Why would anyone want to give up the protections that states put on Health insurance?

McCain wants to eliminate protections that states put on health insurance by having people buy insurance under other state's laws. That will cause all health insurance companies to move to the state with the least protections for consumers. Just like the credit card companies do. Why would anyone want this?
--------------------
The mandates that states impose on health insurance companies can add enormous costs to the consumer. The lowest priced policy available for a family of 4 with a 50 year old male primary in Atlantic City is $726 per month. In Albuquerque New Mexico the price for the same family falls to $191 per month. No, the policies aren't even similar, but maybe the plan available in NM suites the needs and budget of someone living in Atlantic City who would like to save $6,420 per year on premiums. I can buy wine from California, why not a health insurance policy? What can possibly be wrong with putting the consumer in charge of their own health insurance, instead of labor unions and politicians. When does competition and choices ever hurt the consumer?
