if a disabled canadian marries an american with health insurance from his job, can the new spouse immediately?

have that health insurance too?
--------------------
It depends. Do you have any preexisting conditions that may prevent you from getting insurance? If you do, your American husband's insurance company might refuse to insure you. Or, if you fail to disclose any prior treatment (such as something as trivial as treatment for acne, yes it has happen), the insurance company might cancel your coverage before paying your medical provider for any treatments you have already received. Welcome to the good old USofA.

Is Health insurance a tax deductible?

I've been paying my mom's health insurance for the last couple of months. It costs about $450 a month. Can i deduct this amount wen i file my income tax refund?
--------------------
Probably not. You could deduct medical expenses such as health insurance if your mother is your dependent. If your mother is not your dependent, you could still deduct the health insurance if you provided over half of your mother's support, but she does not qualify to be your dependent because she had income subject to tax of $3,500 or more in 2008.

who will have an easier time paying higher wages and paying health insurance: big chains or small businesses?

Obama wants to raise the minimum wage to $10/hr and FORCE all businesses big OR small to pay for health insurance. Who can afford this more: big companies like Wal-Mart and McDonalds who use their size get economies of scale and reduce costs of materials, or the small mom and pops who have higher operating costs since they don't have the purchasing power and delivery systems that the big boys have?
--------------------
That alone won;t make enough of a difference. My husband makes more than that AND works a second part time job AND I am on SSDI. He HAS probably one of the best policies available and we still can;t afford to use it except in emergencies because of the co-pays and deductibles. **edit**Minimum wage going to $10/hr would only make what my husband already makes worthless and things even more difficult. Raising minimum wages only makes the cost of living go up as companies then have to charge more for their services in order to pay their employees.

How could i get health insurance when i only work part time......???

i work at albertsons....part time...they start everyone out there at part time...so i can't really get up to 40 hours a week now...and i don't know when i can work more hours...i really need health insurance....but i only get paid like around 6.50...so if anyone could help me...i would appreciate it...thanks
--------------------
OK, does that mean they don't OFFER group health, or you just can't afford it? Assuming you're under 30 and healthy, health insurance IS going to cost around $250 a month. That's just what it costs. If Albertsons doesn't offer you access to their group plan, you can get an individual plan from a local, independent agent. And NO ONE can live off of part time work, so you're going to have to get a second part time job.

do you think maternity care should be necessary care on private health insurance?

like if a woman is paying for her own health insurance, a necessary cesarean should be covered? Keep in mind that a pregnancy with complications could cost $30,000, and a cesarean costs about $15,000.
--------------------
Maternity should be a mandated benefit so long as you've had uninterrupted coverage and you've had your current plan for at least 10 months. Maternity should not be mandated for the person who isn't interested in getting health insurance until after they already need it. And, the health insurance companies should have some protection to keep the costs down for everyone.

do your parents need to claim me on their taxes if I'm on their health insurance?

I am a full time student and I am on my parents health insurance. I have my own job and when they claim me on their taxes it kills my tax return. They have Blue Cross and Blue Shield, so I'm not sure if its required by them but everyone that I have talked to that are on their parents health insurance are not claimed on their parents taxes. I was just wondering if this was something that was necessary for the insurance company.
--------------------
No they don't have to claim you on their taxes, but it helps them with their deductions while it will kill you final tax return amount. They can claim the health care premium as a deduction and any costs they pay for medical prescriptions or office visits you may have also. But they don't have to claim you as a dependant.

If someone makes just enough money to pay their bills without the extra burden of health insurance that they?

...don't need, then won't the new mandate to buy into subsidized health insurance hurt them and put them in the red? Will they have to become slaves to credit and have to borrow money in order to cover this extra expense that they could have avoided before and not be in debt? Would that make the banks and the HMOs happy?
--------------------
OF COURSE! Been preaching that for days......this HURTS struggling families.

why are people against health insurance reform?

why are some people against health insurance supported by the government? I don't see any reason for that... is there any websites that list the reasons?
--------------------
Health Insurance Reform is most definitely needed. All change in our health care at this point in time is being used as a vehicle by the obam administration to enable the government to take over a larger part of the economy of the United States. If they are successful you will see during the time obama is in office a dramatic change in your personal situation as it is related to the economy and also your everyday life. Inflation will be rampant and your ability to maintain your current lifestyle will be impossible. Print this answer out and put it away and come back and read it again in three years. I would like to have the opportunity to prove my prediction to you if you have any doubt. Save this answer.

Does ne'1 kno if cinergy health insurance cover sum1 who had a brain aneryserum 8months ago?

Is there any other health insurance that will cover this person n if so how much?
--------------------
Most insurance companies have waived their 'pre-existing condition' because of how often people change jobs. This person might qualify for state aid or if their doctor claims them disabled, they can get disability if they qualify, after a 12 month waiting period.

Can an employer require an employee to take their dependent on their taxes for health insurance coverage?

I need to get health insurance for my kids and their dad was awarded the tax write off for them
--------------------
Yes, they can have that requirement, if it is clearly spelled out in the dependent eligibility requirement on your benefit plan. (Look in your Summary Plan Document/Certificate of Coverage under the section labeled "Eligibility" to see whether that's the case.) I used to work on Dependent Eligibility Audits for large self-funded corporations, and can tell you that there are many major corporations that actually do have this requirement. I wouldn't say that its a "common" requirement for biological children, but its not at all unusual for stepchildren. I once had to remove dozens of step-children from an employer's benefit plan after an audit, because they weren't claimed as tax dependents. State insurance laws vary, so there may be some individual states that prohibit this. However, even if your specific state does not permit it, if your employer is self-funded they can do it anyhow. (Self-funded employer plans are not subject to most state-specific insurance laws.) Check your plan documents to confirm whether it is specifically spelled out in the eligibility requirement. If its not specifically stated, then your employer can't require it. (At least, not without modifying the terms of your policy at the next open enrollment.) P.S. Some employers will allow alternate documentation, if you have a divorce situation where you don't claim the kids every year. For example, documentation proving that the dependent resides in your home or a divorce decree showing the custodial/tax exemption arrangement. You can ask your employer whether there is anything else they will accept other than a tax document.

Does Canadian health insurance cover in the United States?

My little cousin is visiting from Toronto, Canada. He has Canada's universal health insurance ...he got sick while vacationing in the U.S, and went to the ER. Will his insurance cover this? Please explain how this works. Thank you!
--------------------
Canada doesn't HAVE "universal health insurance". It's not insurance. It's government run clinics, for legal residents. To use it, you have to go to one of the (Canadian) government run clinics. So no. He has no insurance to cover this. Sorry.

Will Hillary Clinton universal health care program force all Americans to pay for health insurance?

How will those who are unemployed pay for health insurance under her plan?
--------------------
Or self employed. Its really not Universal Health Care first off, its mandatory health insurance. I think theres a big between health care and health insurance. Yes she is trying to force all americans to buy health insurance, and she is happy to tell you that the insurance companies think this is a good idea (duh). Yes she will garnish your check if you dont participate - the insurance companies support that idea too i'd reckon. edit for scar: The poor are not exempt, thus the word universal- she makes a pretty big deal about not excluding anyone. She gives poor people tax credits to help pay for theirs, why is the income tax system tied to a social program? edit for justjenn: Obama's plan makes affordable insurance available to everyone- meaning you can optionally buy cheap insurance. It makes insurance for children mandatory.

I have a peptic ulcer and no health insurance. I was wondering if anyone knows what I can do to stop the pain.

I've had this pain for years and I currently do not have health insurance and can not go to the doctor. For the past three days I have been in a lot of pain. I've tried milk, bananas, Zantac 150, and Pepcid AC and that was all in one day... I had moments when the pain wasn't as bad but it was still there. If you have any ideas that would be great. Thanks!
--------------------
Hi Deztani Here are some ideas on how to heal the issue. Causes of Peptic Ulcer In addition to bacterial and viral infections, peptic ulcer can also be caused by poor diet, food allergies, nutritional deficiencies, alcohol, smoking, and chronic stress. As mentioned above, various commonly used medications can also cause problems, especially asprin. In addition to aspirin, other NSAIDs linked to peptic ulcers include Advil, Clinoril, Feldene, Ibuprofen, Nalfon, Nuprin, Orudis, Oruvail, Relafen, and Tolectin. In severe cases of ulcer, internal bleeding can occur due to thinning of the lining of the stomach and/or intestines. Quick Action Plan for Peptic Ulcer 1. Avoid all sugars, refined carbohydrates, sodas, milk and dairy products, processed foods, preservatives, artificial sweeteners (especially aspartame), corn syrup, alcohol, white bread and white flour products, pastries, and hydrogenated and trans-fatty oils, as well as all foods to which your are allergic. 2. Emphasize organic, fresh vegetables and non-citrus fruits, organic grains, as well as organic, free-range meats and poultry and wild-caught fish. 3. Drink plenty of pure, filtered water throughout the day. 4. Miso soup and strained vegetable broth, made from cooking down a variety of organic vegetables, are healing and easy to digest, making them especially valuable for any digestive problems. 5. To reduce symptoms, eat small meals throughout the day, rather than following the traditional three large meals per day routine. 6. Certain herbs have anti-inflammatory properties, which can help repair the lining of the stomach and intestines. The best herbs for this are Echinacea and goldenseal, aloe vera, cayenne pepper, chamomile, licorice root, and slippery elm. 7. Therapeutic juices include raw cabbage juice by itself, or mixed with either carrot or celery juice; raw potato juice; wheatgrass juice; carrot, spinach juice; carrot juice; carrot, beet cucumber. 8. Soothing baths two to five nights a week can help to relieve symptoms. 9. If you smoke, stop, and also avoid exposure to secondhand cigarette smoke. In addition, learn how to effectively cope with and manage stress. 10. If you are currently taking aspirin or other NSAIDs, consider replacing them with safer, more effective natural remedies. 11. Nutritional supplements include vitamin A, beta carotene, vitamin C, and zinc, taken with a multivitamin/multimineral formula. Essential fatty acids, especial omega-3 oils, are also recommended, as are bismuth and the amino acid L-glutamine. Linseed oil can also be effective. It can be added to salads or over drizzled lightly steamed vegetables. Herbal Medicine: Both Echinacea and goldenseal are useful for treating peptic ulcers because of their ability to improve immune function, as well as their anti-inflammatory properties, which can help repair the lining of the stomach and intestines. These herbs also have strong natural antibiotic properties, making them useful for dealing with bacterial infections that often cause peptic ulcer. Shiitake mushrooms can be helpful due to their antiviral properties, as can aloe vera, cayenne pepper, chamomile, licorice root, and slippery elm. Other useful herbs include calendula, linden flower, marshmallow, meadowsweet, and valerian. Soothing herbal infusions include one part chamomile and two parts marshmallow root, or one part chamomile and one part linden flower or valerian (take one teaspoon three times a day). Homeopathy: Useful homeopathic remedies include, Arsen alb., Acidum nit., Belladonna, Calendula, Hamamelis, Lachesis, Nux vomica, and Silicea. Best of health to you

When to get health insurance for your newborn?

I am in my first trimester and just wondering when do I need to get health insurance for my newborn-the health insurance is United Healthcare and offered through my job
--------------------
Exactly what Kenneba... (it didn't fill in her name!!) said, Your deductible will either be two now (which will account for the newborn care at the hospital and all vaccinations and other check-ups) or it will shoot up to a "family" deductible which maybe 1/2 added to the top of what your current deductible is. You don't need to call to add your baby now, just at some point within 30 days of birth but I would call now and find out how it changes your plan and your deductible and you will always want to know what they will cover for baby at the hospital (like if you are planning on a circumcision, most insurances no longer cover this) and any "uncommon" vaccinations given at the hospital. With my first child I had a family plan to start so it didn't change one bit when I added my baby (other then premium increase) but with my second child I got screwed hard, my deductible double and went from a $7500 to now 15k, and basically it covered NOTHING and left me with huge bills that I am still working on getting down, 4 years later! So call and find out for sure, and most of all GET IT IN WRITING! Their "word" means nothing. Whatever they tell you make sure they send it to you in a plan of some type. You may also want to think of getting 2nd insurance though private if you have very high deductible that may double, then you can add your baby to the new policy and be better covered incase your 1st insurance didn't pick up the way you hoped. (It would only be covering your newborn though and not you as pregnancy is pre-existing, but it would cover your newborn without you on the plan)

how quick can an employer terminate you health insurance once you are laid off?

how quick can an employer terminate you health insurance once you are laid off?
--------------------
It depends on how your plan was originally set up. It's either good through the last day you worked, or the last day of the month in which you worked. It's not up to the employer, except at the time the plan is originally set up.

Have you ever lived through a medical condition since you didn't have Health Insurance?

I have! My HMO kicked me out on January 1st, since I graduated from college last month, and it SUCKS! My right nostril is totally inflamed, and my sinuses aren't too great after a botched wisdom tooth surgery :( But I'll manage I guess :) Any health insurance-less horror stories from you?
--------------------
OMG yeah, I had a small patch of skin on my arm that just started eating away one day, it didn't hurt at all (and it didn't bleed or scab) but it behaved in every other way like an open sore, it got to be at least a half inch deep before it went away. That was scary though. I'm all for universal health care, we should have AT LEAST universal health care as a modern civilized nation For now take some Tylenol and some Sudafed and you should be alright, at least it will alleviate the pain. Ask friends and family if they have any antibiotics they can lend you if the condition gets worse

If you exclude yourself from health insurance, does that mean you exclude yourself from health care?

I think that's an important distinction. Without an insurance mandate there are many people who chose not to carry insurance. But that doesn't mean they chose not to receive health care. True - some people without insurance could pay for their own health care. But most could not which leaves the tax payer to cover their bill.
--------------------
No, it just means they get gouged when they decide to see a doctor. "...hospitals all over the country charge their highest prices, by far, to those who can afford it least — the 46 million Americans who don't have health insurance... Hospitals charge uninsured patients two, three, four or more times what an insurance company would pay for the same treatment...."

how do health insurance brokers get paid?

I am doing research on health insurance and need to figure out how health insurance brokers get paid. If possible, I also need non-partisan sources on the health insurance broker industry.
--------------------
I've been a health insurance broker for about 20 years. Brokers in almost all US states get paid commissions that do not affect the cost of their clients' policies. This is due to state regulations. In another words, the policy costs the same whether the client buys from the broker or from the company. Commissions are usually a percentage of the monthly premium the client pays. I work with all the Connecticut non-group health insurance companies and the percentage ranges from 7% to 25%. One company pays a flat fee of $17 per month per contract. The companies that pay higher first year commissions ususally pay less in the second and subsequent years than they do in the first year. It is a good business, but it is a lot of work. You get a lot of technical questions so you have to know your stuff. Also there are no big commission cases at least not if you focus on individual sales like I do. However, every month or every quarter, you will cash slightly bigger checks. Eventually you wil have a good income if you work at it. If you are planning to come into the business, good luck (unless you are planning to compete with me in Connecticut - just kidding there are plenty of clients to go around). Study hard; work hard; work with integrity and you will gain many new clients and friends. If you want to find out more about me visit my website. See below:
