Can a patient with no health insurance be denied an emergency surgery?

My dad was in a car accident and broke his back, he is in a hospital but now needs to be transported to a different hospital, but they are unsure if the new hospital will accept himbecause he does not have health insurance anymore. He has to have surgery or he may not be able to walk for months or ever again.

Hospitals are required, by law, to provide emergency medical care to all patients, regardless of their financial status. If you have issues with the hospital, try speaking to a lawyer. His situation, though it may not be life threatening, would be considered an emergency. Medical emergencies are classified as a situation when your life, body parts or bodily functions are at risk of damage or loss unless immediate medical care is received. Most hospitals will have something posted about your medical rights that goes into the policy in greater depth
