I am about to have knee surgery what would be the best health insurance for a young single female?

I have no health insurance right now and haven't in the past. Any insurance would be good that covers my knee surgery as well as doctor visits. I don't even know where to start looking!

What does the UHC plan do for me, subject me to buy health insurance, is that supposed to be an entitlement?

If I buy health ins right now am I part of the UHC goal, seems weird to make a big fuss if the plan is for me to buy health insurance. Hillary's plan is better, I know I've heard that.
--------------------
If you are talking about Clinton's plan, nothing changes for people that already have insurance. The idea is for people who don't have insurance that can't afford it to get help to pay for it. And if they can afford it, to be mandated to do that instead of sticking all of us with their medical bills. If the people who are uninsured now start paying health premiums, it should actually reduce the cost for everyone else that is currently subsidizing them.

If you pay for a plane ticket with your mastercard, do you automatically get health insurance?

I have heard that if you use a c/card to pay for air travel, insurance (health?) is included. Is this true?
--------------------
Sorry to burst your bubble, but "health" insurance is not included! Some credit cards have "life" insurance included when you buy an airline ticket - but it varies widely by credit card company, and usually starts at the gold or platinum card levels. I strongly suggest that you check with your credit card customer service department. Generally that number can be found on the back of your card. I hope this information is helpful.

Do you think people who pay for health insurance should still be made to contribute to the NHS?

Just wondering your thoughts really. A few friends where "debating" about this the other day and some said those who pay for there health insurance and get treated privately shouldn't be forced to contribute towards the NHS through there taxes etc. Also can you explain your reason why you think they should or shouldn't?
--------------------
Yes, people who pay for Health Insurance should still be made to contribute to the NHS because none of the Private Health Insurances is completely independent. All these private insurance plans are not able to survive without the NHS infrastructure. The patients who have private health insurance are usually well healed. They reached that status of the backs of ordinary tax payers and NHS contributors, they are part and parcel of our society.

What is the deal with Bush and health insurance?

I heard somewhere that his plan would mean that most or all companies would stop offering health insurance to their employees. Is this true? How can this be a good thing? If not true what is the actual plan?
--------------------
He doesnt want the big companies having to pay any for health insurance for their employees. Typical Republican

What if there are no more health insurance companies left?

The new health care law states each citizen mast carry health insurance or pay a fine...but what about if let's say 10 years down the road health insurance companies decide it's no longer profitable to stay in business and there are no more health insurance companies left??? Then what are we supposed to do?!
--------------------
Then the government will have to start selling it - i.e.the public option - because it would be only fair if we are indeed required to have health insurance.

Can I file a lawsuit against my employer who seems to discriminate on health insurance?

I work at a hospital. The health insurance they carry is United. The new benefits just opened and said they are now accepting "Domestic Parnters" to be on the insurance. The catch-only homosexual domestic partners, not heterosexual. United offers domestic partners at another hospital and allows both hetero and homosexual. So is the one hospital discriminating? Would this be a case for a law suit? Or can employers discriminate who they want on their insurance? Any good lawyers out here with advice?
--------------------
Uh ... insurance companies offer different policies and different levels of coverage. Blue Cross in my area has about 17 different plans to choose from. It's up to the employer to decide which (if any) plan they want to offer and they certainly aren't under any obligation to pick the most expensive plan with the widest eligibility net. How is it "discrimination" if a DIFFERENT hospital selected a DIFFERENT tier plan of United? If what other people are getting really bothers you and you don't like the benefit selection at your current job ... go get a job at the other hospital.

Where can I take a sick friend who has no health insurance?

I am concerned about a friend of mine. I think he's suffering from malnourishment. He has no appetite, sleeps sporadically, and he has developed verbal ticks. He's 6'2" and 120lbs. He does not live in a supportive home environment. He has no health insurance and no means to pay for treatment. I also think that he has a mental illness that has never been professionally diagnosed. Where can I take him?

Is there a way to make yourself and your husband a company so that you can obtain group health insurance?

I clean and maintain investment properties as a job and sometimes my husband helps me with repairs, etc. Can we form a company and get health insurance at group rates? How do you do that? Thanks for any help!
--------------------
It's actually in your best interest not to pursue a group policy because they tend to actually cost more than that of a individual policy. The way that a group policy would be more effective is in a situation where someone has some pre-existing condition that prevents them from obtaining an individual policy. Have you spoken with a local agent on what options you have available? A good agent will be able to go over your situation and find options to help get you the best coverage for your needs and hopefully within a decent price range that you can afford. I know I couldn't afford the rates I was being given when I initially looked into a policy as I am self-employed also, so I decided to risk it and go without and hope that I continued to stay out of the doctors office and have no accidents. I also found Ameriplan just over 2 years ago which helped ease the burden a great deal and got me some really great savings, as well as a bit of relief in that if I ended up in the hospital I would at least not be completely financially shot. You can take a look at the plans at http://www.mybenefitsplus.com/cberney It may or may not be something that will work with your situation but it doesn't hurt to look. And it can also be used along with traditional insurance should you find what works for you. Many people who are relatively healthy and don't expect much in terms of doctors visits, etc. can opt for a high deductible or catastrophic coverage type plan which will keep their monthly fees lower and yet still be in place should something major happen. This is when you can use the Ameriplan savings to cut your out of pocket expenses throughout the year for any check-ups needed beings that you won't be getting any help from insurance until you meet the deductible which can be $5000 or more even. I hope this will be able to help you out a bit more and that you find something that will work just right for you & your husband. Good Luck!

Health Insurance with a pre existing condition?

I have a port wine stain or birthmark that is very large, and which is considered " a pre existing condition " Does this mean I can never have health insurance? Im having procedures down to slowly remove it, and the procedures are partly cosmetic but also medical. Any other information would be healthful... I heard that Hippa created a program for it?

Which insurance school prepares students best for Life and Health exam?

I live in the Houston area. I am ready to obtain my life and health insurance license. I would prefer to be taught by some who is in the business or who has retired from the insurance business. I also want some one who is familiar with the content and questions on the test. Can anyone recommend a school that is thorough and dedicated to helping students pass the exam and get licensed?

Is health insurance mess the Government's way of handling Social Security deficits?

If less people have access to good, affordable health care, they will die sooner and not need social security as they age. The way health insurance is currently structured guarantees that, as time goes on, fewer of us will be able to afford it, and therefore, go without. How can we fix this mess?
--------------------
That is a very cynical way of looking at things! As for the way to solve it, my view is a national health system would be best, but one allowing people to still have private health care if they so choose. I live in the UK and work in the NHS (our universal health care system). It has problems, but not as many as the US healthcare system has. Despite spending much more per head of population than other developed countries, the US has worse health outcomes. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Health_care… Life expectancy and infant mortality figures in the US are worse than in other developed countries, despite more money being spent (and wasted) in the USA. In the UK there are waiting lists for routine problems. Problems that can not wait are treated as emergencies. Also, in the UK, people can also have private health care. I can understand Americans being proud of living in the richest and most powerful country in the world. What I can not understand is why Amercians settle for an expensive healthcare system where babies die that would have a better chance of life if born in another developed country. http://www.guardian.co.uk/usa/story/0,,2…

Will I lose my health insurance if I do not work enough hours at my job?

When I signed up for my health insurance I remember reading that I needed to work 30 hrs a week to maintain it. Last week I only worked 29 hrs. Will I completely lose my insurance in one week or does it have to be a pattern? If I work more than 30 hrs the next week will it resume or will I have to re-enroll in the coverage? Thanks.
--------------------
You need to ask your benefits admistrator about that.... I believe most places base eligibility on a quarter. If you don't have enough hours in a quarter.... then it may become an issue. However, ask your hr rep or benefits admistrator to be sure.

Is there any way that I can finance a breast reduction with no health insurance and little credit?

I am about 4'9 with 36d breast. I am very active and there is alot i like to do but with breast this size i have constant back pains. I dont have much credit for a loan nor do i know someone who will cosign.I also dont have any health insurance and i need this surgery asap. Does anyone have any suggestions?
--------------------
Borrow a down payment from family - then discuss with your doctor a payment plan. Or if your personal physician is not the one doing the surgery - see if they know a surgeon who will take a down payment, and then the rest in installments.

What are the downsides of buying health insurance online instead of through a broker?

Based on your experience, what are the advantages/disadvantages of buying a health insurance plan online vs. offline? Does anyone have any recommendations on good sites to buy from and which sites I should avoid?
--------------------
Play them against each other. A good broker won't mind a little friendly competition and will give you a better understanding and more importantly, a better result. Everybody who answers this question has their own biases (me too), but its about you not us.

Can you get health insurance right after you break your wrist and have them cover you?

How would the health insurance companies know that your in perfectly good health if you sign up online? What if somebody signed up for health insurance right after they got hurt??
--------------------
The reason for health insurance is NOT to cover your injuries unless forced to. That's what they do. Health insurance is not there for your health. Believe me, when you file a claim, they are all over you. They know people do this. They will do ANYTHING not to pay a claim. Our system really stinks! Young people like you have to gamble that they won't break anything; sometimes they lose. Health insurance is a bogus way to handle health care.

If health insurance is a right then why can't the government let me provide my own?

Why do democrats want to restrict my rights by forcing me to buy health insurance from insurance companies? Shouldn't I be able to save my own money and pay all my medical bills out of my pocket as I have done for the past ten years?
--------------------
You can still do that but, you will be expected to pay for everyone who makes a different choice too. Welcome to the Soviet Socialist Republic of America.

Is it illegal if you don't inform a medical care provider of health insurance?

Let's say you have health insurance, however, your insurance is so awful that's it's nearly impossible to find the needed doctors. Can you go to a free clinic and use a sliding fee scale? Is it illegal not to tell the doctor of your health insurance coverage?
--------------------
I'm not sure if it's illegal, but it's not right. If they do ask specifically about insurance and you lie, then that may be something that breaks a law. If they don't ask, perhaps you haven't technically broken the law. If you have a bad policy, you still have a policy and the provider MIGHT be able to get some kind of reimbursement from them. Otherwise, you're limiting what they can potentially obtain for services and that means their budget doesn't stretch that much farther. When my father has used the VA, they know he is on Medicare, so they bill Medicare for some of their services. As is, the VA is given $x and it's not nearly enough to treat all those who served, so they have to RATION care and they have to try to recoup expenses when they can. Any clinic you'd be seeing with a sliding-fee scale is in the same boat.

What will happen if a man is ordered by the court to by health insurance by the court for his child and does n?

What will happen if a man is ordered by the court to by health insurance by the court for his child and does not pay? But child support is deducted from his pay check.
--------------------
Then he has broken the order and they can either send him to jail, or deduct the premiums from his check. Unfortunately there is not a lot they can do to one who won't pay. Send him to jail where he can't make money to pay? Deduct it from his check and he goes underground. I'm thinking a public humiliation thing might just work on theses guys.

What's the best type of health insurance for the college student? Out of state?

My college's health insurance is more of a sickness/accident plan than anything else. (I had it this past eyar and it's pretty much worthless out of campus). Do you think there is anything I could find (with actual coverage) for the cost of that accident plan ($700/year). Also how does it work with living in one state and going to college in another one. Is there a type of insurance that could work in both? Any explanations of how health insurance works would also help greatly? Any experiences?
--------------------
Being that you are a college student, do your parents have a plan that you are eligible under? Besides that, you cant get much health insurance for $700/year these days. Even catastrophic care with huge deductibles are more then that.

What inefficiencies would arise from requiring all citizens to have the same comprehensive health insurance?

What inefficiencies would arise from requiring all citizens to have the same comprehensive health insurance from their workplace?
--------------------
One problem would be small employers would not be able to afford the expense and would either go out of business of hire people off the books. This would prevent small companies from getting off the ground and only the big companies would be in control. Once upon a time Wal-mart was a small business and stores like Sears and K-mart dominated the retail market. Now Wal-Mart is the big boy on the block and Americans get much better value for their money now.
