If a gay couple needed health insurance, would they each have to be covered individually or can they get a family type coverage? Does it depend on the state? I need another job, with health benefits, and I'm just wondering if I can cover both my girlfriend and I with it once we move in together.

Mostly it depends upon the employing agency. But if your employer does offer health insurance for partners, be warned that the federal government views it as additional income, and you will be taxed at a higher rate federally. State taxes - depends on state tax law, but I don't know of any state where those benefits offered would not consider it as additional income.
