Do you think it would be ok for an 18 year old to not have health insurance for two months?

I'm only going to be a part-time student this term at my community college due to some issues with a class, but this way I cannot be included on my moms health insurance so do you think it would be ok for me to go without health insurance for about two months and a few days?
--------------------
Yeah, you'll probably be fine.

Does PA CHIPS give you good service? State paid health Insurance?

I am eligible for the state sponsored health care coverage at a reduced cost (for my kids), but I am want to make sure it is decent insurance. Does anyone know anything about it? It would save me about $100/ month, which would be a huge help, but I don't want bad health Ins. Everyone is my family is healthy. Visiting the doc just for stuff like strep throat a couple times a year.
--------------------
It's ok, just like any government run service. There aren't as many doctors that take welfare health insurance (chips) so you likely will have to wait longer for appointments.

What percentage of Americans currently with health insurance oppose the health insurance mandate?

If you could point me to a poll that would be great. (That's what she said. But seriously. Thanks.)
--------------------
I don't know, but I am. I have insurance paid by my employer. $5 million lifetime limit. $1500/year deductible which is reimbursed at the end of the year through a second policy (also paid for by my employer ) My wife carries through her employer a catastrophic medical insurance policy with a $6000 deduct-able. The premiums are very reasonable for her portion. Under the current Health INSURANCE, not Health Care bill we both will lose those policies. Me because of the 40% tac that will be imposed making mine too expensive for my employer to continue to offer it. My wife will lose hers because it will be illegal to have that kind of policy. Her Health Savings Account which has been more than adequate will be eliminated. We will both be forced to pay much more for our medical insurance. I will certainly have less coverage and she will have more coverage for things she will never use. In addition, my 18 year old son who has fairly decent coverage at reasonable cost to him will probably lose his. Why would his employer pay for it when the law requires that he be eligible under one of his parents policies until he is 26? Strange that when I was self employed and did not have medical insurance my wife had an emergency C Section ( at 4 A.M ) and the public did not pay for any of the cost. I did. I also paid every dime for two other kids. My wife3 did have insurance for our daughter. I would have been supportive of a bill that provided catastrophic coverage. That is what insurance is for.

Are there any Privet health insurance companies in Great Briton?

or is there only government controlled health care? Can anyone tell me if any country that has a "public option" for health care also has competing privet companies?
--------------------
Yes, we have loads in the uk. You can get both free health care under the NHS, or private care (which you pay for) under private arrangements. Most people opt for the free NHS.

How do health insurance premiums work?

Are premiums raised every time you get sick like premiums are raised every time you get in an auto-accident? If you get an existing condition WHILE being covered under an individual plan, do they raise premiums by a lot?
--------------------
No, they don't surcharge you for putting in claims or getting sick. When you first apply, they put you in a "category". You stay in that wellness category, and your rates only go up when you get to a new AGE category. They can't downgrade your wellness category, and they can't surcharge you or cancel you because of claims. It's not at ALL like car insurance.

How much do Americans spend on health insurance each year?

in Britian we have the NHS which is like canada's health service, which is funded by taxpayers money, so i'm just wondering how much are you spend on it.
--------------------
Too much for too little. My parent spend over $500 a month for the 2 of them, but the insurance won't cover prexisting conditions, my mother's heart condition, depression, bad back or fibromylgia. They have a co-pay for every doctor's visit of $20, the insurance only pays 40% on medicine and the list goes on. Even worse, my sister pays almost $600 a month for her and 2 kids and it won't cover sick visits to the doctor and she has a $20copay for visits and medicine. My father went to the emergency room because of severe pain, turned out to be a kidney stone. The insurance only covered half the hospital visit and nothing for the ambulance or tests. Our healthcare system sucks!

if obama wins, does a self employed businessman have to provide health insurance?

i own a small restaurant, the gross sales is around $300,000. per year, after my cpa goes through my tax return, i end up with about 100,000 in net sales. will i have to provide health insurance to my workers under the obama plan?
--------------------
in net profit before taxes? net sales means gross sales minus returns from bad food or similar YOU should be providing this heath insurance now regardless; it is tax deductible; now you are netting x with the insurance you will show a smaller net. Isn't that good for tax purposes?

Can I make an appt with a dermatologist without having any health insurance?

I think I need to have a rather large mole on my neck sent for a biopsy and I do not have any insurance. I have a referal from my primary but I have heard that not only is it difficult to get an appt with a non-emergency request, but alos that a lot of doctors simply won't see someone without any insurance.
--------------------
Hi. If you have no insurance, most doctors will request that you pay for your visit when you go there. Dermatologists are very expensive. When i went recently, the visit alone was $200.00 ( not including what she did ). I had to pay the whole amount due before i left ( i have no health insurance ). Biopsies are very costly also. Yes, it is very hard to get appointments also. I had somewhat of an emergency, and had to wait 2 months. Welcome to the wonderful world of health care. I've never had a doctor turn me down for not having insurance, i just have to pay for it when i go ( which can be difficult sometimes ). Best of luck to you :-)

How much is fair for employee health insurance contribution?

My company used-to pay 100% of employee and family health premium. Now, they're asking the employees to contribute, $125/mo for employee, $400/mo for employee+family. They're giving a 1 month notice. Is this fair? Thanks!
--------------------
That's totally fair - in fact, dirt cheap! (My insurance is $400 a month just for ME. Many family plans are in the neighborhood of twice that.) Most companies do ask for employee contribution - some have the employee pay it all. In today's world, it's VERY rare to not have employees contribute something.

Why is it considered fascist or socialistic if we want everyone to have health insurance?

We live in a democratic free society. There is no reason that the richest producing nation should not provide health protection for the citizens that keep this country moving. I don't see this as a socialistic issue. I see this as was covered in our Constitution that the citizens of this great country should have equal opportunity to achieve their goals and should be protected by the government.
--------------------
Health care - Protection ? The US government was created to protect the country and free commerce. Not to provide all to its citizens. But for its citizens to be able to provide all for them selves. How far we have drifted from the original intent of this country !

If you are an adult WITHOUT health insurance, why don't you have it? What do you choose to spend your money on

It is a proven fact that the overwhelming majority of uninsured ADULTS are uninsured BY CHOICE. They CHOOSE not to get health insurance. For example, they CHOOSE to quit school at 15 and end up working in a low-paying, no-chance-for-advancement job. A boy or a girl might CHOOSE to have sex at 16 and get pregnant/impregnate someone. Others choose to have a TV in every room, 3 cars, smoke 2 packs a day, and drink a 6-pack at night, then complain they don't have any money to buy health insurance. What CHOICE have you made NOT to have health insurance?
--------------------
proven fact? really? to what study are you referring? you are an ignorant fool. there are plenty of people that graduated school, but couldn't afford college (or just not smart enough to go). they might work at a decent job for years and suddenly get laid off. COBRA coverage is crap if you don't have the $700/month to pay for it since you just got laid off. i'm not sure where you live; the economy overall in the US is pretty good. however, here in the Ohio Valley, we are in a serious recession due to losses in the steel and coal mining industries. i had to move back here to help out my family (yes, i realize it was a choice, but could i live with myself if i abandoned my family just to have heatlh insurance?). but there are no decent jobs here for someone in my field. so i am working 38 hours a week with no benefits because it is the best paying job i can find here. i could find a FT job at mcdonalds i suppose, but there is no way to survive on minimum wage and still contribute $50-$100 bucks a month toward insurance. i barely make enough to live on. i don't have 3 TVs or an iPod. i am typing this on a friend's computer. i drive a POS car that barely makes it to work. i don't drink, smoke, or do drugs. other than prostitution or drug dealing, where do i come up with hundreds of dollars a month for health insurance? sure people make a lot of choices that result in the inability to pay for health care. but you really are jackass if you can't understand how people can be kicked down by circumstances and find it hard to get back up.

What are my options for affordable health insurance in Massachusetts?

I graduated with my Masters in Library Sciences in May, and am only covered under my mom's health ins. until February. I am trying to avoid a lapse in coverage. Please help!
--------------------
You sound worried. No need. Watch this video.
Source

How long do you have to be at a job before you can leave and get COBRA continuation on your health insurance?

I am miserable at work, but I would like to be able to keep the insurance, even though I'll be paying more for it. I've had insurance coverage from the very first day, if that makes a difference.
--------------------
There's no minimum time limit. As long as your employer is subject to Cobra, and you had coverage in force the last day you worked, you can elect Cobra coverage. I'm glad you're aware that you'll be paying more for it - the average Cobra cost for an individual, is $350 a month.

How come dental insurance isn't like health insurance?

If you have a broken arm you get surgery and get it fixed You pay a certain amount and there is no limit How come if you have a broken mouth...You only get a small portion with dental insurance. If dental / oral health can ruin overall health..shouldn't dental health be like going to the doctors and getting what needs to be done ...done...regardless of ability to pay but allow the dentist to make full profit like a doctor in a hospital?
--------------------
People pay a fraction of the cost of health insurance for their dental insurance. You can't expect the same benefits without paying as much. People also need a lot more dental work than they will ever have broken arms.

Can I purchase my own health insurance instead of using what is provided by my husband's employer?

I ask this because what if I found another insurance company that I like better than the one provided?
--------------------
Absolutely, you can. Just be sure you know what you're getting, coverage wise, and exactly what the costs are. Rarely do you get a "better deal" on an individual policy.

Is this why health insurance is so expensive?

Does this not piss you off? If the health insurance companies would quit lobbying and quit giving money to Congress, they could save us some money. In turn there wouldn't be an outcry from the left about a government option. http://www.opensecrets.org/news/2009/06/… Notice how much contributions have increased in recent years, then go look at how much premiums have gone up recently. To those saying the government is there to fix our problems, they're PART OF THE PROBLEM.
--------------------
That's money well spent to protect the hundreds of billions in profits those companies make ripping the public off. Yes, the government is part of the problem, but not government administration, but rather the law-makers. This is what happens when you have idiocy rulings from the Supreme Court like "corporations are actual people" and "money is speech." Make all elections 100% publicly funded, and don't allow corporations to meddle in the politics of human beings, and you'd see government, once again, by the people and for the people.

Can't we make a compromise between all out socialized healthcare and private health insurance?

Can't we do something like give insurance companies tax breaks for covering x amount of people who earn low wages at a sharply reduced price? Or have a smaller government program only for those who cannot afford insurance?
--------------------
I think it's very possible to have a hybrid or versatile system. The gov. is not planning to take away people's options for private insurance and make everyone use the "socialized healthcare" providers. Those are scare tactics from those who don't want health care to be affordable and available to all. We could be smart and find ways to let the gov. negotiate for lower prices to help the uninsured, but guess who doesn't want lower prices for medicine? We could also say, hey if you get free care, you can't file lawsuits for everythng, but guess who's against that?

Isn't employer provided health insurance a form of income? Why is it not taxed as income?

Your employer provided heath insurance is compensation for you working there. Why isn't it taxed like regular income? Just because you don't get it in the form of a paycheck it doesn't mean its not compensation.
--------------------
Because tax law is not always about generating revenue for the government. In many cases (such as this one) it is intended to encourage something that is seen as beneficial to society. Since our society - in general - regards a person's having health insurance as a 'good thing' we provid a tax benefit to encourage people to have it. In effect - by keeping health insurance tax free, more people will have it.

If I think I may have a disease and want to get health insurance?

If i get insurance and then go in right away will they be able to void the policy? If so how long would i have to wait?
--------------------
All insurance companies will view this as a pre-existing condition. They consider pre-existing conditions as a condition that you've received medical treatment, consultation, or advice, or that a "prudent person" would seek medical treatment, consultation, or advice. The fact that you're asking this question means you are a prudent person and so the policy would be rescinded. Many pre-existing conditions can be covered after 6 - 12 months if you disclose the condition, depending on your state. However, many questions they ask on the application go back 5 to 10 years. You may get answers here concerning discount cards. Be very wary of medical discount cards. They are not regulated by the Department of Insurance nor do the people that sell them need to be licensed nor insured. This means you have little recourse when you have problems with the plan. If you are tempted by the low price and claims of "save up to 80%" be aware that very few doctors actually take these cards. It does you little good if you have to drive 4 hours to find a doctor that will accept the card. Montana couldn't find any doctors in the whole state that actually took the card and only one dentist who was on probation for unlawful activities so they banned the sale of the card and fined the company. See this link http://www.insurancejournal.com/news/wes… for more information. Many other states are starting to ban these cards as well. Before signing up with any discount plan get a list of doctors. If they won't give you a list consider it to be a scam. Call the doctors on the list to make sure they're still taking the card (many don't even know that they're listed as a provider) and that they're accepting new patients.

I thought people without insurance are dying on the streets in America every minute like the liberals say.
