Health Insurance Question - What is the difference between in network and out of network?

On my health insurance plans I have an in network and out of network co-pays and deductables. I dont know or understand the difference. I have $500.00 in deductables for in network and $1,500 for out of network... Can someone please explain?
--------------------
Doctor and hospitals make contracts with individual insurance companies to cover the insured patients at a discounted rate from their list price. Gets patients for the docs and hospitals and reduces cost for the insurance companies. This is called a "network." If you go to a doc or hospital that does not have a contract with your insurance company, then you have gone "out of network" and it will cost you more. And, if a doc calls in someone to consult with you on your care, and that doc is not in your network, it will cost you more. And his fee may not even count toward your deductable. Lots of traps out there. Gotta be real careful!

What appears on health insurance for alcohol poisoning?

I am a 21 year old college student who was taken to the hospital for alcohol poisoning. I'm on my parents health insurance, what will appear on the bill/forms that they receive? Will they know I went to the hospital and if they do know will they know why?
--------------------
Specific diagnostic information is never available in EOBs (Explanation of Benefits, the document the insurance company sends to the insured). The EOB will have jargon such as "medical examination", "outpatient procedure", etc. No specific information as to the nature of what was performed at the hospital.

How do I get a clinician to argue for my health insurance to cover residential eating disorder treatment?

I have an eating disorder almost 7 years in the making. I am looking for residential treatment now, but my health insurance does not cover it. How do I get a clinician to argue for this, and is that even the proper way to go about it? Thanks for any help.

How and what Health Insurance should i get in the Philippines?

I live here in the US and married to a US citizen. I am thinking of moving back to the Philippines to go to school for 1 semester. And my husband want's to have a vacation. Can you tell me what kind of health insurance is available in the Philippines that i can get and will it also cover my husband even if he is a US citizen? Any help will be greatly appreciated. thanks.
--------------------
...while there are all sorts of short-term medical insurance available in the philippines, i think it would be better/cheaper if you inquire about getting a medical travel insurance here in the states. it covers all sorts of emergencies while you're anywhere outside the country. check with your agent. http://www.medexassist.com/ for medical insurance in the philippines - http://www.pacificprime.com/countries/ph…

Who authored the Health insurance reform bill that Obama signed into law?

The Health Insurance reform bill that was signed into law today. Who were the authors of that bill? Who were the sponsors?
--------------------
Apparently, the health insurance companies themselves had significant input. "Last summer, executives from those groups visited the White House and pledged to do their part to help pay for the health bill. By signing on to the effort early and agreeing to absorb some of the costs, they were able to help shape its final form. Only time will tell how smart that trade-off was, but a quick look at the bill passed by the House late Sunday shows it was far from their worst-case scenario: ?A government-run health care plan that would compete against private insurers? Never made it out of the Senate. ?Price controls on Medicare's prescription-drug program that would squeeze drug industry profits? Quietly dropped from consideration last fall. ?Cuts in payments to hospitals serving Medicare patients? Trimmed to modest levels and delayed until 2014." http://www.newsobserver.com/2010/03/23/4…

What will happen to Insurance Agents if we get Universal Health Care?

If any of the democrats get into office they seem determined to create universal healthcare system. What will happen to the 500,000+ people that work in the health insurance industry? Do all those people loose their job to governemnt order takers? Personally, I don't want the government handeling my healthcare. I am a registered democrat that plans to vote republican if the democrats keep on with this universal healthcare.
--------------------
I am going to answer your question the best way I know how. If we get universal health care the whole medical system will suffer. Not just insurance agents and companies. If there is a government controlled health care system. The profit incentive will be removed from health care. The doctors and specialist that now go to medical school for 12+ years of training in some cases will dry up. Why would you go to medical school and run up all that debt if you can't get rich in your profession?

What's a good health insurance for someone college?

I am a sophomore in college and have not had health or dental insurance since I was a little kid. I can't be on my mom's insurance cause the price will sky rocket. I have a part time job so I don't get health benefits at work. Is there some type of health insurance that has good coverage but also doesn't cost too much since I don't make too much?
--------------------
apply for medicaid, its a government funded healthcare program for low income ppl.

Is the congressional health insurance mandate unconstitutional? Can they tell us we have to buy spinach next?

The Obamacare bill has a mandate that we must buy health insurance. This is the 1st time in history that this has been done. Is this constitutional? If they get away with this, mandate will they tell us that we next have to buy spinach or brocolli on every time we go food shopping?
--------------------
The Libs seem too busy hating the opposition to type a logical answer. This mandate is the scariest piece of legislation I've ever heard of. Anyone who doesn't mind being criminalized for not owning health insurance is surely a slave to their master. This is wrong on so many levels. If you don't understand that there is something very wrong here, get help.

how much does it cost to see a gynecologist without health insurance?

I live around the Chicago suburbs, and I don't have health insurance at the moment. I just want to get the regular check-up and pap smear. Anyidea how much it would cost?
--------------------
If you aren't having any serious problems, you'll get perfectly adequate care at Planned Parenthood at a price that is appreciably less than most doctors can charge. When I was a young woman, I got all my gyn. care at Planned Parenthood. Now my needs are beyond their expertise, so I see a board-certified OB-Gyn., but I still donate to Planned Parenthood so young woman will still have access to affordable reproductive health care.

If I apply for health insurance and my application is accepted, do I have to continue with that particular com?

I applied for health insurance and waiting on a reply. If they accept my application do I have to continue with that company? What if I decide to go with someone different? Also does applying effect your credit score? And which company would you suggest for a college student that needs basic health, including dental and vision?
--------------------
No, you can cancel your coverage whenever you want. Applying doesn't affect your credit score. You can't get health, dental, and vision all on the same policy. Health is one policy, dental is another, and vision is a third.

What are some problems with mandatory health insurance?

In California, you are required by law to insure your car...so what would be some problems with similarly requiring that parents provide health insurance for their children? This pertains to minors only...what if parents were required to insure their minors?
--------------------
With regards to minors - EVERY STATE has a Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) which offers free or substantially reduced cost insurance FOR CHILDREN. It is much more lenient than medicaid. Most states offer this coverage FOR FREE to 'special needs' children REGARDLESS of the income of the parents - although the income of the CHILD still counts. Most CHIP programs have no deductibles or copays. They will pick up deds or copays on a secondary basis if you have primary coverage, and a special needs child. The BIGGEST problem with mandatory health insurance in states like CA and TX, is you have a fairly large population of US citizen kids, born to illegal parents. And THOSE parents are going to try to 'stay under the radar' by not participating.

I'm living in Japan, looking for private health insurance. Can anyone recommend a good *affordable company?

I'm an expat, planning on spending most of my life here in Japan. The national health insurance is good but a bit expensive. So if anyone knows a good expat health insurance company that is somewhat comprehensive, please send the information my way. I only have to cover myself and I have my own business.
--------------------
If you live in Japan, it's a MUST to join National Health Insurance, or health insurance of your employer. And there is nothing which can replace NHI. There are some insurances. But they are only supplement of NHI.

Why do supporters of a health care mandate try to compare it to auto insurance mandates?

Auto Insurance Mandates: 1. Require you to buy car insurance only if you choose to drive a car. Only as a condition of driving. 2. You are only required to buy insurance to protect the person you hit, not yourself. Health insurance mandates: Require you to buy health insurance as a condition of what? As a condition of being a U.S. resident. You are forced against your will to purchase something with your own money for your own benefit.

How much do you pay for health insurance?

I have BCBS of Michigan. I pay $135.00 PER WK. Is this out of the ordinary? This covers me and my daughter.I am divorced and have to carry health insurance on my daughter. I only make $18.00 an hr. Is this right?
--------------------
That's a reasonable rate from BCBS. My compan's group insurance costs about $350 per employee and $700 for Employee & Child. You can take higher deductibles to lower your weekly cost, but the stuff just costs a lot.

How would most people's health insurance deal with an outbreak of pneumonic plague?

There has been an outbreak of northwestern China and two people have died. This type of plague needs to be treated with 24 hours with antibiotics, or death is virtually certain. Would health insurance and the system of waiting a week for a doctor's appointment allow people infected to get that antibiotic in time?
--------------------
They would have to go to an ER, not a private doctor, unless they were sure they could get in, and probably if it broke out here, (unlikely) they would have to be sure ER's, clinics and hospitals were set up for an outbreak. I don't know about insurance, I'm sure if insurance covered prescriptions, antibiotics that would be taken would be covered. The fact is, there is always some plague somewhere. If this had happened in China even 20 years ago we probably would never have heard about it. It is unfortunate than anybody in China has it and that anybody has died but I don't think we're looking at the middle ages all over again.

What can a type-1 diabetic do for short term health insurance?

My girlfriend, a type-1 diabetic, was at a miserable job for 3 months waiting to begin health insurance. After putting up with it for that long, she had to quit. Now, most other jobs she has been interviewing at require a 3 month wait until health coverage starts. What can we do to get her health insurance in-between jobs, even though she has a "pre-existing condition"? I am worried about something happening to her in the meantime and we need to get her insured. Short of getting married and adding her to my plan, are there any viable alternatives? Thanks.

HIPPA doesnt allow diabetes to be considered pre-existing

What do I do if my health insurance company refuse to cover pre-existing conditions?

I need oral and maxillofacial surgery, but my health insurance company from work (Cigna) is denying coverage by stating that it's preexisting. I need an expert advice. Thank a lot
--------------------
You can move to another country where denies for this reason are not allowed. Or you can wait until the law changes (in 2014?). Or you can pay for the surgery yourself (and not use insurance). Sometimes an oral surgeon can bill your dental insurance instead of your health insurance.

Should health insurance companies have the right to turn you down?

How can anyone be comfortable with insurance companies having the right to turn you down at a time when they are needed the most. How would you feel if you, your spouse or child were turned down because of a preexisting condition? How do you feel about insurance companies priorities, number one looking for ways to turn you down as appose to looking for ways to helping you. How do you feel that the almighty dollar is their main priority and not you health.
--------------------
Should AUTO insurance companies have the right to turn you down? If you have no licence because you have six dui's and you've totalled 12 cars, should an auto insurance company be REQUIRED to take you? Should an auto insurance company be required to take you and pay a claim for the accident you had YESTERDAY? What you "need", in these situations, is for someone ELSE to pay for your medical care, because YOU didn't buy coverage before the bad thing happened. It's like the lottery. If you could buy a ticket, Sunday, for Saturday night's million dollar drawing, who in the WORLD would buy a ticket BEFORE the drawing? AND, if EVERYONE who bought a ticket, picked the million dollar numbers, exactly how much do you think that ticket would COST? See, your questions show me a few things: 1. You don't know how much insurance companies pay out in claims - it's about $.99 for every $1 in premium. 2. You don't realize, that in order to STAY in business, a business cannot sell it's product, for less than it costs them to make it. There's no ROOM to lower costs. 3. You don't realize, that the insurance industry is ALREADY the most highly regulated industry in the USA. Name me ONE BUSINESS, where the "almighty dollar" isn't a concern. And, PLEASE explain to me, why your HEALTH INSURANCE COMPANY has to be more concerned with your health, than YOU. MAN UP!! Take responsibility for your own life, and your own health!! At the very least, it will keep your premiums lower!! It is MIND BOGGLING to me, how no one here wants to be a grown up in the USA any more, we just all want to be whining teenagers, waiting for Big Brother to GIVE us more stuff! Where the heck do you think big brother GETS it from??
