If you don't have health insurance, and get a prescription, how do you shop around to get the lowest price?

I am wondering about this because I never see the prices of prescription drugs displayed anywhere. Can you go to different pharmacies to see which has the lowest price?
--------------------
First before u leave Dr office ask him does he have any samples! Second, remind ur Dr that you don't have health insurance. Sometimes they know of programs where u get it for free or reduced cost. Third always ask him to write for generic brand. Know both names of the drug he's prescribing. Then comes the hard part of researching. Talk with the pharmacist giving him the name brand/generic name to see what the cost will be. Remember don't ask when they are too busy to help u. Many drugstores offer discounts but you have to ask. Some you can email online to ask questions. The worse they can say is No! Then I'd take my business elsewhere. Goodluck Fourth- go to the drug manufacturer if this is a medication you'll need long term. Many are now offering assistance to low to middle income families.

Did you realize that Obama "guaranteed" health insurance only covers children?

When most states already have it for children. Genius!
--------------------
"For the Children" is a mantra started during the Clinton's years in office. It sounds good and is an easy sell for whatever the democrats are pushing. However, I didn't realize that Obama's health insurance only covered children? Where did you see this or hear it. I'd like to read up on it. Thanks

Is pet insurance worth it? if so which is the best one are there any like people health insurance?

whats up with the reimbursing when i go to the doctor i pay twenty bucks and thats it is there one like that for pets?
--------------------
My mom pays about $500 a year to cover two cats. I believe it's called Veterinary Pet Insurance of America or something like that. Now that may sound like a lot but one of the cats did catch feline anemia and that treatment was expensive. Another cat was attacked by an outside cat and had to have an abscess drained. I don't know what pet you have but a lot of cats and dogs can live past 15 years and if you want to take care of them in their elderly years pet insurance might be worth it. On a side note pet obesity is about as epidemic as Adult Human obesity. Type 2 diabetes rates are growing in many of our overweight pets.

why not use medicaid for public health insurance?

does it make sense to simply use the existing medicaid system, and extend its reach to include uninsured americans, instead of starting up a whole new system?
--------------------
Well, I have dealt with medicaid before. It is not easy. It is run VERY inefficiently, has a VERY limited network and super huge waiting lists for almost every service that is not general practice. It sounds like a good idea, though I think they need to get rid of the HMO's that are involved with it. They should also speed up the process to pay the doctors for their services. It needs some serious work done to it, but I think it could work.

I need as much people to answer this question as i can get!!!!!!!!???????Its about health insurance?

Ok i really need to know what or where i can go to get cheap health insurance i mean like less then $100 dollar a month. Please if anyone has information or knows at least were i can go to look i will greatly appreciate it thank you so much. If it helps i live in New York State.
--------------------
I'm sorry to tell you this but there is no cheap health insurance. Your chances of getting any insurance for less then $100.00 a month are slim to none, mostly none. I'm in CT so there may be things in NY I'm not aware of but health insurance is a problem for everyone. I don't know if you work, or just can't get it at work so I don't know if you're entitled to any aid. Honestly, I can't even think of any aid you may get except welfare. Best of luck to you and I hope things work out.

Will instituting universal health insurance lead to decreased religiosity?

After all, a large reason why people see their pastors about their problems rather than a psychology or other professional is cost and the lingering stigma associated with seeking professional help. If mental health costs come down and everyone has health insurance, perhaps people will go to mental health professionals more, and to religious leaders less. What do you think?
--------------------
I think most psychologists can't get past the conflict of interest of loosing money if they tell people they are ok - I highly distrust the whole profession. Most of them are as bad as the religious leaders people go to.

what programs are available for people in virginia that need health insurance?

a 40 year old male in va has diabetis but no job needs a doctor and health insurance
--------------------
Well, there's always Medicaid, as you're "medically needy" you can try to qualify, based on your household income and assets. And Virginia has a "guaranteed issue" program, also, where you cannot be denied a policy - you probably need to talk to a VA agent to get in with that. Keep in mind, the PREMIUM isn't guaranteed, and you'll pay a hefty one, if you're a type 1 diabetic, OR a type 2. Virginia does NOT have a "high risk health pool".

If your employer deducts health insurance premiums from pay, but you find out insurance is cancelled HELP?

health insurance has been deducted from may every pay period and found out that health insurance was terminated due to employer not paying premiums. where would you call to file a complaint against the company or find out what can be done about this in ohio
--------------------
Call your local department of labor and tell them the situation. They will give you the number for the securities and benefits department (this is a federal department) and you file a complaint. In the end the employer has to refund your money or may be required to pay medical expenses equivalent to the ins. Are you the only emp. with this problem? If so you can also go for discrimination. Good Luck

Can a holistic practitioner somehow be covered by health insurance?

Or does anyone know how much they generally cost for a basic visit?
--------------------
Most insurance companies don't cover any form of alternative medicine, but some actually do. You'd need to call your insurance company to find out whether or not they cover anything. As for how much they cost, each place is different. You'd have to call different places that you may be interested in and get a ballpark figure.

what will new health insurance cover?

i am leaving my job and i will need to get health care coverage somewhere else. i am having problems with my back, shoulders, and neck because of my huge breast. i need to get a breast reduction but i am scared that once i have new insurance i will not be able to have it done until years later. am i right or wrong? please give suggestions!
--------------------
As long as you are paying for insurance you are covered, you just need to go through the approval dance. Depending on how huge will show how quickly you get approved. My doctor took one look at me and said "you will be covered no doubt about it". My company had recently changed to a health insurance agency and not long after that I went for a consultation for breast reduction surgery. I got covered 100%!! Also, check out http://www.breasthealthonline.com for some great information about breast reductions at the reduction boards!

Health Insurance - which is the best for me?

Sometime soon I will no longer be on ym dad's insurance. What health insuirance has the best plan for me? I'm 18, a full-time college student, I work 2 days a week, and I live with my parents.
--------------------
You need a trusted adviser to help you through the process of purchasing health insurance so that you understand what you are purchasing. Some may suggest going on line to get a quote but you probably already know that there is much more to health insurance than price. Some might even suggest a discount plan which is not insurance at all. Ultimately, you are the one who determines the affordability of your health insurance plan by deciding how much you will participate in sharing the cost of your health care with your insurance company. If you choose a plan that covers everything i.e. doctors office visits, prescription drugs, preventative health benefits, maternity coverage as well as low deductibles and low copays your monthly premiums will be significant. Depending upon what you are being treated for you could consider a plan that covers only the major health catastrophe which will result in a relatively low monthly premium. You then can use the monthly premium savings to pay for the prescription or the occasional doctor visit and still come out ahead. Check with the agent that writes your dad's home or auto insurance he/she can provide you a health insurance proposal that takes into account your budget and health situation. The agent can answer questions as to what is and is not covered by the policy, explain deductibles and copays and show you the hospitals and doctors that participate in the network. Use the Internet to educate yourself but use an agent to purchase the coverage.

Since the cost of non payers is already figured into the cost of my health insurance, how will the health care?

"reform" bill help me? I assume it would LOWER my premium.
--------------------
The only way it will lower your premium is if you get fewer benefits or the premium gets subsidized by someone else. In other words, if you become a welfare recipient. How can you possibly lower premiums for those who have insurance at the same time you are providing insurance for millions who do not have it?

What happens if I don't have health insurance and go to the emergency room?

Do they send you a bill? What happens?
--------------------
They'll send you a bill. Assuming you're in the US, emergency rooms must treat your emergent symptoms regardless of your ability to pay. Many hospitals are not-for-profit, and they will provide non-emergency treatment on the same basis. If you can't pay the bill when you get it, call them and they'll usually set up a payment plan for you. When you do that, don't overextend yourself financially. If you agree to $25 a month and you can pay $50, go ahead and pay $50, just don't agree to it. They will be more patient than most creditors and work out more generous terms.
