Shouldnt the Democrats prove more people will have health insurance?

If prices go up 1/3rd and the federal government has 42% year over year health insurance expenses. How will more people have insurance? Dont higher prices=less people with insurance?
--------------------
You mean, like the way they "proved" how many jobs were "created or saved" by the trillion dollar porkulus bill? I believe at last count Obama has estimated that jobs increased by 3000%.

Any suggestions for an individual health insurance to go with my medicare?

My fathers health insurance through GM is going to be cancelled in Jan of 2009 and now we are in the process of trying to find another plan to go with his Medicare plan, is there anyone out there that has a suggestion for him?
--------------------
He'll need to visit a local agent that works with all the major companies in his area because this can get very confusing. There is no extra charge using an agent. You do not want to look for an individual health insurance policy, he'll need either a Medicare Supplement or a Medicare Advantage plan. He'll also need a Part D prescription drug plan or he'll face penalties by not having one. Most Medicare Advantage plans will have Part D included but some, and all Supplements, do not. There is no way for anyone here to have any suggestions. He'll need to talk with someone knowledgeable with the different plans. There are Medicare Supplements Plans A through L. The plans are exactly the same from company to company; the only difference is premium. There are also several types of Medicare Advantage plans (HMO, PPO, PFFS, POS, MSA, SNP, PACE and Cost Plan) and the one that's best depends on his current situation and budget as well as his state because these plans are county specific. Some companies will have only one or two types while other companies will have most types although what any company has will vary by county. Generally, the Medicare Supplement will have a higher premium but very little if any extra charges when he uses the plan. The Medicare Advantage plans will have a low, or even a $0, premium but will have co-pays when he uses the plan.

Is a government mandate of health insurance your idea of tyranny?

if so then isn't the government making a restaurant owner serve people they dislike, like the disabled, tyranny too? is it your opinion that makes it tyranny ...because having health insurance isn't the worst thing to ever happen?
--------------------
I don't think it's tyranny at all, I think it's long overdue. Americans are fleeced for their medical care. Insurance companies pay too much for services (whether medically necessary or not) and the uninsured pay even more--unless they don't pay at all, in which case you and I pay one way or another. We pay more than twice as much as the citizens of other countries for identical prescriptions, we pay by far the most for medical care while achieving the 37th-nest outcomes, and bankruptcy due to medical bills is rising in the US, while it is virtually nonexistent elsewhere...we're being fleeced, with precious little recourse. That's tyranny. It makes far more sense to mandate access to primary care rather than just emergency room care. I'm sure that more than one illness that could have been treated at a clinic with $24 worth of medicine has wound up days or weeks later in the ER with the taxpayers on the hook for $35,000 worth of Emergency services.

I need eating disorder treatment and have no health insurance?

I have been bulimic for 4 years. I thought I was getting better because I wasn't purging as often but I've relapsed and have begun purging 2 to 3 times a day if I eat anything. I have no health insurance & no job at the moment. I live in NY.
--------------------
unfornately getting good health insurance or insurance at all or even a job especially now is hard, because im in the same situtation. However you could try and go online and see if there is any hotlines that are free, someone to talk you through it. or you could call a hospital and tell them your situation and they wil work something out with you. but above anything its important to stay strong. eat little things to start off just to get something in your stomach, eat crackers. i use to be belimic myself. i know how hard it is. but stay strong. you can do it. get any free help you can, call the hospitals, trust me whether or not you think it someone is always there to help. and theres no need to feel ashamed or anything to get help. just think about all the people who love u and wnt u better. good luck :)

Can I have two health insurance policies?

I already have health insurance through my wife's company, but my company is now starting to offer insurance. We just renewed our policy at my wife's company, and that won't run out until June 30 next year. My company's insurance will start August 1. Benefits are better with my wife's company, and even though we have to pay, I'd rather have that. Any advice?
--------------------
Well, first I think it depends on what state you live in. Different states have different laws about that. But, from my experience, you can have two health ins plans. One would be primary and the other would be secondary. But, you really want to look at options on both. You also would want to look at the cost involved with having two policies. Look at deductibles that will have to be met on both policies, not to mention if you have to pay to have both of them. Most of the time, it makes sense to only have one policy. If you have two, it also may cause a lot of conflict between the insurance companies. One may not want to pay and then the other may say the first will need to pay. You can see where the conflict could happen. I hope this helps!

Can an employer cancel an employee's health insurance while he's out on workmans comp? How about his wife's?

My husbands employer seems to have cancelled his health insurance shortly after he went out on workmans comp., as they cancelled mine too. Now she's telling him that if he wants he can go COBRA?
--------------------
Well, when you are terminated from employment, the employer can't keep you on their group plan! And unless you have a contract that says otherwise, an employer doesn't have to keep you employed, or keep your job open, while you're out with an injury. If the employee's insurance is cancelled, so is the entire family's plan. Yes, if he wants to keep the health insurance, he should go on Cobra. And there's no grace period for that payment, so accept, and mail the payment in TODAY.

Can you be denied health insurance for having post pardum depression?

I was diagnosed with postpartum depression four months ago while my family and I were on my husbands insurance. Since then he has found a new job and we have buy our insurance out right . We got a letter in the mail stating that they were going to deny health insurance for me because of my postpartum depression. Does anyone know why they can do this?
--------------------
They can do it because no one has prohibited them from doing it (yet). The prohibition against doing it is not scheduled to take effect for years, and might be repealed before then.

Can I still get health insurance when I have bipolar disorder?

I've heard from a lot of people that they can't get health insurance because they have bipolar disorder (type ii) like me, but if I'm covered under my parents insurance currently. Then when I finish college and go out on my own, will my past medical history prevent me from obtaining my own insurance?
--------------------
It depends on what state you live in. Where I live the state mandates that insurance companies "shall provide coverage for the treatment of biologically based mental illness that is no less extensive than the coverage provided for any other physical illness," which includes bipolar disorder. If your state does not have this mandate you may be able to get a policy that excludes, or limits coverage for treatment of your disorder. What you should do is contact a local agent with knowledge of your states laws, and ask for a pre-screen with multiple carriers. Don http://mtnhealthinsurance.com

Why does Hillary want to FORCE people to buy health insurance?

Yes, under Clinton's you will be FORCED to buy health insurance. Back in the early 90s she wanted people to have proof of insurance BEFORE an employer could hire them!!! What if you can't afford it? This women is Marxist!!!! She has no right to tell me how to spend my money.....NONE!!!! Why does Hillary want to FORCE people to buy health insurance?
--------------------
There are ways of getting insurance for a example work related insurance. Health insurance is soo important you never know when your gonna need it and it help you so much at the end. If she does force insurance there should also be plans to help people who cant afford it. Some people just rather go out and spend their money on stupid stuff than more important stuff like your health.

Why do a lot of politicians want to impose fines on people without health insurance?

This idea makes absolutely no sense to me. Why make it mandatory? It just seems so draconian and evil to punish people like this. They want to criminalize not having health insurance - this in no way shape or form resembles a crime. Sure, they may say if everyone was insured, health care costs would go down, which I think is BS. If they don't have a job that provides it, and they are fairly healthy, why force them? Call me ignorant, but it just makes no sense to me.
--------------------
they know their math doesn't work unless they have everyone inthe system they can't have people just outside of the range. they want you on board like car insurance alot of people drive without it because it is too expensive but in the public veiw people i have herd them go " oh i couldnt imagine not having insurance what happens when someone gets hurt blah blah " mostly women but see these are the same people that cant be responsible for themselves an have no problem driving 80 on the highway talking on a cell phone and texting and when they hit something all they have to do is make the phone call. see if we stopped having insurance and made everyone have to bear with the responsibility we would make people have to know what going on and we couldnt be lackadaisical on the road. Same thing with health insurance now once the government forces you to have insurance it eliminates one more need to pay attention. they will just tell you what you can and can't do they will tell you whats safe and whats not because now they are responsible for you.

Can my wife and I each have an FSA and HSA with a child and two separate health insurance policies?

I am married and my wife and I have health insurance separately through our respective employers. My plan is a copay plan with an FSA. Hers is a high deductible plan with an HSA. We have a baby due on January 10th and will put the baby on her insurance policy. Can we keep both her HSA and my FSA, or do we need to get rid of one, and if so, when? Can we finish out the year, or does it stop immediately?
--------------------
As long as she is only depositing the amount for an individual now then you're fine. Once the baby is born she can deposit the entire family amount into the HSA. What she has doesn't affect you and vice versa. However, she CAN use her HSA funds for your medical care. Once the baby is born you're better off fully funding the HSA rather than the FSA unless you're doing more than the ~$6000.

what happens to kids health insurance benefits if I am injured at work and go on workers compensation benefit?

I just went on workers compensation and I have health insurance through my employer what happens to this if I can't pay it
--------------------
If you don't pay for your health insurance - and your kids - both your coverages will be cancelled. As soon as your employer terminates you, your health insurance cancels, unless you pay for it yourself, through cobra. Even though you're on Workers Comp, that only covers the work related injury. It does NOT keep paying for your benefits.

Is there Constitutional precedent for requiring people to buy health insurance?

Car insurance is mandated because you're licensed to drive and the license can be revoked, but you're not licensed to live, so is there legal standing for requiring purchase of a product (health insurance)?
--------------------
car insurance is addressed at the state level thus it falls under the tenth amendment. There is no constitutional precedent for government mandated health insurance. however the dems will probably further bastardize the commerce clause in an attempt to legitimize an otherwise unconstitutional law.

When health insurance is cancelled, when does coverage end?

I cancelled my health insurance in May and they are trying to tell me that my coverage ended in April, the day before my son was born. Is this possible?
--------------------
Hi Julie, That depends on the period that your payments covered and when in May you canceled your insurance. Most insurance payments are prepaid, so they cover a set period that follows the payment. If, for example, your regular payments were the first of each month, then your May payment would have covered May 1 - May 31. That means your April payment should have covered April 1 - April 30. If your payment was, for example, on May 15, then your May payment would have covered May 16 - 31. Your April payment, on April 15, would have covered April 16 - May 15. And so on. If you have your contract that the insurance company sends every year with your renewal, it should tell you exactly what was covered and when coverage ends when the insurance is canceled. If you don't have it, call the insurance company and ask them to send you a copy. Insist if you have to. You have rights as a consumer. If you still have questions, contact the insurance commissioner's office in your state. Sometimes, they are hard to reach. If that happens, call your local county commissioner's office, and ask for help. Hope this helps.

What health insurance company is available to employees of the store Kohls? ?

Im thinking of getting a job there and would like to research some info on the health insurance offered to their employees, thank you!
--------------------
I would imagine the actual insurance company would depend on what state you are in. Not all companies offer coverage in all states. But I found this site. Looks like they offer health insurance for full-time and part-time. Although the benefits are probably less: http://www.kohlscareers.com/001KCareers/… If you are interested, just call them. can I stop my health insurance if I am now covered by my parents?

I work for a retail company and have just recently decided to go back to school. I will be covered by my parents starting soon and I was wondering if this would be considered a life event where I could change or drop my current health insurance with my workplace.
--------------------
if you have an individual plan, you should be able to drop it with a 15 or 30 day notice. if it is through your employer, the only ways are how the lady above me stated. if that's the case, just see if you can reduce your hours so that you are not qualified for health coverage. usually it's between 20 and 30 hours min.

does health insurance costs count toward your gross earnings when doing your taxes?

my wife paid just over 10000 for health insurance this year for our family plan. her w2 says she paid the amount but also includes it in her gross for the year is this correct???? please help thanks
--------------------
It is in your gross income. The insurance was taken out of the wages. You're taxed on the gross income. If it's documented on your W-2, then your tax program will tell you where & if you can take it off.

If I go on unemployment, does my company pay health insurance?

My company has laid me off and is going to pay me unemployment. Does my company have to continue my health insurance, or will I be dropped automatically? If so is there anything I can do other than Cobra for a month until my husband's insurance starts?
--------------------
Chances are, you won't even get the premium notice for COBRA for 30 days after your last day. The employer has 30 days to notify the insurance company of your lay-off, then the COBRA Administrator has 14 days to get the notice to you. Once you receive it you will have 60 days to decide if you want it. So if something happens in that 30 days that you are uninsured, you will be able to get that covered by COBRA. If nothing happens, decline COBRA.

Are there any options for people who get cancer and don't have health insurance?

I got diagnosed with testicular cancer. I lost my health insurance last month. The doctor told me I need surgery among other things. Are there any options for people like me? Free clinics where i can get treatment maybe? I live in New York. Maybe their are state programs? Any help would be appreciated.
--------------------
You should contact your previous insurance coordinator through your last job and ask them about you paying through COBRA. That's what my husband did when he changed jobs and then I was dx with cancer. Other than that, if you have no job or an extra low paying job, apply through social security for medicaid.
