what is the reasoning for taxing health insurance?

is it a sin tax? or a luxury tax? doesn't every one die equally? what would taxing insurance prove or benefit?
--------------------
The government needs money to continue with it socialist plan and this is a benefit not taxed yet. It is a tax on the "wealthy" so it won't affect most of those that support Obama and his socialist agenda.

Why should health insurance companies be obligated to make profits?

Their obligations are to their shareholders and not their customers. Why are people so adamant on protecting this awful system?

i was wondering the same thing but on the other hand i dont want to pay for some illegal immigrant's health care and there 14 children either

Old and/or sick people are denied coverage for health insurance we need PUBLIC healthcare NOW am i right?

You shouldn't be able to ageist or sickist against people who are old or sick and just rake in mad cash from unsick people as a health insurance firm U SHOULD Be required to take in sick and old and you should be helping people as that is your business Also insurance companies shouldn't be allowed to deny certain precedures or doctors its time for government to get involved and squash these companies who were doing nothing but making money and trying to deny everything from everyone there time is over its OBAMA's time to come in
--------------------
You are correct. As long as for-profit providers reign over our health-care system with no competition, we will continue to see 18,000 people or more a year die from denial of treatment/coverage, the inhumane acts of rescission, and exorbitant premiums for less efficient care. These factors and other corporate structures present an imminent danger for our citizens and the economic stability of our country. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/30/opinio… http://www.pbs.org/moyers/journal/071020… http://www.pbs.org/moyers/journal/082820… http://www.prwatch.org/node/8467

So our real enemy is the health insurance industry right?

Kind of like the Fox guarding the chicken coop. Unchecked he will avoid those most in need and gorge himself on those who feed him best. Those with the fat to feed his crazy lifestyle. What is the enormous overhead that warrants such high premiums besides malpractice insurance. Isn't that for quack doctors that don't know what they are doing. Like Phd's that got their licences from third world countries and American "C" grade rich students that want to stay rich off the sick and dying.

How many people on Y/A work at jobs that do NOT supply health insurance?

If company's pass on their expense of advertising to customers, shouldn't they offer their employee's health care and pass that on to customers?
--------------------
Employers who provide health insurance DO pass their cost on to customers. So people who say they don't want to pay for other people's healthcare actually ARE paying for other people's healthcare through the higher cost of everything they buy. Even if you aren't insured, yourself, you are paying for other people's health insurance. Kind of makes a national healthcare system seem more rational, doesn't it. EDIT: The thumbs downs are funny. People don't like to hear the truth.

What is WRONG with the current standings of our health insurance companies?

The quality (and amount of people who actually care) of the United States healthcare system is comparable to that of third world countries. why? how has it gotten this bad?
--------------------
It is a for profit system. Corporations have repeatedly proved that they are not good stewards of the public interest. Did you notice that the AMA got tired of doctors being ranked by insurance companies so they turned the tables and started ranking health insurance companies. More interesting is that former Senate majority leader Bill Frist's company, United Health was ranked dead last by the AMA.

Can anyone recommend any good pet health insurance plans?

Can you share some experiences with your pets and how pet insurance helped with your pets? Serious Answers Only!!!
--------------------
I have VPI and I have been very pleased with them. It costs me $240 a year for both of my dogs. However, the have a very set procedure that you need to follow. Pet insurance does not work like people insurance, you still have to pay the full amount of the service at the vet and then you fax in a claim form to VPI and they directly reimburse you within a couple of weeks, So, you still need a credit card or some way to pay your vet. It is false that some vets don't accept, because the vet is never the person who processes the insurance. They will not cover any heriditary diseases (hip displacia, wobblers, etc) or preexisting conditions. So, to really get your $$ worth you need to start your coverage when your dog is a puppy and renew every year. Some breeds are much more expensive than others and they may not insure you if they choose. They have a couple different levels of coverage. I pay for only catastrophic injury or illness ($50 deductable), but my dogs are still pretty young and don't go to the vet a lot. If your dog does, they have a plan that is more per month, but covers regular visits, shots and such. You are required to get a yearly physical for your dog to be covered. I have only had one smallish claim ($250), but they were very prompt in sending me my check and I have no complaints with them.

My boss pays 50% of my health insurance and 100% of my coworker's. Is there a labor law against this?

I just feel it is very unfair. 1st of all, the man he pays 100% for is new and 2nd, he gets paid 3x as much as I do. My boss also pays for 50% of everyone else's insurance in the company. They supposedly had an agreement prior to hiring the new guy. I just feel its not right
--------------------
They can do whatever they want so long as it is not discriminatory. Or as long as it doesn't violate union contracts. The other guy may have more experience, different work requirements, was a better negotiator. You don't know what the reason is. Just because he is newer than you doesn't mean he should be paid the same as you.

What is the best self-employed health insurance for PA?

Any guidance is greatly appreciated. My husband and I will be on it, we have no employees. I am under physicians care for a variety of health issues. -Thanks
--------------------
You need to visit a local independent agent that works with all the major companies. The agent can work with you to find the best plan for your situation and budget. You said you have medical issues. Depending upon what those issues are you may have a problem finding a company that will accept you. If they do, there will be waivers, riders, or waiting periods before the company will cover those issues. This is why you need an agent. The agent can talk with the underwriters from the different companies to find out what the possible underwriting decision may be. There is no one best health insurance company. The best company for you is the company you want to go with. Nobody here can tell you which company is best for you because we don't know you or your health issues.

How do I get my health insurance pay for a nose job?

I"ve heard it's possible, under certain circumstances. But where do I start, and what should I say? I believe that I am eligible, because I think I may have something like a deviated septum or something like that.I definately have lots of sinus and breathing problems when it comes to my nose. Also,I don't have a lot of money, and can't afford to pay for the entire thing, myself.Anyways,if anybody has actual experience in this area, please give me a serious, and honest answer!
--------------------
If the deviated septum is something your doctor feels if interfering with your normal breathing process, then he or she could absolutely write a referral for your insurance company. Usually anything cosmetic cannot be covered under insurance, but if the doctor knows your having difficulty functioning on a daily basis, it may be an option. You could, you know, make it sound a lot worse than it is. Plea to your doc and tell him or her you're at your wits end. You need this fixed...and you need it now! Good luck!

Can anyone tell me what health insurance is offered to Target employess, especially those in Oklahoma?

I would like as much details as possible, such as HMO or PPO or deductibles, anything like that.

Talk to someone in the human resources department at Target. They can tell you anything you want to know about the benefits package they offer.

What happens if you change health insurance plans with deductibles if you stay with the same company?

It is renewal time and my employer has changed policies for a cheaper rate. I have met my deductible already this year and wonder if I will have to meet another deductible when the policy changes over to the new one.
--------------------
It will depend on how your group plan is set up. If you are setup on a calendar year, then you should be okay. However, if you are on a contract year then you may have to start again. If the company is the same, and in years past when you met the deductible prior to renewal and you did not have to meet the deductible again, then this case should be the same. You need to ask your HR department or if you have an insurance representative assigned for questions, then ask that person. It will depend on how your company has their agreement with the insurance company.

Why are health insurance corporations bribing Congress?

Why are they spending $1.4 million A DAY to bribe Congress against a national health care plan?
--------------------
That's how they get their way and make their money. If they bribe congress into passing some type of bill that works in their favor, then the corporations run the show. More money for them and the congressmen they bribe. Hence no one wants Obama passing is new medical insurance bill. No more insane amounts of moolah for the fat cats. This country is going to hell...

What specifics in the various health insurance reform bills would improve life expectancy in the US?

People cite lower life expectancy in the US as a reason we need reform, and I'm interested in how we can improve it though government action. Please be specific, as in X is a reason life expectancy in the US is lower than somewhere else, and the bills contain provision Y that would help improve it.
--------------------
With this health care bill life expectancy will go down. A component of this legislation would fund abortion at taxpayer expense. Cannot go down much further than that. Here are other parts of the actual health care bill. Page 30 Sec 123 of HC bill: THERE WILL BE A GOVT COMMITTEE that decides what treatments/benefits you get. Page 29 lines 4-16 in the HC bill: YOUR HEALTH CARE IS RATIONED Page 42 of HC Bill: The Health Choices Commissioner will choose your HC benefits for you. You have no choice! Page 50 Section 152 in HC bill: HC will be provided to ALL non-US citizens, illegal or otherwise. Page 59 HC Bill lines 21-24: Govt will have direct access to your bank accounts for elective funds transfer. Page 84 Sec 203 HC bill: Govt mandates ALL benefit packages for private HC plans in the 'Exchange.' Page 170 Lines 1-3 HC Bill: Any NONRESIDENT Alien is exempt from individual taxes. (Americans will pay.) Page 354 Sec 1177: The Govt will RESTRICT enrollment of 'special needs people!' Page 425 Lines 22-25, 426 Lines 1-3: The Govt provides an "approved" list of end-of-life resources;  guiding you in death. (Also called 'assisted suicide.') Page 427 Lines 15-24: The Govt mandates a program for orders on "end-of-life." (The Govt has a say in how your life ends!) Page 429 Lines 10-12: An "advanced care consultation" may include an ORDER for end-of-life plans. (AN ORDER TO DIE FROM THE GOVERNMENT?!?) I hope this shows you obamabots that you actually need to read the bill before you start getting all giddy over it. I personally am an unemployed Christian and cannot afford health insurance nor would I want my money to goes towards the killing of babies so I on religious and financial grounds will not be getting any health insurance nor will I pay any fines. If enough people do this it matters not what obamanation says. Mark Twain once wrote, "In a Republic, who is 'The Country?' Is it the government which is for the moment in the saddle? Why, the government is merely a temporary servant; it cannot be its prerogative to determine what is right and what is wrong, and decide who is a patriot and who isn't. Its function is to obey orders, not originate them. Who then is 'The Country?' Is it the newspaper? Is it the pulpit? Why these are mere parts of the country, not the whole of it; They have not command, they have only their little share in the command. In a monarchy, the king and his family are the country; in a republic, it is the common voice of the people,. Each of you, for himself, by himself and on his own responsibility, must speak. It is a solemn and weighty responsibility, and not lightly to be flung aside at the bullying of pulpit, press, government, or the empty catchphrases of polititians. Each must for himself alone decide what is right and what is wrong, and which course is patriotic and which isn't. You cannot shirk this and be a man. To decide it against your convictions is to be an unqualified and inexcusable traitor, both to yourself and to your country. Let men label you as they may. If you alone of all the nation shall decide one way, and that way be the right way according to your convictions of the right, you have done your duty by yourself and by your country. Hold up your head. You have nothing to be ashamed of. Doesn't matter what the press says. Doesn't matter what the politicians or the mobs say. Doesn't matter if the whole country decides that something wrong is something right. This nation was founded on one principle above all else: The requirement that we stand up for what we believe, no matter the odds or the consequences. When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth, and tell the whole world---no you move."

How does health insurance work?

and a family doctor? like if i went to a checkup insurance pays for me what does that mean
--------------------
Here's how it works: You and/or your employer pays the insurance company a certain amount of money each month or pay period. The insurance company collects these funds from everyone they cover. If you have to go to the doctor for a check-up, the insurance company will pay the bill. To control costs, insurance companies make you responsible for paying the first part of your annual bill. This amount is known as your deductible. If you have a $500 deductible, for example, and your check-up was your first visit of the year, then you might have pay for the check-up. Whatever you paid would be subtracted from the deductible. Once all the deductible has been paid (by you), the insurance company takes over. The insurance company may not pay 100% of each claim, either. You might have to pay part of the bill—known as the co-pay. To read more go to: http://www.healthinsurancewiz.com
