I have a friend who served in the military for 10 years and says he doesn't have health insurance...he has a 20 thousand dollar medical bill...this makes no sense to me. Can someone please explain?

He may be able to get care through the VA system. If his condition isn't service-connected, the care he receives will be on a space-available basis. They won't pay for medical care he's already received.
