do USA government workers get fabulous pensions and health insurance after retirement?

i'm thinking postal workers, but I guess that would mean TSA agents too?
--------------------
Mostly those that are voted into office, because they do not have to play by the rules the rest of us do, and special interest groups, and their cronies take care of them when they do not get reelected.

What's the average cost of a Health insurance plan in New york?

I am moving from Europe to work in New York, can someone explain to me how the system works, and if it is age depending cost.
--------------------
Yes, it depends on age, and overall health. NY is a guaranteed issue state - so they MUST take you - so on average, it will cost you twice as much, as, say, PA. So if you're 20 and perfectly healthy, and not overweight, in NY the average low/no deductible comprehensive health insurance policy runs around $400 a month.

does lens crafters axcept golden rule health insurance?

im going to be buying contacts but a lot of eye doctors dont axcept golden rule united health care insurance so i would like to know if lens crafters axcept it?
--------------------
If you picked up the vision plan (which is additional) then you'd need to contact them to see who takes it. Start with your broker. That's why you use a broker to get some direction. It's easier to contact the insurance company to find out where you can use it instead of calling all of the providers to see if they take it.

Why do my health care insurance premiums go up annually even though I have not used it at all in the year?

Do private insurance companies (and thus its customers) actually end up paying for hospital bills of the uninsured (once the original person declares bankruptcy, etc.)? Why do my premiums have to go up for someone else? Why can't we just throw the uninsured in jail until they can pay their hospital bill?

I have a question about federal health insurance and politicians.?

Where can I find out which congressmen/women and senators have health insurance through the federal goverment?
--------------------
Unless they're making some kind of statement (and one Congressperson has, but I've forgotten his name), all full-time civilian federal employees are covered by the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program.

If you sign up for a company health insurance, do you HAVE to pay for it for a full year?

Can you just drop it if you decide you don't want it within 6 months? What will happen if you don't pay?
--------------------
Once you sign up for it, you can only drop it during open enrollment, once a year, unless you die or leave the job. It comes out of your paycheck, so you don't have the option of not paying.

My mom can not afford her health insurance?

My mom had brain surgery to remove 2 aneurysms. She now is physically disabled and can not work. Her health is so poor she will probably never work again. Her health insurance company she had with her old job just dropped her and I found a company named Cobra that will accept her for now but they want almost 1,000 now and then over 400 a month. No one in our family can afford this sort of payment and she has to have health insurance. She is 62 years old. Would she qualify for medicare? What would you do in my situation? I am so worried thanks..
--------------------
she needs to apply for disability. Be aware that she may be turned down the first attempt, most people are. She also needs to see about the Medicare option as well since the disability is only going to cover her lost income, not provide medical insurance. Be aware also, (at least in the state that I live in) if she doesn't continue her insurance coverage through Cobra, if more than 60 days go by, she will be placed on a "previous condition" clause for a year. If she should buy a temporary policy through another company, or lucky enough to feel better to get another job, it doesn't matter, the pre existing condition will still apply. Which means any medical costs incurred due to her recent condition will not be covered.

Maternity coverage and switching health insurance?

If you switch insurance companies in the middle of a pregnancy, is the new policy required to cover pre and post-natal care, and labor & delivery?
--------------------
If you are switching to a group policy the new policy cannot exclude pregnancy in most cases. If you are trying to switch to an individual policy the new policy will not accept you if pregnant.

What do we need in order to qualify for getting health/life insurance?

I heard that some insruane companies wouldn't allow individuals over 60+ years old for getting an insurance, especially those who are foreigners, is this true? Why they not allow that?
--------------------
This is not true. It is a common misconception that people over age 60 can't get life or health insurance. I work with mostly retired people and have never had a problem getting life insurace coverage provided they are in good health. People over te age of 60 are not considered high risk. Rates Life insurance companies charge are based on mortality tables (likelyhood of death based on current age and life expectancy) Yor current health can have an effect on the cost of the insurance was well as your age. A person who has some health problem in many cases can still quilify for life insurance just at a rated cost (higher premium due to health). Depending on the amount of life insurance you intend to apply for will determine that requirements to quilify. Every company has different requirements based on age and amount of coverage being applied for. With many companies if you applying for over $100,000 they may require a Paramed with blood and urine (at the expense of the insurance company). In some cases they may request to see the medical records (the insurance company orders them direct form the doctor). A resting EKG is also another thing they may want and is done at the same time as the paramed (again the insurance company pays this expense). Health insurance is a little different. They focus on morbidity which is the likelyhood of illness based on your current health and family history (parents, brothers and sisters). It can me more difacult to quilify for this type of coverage if you have exsisting medical issues. If you are working with an agent, ask him or her to submit your current health to the underwritter fo a ruleing. This can help you decide which company is most likely to insure you based on your health and family history.

Can a LLC claim health insurance payments (COBRA) as an expense? Family amt deductible or just individual?

The LLC is comprised of only me (the owner, president, etc.). I was paying COBRA for me and my two children.
--------------------
If you're paying cobra for your family then I'll have to assume it was from a previous regular job - not the LLC. That would make it personal so it goes on Schedule A as a medical expense subject to the 7.5% floor. And even if it was from your single member LLC it would end up being an adjustment to income on your 1040, not an expense on the schedule C.

Health insurance to travel to Europe?

I have no health insurance and I'm going to go to France in a college trip for three weeks next semester and I need a traveler's insurance. Where can I get such thing? I don't want to get a whole health insurance.

Try Squaremouth. There is a section dedicated to travelers who need just medical insurance while abroad. Squaremouth is a comparison site so has lots of choice. You can sort by price and amount of cover etc. http://www.squaremouth.com/visitors-insu…

To keep or cancel health insurance?

I'm using student loans to pay my expensive health insurance - should I cancel it now that the health care bill has passed? I really can't afford it, but do not like being one that contributes to tax increases or deficits. If you could elaborate on your opinions, that would really help...I'm trying to gain more knowledge before making a decision but am having a hard time figuring out my explanation. Also, I never go to the doctor. I am in decent shape and very healthy, I maybe get a few colds a year.

Doh, missed the 30 day deadline to get newborn baby on health insurance. Now what?

I am assuming I have to pay the $3000 dollars we owe ourselves? We didn't know about a deadline and the paperwork we were given got misplaced. Any ways to get some of those bills covered?
--------------------
First thing tomorrow call your insurance agent. You'll probably still be able to add and get coverage retroactively. The thing they might try to fight you on is getting pre-existing conditions covered (though your child probably doesn't have any, but you want the option open if anything develops).

is it true that Joe Six Pack is an alcoholic because his boss Joe the Plumber doesn't provide health insurance?

And Joe is freaking out about his kid's medical condition.
--------------------
That's only part of the problem. Joe six pack is stressed out because Joe the Plumber pays him minimum wage, and he can't afford to pay the bills. Joe the Plumber also doesn't give him enough hours, so not only does he make minimum wage, he can't even work full time. He is pissed that he can only afford cheap beer, and it's so watered down he can't even get a buzz off the six pack, the only thing he gets is gas and a debit of $5 from his bank account. He's also upset that his former favorite beer, Bud, is now owned by a company in Europe, so that's why he doesn't drink it anymore. Joe six pack is worried that Joe the Plumber will lay him off any day since Joe the Plumber wants to keep as much money for himself and wants to minimize his "costs" to pay his employees. Joe the Plumber is a little selfish with his money and cares more about the profit in his pocket than caring for his employees and providing them stability and group health insurance. Joe six pack now is in rehab for alcohol addiction, so when he applies for individual health insurance, he gets declined because he is high risk since he's an alcoholic, obese because of his beer gut, and has liver damage and high blood pressure. So he can't get coverage for himself or his family, and since his isn't HIPAA eligible, he has no access to health insurance.

I have the option to have my health insurance taken out of my check pre tax or post tax?

What does that mean and which one will leave me with the most take home pay at the end of the week
--------------------
Take the pre tax option. That portion of the check is not taxable income which puts you in a lower tax bracket and saves you from paying income tax on that portion of your check. If you make $50,000 per year and pay $5000 in health insurance you will only be taxed on $45,000 at year end (not including your other deductions.) The only time you should consider taking post tax (taxes are taken from your check before you pay for health insurance) is if you plan on collecting at the end of the year. Go with pre tax option.

Who should pay for health insurance?

I go to school full time and we have 2 children. My husband is self-employed and we have no health insurance. The children do, medicaid. My husband says when I am done with school, I should work full time to provide the family with health insurance. When I am sick and need to go to the doctor, he gives me attitude because we will incur another bill. I say if he wants to be self-employed, he should make enough to pay for it, or get a real job.
--------------------
First, having health insurance for yourself is important. One way or another you need to get some. At this point, since your husband is the sole breadwinner, he should pay for health insurance. There are plans out there for small businesses. What do you want to do after you finish school? If you desire, you can work part-time or full time. A full time job may provide you with some great insurance. Only work full time if you need the money or you want to. Do what is right for your family. Your children come first.

What could be the reason that Obama sometimes says mandated health insurance is a tax and sometimes he says it?

is not a tax? He initially stated mandated insurance is not a tax but now states (in response to lawsuits) that it is a tax.
--------------------
It depends who he is talking to. If he is trying to convince the electorate that he isn't breaking is no new taxes on the Middle Class then he claims it isn't a tax. When he is trying to convince a judge that it is Constitutional then it is a tax. He is the most openly dishonest President we have ever had..

Voluntary health insurance: you voluntarily choose to have other people pay your bills?

Why do those who are pro-insurance seem to forget that other people are paying off their medical bills through their premiums? What happened to conservatives paying their own way in life? Hey republicans and conservatives: how about you pay your medical bills and I'll pay mine, and we do away with insurance.
--------------------
It might indeed have been better if things had remained that way. Health insurance was, after all, quite unusual before World War II. Two of the effects of the expanding insurance industry have been (1) costs have outstripped the rate of inflation by a good margin and (2) philanthropy, with the wealthy donating entire hospitals at times, has essentially disappeared from the scene. I don't quite see how the clock could be turned back, though.

Travelling to Canada for 3 months - where can I get health insurance to cover me?

Hi...I'm leaving Australia shortly to spend at least 3 months in Canada. I will have no health insurance in Canada unless/until I spend 3 months in a province I think. I've looked into travel insurance and most only seem to cover accidents etc, but I want one that covers health generally, so if I get sick, I can see a Doctor. Any idea where I can get this? Thanks
--------------------
Try Blue Cross (or Blue Cross/Blue Shield). They're an international organization, with a lot of coverage for North America in general (including Canada and the US). It's what we use when traveling, regardless of where we're going int he world. The link ties you to the Canadian arm of Blue Cross ... which makes sense, since that's where you're headed.

Will a health insurance provider pay for the removal of a cyst from my foreskin by circumcision?

If a physician removes the cyst from my foreskin by removing the foreskin alltogether, will insurance cover that?
--------------------
Since the cyst will affect your health, yes, it should cover the circumcision. You will probably need to pay some fees (co-pay and what not) regardless. You should ask if you can get half circumcised so you can keep some of your foreskin (yes it's possible). But that's only if the cyst is towards the tip.
