How would a Universal health care public option put private health insurance out of business ?

How would a Universal health care public option put private health insurance out of business ?
--------------------
If the public option was efficiently managed, was open to anyone who applied, and offered decent coverage at more affordable rates than private insurance, it could drive private insurance providers out of business because they would lose customers and the business would no longer be profitable for them. They would probably switch to offering supplemental insurance for things not covered by the public plan. That's how it works in many other countries. The limited and watered-down public option that the Democrats proposed wouldn't have been a competitive threat to private insurance companies. But they were afraid it could have been expanded into a real, "robust" public option in the future, which is why they killed it.

How do American doctors generally feel about the fact that 47 million people don't have health insurance?

Does it bother doctors? Do they feel bad that they cannot perform a necessary procedure on a patient who is underinsured or uninsured? Are some doctors only in the profession for money? Do doctors have a future plan for treating patients without health insurance? I ask this because we often hear from folks in the government on this issue. But how do doctors themselves feel about this type of stuff?
--------------------
Physicians are fed up with insurance companies practicing medicine. We would LOVE to be able to treat patients appropriately, and charge reasonable fees, but the insurance companies, and the government, have made sure that won't happen. Very few of us are in this for the money. I could make MUCH more doing things that take less time, training, expense and risk, and don't involve blood, vomit and poop. Many of us reduce our fees for those who are less able to pay, but we still carry 100% of the risk of being sued, and still have 100% of OUR costs, which continue to go up while reimbursements stay the same or go down. People in the government are all talk and no trousers, as my British friends would say. We need serious changes, but the insurance companies buy the politicians, so I don't see THAT happening any time soon.

Whats a good cheap health insurance for a college student needing ADD medicine with a min wage job?

Like I said I only have a min wage job, and I completely support myself. I desperately need ADD meds, but I have NO health insurance. I need to be able to afford the health insurance too. I am a college student. I make about 300 every two weeks. any suggestions on what I should do?
--------------------
There is no such thing as a good and cheap health insurance policy. With health insurance you get what you pay for. Also, with ADD you may have trouble finding a company that will accept you. Some companies will accept if you are on one med and the ADD is controlled. Most will decline or rider the ADD or will increase the premium if you are taking more than one med. If you have any other pre-existing conditions it will be even harder to find a policy. You should first check with the school. Most colleges have a student plan available for a reasonable premium. If that doesn't work find a local agent that works with all the major companies in your area. The agent can find the plans that will accept you if there are any. There is no extra charge using an agent. You should also check your states Medicaid website to see if you qualify for Medicaid.

Most Comprehensive Health Insurance for a College Student?

I'll be going to college in a few years, and I'm fully aware of the healthcare crisis. Although money is an issue, my health is more important. Assuming that money is not an issue, what health insurance company provides the most comprehensive and inclusive health insurance policies available? Is there an insurance company out there that will let me do the following? - Choose my own doctor/hospitol - Pay relatively low co-pays - Cover the cost of any prescriptions - Pay for health, medical, eye, and dental on one plan - Pay for the majority of any psychotherapist appointments - Continue coverage despite sudden circumstances (major illness, accident, etc.) - Cover the cost/majority of a specialist upon doctor reccommendation Does such a health insurance plan exist, besides the plan available from the state?
--------------------
You need to look at each university's website to see what they offer. Most offers PPO plans, which lets you see anyone (in the network). Dental plan is usually an option. No plans cover everything--if one exists, it will not be affordable. They're there to make profit, after all. This means no plans cover all prescriptions.

Why would someone not want to have health insurance?

I would like to see what the problem is with health insurance. Can you find any reason someone would logically turn down health insurance?
--------------------
Some people would rather pay for " essentials " like $ 100 Nike Sneakers, $ 1900 Car Audio Systems, Tommy Hilfigar Clothes, " Bling ", $ 1500 worth of Tattoos, Weed, etc. rather than wasting their money on " non-essentials " like health insurance premiums.

Does a single mother have rights to the father's health insurance?

Pretty much what the question says. Would the mother of my child (I'm the father) have a legal right to my health insurance? We are not married, otherwise it would be simple. If not, what are some options for her? She works a part time job and doesn't get any benefits, and is primarily a stay at home mom.
--------------------
No, she doesn't, but the child does.

Am I eligible for pregnancy emergency medicaid eventhogh I have valid health insurance?

I am in the last month of my pregnancy. My status is a legal nonimmigrant alien, my husband just got job, although it pays very small it gives health insurance for the family with $200 copay for labor/birth. We think that we need to have support for post natal supplies and needs for the baby. Do you think we can still receive and uses emergency medicaid for labor/birth with 1 year postnatal support? Your oppinion, info and experience are greatly appreciated. Thank you.
--------------------
Try WIC. Also speak to the hospital where you are having the baby many hospital have a payment plan. Otherwise they will expect the money before you go into hospital. When I had go into hospital to deliver I had to go in about week before my due date and pay the copay in full which for me was $250. If you didn't have insurance you would have to pay $8,000 for a natural birth and $15,000+ for a c-section. So when you look at that $200 is nothing! Also look at getting a health care 'visa ' card. (for health care/prescription only) This is where your husband employers would take out a set agreed amount out of his wages each month (tax free) so it will help pay for large expenses like this. With regard to diapers and milk sign up on line for most of these companies will send you free samples and tons of coupons. For clothes try second hand store, in my area they have 'Once upon a child'. Or clearance in large stores. Health check/wellness visit at the doctor is covered by the insurance, I do not have to pay for any wellness visits for my child.

How can I save on health care when I can't afford health insurance?

I need medical, dental, vision, and prescription benefits for cheap! Help! Health insurance costs so much and no pre-existing conditions are accepted!
--------------------
Your best bet to save on health care costs, is to take preventative measures. Excercise regularly, maintain your weight in a healthy limit (not too thin, or too fat), don't smoke, drive defensively, and be selective in your physical activities (horseback riding DOES have accidents, and some sports like hockey & rugby have a LOT of injuries).

Needing health insurance for my pregnant wife?

My wife is currently pregnant. We have been shopping around for health insurance, but no one we have found will insure her because she is currently pregnant. Do any of you know of a company that might insure her?
--------------------
I doubt you will find any private insurance company that would take on a currently pregnant woman, and none will cover her maternity costs (most have a 12+ month waiting period before maternity is covered). You should look into state health care. Some states will automatically cover a pregnant woman without insurance.

Need 6 units to graduate, but need 12 units to cover health insurance next semester?

I need only 2 more classes to graduate next semester. However, I need to be a full-time student to be covered under my fathers health insurance plan. I plan on just going to the classes I need to take, and having the other two classes as credit/no credit. Has anyone ever done this, is this a good way to do it, or is there an alternative?

What health insurance can I apply for?

I'm in California, in my 30s, and just recently been laid off. Though my plans are to become a full time student this summer. What health insurance plans can I start applying for besides COBRA?
--------------------
You may be able to get an individual policy--if you are relatively healthy. Take a look at your school and see if they offer any health plans. Then you could get a short term policy until you start school. As far as an individual policy or short term policy, check with an independant agent in your area. They will be able to show you many different plans and varying premiums and benefits.

Does health insurance bill say the reason for visit?

When your health insurance bill comes in the mail, does it say the reason for your visit to the hospital or just the charges that are on the bill? Thanks.
--------------------
It doesn't say the reason but it does give a category of the procedure, such as "lab work".

I am a single mother, full time student, and one kid. What is the best health insurance to get?

I work as a waitress, go to school full time, and have a 7yr old girl. I need to know what is the best health insurance that I can get for her, or us?
--------------------
Either find a local independent insurance agent (one who represents several insurance companies) or use one of the online services that connects with several insurers. Those methods will let you compare several possibilities. Otherwise it's more like guesswork. Here's one resource that lists a couple of the online services that I've found to work well...

If there was affordable health insurance would there be early retirements and jobs for the youth?

I know several that work just for the health insurance.
--------------------
Years ago for my parents and most people who grew up in the last 70 to 80 years, when you retired, most companies paid a pension and continued your health insurance. So when you hit 65, medicare kicked in and your old employer picked up the supplement health, you had a pension plus social security. That's pretty good since like in my fathers case, he retired at age 55 with all of the above benefits. Today that is not the case, most employers are dropping health insurance for retirees due to the high cost. Very few employers provide pensions anymore and now we have 401K that we have to pay a high percentage of the cost with some help from our employers, but we are at risk that the 401K we choose makes money or loses a lot after the financial crisis a year ago. With a pension it was guaranteed just like social security that every month you would receive a check in a certain amount. Now many people are being forced to work to age 65 or fear if they retire early, could lose their health insurance and the cost they pay to their employer is about 1/2 cost vs a private plan if you are healthy enough to buy. If you could take out the health insurance out of the equation on retiring or keep working, yes, many might choose to retire early, but that is not going to happen as health insurance just keeps rising and will continue till someone figures out a way to get it under control.

Isn't it a violation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights to mandate health insurance?

Article 20: Everyone has the right to freedom of peaceful assembly and association. No one may be compelled to belong to an association. Doesn't that mean that I can't be compelled to belong to the association of those with health insurance?

Ask the citizens of Germany and Japan what they think of your proposition. Most will laugh, even though the laws of those countries require everyone to subscribe to some health insurance policy or another...

Is it really legal to be denied emergency health aid if you dont have insurance?

My nieces mother called me today and told me that she went into the emergency room with chest pain. The doctors found a clot in her arm leading to her heart (she has always had health problems). The emergency room called every cardiologist in our city. Every single one of them refused to see her because she doesn't have health insurance. Is this really legal, that in an emergency they refuse to see her? What can she do, she doesn't have the money to afford insurance? Any suggestions? Please, and Thank you guys.
--------------------
They have to treat you regardless of whether or not you can pay. If that clots bursts and she dies there is one hell of a lawsuit the doctors have on their hands. Good luck and get a lawyer!

Does anyone know the laws regarding changing health insurance?

Does anyone know the laws regarding changing health insurance companies due to job change while being treated for a particular (non-life threatening) condition? Will you be refused coverage for continued treatment or is there some way around this legally? Thanks in advance for any info.
--------------------
When you change jobs, and have been covered by a Health policy from your previous company, that company is required to offer you COBRA coverage. This coverage allows you to continue with the previous insurance company, and they will continue treating you for all your conditions. The negative about COBRA is that you have to make the payments out of your pocket and they have to be made in advance for the next month. In your new job, if they have Health Insurance through an HMO, the HMO will treat all of your previous conditions. If they have coverage, but not through an HMO, you will have to get it in writing that they will cover your previous condition. Not all will cover previous conditions, but some will. Good Luck

Were to find information of people without health insurance in the US?

I need to find a table of people in the US without health insurance by age and sex. Any help please?
--------------------
Is there a database of people who don't have i-Pods? Is there a database of people who don't 12" frying pans? So why would there be such a database as the one you're asking? There are databases of people who have things, but not people who don't have certain things as it would be impossible to keep such a list up to date.

Does any one know of any good health insurance companies with low rates?

I reside in atlanta Ga and I am in need of health insurance but I'm on a budget. Please help? Only seriouse inquiries please
--------------------
i do not know of any reasonable full coverage rates. i looked into it and i do not think that i would spend enough money to get back what i paid out in premiums. UNLESS some unforseen medical bill , such as unplanned surgery or a heart attack or something happened. the agent advised me that it is less expensive to get insurance coverage just for major medical . example of how they explained that worked is that major medical insurance plans don't pay for routine office visits , like you get sick with a flu. they don't help with insurance prescription antibiotics. if you have a sudden appedectomy and have a 20 thousand dollar hospital bill then they would pay because it's a major medical bill. i was also advised that you can set up bank insurance accounts / think it might have been called flexible spending account. you can set aside what your forcasted out of pocket medical/dental expenses would be for a year and contribute to the account and you do not pay tax on it. it has a pre tax value of roughly 30 percent. the problem with this is that if you do not use the full money / you lose it. probably want to underbudget for your forcasted annual medical expenses rather than overbudget ? Hope it helps and that you find a good insurance plan or a part time job that offers health insurance assuming you and able to work. Take care.
