Is my employer going to be required to pay for my health insurance or just make it available for me to buy?

If they only have to make it available then how is it any different than now? Insurance is available to me if I pick up the phone and call an insurance company.

You will still be able to get insurance. It will cost you more and cover you less. We Working People are so screwed. But the Senior Citizens and Elderly are really going to get Nailed.

What health insurance would you recommend for a LLC business owner?

Our last insurance ended 12/14/05. Both owners do not take a paycheck. Wife is not listed as an owner & would like to have more children. Wife is currently not pregnant. All employees work under 25 hours/ week. Don't have a lot of money for insurance so would like to keep it as cheap as possible as long as it has prescription coverage for a child. NEED ADVICE ASAP! Thanks!
--------------------
You need to find a good agent to recommend the best carrier but in order of least expensive to most expensive HMO, POS, Direct Access, PPO You may be able to get by with the HMO with a hospital copay rider and prescription card. It wont be the absolute cheapest but good coverage with low risk exposure. I'm not sure where you are from so its hard to say what company is best in your area.

Temporary health insurance for foreign visitors to San Francisco?

My grandmother is coming to San Francisco for two weeks from Japan. She has a heart condition and I want to be prepared in case she needs medical attention during her stay. Is there any insurance policy that I can purchase? My understanding is that person's with pre-existing conditions, are not covered by travelers insurance. Thank you.

does this sound like a reasonable deal on health insurance?

I am 24, so I am too old to be on my mom's health insurance plan, but I am also a graduate student, so I don't have a full-time job, so I can't get insurance through my job. I recently found a plan for about $180 a month and a $500 deductible, $20 copay for doctor visits, etc. Does this sound like a reasonable deal? It seems expensive to me, but I know that individual health insurance is through the roof these days.
--------------------
What you pay for health insurance is based on age, for someone your age the individual situation doesn't make too much difference. $180 sounds about right to me, I'm 43 and have a 17 year old son, I pay $632 per month for about the same deal you've got.

With the 1099 for the value of health insurance, what happens to people on Social Security?

Will that value of the insurance be added to their income? How about people still working? What if we don't have the money to pay the new Obama Tax? I have no idea the value of my insurance provided by my employer. All I know is that should grind the economy to a complete halt.
--------------------
Amazing how much Free Health Care is going to cost, isn't it? And guess what...people still aren't going to be able to afford it, but now they will have to buy it anyway. If it were such a good idea, the government wouldn't have had to make participation mandatory. Be careful what you demand a 'Right' to, because there are no 'rights' without 'obligations'.

Why is it that employers are saddled with providing health insurance to their employees?

If a company pays a worker a wage and that worker going out and blows it on beer and candy instead of health care it's not the companies fault. If that same person spends all his/her paycheck on junk but fails to pay the rent/mortgage , is the employer responsible for providing living quarters?
--------------------
Have you ever priced an independent health care policy? The are extremely expensive. If a company can bargain with the health care company for a group rate it is a benefit for all. First of all, less of the employee's paycheck has to go to paying for a policy. As for the company, they get a healthier work force (because they are more likely to go to the doctor when necessary), with less absenteeism. The company also will find it easier to attract employees, because all things being equal, a prospective employee with chose the company with a health care plan.

Should I sell Health Insurance with scrapbook supplies?

I want to start selling health insurance along with scrapbook supplies. Will that work? Has someone else done that? Should I move to Utah? How do you get earwax out of carpets? Thanks! Nick Young, President, CEO, Marketeer GreenPond Scrapbook/Health Insurance
--------------------
I doubt sincerely that people would take an insurance company that also sells scapbooking supplies very seriously. As for the move to Utah, go for it! What do you have to lose? And, how would one go about getting earwax on carpet in the first place?

So how much do you end up paying for Starbucks health insurance?

Like if I went to see the doctors and needed to do some test, xrays, how much would it cost me? Where would I see this doctor at? Kaiser? What about mental health? To see a therapist?

Read your policy or employee handbook. I assume you are a Starbucks employee.

Can you get health insurance for just your child, and not yourself?

Live in MI, need health ins for my 2 year old, but dont want to cover mysefl or husband. Can i do this?
--------------------
Yes. In Michigan Blue Cross Blue Shield has to insure anyone who applies, and you can get a policy just for your child. However, Blue Cross may not be your best option. If you child has no pre-existing conditions then you can do better buying a policy through Aetna or one of the other medical insurance carriers. If your daughter has a health condition then you may find that Blue Cross Blue Shield is your only option as most carriers will not cover someone for whom they can foresee actually having to make payments. I live in Michigan and have been through this process myself. Good luck to you.

Whats the best health insurance to take in Singapore?

And what are the benefits in the insurance u r suggesting?
--------------------
It all depends what your needs are. Typically the Asian market will offer you two choices; Local health insurance or International health insurance. If you are a citizen of Singapore and resident in the country then your choices, in regards to an international health insurance plan are limited (good health will not provide cover and neither will Interglobal; IHI and Allianz are distinct possibilities though). You will be able to obtain a local health insurance plan through one of the many providers on the singaporean market. There are some major differences in both types of plan (local vs International). 1. International health insurance is globally portable (you can use it outside singapore) while local health insurance is generally not and you will need to purchase additional cover if going overseas. 2. International health insurance is generally guaranteed renewable for life (even if you develop a chronic condition you are guaranteed continuing coverage) while local plans can deny you coverage if your claims are too high. 3. International health insurance premiums are generally calculated on a community rating so you are guaranteed the same price as everyone else in your age group (based on age and geographical area of coverage), Local health insurance will normally calculate premiums based on a policyholders claims history. Overall it is really a question of what benefits you want and where you see yourself going in the future. Both Local and international health insurance plans will offer you a number of coverage options (from maternity coverage through to emergency evacuation and repatriation protection) so it is quite literally a question of what protection you and your family need. It is quite typical, however, for international plans to have much higher levels of coverage than local plans, and international health insurance policies will allow you more flexibility in terms of choosing your coverage options. However, without knowing a little more about your situation, and your needs, i can't tell you any more. i hope this has been helpful

Do you have health insurance for you and your family?

I am asking this question because there seems to be more and more people who are choosing not to pay for health coverage(Canada excluded here). Are you one of those people I am mentioning here? If so, what is your reason? You know you are going to need to use it at some point for you or your loved ones!
--------------------
I have no health insurance, and I am a nurse!! The simple fact of the matter is, I cannot afford it. To get insurance on myself alone, due to pre-existing conditions, would cost 800 dollars a month, I don't make enough money to be able to afford that kind of monthly payment and eat. I prefer to eat, thank you.

How should I celebrate being turned down for health insurance?

Apparently, "awesome" is a pre-existing condition. OK, I have to point this out: the Yamster thinks that being gay is a better place to put this than "insurance?" That little rodent has got to go. PS Happy Valentine's Day. Society & Culture > Cultures & Groups > Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgendered Business & Finance > Insurance Pregnancy & Parenting > Pregnancy Society & Culture > Holidays > Valentine's Day Pregnancy & Parenting > General - Pregnancy & Parenting

Divorce, separation or still married (living apart) how is health insurance handled?

Divorce, separation or still married (living apart) how is health insurance handled? Married and insured on a group plan, but things look shaky right now. We both use our health care and have pre existing conditions. I know others have dealt with the same issue, I hope to get some idea if things fall apart.
--------------------
Your insurance will be covered until the divorce is final if it is through either parties work. Then you are on your own. With the new health laws, if you get insurance immediately, they cannot deny you health coverage for pre-existing conditions. If you are on a group plan individually, they may be able to 'split' you up but each of you will have to pay your own share. If you didn't work, you may be able to ask for the other party to cover you for a year in the divorce. Good luck.

Wouldn't Universal Health Care be bad for those who already have health insurance?

Because the amount of available health care would increase just the number of people availing themselves of it. Thus my share of the health care pie would be reduced or at least take longer to get. Also wouldn't I wind up somehow paying for the people who can't afford it now through higher taxes? I know the doctors aren't going to volunteer anything.
--------------------
um....dude...universal health care would ELIMINATE the need for health insurance....

Why are Republicans against covering the health insurance of children?

The new health reform bill includes tax breaks and coverage for millions more children living below the poverty line. Why oppose this?
--------------------
this is nothing new. during bushs term they voted against expanding the chip program which was specifically for covereing low income children. my conclusion is that the gop only like rich people or corporations. everyone else is expendable . whats was rumsfields excuse for sending troops without equipment. you send them with what you have. however since the date for war was arbitrary they could easily have supplied our guys with armore or vehicles. they just dont care .

Do you think it would be ok for an 18 year old to not have health insurance for two months?

I'm only going to be a part-time student this term at my community college due to some issues with a class, but this way I cannot be included on my moms health insurance so do you think it would be ok for me to go without health insurance for about two months and a few days?
--------------------
You can buy temporary insurance from most insurance plans. Tell them how long you need it for and they'll give you a quote-some are online quotes. You don't want to be with out insurance. If you have anything go wrong with you and need to see the doctor or go to the ER you'll be paying hundreds or thousands of dollars. I didn't have insurance for a few months ended up in the ER and it cost over $2000 for about 2 hrs. It's 2 yrs later and I'm still paying it off. It's cheaper to buy temp insurance then pay a huge bill.

So our real enemy is the health insurance industry right?

Kind of like the Fox guarding the chicken coop. Unchecked he will avoid those most in need and gorge himself on those who feed him best. Those with the fat to feed his crazy lifestyle. What is the enormous overhead that warrants such high premiums besides malpractice insurance. Isn't that for quack doctors that don't know what they are doing. Like Phd's that got their licences from third world countries and American "C" grade rich students that want to stay rich off the sick and dying.
--------------------
Amen, my brother!
Source

What is WRONG with the current standings of our health insurance companies?

The quality (and amount of people who actually care) of the United States healthcare system is comparable to that of third world countries. why? how has it gotten this bad?
--------------------
It is a for profit system. Corporations have repeatedly proved that they are not good stewards of the public interest. Did you notice that the AMA got tired of doctors being ranked by insurance companies so they turned the tables and started ranking health insurance companies. More interesting is that former Senate majority leader Bill Frist's company, United Health was ranked dead last by the AMA.

How many people on Y/A work at jobs that do NOT supply health insurance?

If company's pass on their expense of advertising to customers, shouldn't they offer their employee's health care and pass that on to customers?
--------------------
Employers who provide health insurance DO pass their cost on to customers. So people who say they don't want to pay for other people's healthcare actually ARE paying for other people's healthcare through the higher cost of everything they buy. Even if you aren't insured, yourself, you are paying for other people's health insurance. Kind of makes a national healthcare system seem more rational, doesn't it. EDIT: The thumbs downs are funny. People don't like to hear the truth.

Drink TONS of cranberry or cranapple juice. You will feel like you are going to throw it up after a while, but also drink some water with it to aviod the cotton mouth that comes from drinking cranberry juice.
