Why do a lot of politicians want to impose fines on people without health insurance?

This idea makes absolutely no sense to me. Why make it mandatory? It just seems so draconian and evil to punish people like this. They want to criminalize not having health insurance - this in no way shape or form resembles a crime. Sure, they may say if everyone was insured, health care costs would go down, which I think is BS. If they don't have a job that provides it, and they are fairly healthy, why force them? Call me ignorant, but it just makes no sense to me.

they know their math doesn't work unless they have everyone inthe system they can't have people just outside of the range. they want you on board like car insurance alot of people drive without it because it is too expensive but in the public veiw people i have herd them go " oh i couldnt imagine not having insurance what happens when someone gets hurt blah blah " mostly women but see these are the same people that cant be responsible for themselves an have no problem driving 80 on the highway talking on a cell phone and texting and when they hit something all they have to do is make the phone call. see if we stopped having insurance and made everyone have to bear with the responsibility we would make people have to know what going on and we couldnt be lackadaisical on the road. Same thing with health insurance now once the government forces you to have insurance it eliminates one more need to pay attention. they will just tell you what you can and can't do they will tell you whats safe and whats not because now they are responsible for you.
