What would you do if you lost your job and your health insurance with it?

Assume that while you were still insured it was discovered that you had a health condition that ultimately prevented you from getting new insurance coverage after you lost our job, what are your options? Are you doomed to death or bankruptcy?
--------------------
GREAT POINT, that is the whole issue. That is why so many americans are not covered. It is not all irresponsible people that are going to get all the benefits. Any civilized nation should and do provide healthcare benefits to its citizens. It is a solemn right, duty and our privilege in this country to have healthcare. I do not see why people want to back up the billion dollar health care providers, insurance companies and their cronies and the pharmaceutical companies that are trying their best again to stop it. I wonder why they would want to, I ask myself this. Because they could never compete with a government run system or single payer system because then they could not make the billions by cutting people off. 48 million americans, uninsured. Highest healthcare costs out of 50 industrialized nations, shorter lifespan, that is where we are now. That is why it needs to be done and will be, for this is a national shame that needs to be fixed and it has nothing to do with losing freedom it actually is about giving the people a voice, not just a boot out the door of healthcare coverage.
