Does anyone know the laws regarding changing health insurance?

Does anyone know the laws regarding changing health insurance companies due to job change while being treated for a particular (non-life threatening) condition? Will you be refused coverage for continued treatment or is there some way around this legally? Thanks in advance for any info.

When you change jobs, and have been covered by a Health policy from your previous company, that company is required to offer you COBRA coverage. This coverage allows you to continue with the previous insurance company, and they will continue treating you for all your conditions. The negative about COBRA is that you have to make the payments out of your pocket and they have to be made in advance for the next month. In your new job, if they have Health Insurance through an HMO, the HMO will treat all of your previous conditions. If they have coverage, but not through an HMO, you will have to get it in writing that they will cover your previous condition. Not all will cover previous conditions, but some will. Good Luck
