Why do conservatives want middle-class children to go without health insurance?

Is it that these kids are lazy and don't deserve to go to the doctor because their parents don't work hard enough?
--------------------
Because they are hateful, heartless fiends who care about nothing other than money. What kind of a person wouldn't want a poor little girl with cancer to be able to get treatment? Good question by the way!

Does anyone know of any organizations in Texas that can help someone with no health insurance?

My brother broke his leg pretty badly a few days ago. He's seen a doctor and will need to continue to do so (and possibly need surgery). He has no insurance. Does anyone know of a non profit place that could help him cover the costs? He lives in Texas. Thank you!

What should my health insurance premium be?

If I am a single, healthy 36 year old non smoker in Florida with a low deductible and good coverage....can you give me some idea of what my premium should be? Because I am worried I may be getting ripped off and my premium is set to go even higher next month. I will soon be paying almost $250 a month... does that sound normal?? Can anyone give me some estimates or ideas? Thanks.
--------------------
If you're not overweight and perfectly healthy, for a male (no maternity benefits, LOL) your age, a good, low/no deductible plan is going to average close to $400 a month. What you're paying sounds low, unless your deductible is $1000, or you have limited medical benefits.

Can my health insurance company ask for this information?

I am covered through a large group plan in CA. The employees were just informed that the insurance company wants all the following information or they will cancel your insurance: birth certificates for children, divorce papers, marriage certificates, etc. I thought this was a totally violation of privacy laws! Am I missing something???
--------------------
You're missing something. See, people have been adding girlfriends and kids that aren't theirs, to their insurance policies - calling them spouses and their own children. This is insurance fraud. To verify that your girlfriend really IS your wife, you need to show the marriage certificate. You need to show that the children are yours, by showing the birth certificate or adoption papers. "Dependents" who are illegally on your policy, will be removed. How do they prove that they aren't really a dependent? They can't - so they request you to provide proof that they legally ARE a dependent.

What should one do, when a medical provider charges above health insurance allowance?

Dissatisfied with UnitedHealth's allowance, a radiologist is charging me $188 above copay. UnitedHealth has protested these charges, still he keeps billing me.
--------------------
Does the radiologist have a signed contract with United Healthcare? If not, then there isn't much you can do about it. A non-contracted doctor does not have to accept the insurance allowed amount, and you can be billed the difference. If the radiologist does have a signed contract with United Healthcare *and* your Explanation of Benefits says that you are not liable for the $188, then I wouldn't pay it. Make sure to save the EOB, so that you have some proof for dispute if the radiologist attempts to send you to collections.

How much would health insurance cost me? I'm eighteen.?

I am eighteen years old and in excellent health. I am graduating high school and taking a year off before college to work and travel. Does anyone know approximately how much a health insurance policy would cost me per month? I think I need one because I won't be a full time student next year. Thanks.
--------------------
That's like asking how much a new car will cost you; without knowing what kind of car you want and with what options and where you are located no one can really tell. I could get you a policy for under $40 or a policy for over $300. Visit a local agent that works with all the major companies in your area. The agent can find the best policy for your situation and budget. There is no extra charge using an agent.

Can You Please Tell Me Your Horror Stories With Your Health Insurance Provider?

It has been said that Insurance Providers are only in for their money and that their clients don't really matter to them, as do clients for companies that are not insurance companies. Too many insurance providers is killing the system.
--------------------
Insurance providers are in it for the money, just like you are. However people do not understand how insurance works and think that the mysterious insurance carrier has buckets and buckets of money, however if you take advantage of your medical insurance, you are hurting your employer in the long run, running up premiums they have to pay. Insurance companies need to make money to pay their employees and have money on hand for future claims payouts.

Where does Obama think that America can pay for all health insurance for Americans and not raises taxes?

on everyone? raising coroporate taxes just means prices go up...like the minimum wage... A single-payer system would eliminate private insurance companies and put a Medicare-like system into place where the government pays all health-care bills with tax dollars. http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/category/h…
--------------------
Just tax corporations into bankruptcy, this will cause more unemployment, this means people will have less stress because they are not working and therefore they will be in better health and will not have to go to the doctor. This Obama, he has got it together, he has a plan.

What do polls show are Americans' biggest complaints about health insurance?

And what do they like the most? How does Obama's plan address the former without causing problems with the latter?
--------------------
HMOs - denial of service In general - cost of insurance. Also there are lots and lots of people that can't afford insurance, are closed out due to pre-existing conditions, or just have no access to insurance. By covering everyone, you lower the average age in the insurance pool and lower the cost to all. I don't know if Obama's plan addresses all the problems in the insurance industry. Part of the problem is that Medicare/big insurance companies demand huge discounts, so doctors and hospitals have to greatly inflate the prices they charge in general so that they can reduce them for medicare/big insurance. Then the average person with no coverage can't afford care. The system in place inflates the cost of health care.

Should I shop around for health insurance?

My employer's health insurance costs me 762 a month for family coverage. (my employer pays for 65% of the single plan) the deductable is $500. Is this a good plan
--------------------
Don't listen to anyone that claims to tell you that you can't possibly find a cheaper plan - even if they claim to have 101+ years of experience as an agent. There is no way that they could possibly know whether $762 is a cheap price or not for you because they do not know your zip code, # of family members, age of family members, whether anyone smokes, etc. etc. Individual health insurance will usually be about 1/3 to 1/2 of the cost of a group health insurance plan with similar benefits (although you will have to pay extra if you want maternity coverage on an individual policy). The thing is you probably will not find a cheaper plan after you take into account that your employer is paying 65% of the group premiums. However, if the employer is only paying for 65% of your premiums and not for your family members then it will probably make sense to split the family up and put the other family members onto a much cheaper individual health plan. Either way you should compare rate quotes at least once every 6 months to see what kind of value you are receiving for your premium dollar. Stick with a large and trusted company like a United Healthcare, Blue Cross, Aetna, Humana, etc. Here is some more information on finding a solid family health insurance plan:

Question about Fidelis Health Insurance?

I will be 19 in two days. And apparently My Fidelis Child Health Care Insurance is ending. I understand that, but I am a student in college and live with my parents. I heard that that fact should mean something in the continuation of my insurance. Does anyone know?
--------------------
You're mixing apples and oranges. The new law says after September 23rd of this year, IF you have insurance through your parent's employer, THEY cannot drop you due to age. But that's not what you have. You have stand alone child welfare health insurance through your state Children's Health Insurance Program. That flat out stops the day you turn 19. Period. You have to apply for adult welfare health insurance, Medicaid, to continue to get welfare health insurance after you're 19. Sorry.

Why is war hero and senator McCain fighting to preserve health insurance profits with taxpayer subsidy?

Has he turned on the people and joined the dark side? We do not need a Fourth Reich, right? War and plunder only benefit the elite rulers. Isn't it time to get rid of these kind of "leaders?"
--------------------
McCain has always fought for the corporations. He is currently fighting to turn control of the internet over to corporations so you either have to pay them for the privilege of use or you can only go to the sites they approve of. Of course it has nothing to do with his "special friend" Vickie Eisman, wink wink.

can i still see a dermatologist without health insurance?

i have some blemishes on my face so i want to go to a dermatologist, but do they all require insurance?how much would it cost for an appointment and would they beable to give me something over the counter so i dont need a prescription?
--------------------
You could call the doctor's office and ask about their payment methods. For example, ask if they require payment at the time of treatment, or do they bill? They will still see you without insurance, but some doctors expect to be paid right away, so make sure you ask abut their treatment and visit fees before making the appointment.

What type of health insurance do you have?

i'm shopping around for a policy with good maternity coverage, but the only ones i can find have a waiting period of 12 months (which is out of the question b/c we will be ttc within the next 3 months). who do you have your policy through? what is the coverage? any other options? thanks
--------------------
I have PacifiCare Sighnature POS though United Health Care. I have excellent coverage. The one-time copay was $15 and after that I don't pay anything. Delivery (hospital) is $0 everything is paid for. EDIT: Now if you are having difficulty finding a good health insurance you can always (as others have mentioned) apply for Medicaid/Medi-Cal. You will automatically qualify once you get pregnant. No pregnant women will ever get denied regardless of income.

Why is everyone's health insurance premium the same?

Obviously it would be very difficult to get the public to accept health insurance premiums using age or gender as a rating variable, but why not lifestyle choices such as smoking or obesity? It's not right that someone who smokes and who is 100 pounds overweight pays the same premium that I do.
--------------------
I'll take this more from a group plan perspective. They CAN actually charge more for certain lifestyle choices, such as smoking. Some companies have actually fired employees who didn't quit smoking, as this is something employers may discriminate by when considering employment. My company charges an extra $25/mo if you or your spouse is a smoker. It is harder to vary rates by overweight or fitness level (even if it is for the fat, lazy slob who eats 3 big macs for lunch every day). Because of ERISA (which governs group benefit plans), companies can not discriminate on the basis of pre-existing conditions. Someone may have a hereditary condition or medical condition that makes them overweight or unable to exercise as much (hypothyroid or a bad heart). Because of this, it's extremely difficult to come up with criteria to separate out the people who just don't take care of themselves from the ones who may have some medical reason. If it makes you feel any better, they will die sooner, meaning that their pension and retiree medical benefits are likely worth less (if the company still has these).
