, NY and would be pleased to find something here. Thank you all!
--------------------
there are several carriers in the NYC area and long island area: like HIP, GHI, and Aetna. going though a broker actually can be expensive because they charge you for their services. its best to deal directly with the insurance plan....hope this helps

Why should I have to pay for auto workers health insurance when I can't afford it for my family?

It appears that the auto workers union is trying to get you and I to pay for their cost of health insurance for their members as payback for financing the Obama campaign. That sucks. They won't pay for my health insurance. The govenment should not give the union one red cent.
--------------------
So you want the companies to give back everything the Union won from them over the many years of service? I don't think this is going to happen unless you get a Universal Health Plan or one like they have in Japan or Europe. $30.00 dollars an hour can always be cut in half and lose the many paid *personal days* and excessive holidays ...like having election day off with pay just to vote..this would let the auto worker still get the same money but they would have to work instead of being on a paid vacation I worked 30 years for the UAW and Ford and I also spent four years in the Air Force in requistioning and base supply One thing the government and Ford Motor has in common? They waste so much money on overtime..premium time..and so many perks for the executives and the hourly...and also even the UNION The Union Plant Chairmen make well over $100K a year ..they get paid 12 hours a day seven days a week and on Holidays they get Tripple pay...Yes..I agree..take away half their money and make them pay for Dental, Optical, Legal Services, and of cours Medical Close the Health Centers in each plant and get rid of the Learning Centers that hire about 3 to 5 school teacher per plant... So many perks could be just cut to the bone if they wanted to save and stop scrapping so many cars and materials I have seen one Department lose $20 milliion dollars a year..and they thought this was good?

My fiance is pregnant and she does not have health insurance?

We are getting married early so she can get on my health insurance through my job. Will there be any reason they would deny her health insurance and say the pregnancy is a pre-existing condition?

Who decided that health insurance would be offered by employers?

My car insurance, life insurance, and house insurance is not offered through my employer. Why is my health insurance?
--------------------
The reason is rooted in our business and labor history. The history is complicated, but here's a quick outline of the specific point you are asking about. Back in the early part of the 20th century--especially the era of 'welfare capitalism" it was common for companies to offer a range of benefits to workers--and this included early forms of health insurance. Companies did this because it helped them retain skilled workers--and reduced incentives for labor activism/unrest. When the Depression of the 1930s hit, however, companies cut these benefits--including health insurance. That had become one of the most popular benefits--for the same reasons it s so well liked by employees today. Wnen--starting in the late thirties, labor organizing rose to unprecedented levels and the great labor movement tha tcontinued well into the 1950s got underway, one of the main things unions pushed for was health insurance as a job benefit. In addition, following WW2 and the return of economic prosperity, it became common again for many companies even non-union ones--to offer health insurance, at least to the extent of making group insurance available at a discount. Life insurance was another of the early 20th century benefits that was common. It never got the emphasis that health insurance did--but many plans, even today, do carry a life insurance benefit as part of the health insurance package. Car insurance simply was never a big deal until after WW2--so it never played into this historical trend. Nor did home insurance. In that regard, company benefits during the welfare capitalism era usually included company-provided housing at reduced rents, if any such benefits were provided. The main point is that the whole idea of linking health insurance to employment emerged out of this history--and the other kinds simply didn't have the same kind of background.

I have 2 different health plans, can I use the new one as my only insurance and completely ignore the other one?

the first one will expire in 6 moths, and I have no interest in using that one. Can I shred the cards from the first one and use my new insurance as my one and only health plan? Would I get any problems from the providers? Both are group health insurance. Thank You.
--------------------
shredding the card does not make the policy go away. if you don't want it anymore, you may be able to drop the coverage now. typically, enrolling in a new plan counts as a qualifying event to drop coverage before the termination date. if your policies are with the same company, they will know about both. because your new plan is from your employer it will probably be the primary policy anyway & the second one will just pick up any co-pay or out-of-pocket expenses. oh. and medical providers HATE when you don't tell them about all of your plans. it will be discovered at some point & you're just making extra work for someone else by not providing complete & accurate information.

Where to find Health insurance for a preexisting condition?

My mother is 60 and has Heart problems and is in great need of health insurance to pay for her prescriptions. She has called tons of different health insurance companies, but as soon as she tells them about her preexisting condition, they either tell her no on the spot, or tell her that she has to go through a waiting period for a year or so. She can't wait for her medicine, so I'm looking for an insurance company that would accept her without a waiting period. Please let me know anything that you think might help. Thanks

How long after I graduate college do I have until I am taken off my my parents health insurance coverage?

I will be graduating college in May 2008 and am wondering how long I have until I am removed from my parents health insurance coverage. I live in Massachusetts, will be 22 years old June 21st. Is anyone familiar with this problem?
--------------------
It depends upon your insurance company. Some companies will kick you off as soon as you graduate but some companies will allow you to stay on your parents policy until age 30 as long as you live at home and are unmarried. You need to contact the insurance company for the answer.

If you want to buy health insurance instead of using the health reform health insurance from obama?

will you be allowed to do this, and are these insurance companies going to provide very good coverage so that people will get good medical care compared to now? what do you think the trend with private insurance that you can buy for yourself will be ? Better or worse than the obama health insurance?
--------------------
Hahahaha! Right wingers are such morons!! You still buy insurance, genius. The new law protects you from being screwed by the insurance company. However perhaps they'll allow you to sign a waver so you CAN be screwed by the insurance company... Then you won't have to benefit from anything Obama did for you.

Can you help me understand health insurance in the UK?

I want to get private healthcare, but I'm unsure whether private health insurance (through BUPA or another such company) or just paying for a consultation with a private Doctor would be cheaper? If I sign up to a health insurance scheme, like BUPA, do I have to wait a period of time before I make a claim, or can I ask for treatment immediately?
--------------------
NHS is free providing you are resident and working, paying tax and NI. I suggest you telephone BUPA and ask them about if you have to wait x amount of months. As for paying cash, do not know. Either way Private or NHS, you have to be reffered by a GP and if they refuse to refer you, then you do not get any further.

Can someone whos already pregnant get on health insurance?

I've been meaning to get health insurance but now i think im pregnant and im kicking myself because i didnt get it earlier. Will an insurance agent accept me if I tell him/her im already pregnant? And if omit that, will they ask my doctor, for proof that im not being fraudulent, when i conceived the baby?
--------------------
Most of the time, if the policy HAS maternity coverage, there's a waiting period before the maternity kicks in - like 6 months to a year. So they won't cover THIS pregnancy. The only realistic way to get this pregnancy covered NOW, is to apply with your state Children's Health Insurance Program - they cover maternity benefits for the mother of the baby. There are income requirements, but they are much looser than Medicaid, and the baby already counts as a second person.

Why do so many people blame health insurance companies for the high cost of health care?

Aren't health care providers the ones charging so much in the first place? But you don't hear too many people complaining about that. Health insurance companies negotiate lower prices with providers. What would be in it for the insurance companies to have higher prices they would have to pay? Shouldn't the providers get at least as much if not more criticism?
--------------------
The real problem is greed. 36 other countries have medical systems that deliver better results than ours does, at about half the price per capita. True, doctors, lawyers, and insurance executives make far less in those countries than they do here, but for the citizens who never get a doctor bill and need never face the prospect of bankruptcy over a single illness or injury, it is clearly better. I guess the difference can be summed up like this: The rest of the world is trying to make a living--Americans would rather try to make a killing... And it is definitely costing us.

Why would he need to put our son on his health insurance?

I provide health insurance for our son, my ex wants to add him to his insurance (is asking for our son's SSN). I have not given out the number. I don't think it's even allowed to put a person on your health insurance if they don't live with you full time. Any thoughts?

Is there a law requring your company to give you X-amount of wanring before terminating your health insurance?

I was just told by my company that they are going to stop paying my health insurance as of this Thursday and that I am elligble to enroll in cobra if I so choose.... I thought they had to give you a thirty day warning?
--------------------
no warning required by group. however, they must give you the opportunity to enroll in cobra...(that may be the 30 day requirement you are thinking of) but the group plan actually belongs to the group (or company) and they can cancel/not renew at any time with or without notice.

Never had health insurance before, really dumb on the subject?

I just singed up with health insurance that also provides dental. I haven't seen a doctor in 13 years (since i was 8), so i am extremely ignorant to the process. Do i just go to the doctor and show them my card? Do I have to file a claim every time i see a physician or dentist, and is the copay all i have to pay up front, or do i have to pay the full bill and get reimbursed later? Also what can i do to prevent myself from obtaining charges that i was unaware about?
--------------------
Your first step is to select a doctor who is in network for you, that means they accept your insurance and are contracted at a discounted rate. Any network physician will file your claims for you, 99% of all practices now file claims on behalf of the patients. In a physicians office you will only pay the copay upfront. Now sometimes you will still have a small amount left over depending on your coverage for injections, blood draws, immunizations, ekg's or any extra procedures in office. If you only see the doctor with nothing else done, then it is just the copay. Now a dentist is different, the amount will depend on what your having done and your policy. Most policies pay for routine cleanings every 6 months with no copay. Any other dental work is usually a percentage of the service. Again make sure you use a network physician. It is impossible to avoid all unknown charges, it all depends on the scope of your policy, your deductibles and how much of a discount you get through your insurance policy. It may all seem overwhelming, but you will get the hang of it. Just always read your explanation of benefits and ask questions when confused.

Will there be a pre-existing condition waiting period when adding a new spouse to my health insurance?

I'm getting married next month and adding my fiance to my employer-based health insurance plan. He has a pre-existing condition and no insurance. The insurance company said they aren't allowed to deny coverage, so that's good. But are they still allowed to impose a waiting period before he can get medications or treatment for *that specific condition*? I see a lot of things saying they can't do this to kids but nothing about adults.
--------------------
They can impose a waiting period since he doesn't currently have insurance. The waiting period will depend upon the insurance company, the policy, and your state regulations but can be up to 12 months.

Does my health insurance go up the more I go to the doctor?

If I pay $115 a month for health insurance and go to the doctor 3 times in one month, and a little bit over the next few months, does my premium go up?
--------------------
No. It's not like car insurance, you don't get a "surcharge" for filing claims. As long as you keep that policy, your rates will only ever go up, when they raise the rates of EVERYONE in your class - or when you have a birthday, and are old enough to jump up to the next class.

Why are people duped into believing not having health insurance means you don't get health care?

85% of US hospitals are non-profits. It's illegal not to provide health care to people for not having insurance. Why are people being brainwashed into believing otherwise? Even the poor in the US get better health care than they do in the UK and canada.
--------------------
We have the best health care available to us only if we can afford it. Even with primary health insurance people are going blind and suffering through unbearable mouth pain because of lack of dental and vision insurance.

Does anyone know of a trustworthy and reasonable health insurance company?

I would love to quit my low paying job, to be home with my daughter. My husband is self employed and we are considering buying or own health insurance, as I'm really only working to pay for daycare and health insurance. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I just don't know which companies I can trust.
--------------------
Believe it or not, there are some companies that will provide health insurance to part-time workers. Starbucks for one. The large health care provider / hospital in my town does also. That would be a good solution to your problem. Good health insurance companies include Assurant, United Healthcare, Blue Cross Blue Shield, WPS, etc. Find out what the A. M. Best rating is for the company. They'll tell you if you ask. Anything A, A+, or A++ is good. I believe that the premium will be a tax deductible business expense for your husband's business. Check with your tax professional. Good luck.

Is vision insurance like regular health insurance in that you may not be covered if you already have glasses?

It's hard to get health insurance if you have an existing problem. Is it also hard to get vision insurance like this? I have never had vision insurance, but hope to get it soon. I am nearsighted in one eye and have astigmatism in the other, which are pretty common problems; but, even common problems make normal insurance difficult!
--------------------
no. vision insurance just spreads the cost of an annual eye exam and glasses/contacts out over the course of a years premiums. thats it. it doesnt matter whats wrong with your eyes. they wont even ask you whats wrong with your eyes when you apply. it doesnt matter. so the answer is no...you cannot be "denied" a vision plan for a pre-existing vision problem. not that i've ever heard of anyway

What can I expect for health insurance costs as an early retiree?

I'm 35 now and plan to retire around 40 or 41. I'm not exorbitantly rich, though; I've just saved enough to support my expenses and will do what I want instead of going to work every day. What I don't have a good handle on are my options for health insurance (before reaching age 65 and Medicare, or whatever age at which Medicare will be available in 30-40 years). Are there any in the industry who have seen similar situations and have suggestions about what to expect? Thanks, Doug
--------------------
First and foremost, you need to make sure that you can qualify for an individual policy. In most states (Nevada here) Individual Health Insurance is not guaranteed issue. This means if you have pre-existing conditions, you may not qualify. Second, the coverage will be very reasonable ($150 - $350 per month) till you hit the great age of 50 - then rates really start going up. If you are in good health, you should consider looking into Health Savings Account qualified plans - lower premiums and protect you from catestropic events. If you choos to open the HSA - you can fund the account with pre-tax dollars and pay for qualified medical expenses tax free. This is also a great financial vehicle to save for future medical expenses. In your situation, this may be a good option. I hope this helps

do you have to provide health insurance for employee?

I am trying to hire an employee for the first time and I want to know what I need to provide for them. It's a small company and hiring just 1 employee. I heard that it's mandatory for employer to provide health insurance for employee in ny. How many benefits do I need to provide for them and what are the steps i need to take to hire an sales person by law?
--------------------
It's a policy decision YOU have to make - pay the person more or subsidize his medical costs. You "company" is not large enough to be covered by any Federal or State laws in this regard.
