After how many hours per day/week are retail businesses required to pay health insurance for employees?

Need the answer for a story I'm writing - thanks in advance
--------------------
Businesses are not required to pay health insurance for employees. Some businesses offer the insurance but they are not required to.Company paid insurance is just an added benefit for employees and some companies pay the full amount while others require you to pay the full amount. I work in the medical field and even my employer requires us to pay the full premium which is a few hundred dollars every 2 weeks and i pay even more to add the family.

Is there a type of independant health insurance that is cheap, or semi cheap? And that is not a fraud?

I am a student and Im poor!
--------------------
As long as you are fairly healthy then it will be pretty easy to find an affordable independent health insurance plan. They key is to choose a well known and trusted company. Think Blue Cross Blue Shield, United Healthcare, Aetna, Humana, UniCare, etc. Watch out for discount plans and very limited benefit plans from companies like Mega Life and United American. Here is some more information on finding cheap individual health insurance and also some info on health insurance for students:

Gov't needs to mandate everyone to buy their own health insurance?

Everyone including the poor. I think everyone who buy health insurance, each should get a card... when they go buy stuff, everything will be cheaper. And those who don't have health insurance will have to buy things twice as much. Like for example... sodas, they will have to pay $3 for a can of coca cola. $10 for a pack of ciggarettes.
--------------------
Well if the administration gets their way a person who decides NOT to carry health insurance will pay a fine, from what I understand it will be 2.5% of that person's gross income.

Am I wrong, it just seems like hired guns are posting for the health insurance industry and their politicians?

I am drawing fierce attacks when I suggest we consider the advantages of national public healthcare system instead of private healthcare industry and their political puppets.
--------------------
Not sure if I've responded . . . but when you have insurance people (like in this category) that explain why it's a bad idea with FACTS, like, well, it doesn't WORK well, there are long lines, and it's extremely expensive - more than private care - AND, it still won't provide coverage for half the uninsured in America now (because they're ILLEGAL), it's not exactly a fierce attack. I can't think of ANY advantages of natiional public health care. *I* don't want the long waits for my turn, *I* don't want my income taxes to triple to pay for it, *I* prefer SOTA medical care, not stuff 5 years old because there isn't any money to pay for the latest machines. People who think national public health care is a good thing, aren't looking CLOSELY at how well it's working in countries that have it - or who is covered, or what they're covered for. They're just thinking, "oh, I get mine for free, who cares about the rest". But it's NOT the same care, and it's NOT free - the costs are just hidden. **I want to add something, about what Pickle said. Inherent in national public healthcare, is healthcare RATIONING - the government interference bit. Here are some real world examples, of the healthcare rationing in Europe: The elderly will get antibiotics, but there's no chemotherapy for anyone over 65. Or hip/knee replacement surgeries for people over 65, or any organ transplants for people over 65. You get pain meds while you're dying of cancer, though. Severely premature babies are left to die. These babies, cost on average $50,000 a day for every week prior to 32 weeks, when they are born early - government's answer is to just not treat them. Overweight people do not get gastric bypass, or other weight loss surgery - they get advice on how to lose weight. People with weight related conditions - like type 2 diabetes, don't get insulin - they get more advice on how to lose weight, and complications related to their weight, like heart issues, are not treated. The way they're going to stay solvent, is by letting the high utilization people - the elderly, the very young, and the very overweight - DIE. Is that the kind of program you're advocating?***

I have a job, so Obama will charge me or my employer for health insurance, how will they get money from others?

you know, those who work 'outside the law' on a cash basis, the ones who don't have an employer?
--------------------
You pay based on what you make. If you don't show the govern. your income then you get free healthcare.

Why should people that choose to not work have their health insurance paid by taxpayers?

After a patient's co-pay, how much does the average health insurance pay for a normal doctor visit?

is it about the same for all general check-ups? Specifficaly, how much do average health insurances pay when a patient goes in just to inquire about a drug that they have heard about?
--------------------
The average HMO doctor makes $27 a month from a patient. It's a flat fee, if the patient goes in 17 times, or not at all. The average PPO makes $23 for a short office visit, like a drug consult. $32 for a healthy adult physical, which takes more time.

Just lost my health insurance what do I do now?

So I'm a 21 yr old in college, I just got kicked off my parents plan because we can no longer prove that I am a Dependant. My main concerns are dental and birth control. I have two cracked caps on my molars because I grind my teeth, which I've put off because of school and work. And I need to get monthly birth control. Any advice on what steps I can take next? I'm in Santa Cruz county.
--------------------
Join the rest of us uninsured people. NOW you thoroughly understand why we need a national health care program. (Go Obama!) See if you qualify for COBRA. For dental, call your local (usually county) health department. They can usually either provide or recommend low-cost dental services. For birth control, I strongly suggest using the word "NO!".<<< If that isn't an option, check out your nearest branch of Planned Parenthood - they will help you with examinations, meds, etc. Unlike what those against Planned Parenthood will tell you, Planned Parenthood does a LOT regarding female health issues, and they do it on a sliding scale that depends on your income. Good luck (to us all).

Can you typically set up a payment plan with your health insurance company (for a very large bill)?

My deductible is quite high and unfortunately we've gone through it in one incident.
--------------------
You don't pay the deductible to your insurance company, they take it off the reimbursement. It's the provider you need to deal with, and most will accomodate a payment plan, especially if the bill is large. It's better than getting stiffed, and it shows your intentions are honorable. Call the doctor or hospital.

DID YOU KNOW THAT ALL HEALTH INSURANCE IS A FRAUD? Did you ever read the fine print?

Insurance only covers you if you or your employer pays for it. When you get so sick that you lose your job,the ins. stops as well ! All you're covered for, is just the original health problem. Don't come down with anything else ! You won't be covered ! Unless you are very wealthy, you'll have to go on Medi-Care or Soc. Sec. ! Then you can have only 1 car, 1 house, and no more than $2,000 in the bank ! If you go over the $ limit, you lose benifits ! So if you get cancer and live,...you will never be able to get ins. again.! Don't get sick or break a bone..you're not covered ! Does that sound fair? Everthing you have worked for and saved up,will be GONE ! It's a scam !
--------------------
Great question, and I agree with you completely! BTW Cobra is a joke...a very bad joke! *sm*

I do not have regular health Insurance?

I regularly go for activities like white water rafting. Is it possible to buy cover for injuries from such activities on per event basis?
--------------------
I am not aware of health insurance that covers injuries on a per event basis. You might want to look into getting an affordable health insurance plan, just in case something happens and you need to go to the hospital. There's a new company offering low cost individual health plans in Texas for young, reasonably healthy people. You buy into a plan at a super low cost with fixed benefits that will cover the typical activities and preventative care of a healthy person. Then, if something catastrophic happens, you have the option to get additional levels of coverage, even AFTER the event. A healthy 25-year-old male (and under) would pay under $100 a month for basic coverage. Check them out at http://www.precedent.com - Even if you're not in Texas, my understanding is that they'll be offering plans in additional states soon. I hope you find what you need!

what programs are available for people in virginia that need health insurance?

a 40 year old male in va has diabetis but no job needs a doctor and health insurance
--------------------
Well, there's always Medicaid, as you're "medically needy" you can try to qualify, based on your household income and assets. And Virginia has a "guaranteed issue" program, also, where you cannot be denied a policy - you probably need to talk to a VA agent to get in with that. Keep in mind, the PREMIUM isn't guaranteed, and you'll pay a hefty one, if you're a type 1 diabetic, OR a type 2. Virginia does NOT have a "high risk health pool".

Would socializing health insurance be more beneficial than socializing health care?

Health insurance would be what I call basic ins. Anything else like home owners or flood and earthquake would be left alone. If we socialize health ins. then health care can operate as a free market, right?
--------------------
Yep, that's the idea. Even the most liberal member of Congress doesn't want to socialize health care providers, just health insurance.

what is the real reason america doesnt have free health insurance?

Is it the cost drug companies dont want it? health insurance companies dont want it? It will lower quality medical for the rich? it will take away money from building bombs and guns?
--------------------
Ding ding ding....you got it with the your last answer.....so much money is being spent on "the war on terror" and other political crap that could be being spent on national health care. H. Clinton (and others) have some really good ideas on universal healthcare....you should check them out.

Can an employer cancel your health insurance due to lifestyle?

John Doe routinely participates in activities such as skydiving, rock climbing and bungee jumping. His employer told him to stop the activities or they would cancel his health insurance. John Doe's health insurance was cancelled after an article appeared in the paper highlighting his dangerous life style. What can he do? The real name will not be a part of this also he has worked for the company for 10 years is the top rep every quarter.
--------------------
If they pay for it, yes. If he pays for it - they would have no vested interest in doing such an action.

Where can I get private health insurance?

I need health insurance, like I know many people do. I have cancer, but I guess that's not considered a disabilty because I was turned down. My job does not pay for medical. I know several married couples where they have two different insurance policies through each of their employers, and they get to pick and choose which one to use. I don't have a spouse. I know several people who are alcoholics who have an HMO through their retirement and they are in the hospital every other month, simply because they have over drank. They run to the doctor every two months for very trivial things/ I know of several who abuse the veterans hospital from runny noses to a simple headache, plus they are paid monthly for a disabilty they don't have. They just don't want to work. I think married couples should only be able to use one insurance policy, and these others should be only allowed to go to the doctor a few times a year. If they are an alcoholic send them to AA.

We do *not* have health insurance, but need to go to a doctor. Where should we go?

Husband has a lump that is getting bigger and he needs a doctor to look at it and see what it is. We do *not* have health insurance, but he needs to go to a doctor. Where should we go in St. Louis, MO?
--------------------
There are still some adults on Medicaid in Missouri - regardless of their age. It's based on income and assets. If you are in St. Louis County or City you can apply for Connect Care or any of the following St. Louis County Health Departments who work on a sliding scale based upon your income: ST. LOUIS COUNTY HEALTH CENTERS John C Murphy ~ Berkeley 314-522-6410 North Central ~ Jennings Station Rd 314-679-7800 South County ~ S. Lindbergh 314-842-1300 Hope this helps -- In America NO one should have to go without medical care and yet there are many people out there just like you and just like my ex-husband who are not getting proper medical treatment even though they are hard working American citizens - it's wrong and something should be done! There are clinics (one in particular at St.John's Mercy) that actually treats illegal immigrants from Mexico BEFORE it treats American citizens. Is THIS what we wanted we we donated our money to Catholic Charities? Is it? I believe EVERYONE should have proper medical care but I truly believe those of us who are legal citizens should have priority - don't you?
