Why do Jewish-run companies refuse to provide health insurance for employees?

It is not a "bigoted" question, it is based on personal experience. When I was looking for a job, every time I went to a Jewish-run company, they always said that they do no offer any type of health insurance. So, why is it? Is it a religious thing? Or a stereotype (cheapness) that is actually true, in this case?
--------------------
Well, then don't apply for jobs at "Jewish-run" businesses. Did you know that UPS (United Parcel Service) DOES NOT have bennies for it's workforce that's part time?? And over 80% of UPS employees are NOT "full time".......And that's NOT a "Jewish-run" business, last time I looked at my stock dividend check......... When I worked for the County of San Diego, I DIDN'T HAVE HEALTH INSURANCE EITHER. City and State employees do here in CA, but NOT county employees..........go figure??? Christopher K. EDIT: And what about Tyson Foods Inc., that actually had to BUILD a temple for their Somali (political refugees) Muslim employees (they MUST pray 5 times a day), yet NO other "religious" group gets any "compensation" whatsoever. Where's THAT going???

No Health Insurance or Job but need surgery?

I recently went to the doctor and he believes I have gallbladder problems and will eventually need surgery. I lost my job and have no health insurance. What can I do?
--------------------
Apply for state or county aid. The state hospital system or local government agency should be able to lead you to the right office and the paperwork and eligibility requirements. I had to do this for surgery for a tumor, and an accident where I had a broken ankle that required surgery to put back together.

Did health insurance companies get bailout money?

i'm trying to do some research, and i couldn't find it anywhere... but does anyone know if the health insurance companies like Aetna, Assurant, Boston Mutual, etc. got any bailout money?
--------------------
They may not have directly, but it is important to remember how interdependent the insurance industry is. They may well have offloaded some of the risk to other companies which DID receive a bailout and hence indirectly benefit from the bailout package. You'd be hard pushed to find this kind of information available publicly as it is commercially sensitive. Personally (and it's just my own, but informed, opinion) I'd say there wasn't an insurance company anywhere in the world that didn't 'benefit' to least some degree from the bailout of AIG. I use the word 'benefit' advisedly since they didn't gain anything, they just didn't 'lose' as they would have if AIG had failed.

What agency or person can I get help with my health insurance in Florida?

I have recently moved to FL and I need to get some new health insurance, since I am now self-employed. I see a ton of agencies, and websites but I'm not sure where to go. I have heard some horror stories from acquaintances so I am a bit apprehensive. Or should I just go to a company directly?
--------------------
You can go to a company directly if you feel comfortable that you know enough about health insurance. However i would not recommend that. I went to an independent agent and i liked it very much, because they provided me with quotes from most of the companies that i was already looking at. I got lucky and found an agent who treated me great. They did'nt charge me for the quotes or the advice, apparently most independent agents don't. You can check out the one i went to at http://www.floridashealthinsurance.com If you decide to go to them, i hope you get the same service i did.

Young Americans should negotiate more pay, rather than health insurance?

Go for the pay, people. Why be a slave for the Insurance Companies!??!? Walk into your bosses office tomorrow, and ask for a $1.50 per hour raise, and give up your health insurance!
--------------------
If only it were that simple, but as long as health insurance are involved in making medical decisions, the U.S. will never have a fair system. Most Americans, who declare bankruptcy, do so due to excessive medical costs. Those who have coverage are faced with sky-rocketing premiums and exorbitant drug prices. People with medical insurance will continue to pay higher premiums because of the 50 million uninsured, who do not typically seek care until they're forced to an emergency room and/or prolonged hospital stay. http://voices.washingtonpost.com/health-…

which health insurance company I should buy from?

I dont have insurance right now but I'm thinking of getting one that covers dental, vision and health. Which insurance company is good that covers all those areas
--------------------
A lot will depend on where you live and what type of health issues you may have because not all companies are available (or have good rates) in every area of the country and also every company handles health issues a little differently. Your best move is to stick with large and trustworthy companies that offer full major medical plans (stay away from limited benefit plans and discount plans). Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Humana, United Healthcare, Assurant, and Celtic are all good companies. Work with an independent agent that can help you compare quotes from many different companies. Here is some more information on finding the best health insurance company:

What percentage of Americans currently lack health insurance?

So this bill has no public option, no cheaper drugs, a mandate to buy private insurance and according to the Congressional Budget Office will help cover 94% of Americans. So how many people are currently uninsured?? Do you think covering an extra few percentage of people is worth spending $850 billion?? http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_health_car…
--------------------
No one knows for sure. Originally the President said it was 47 million and then last week changed it to 30 million. Some say the 17million is illegal ones, others say it's kids, but that is not right as the kids up to 18 are covered by Chips. Also CHips covers illegal immigrants kids, so not that either. So not sure how they get the number. Others state that it is 11 million. One thing for sure in 2003 the medicare prescription drug deal was to cost $500 billion* over ten years, but whoops it was revised by the CBO right after it wa signed up to over a trillion and now it's like $2.3 trillion. So this deal will be more like $4 trillion. Also the health care lobby has thrown HALF A BILLION* in 2008 at the House and Senate members and they will be taken care of. the drug program has cost people up to 50% more and now they flood the country with dubious 3rd world drugs. Talk about quality control. So it's a joke and now it may not start till 2015 which means if 75,000 perish each year without it, then that means 450,000 will perish. Too bad they got to hid so much and pay off the corporations, as they could have done an actual head count at health departments and come up with a deal to help them now and real cheap. Oh well. So look for medicare to be overloaded gain and the health people to get paid insurance to make a mint and the drug companies to sell the high price drugs all over. ONe thing they don't understand is this will drive the economy over the edge. Some know as Gold is heading to $1,200 and the market will crash and that's that. The answer above me is a great one, he has the documentation. take care.

If there was two Free hospitals in every state would we even need health insurance any more?

I have posted an idea to fund two free hospitals and one free clinic in every state. Hoping to make it so we no longer need health insurance. You can read this idea on my profile at (http://www.myspace.com/noamericanleftbehindact) but this idea will only work if everyone gets involved. Please let me know what you think.
--------------------
You will need the help of each governor and I don't think that they would approve of socialized medicine. Although it sounds good theoretically you will have problems with funding when the donations run out.

anyone else have cigna health insurance?

I have Cigna health insurance and was wondering what ultrasounds are covered? The website said one ultrasound plus any others that are medically necessary. I have already had one when I first came in to date the pregnancy and am scheduled for my 20 week ultrasound on the 17th, will this one also be covered? Do most insurance see either my first ultrasound or the 20 week as "medically necessary"?
--------------------
I have Cigna. Cigna has about 75 different plans. There's NO WAY anyone here could know which plan you have. You'll have to call the number and ask. Neither the 20 week, nor the first one (confirming a singleton pregnancy, no doubt) was medically necessary. Medical necessity means, something is going wrong, and they need to figure out what.

can i see a Psychiatrist without health insurance?

i was trying too see how much it cost too see a Psychiatrist for some depression/anxiety issues i have.i just moved too north carolina, and have been unable too find a job too get health insurance.i'am hoping i can get on some kind of meds if possible.i just dont even know where to start.
--------------------
Back in the 70's it was realized that it was cheaper to treat people before their probems got too big. Community Mental Health Centers were formed to ensure all could get mental health care they could afford. Find out where your local Community Mental Health Center is and you will be charged based on your ability to pay rather than the full fee. Think about some talk therapy, though. Meds don't work very well for situational depression/anxiety (meaning it's not a chemical imbalance, you have good reason to be anxious and depressed.)

Would you support having your taxes increase by $15 each year if it would provide health insurance?

For this question, I'm asking about providing health insurance for all Americans who either are legally into this country or people who are natural-born citizens into the USA. Would you support it? (I'm not including illegal people in this country because I'm assuming in Mexican citizens knew they wouldn't be able to have the insurance maybe some of them would stay in Mexico to begin with)
--------------------
Oh yes , who wouldnt? I know alot of people would not. but again being a so called free country in the United States, this country of ours, likes to help everybody else before starting here at home.

What is the best state or city in the United States to live in if you want health Insurance?

Is there a city in the US where virtually everyone is covered by health insurance? Does this exist. Please tell me everything that you can. Thank you. I will definitely give ten points to the best answer.
--------------------
I hate to break it to you, but the people of this nation have voted against everything on earth that could be even remotely good for the not rich for so long that we the people no longer matter at all. We have voted ourselves into nothing but cheap labor, to be used, abused, and left to die when we're used up. The only way for most people to avoid horrific poverty now and in the future would be to leave the country we love and beg Canadians, Europeans, or Japanese to have mercy on us.....elections have consequences.

How does health insurance work?

I just started a new job, which offers health insurance. The specifics of the plan are incomprehensible to me. What I do know is I went to a health clinic for STD testing, something I've done routinely for the last five years, once a year or when dating someone new, through my student health plan without significant cost. My plan apparently doesn't cover this sort of thing, so I owe $1176 for the visit. This is stunning. I need to understand my plan better so that I can make an educate decision if I should happen to find myself legitimately ill in the near future. The company's website offers nothing in the way of specific explanation, just the usual gibberish.
--------------------
How does health insurance work? Imagine you have a $100,000 heart surgery, which is a covered medical expense under your health insurance plan, and let's say this health insurance plan has a $1,000 annual deductible, 20% coinsurance after deductible, $2,000 out-of-pocket limit per year and $5 Million lifetime maximum. * Typically, a deductible is the amount of money you must pay each year before your health insurance plan starts to pay for covered medical expenses. So with a $100,000 heart surgery bill, you are responsible for paying the first $1,000. After this $1,000 deductible is met, the insurance company will pay a percentage of the bill in what is called the coinsurance. Typically, coinsurance is a cost-sharing requirement where you are responsible for paying a certain percentage and the insurance company will pay the remaining percentage of the covered medical expenses after your deductible is met. For a health insurance plan with 20% coinsurance, once the deductible is met, the insurance company will pay 80% of the covered expenses while you pay the remaining 20% until your out-of-pocket limit is reached for the year. Typically, the out-of-pocket limit is the maximum amount you will pay out of your own pocket for covered medical expenses in a given year. For a plan with a $2,000 out-of-pocket limit, you will pay a $1,000 deductible and $1,000 coinsurance while the insurance company covers the remaining $98,000 of the heart surgery bill. Even if you are hospitalized again in the same year, the insurance company will pay 100% of your covered expenses within the limit of the lifetime maximum. Typically, a lifetime maximum is the amount your insurance plan will pay for covered medical expenses in the course of your lifetime. Since the health insurance plan has a lifetime maximum of $5 million, and as you pay your deductible, coinsurance and out-of-pocket limit each year, the insurance company will pay for all remaining covered medical bills up to a maximum of $5,000,000 in your lifetime. Typically, a co-payment or co-pay is a specific flat fee you pay for each medical service, such as $30 for an office visit, after which the insurance company often pays the remainder of the covered medical charges. Let's say you are not feeling well and went to see your doctor who charges $200 for the office visit. If your insurance plan has an office visit co-payment of $30, then you will only be responsible for the $30 and the insurance company will cover the remaining $170.

Is it possible to get Kaiser HMO through REALTORS Core Health Insurance?

I live in So. Calif and am planning to be a real estate agent. I understand through the National Association of Realtors (NAR), you can get health insurance through them as an agent. I have Kaiser HMO right now and I'd like to continue with them. Is it possible to get Kaiser HMO through REALTORS Core Health Insurance?
--------------------
"Core Health Insurance" is a specific brand of insurance just as "Kaiser HMO" is a different brand name. The two are different and mutually exclusive. In other words, the way your question is asked would be similar to saying "Can I get a Honda Civic through a Ford Mustang?" So obviously this wording doesn't make sense. You might have meant to ask whether the REALTORS association has a selling agreement with Kaiser. The answer is no; and there would likely be no business reason for either the association, Kaiser or the members for doing so. The REALTOR association, like most other professional associations, focuses on member benefits that provide revenue to the association while making an attractive offering to the individual members. I stumbled onto this question because I am writing a "Core Health Insurance Revisited" article for the Freedom Benefits health insurance exchange following changes introduced during this period of health insurance reform. These other resources are available on the www.FreedomBenefits.net Web site.
